Description:
The relationships between the abnormalities of the male reproductive organs in striped field mice and the accumulation of endocrine-disrupting chemicals were assessed. Most mice collected at three areas were contaminated with phenol or organotin compounds. Fourteen to 42% of the mice at each area had abnormally shrunken reproductive organs, and some of them were contaminated with high levels of phenol compounds. Moreover, all the shrunken reproductive organs were damaged in the histological structure. The damage was observed also from several mice accumulating a high level of phenol compounds even though they had normally developed reproductive organs, although no damage was found in the mice accumulating a high level of organotin compounds. Collectively, the abnormalities of the reproductive organs in the mice seemed to be related to the accumulation of phenol compounds rather than of organotin compounds. ... Read more

Description:
A new iterative Brownian dynamics simulation (BDS) method for analyzing the diffusive behavior of particles in an alternating electric field is proposed and tested in comparison with several previous techniques, including the most widely used BDS method developed by Ermak. To evaluate the proposed method with other schemes, particle trajectories in constant, AC, nonuniform DC in DMA, and quadrupole electric fields were obtained from each algorithm with various integration time steps. It is shown that the proposed BDS method is much more accurate at predicting the mean and variance of particle position for most cases. With respect to algorithm efficiency, the new scheme is about 5-50 times more efficient than the conventional BDS method for high-frequency AC electric fields. The simulation results for a particle beam generated in a quadrupole electric field show that the selection of a suitable algorithm and the proper size of time step are important for calculating system properties related to the diffusive motion of particles. In addition, a correction to the stochastic term is suggested and its effect investigated. ... Read more

From the supplier: A spate of cancer among the St Louis Post-Dispatch employees has people concerned about the health environment of the newsroom. The theories about electromagnetic fields being responsible for cancer have not been proven. The National Institute of Occupational Safety and Health conducted a study of the medical history of the affected employees and analysed the electromagnetic fields of the newsroom but was not able to see any connections. Other newspapers, such as the San Jose Mercury News, have also had to tackle the issue to reassure employees.

Description:
The objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of electric fields application for the reduction of membrane fouling, the inactivation of microorganisms and the enhancement of particle coagulation. It was found that electric fields treatment prior to microfiltration showed in large quantity of cumulative permeates than those in non-electric fields. This is attributed to the promotion of particle coagulation and interaction between particle and membrane surface. The number of active bacteria was reduced by electric fields treatment. This may be a positive result for the prevention of membrane bio fouling as well as microbial inactivation. Coagulant dosage could also be saved about 75% compared with non-electric fields in terms of the 95% turbidity removal at 10 (kV/cm). Therefore, it is expected to improve the efficiency and the economics of the process by providing electric fields for wastewater treatment. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars This is great fun for a horrible commute.
I was a little skeptical about this at first but I have listened to it several times already in the last few weeks.I never do that with an audio book but found myself traveling through traffic and having a wonderfully suspenseful time. The actors are all amazing.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not too bad...
This set is actually pretty good.

"The Passersby" - starring Morgan Brittany (supermodel and she also appeared as Katherine Wentworth on "Dallas", as well as tons of staple shows from the sixties).Morgan does a credible job here. She gives it a good effort and it pays off.Her Southern accent is sweet and convincing.Where this one falls down is the use of a bland supporting cast. The role of The Seargent was masterfully played by James Gregory in the original but the person playing it here clearly doesn't have much.
Stacy Keach, for some reason, pops in to play Abraham Lincoln at the end before delivering the closing narration. The casting of Keach as host still remains a mystery to me...give me Rod Serling any day.

"The Rip Van Winkle Caper" - starring Tim Kazurinsky.
Kazurinsky gives the main character, Mr. Farwell, an English accent, which is a nice touch. Also laudable are some great sound effects and the addition of a train heist (which is only referred to in the original).

"Four O'Clock" - starring Stan Freberg.Freberg has a good time playing the part, much as Theodore Bikel did in the original.
However, the story itself was one of Serling's paler attempts.
In fact, it was adapted from a short story that itself is rather brief and unimaginative.

"The Monsters Are Due On Maple Street" - starring Frank John Hughes. You have to listen closely for Hughes' part...there are four other male neighbors who are equally vocal in the Maple Street skurmish. The supporting cast are very good...perhaps better than the actors in the original version.Just my opinion, but I always felt that the TV version was a little too pretentious, much like "The Shelter".Good sound effects here as well, especially at the end where the 'monsters' make their appearance. ... Description:
This paper presents a waveform for driving an AC plasma display panel (PDP). The proposed twin reset (TR) waveform can drive AC PDP at a significantly reduced scan time, while keeping a good contrast ratio. It uses two similar reset waveforms for the scan and common electrodes to form the desired charge states: two identical set-up ramps to form the desired charge states and two different set-down ramps to speed up the address and sustain discharges. The measured dark luminance with the twelve-reset selective-write method is 0.23cd/m^2 for the TR waveform, while it is 0.67cd/m^2 for a typical drive waveform. The achieved contrast ratio is ~2470:1. The jitters on the address discharge are ~1.0 @ms under reasonable operation conditions. The measured margins on the sustain voltage with a 1.2 @ms scan pulse show that the TR waveform is suitable for displaying high quality pictures. ... Read more

Description:
This paper presents a waveform for driving a high-resolution AC plasma display panel (PDP) which uses a gas mixture of high Xe content. This waveform drives the PDP with six selective-write (SW) and six selective-erase (SE) sub-fields. The SW sub-fields are addressed using wall charges formed by a modified twin reset (TR) waveform [J.W. Seo, S.H. Kim, S.Y. Soh, J.Y. Kim, J. H. Ryu, B.K. Kang, Twin voltage-ramp reset for high speed addressing of three-electrode AC plasma display panel, Displays 25(2004)49-56, and the SE sub-fields are addressed using wall charges formed by the preceding sustain discharges. A pre-reset pulse is adopted before the beginning of first SW sub-field to prevent the deteriorating effects of remnant wall charges of OFF cell on the addressing of SW sub-fields. When a 10% Xe 42'' XGA (1024x768) AC PDP was driven using the proposed waveform, the required widths of address pulse for the SW and SE sub-fields were 1.2 and 0.9@ms, respectively, and it was possible to display this PDP with the single-scan method. The measured black luminescence, peak luminescence, and contrast ratio were 0.29, 998cd/m^2, and 3440:1, respectively. The measured sustain margins were sufficient for driving the panel with the single-scan method. ... Read more

Description:
The effects of an additional electric field established near the capillary nozzle on the performance of the electrospray were evaluated through experiments and simulations. Applying the additional electric field, a circular guard plate was connected to a capillary nozzle. The stable cone-jet voltage, droplet size, spray plume angle, and spray current were measured for three types of nozzles. An electrospray nozzle with a nonconducting guard plate (nozzle I), and electrospray nozzles having a conducting guard plate (nozzles II, III) were employed. For the electrospray with the conducting guard plate, the stable cone-jet mode is initiated at a higher voltage and maintained in a wider range of applied voltage than that of the electrospray with the nonconducting guard plate, because the conducting guard plate reduces the electric field near the cone-tip and prevents some electric disturbances. In addition, as the capillary tip to the conducting guard plate distance became smaller, the effect of the guard plate on the spray characteristics appeared more clearly. For the motion of spray droplets, the spray angle became smaller for the case employing the conducting guard plate. The spray plume angles of nozzles II and III were about 17^o and 24^o, respectively, while the spray plume angle of nozzle I was about 68^o. On the other hand, if only the cone-jet mode is initiated, there is not a big difference between all three types of nozzles for the droplet size and the spray current. Therefore, a conducting guard plate could be appropriate for some applications which need a narrow spray plume angle, high velocity droplets, and a wide operating voltage range while maintaining the original advantages of the cone-jet mode. ... Product Description

Heralded by the press and millions of theatergoers for his eleven wildly popular musical stage plays, five-time NAACP award-winning playwright David E. Talbert leaps onto the publishing scene with his debut novel, a big-hearted story about friendship, family, and the relentless pursuit of love.

Baggage Claim gives you a first-class peek into the wacky world of Montana Moore, a thirty-five-year-old flight attendant with enough baggage from her past relationships to fill an entire Samsonite showroom. Montana is an incurable romantic. A dreamer. The kind of woman who has her head in the clouds while her heart splatters swiftly to the ground.

With her mother having just tied the knot for a record-breaking fourth time and her baby sister, Sheree, rushing to jump the broom, five-time maid of honor Montana is dangerously close to becoming not only the oldest, but the only woman in her entire family never to be married.

Having convinced herself that there's no way in heaven or hell she's showing up at her sister's Christmas Eve engagement party without a prospect of her own, Montana concocts her wildest and most romantically ridiculous plan yet: a thirty-day, thirty-thousand-mile trek in search of a husband.

Will it be Damon Diesel, a young hip-hop producer whose motto is "Making the green scream and the dolla holla!"? Or will she win over the Reverend Curtis P. Merewether, pastor and founder of Greater House of Deliverance, Tabernacle of Praise, Worship, and Miracles? Of course Langston Jefferson Battle III, superattorney turned city councilman, needs a wife now that his sights are set on the United States Congress. Or perhaps her lifelong mate is Quinton Jamison, a multimillionaire textile guru twenty years her senior. Only time -- or the lack of it -- will tell.

Fasten your seat belts, lift your tray tables up, and prepare for takeoff. Our final destination: THE ALTAR! ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Vulgar and tasteless
What a disappointment. This book has no depth of story. The characters are nowhere near being developed. Unless judging people by the size of their bank account or their bodily parts is considered character development. I can barely believe that saying an off hand prayer or biblical reference makes this a Christian book as another reviewer J. McLellan said it was categorized as. It's crude, full of cheap shots and cliches.
It's so full of vulgar sexual innuendos and just so much trashy talk and so little story or character development. I'm glad I got it from the library for if I had bought it, I would be sending to where it belongs, in the trash.

1-0 out of 5 stars Disappointed over the friendly skies
Believe it or not, this book was listed as a Christian Romance! If you are not easily offended, this book may entertain you. Montana is trying to get married to please her mother, and she will sleep with just about anything! Her fellow flight attendant enjoys inappropriately rubbing male customers to make them "happy" and another friend is a he-male, they all use horrid language and insult each other frequently.I was sorry I paid money for trash like this and I wanted to warn other readers what is lurking in these pages!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Outstanding Read!!
David E. Talbert has branched off to a new medium in being a famed author and with this his first book, I know that he is destined for greater success!! "Baggage Claim" is an outstanding book and it will make you laugh as well. David has brought his skills of play writing to paper in this novel and I am looking forward to seeing this book on the big screen! David is truly a pioneer and inspiration to us all!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Mileage Plus Program
Montana Moore, 35 yr. old flight attendent in her prime - pressured to arrive at her sister's Christmas Eve party with her future husband.

Mr. Talbert (playwright author) in his debut novel has given us a hilarious story about Montana's quest before Christmas Eve. She has several candidates that she's considering - Quinton Jamison (a sugar daddy multimillionaire who's twenty years older; Reverend Curtis P. Merewether (a Holy Ghost Pastor); Langston Jefferson Battle III (city councilman); Damon Diesel, (a Puff Daddy wannabe); - but will any of these fit the bill???? Or is there someone who Montana just hasn't considered as a prospect?

The pressure is on - Montana has "one" month and thousands of air miles to solve her problem, with a constant reminder from her sisters and mother that females should be married by age thirty.

The humor and laughs in the story is outrageous! It was enjoyment to read this tale.

3-0 out of 5 stars It's fill of laughter
Montana trying to find Mr. Right but she had already had dated the guys she was chasing after to find Mr. Right in.She had a lot of baggage and she continue to accumulate baggage through the book.If you are a reader like myself, you already knew who she was going to end up with. But in all the book was fill of laughter.
