Excerpt: Idaho Transfer is a 1973 science fiction film directed by Peter Fonda. It stars Kelley Bohanon, Kevin Hearst, Dale Hopkins and Keith Carradine. Karen Braden (Kelley Bohanon) is a troubled teen an outpatient at mental health clinics who is suddenly brought by her father George and her sister Isa into a government project stationed near the Craters of the Moon lava fields in Idaho. The project has been commissioned to develop matter transference, but has made a greater leap: the scientists have developed a pair of time machines, and have discovered that a mysterious impending ecological catastrophe will wipe out civilization. Other government entities seek to shut down the project as the idealistic scientists attempt to keep the nature of their discovery a secret. The use of the transfer devices has deleterious effects upon the health of the travelers. Adults "not much older than 20" are unable to survive the journey for long, as apparently their kidneys will begin to hemorrhage. Thus, the scientists have decided to send young people 56 years into the future in order to build a new civilization. On the return trip from her orientation transfer, Karen accidentally kills her sister. Unable to find immediate help, she flees to the future again, where she becomes withdrawn despite the sympathies of the arriving young researchers. After the time machines are taken offline by the government, the young researchers hike toward Portland, Oregon, but certain revelations do not bode well for the project's goals. Increasingly disheartened, Karen hikes back to the transfer station, where she is attacked by another researcher who has been driven mad...http://booksllc.net/?id=444061 ... Read more

Excerpt: Fred Astaire (May 10, 1899 June 22, 1987), born Frederick Austerlitz, was an American film and Broadway stage dancer, choreographer, singer and actor. His stage and subsequent film career spanned a total of 76 years, during which he made 31 musical films. He was named the fifth Greatest Male Star of All Time by the American Film Institute. He is particularly associated with Ginger Rogers, with whom he made ten films. According to another major innovator in filmed dance, Gene Kelly, "The history of dance on film begins with Astaire." Beyond film and television, many classical dancers and choreographers, Rudolf Nureyev, Michael Jackson, Mikhail Baryshnikov, and Jerome Robbins among them, also acknowledged his importance and influence. Fred and Adele Astaire, c.1906Astaire was born in Omaha, Nebraska, the son of Johanna "Ann" (née Geilus) and Frederic "Fritz" Austerlitz (born September 8, 1868, as Friedrich Emanuel Austerlitz). Astaire's mother was born in the United States to Lutheran German immigrants from East Prussia and Alsace, while Astaire's father was born in Linz, Austria, to Jewish parents who had converted to Catholicism. After arriving in New York City at age 24 on October 26, 1892, and being processed at Ellis Island, Astaire's father, hoping to find work in his brewing trade, moved to Omaha, Nebraska, and landed a job with the Storz Brewing Company. Astaire's mother dreamed of escaping Omaha by virtue of her children's talents after Adele Astaire early on revealed herself to be an instinctive dancer an...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=64962 ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Best sports medicine book for the layman
I have purchased 3 copies of this book over the years asI routinely loan them to friends. The book is an easy read, but remarkably comprehensive for a book designed forthe lay public.Garrick, unlike many orthopedic surgeons, prefers to take a conservative approach to joint problems with surgery as the last option. He covers rehabilitation for the major joints, advice that has proved invaluable for me for both tennis elbow and a torn ACL. Tennis elbow cleared up following strengthening exercises he recommeded.Strengthening did not resolve the ACL tear in my knee and I did have an ACL repair done.Take his advice, keep your vastus medialis strong and you won't have any knee problems. He offers good advice on self treatment for simple sprains, but clearly points out conditions that need to be seen by a specialist ASAP. I highly recommend this book. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars VERY DISAPPOINTED :(
I bought this book after seeing in on a Bucks County site. It talked about a ride that went from New Hope to Lancaster and how scenic it was. After getting the book and looking up that ride I couldnt believe it actually said that there was a lot of beautiful roads going from New Hope to Lancaster but that he was giving directions via HIGHWAYS! I could have done THAT looking at a map! VERY DISAPPOINTED :(

4-0 out of 5 stars it was ok
this was ok but wished it had more than one ride per state there are alot more than what this book said. Its a good place to start tho.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love the open road
This book provides interesting day trips and places to not miss to get the real "flavor" of an area.It has helped my husband and meplan what we really want to remember when visiting different areas. Many reviews from other sources offer faster paced and newer areas of interest. We like to kick back and enjoy the REAL things that make America special.

1-0 out of 5 stars Good primer for nouveau-riders, not seasoned tourers
I am in the middle of planning a 3-week bike trip from Oregon to Nova Scotia (last summer we did 9,000 miles in a month through Alaska), and thought this book might give me some ideas for interesting routes around the center of the country - where we've never been and where I'm having trouble finding nice twisty roads.

Unfortunately, I found the books' limitations, like the other tourers here, in that it is targeted towards bikers and not riders.

A title change to "Great American Motorcycle Rides" would be imminently more appropriate. A 'Ride' is a short jaunt to see things, a 'Tour' is an epic journey.

If you have some good long trips under your belt already, and enjoy riding rather than stopping for lunch at trendy local eateries, this book has nothing to teach you.

If you're new to riding, over 40, and just purchased your first Harley in the last few years, then this book will give you tons of great information.

Still in doubt? Check out the other reviews - nearly all the 5-stars are from new riders.

5-0 out of 5 stars A wide variety of suggested motorcycle tours
Now in an updated and expanded second edition, Great American Motorcycle Tours by Gary McKechnie offers the reader a wide variety of suggested motorcycle tours ideal for vacationers and cyclists looking for history, excitement, and the joy of the open road. Different tours appeal to different tastes, such an Amish Country Run stretching from New Hope to Intercourse, Pennsylvania, or a Wild West Run from Livingston, Montana to Jackson, Wyoming. Each individual tour has numerous historic stops, and any attraction can be easily looked up in the index for "user friendly" cross-referencing. Overall, Great American Motorcycle Tours is an enjoyable, practical, and very highly recommended guide. ... Read more
