5-0 out of 5 stars sci-fi cinema
Hey! This is Star Wars! If you don't know anything about it then where have you been the past thirty years? Well, this is the final installment of the original trilogy. This is the digitally remastered edition WITHOUT the new or alternate footage put in. Which is good. This is probably the best copy of Return of the Jedi that you can get. It's a great finally to the greatest sci-fi epic of all time!

4-0 out of 5 stars One of the better editions of the Star Wars movie scripts
Premiere Magazine's movie screenplays tend to be a bit plain & straightforward-looking, yet eye-catching at the same time. Depending on whether or not the movie is considered a classic or `popular', the color of the thin posterboard-stock cover will be black or red (the latter being the case for the ROTJ script), respectively. The writing on the cover & spine is in gold foil. The front cover is a die-cut, with the movie's release one-sheet poster featured in the void. Although the die-cut gives the script an attractive look, it tends to get caught up on the edges of the other books on my shelf when I put it away, which can lead to wrinkling and tearing of the cover. So needless to say, I gotta make sure there's a decent space between books when I put this away.

The Script itself is printed in the basic screenplay typeset and format, with each page printed on one side only. The typeface isn't too bold, and can be hard to read at times. The back of the book includes all of the movies (up to 1994) the main cast members have appeared in, as well as four color & four B/W photo reproductions from the movie. I was somewhat disappointed by the kinds of photos included with the ROTJ script- they're the rather plain & very common publicity stills that have been seen many times over in endless other Star Wars publications. I was kinda hoping for some `new' pics, but I guess I'm just S.O.L. in that department...

Aside from `Return of the Jedi', there are also Premiere scripts of the first two pre-SE `Star Wars' flicks, the Star Trek movies from II through VI, The Indiana Jones Trilogy, Rocky, The Wizard of Oz, and many others. If you've a fave movie that's considered a classic, or a popular modern release from the 80s or earlier, there's a good chance that Premiere magazine published a script of it. Unfortunately, they've all been out of print for several years now, which means you're gonna hafta do some big-time hunting if you want to get the Premiere screenplay of your fave flick. More power to you...

One last thing: this particular script is of the original ROTJ. Check out the `Return of The Jedi Script Facsimile' if you're looking for a somewhat similar presentation of the Special Edition screenplay.

Product Description
The first woman in America to own and operate a circus, Agnes Lake spent thirty years under the Big Top before becoming the wife of Wild Bill Hickok--a mere five months before he was killed. While books abound on the famous lawman, Agnes's life has remained obscured by circus myth and legend.

Linda A. Fisher and Carrie Bowers have written the first biography of this colorful but little-known circus performer. Agnes originally found fame as a slack-wire walker and horseback rider, and later as an animal trainer. Her circus career spanned more than four decades. Following the murder of her first husband, Bill Lake, she was the sole manager of the "Hippo-Olympiad and Mammoth Circus." While taking her show to Abilene, she met town marshal Hickok and married him five years later. After Hickok's death, Agnes traveled with P. T. Barnum and Buffalo Bill Cody, and managed her daughter Emma Lake's successful equestrian career.

This account of a remarkable life cuts through fictions about Agnes's life, including her own embellishments, to uncover her true story. Numerous illustrations, including rare photographs and circus memorabilia, bring Agnes's world to life. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars History, Biography, and Circus in One Package
Remember when the circus came to town? Fliers hung from every utility pole, the newspaper announced the featured performers, and we watched the vacant lot transform from a field to a village of tents, animals, sawdust, and vendors.

Linda A. Fisher and Carrie Bowers capture this excitement and add to the suspense by chronicling the life of Agnes Pohlschnider, who later married Wild Bill Hickok. Agnes emigrated to Cincinnati from Germany with her father and three brothers when she was six years old, just six weeks after their mother's death. They changed their surname to Messmann and Agnes's brothers found work building the Erie Canal. When they had saved enough capital, they used their inherited wisdom to start a tobacco and whiskey business in Cincinnati.

Talk about running away with the circus: Agnes met Bill Lake, a circus clown, when she was nineteen years old. and eloped with him. They married in New Orleans in 1846 and soon formed their own circus, traveling the central and eastern parts of the United States.

Fisher and Bowers show us the lifestyle of circus performers, the difficult work behind the scenes, and Agnes's well-developed management abilities as she took over the circus after a disgruntled ticket holder murdered her husband. Later in life, she met and married Wild Bill Hickok and spent a few years with him before an assassin killed him in Deadwood, Black Hills.

For circus lovers, this book brings back the sights, the sounds, and even the smells of circus life. For history lovers, it shows how people lived, where groups moved around the globe, and the development of the western half of the North American continent. For biography lovers, readers have much to learn about a little-known courageous woman of the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful biography of a unique lady of the early circus.
This is a delightful, well-documented biography of Agnes Lake Hickok. Married to circus owner Bill Lake she performed on the wire and on horses in hundreds of circus show in the 1800s. Upon the untimely death of Bill Lake, she became a capable circus owner herself. (The circus history alone is worth the price of the book.) Interestingly, Agnes' circuses were family-oriented and did not have the rowdies and corruption other circuses encountered and she always behaved herself in the manner expected of women of the era.Her eventual marriage to James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickok was cut short when he was murdered in 1876, but historical letters between them spoke of their love for one another.Hickok was a very small part of Agnes life and many might agree that her accomplishments were every bit as spectacular as his.

5-0 out of 5 stars Focusing on a colorful circus performer whose career spanned over four decades
Agnes Lake Hickok was the first woman in the U.S. to own and operate a circus, spending some thirty years in the business before becoming the wife of Wild Bill Hickok, five months before he was killed. It's refreshing to see a review of her life, focusing on a colorful circus performer whose career spanned over four decades.

5-0 out of 5 stars Agnes Lake Hickok - dispelling the myths
This is an excellently researched and written book. Linda Fisher and Carrie Bowers have carefully documented the life of this remarkable woman, who has, until now, been all but lost in the shadows of history.

A noted and celebrated performer in her own right, Agnes Lake Hickok was the first American woman to own and operate her own circus, following the death of her first husband. She later met, and eventually married, James Butler "Wild Bill" Hickok, and was his widow and only wife - not withstanding the foolishness and myths about Calamity Jane Canary being romantically involved with Hickok, tales that have been shown to be the "story-enhancing" filler of pulp fiction novels and "shoot-em-up" cowboy movies.

Agnes's full and rich life is revealed for the first time in this volume, which is complete with period photographs and circus broadsides, maps developed from places mentioned in the text, and an Appendix detailing the routes taken by the Lake Circus, as well as those other shows with which Agnes and Bill Lake traveled, with play dates and locations listed. Of special interest to history buffs, especially those Civil War historians, are the sections dealing with the Lake Circus play dates in Nashville, TN, during the war, with a special look at the Battle of Nashville, which Agnes witnessed first-hand.

Overall, I believe this book will have a broad appeal to circus historians, Wild Bill Hickok fans, and the general reader who enjoys learning about the history of this country that is most often omitted from the "standard" history texts. I strongly recommend it, and commend the authors - and the researchers who assisted them - on a job well done in bringing Agnes Lake Hickok back to life.
