Excerpt: Sutton Foster (born March 18, 1975) is an American actress, singer and dancer. Foster has appeared in many Broadway musicals, including the Mel Brooks musical Young Frankenstein and Shrek the Musical. She has been nominated for four Tony Awards, winning one for her performance as Millie Dillmount in Thoroughly Modern Millie. Foster was born in Statesboro, Georgia and raised in Troy, Michigan. At age fifteen, she was a contestant on the television show Star Search and also auditioned for the cast of The Mickey Mouse Club. She left Troy High School before graduating (she received her diploma via correspondence courses) to join the national tour of The Will Rogers Follies directed by Tommy Tune. She then attended Carnegie Mellon University for one year, but left to pursue a theatrical career full-time. Her brother is actor Hunter Foster. Foster's first Broadway role was Sandy Dumbrowski in Grease in 1996. She then appeared in The Scarlet Pimpernel and as Star to Be in Annie in 1997. Foster's next Broadway role was Eponine in Les Misérables in 2000. Foster's big break was reminiscent of 42nd Street when, during rehearsals of the pre-Broadway run of Thoroughly Modern Millie at the La Jolla Playhouse in San Diego, she replaced leading lady Erin Dilly. Any apprehension about having an unknown playing the lead in a nearly $10 million Broadway production was proven unfounded when she opened at the Marquis Theatre to primarily rave reviews. Foster went on to win the 2002 Tony Award for Best Leading Actress in a Musical, th...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=1212502 ... Read more

Source: Wikipedia. Pages: 50. Not illustrated. Free updates online. Purchase includes a free trial membership in the publisher's book club where you can select from more than a million books without charge. Excerpt: John Loy Rocker (born October 17, 1974) is a retired American Major League Baseball relief pitcher who played for the Atlanta Braves, the Cleveland Indians, the Texas Rangers, and the Tampa Bay Devil Rays as well as the Long Island Ducks of the independent Atlantic League of Professional Baseball. He threw left-handed and batted right-handed. Rocker is a native of Macon, Georgia. He resides in Atlanta. Rocker was a star pitcher for First Presbyterian Day School in Macon, Georgia. Notably, Rocker threw three no-hitters during his high school career. He was soon drafted by the Atlanta Braves. The next year, he was promoted to the major-league club and was named their closer after an injury to regular closer Kerry Ligtenberg. Rocker finished the 1998 season with an earned run average of 2.13 in 38 innings pitched. 1999 proved to be Rocker's best year statistically, and after becoming the Braves' full-time closer, he converted 38 saves and had an ERA of 2.49 in 74 games. In June 2000, Rocker was demoted for threatening a reporter, and Jason Marquis was called up to the majors for the first time by the Braves. For a story published in the January 2000 issue of Sports Illustrated, Rocker made a number of comments stemming from his experiences in New York City, and answered a question about whether he would ever play for the New York Yankees or the New York Mets. Rocker's response was accused of being racist, homophobic, and sexist: During the interview, he made his feelings about the New York Mets and their fans known: The int...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=657205 ... Product Description

Betsy hopes that whoever moves into the house across the street will have a little girl just her age. And the little girl who moves in is just her age. Her name is Tacy. She is very bashful, but she likes to listen to Betsy's stories—wonderful stories that the girls love, and that they keep as their own special secret.

After a while, it's hard to remember a time when Betsy and Tacy weren't best friends.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book is so cute!
When I was about 7 my mom wanted to read these books. At first, I thought it was going to be like Juni B. Jones or something with bratty little girls. Then, when I read it I thought it was adorable. It's really fun to read and talks about girls finding best friends, as the series goes along it gets better. I still haven't read the ones when their in their teens, but I want to. I think that the characters are built well and the setting is nice and quaint. The book isn't a hard book to read and its autobiographical. So, Maude Hart Lovelace (isn't that a pretty name?), knew what she was talking about.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful book!
I bought this book for my granddaughter.I was going to start collecting the series for her and present it to her on her 5th bday. But couldn't wait. This book is so charming and full of wonderful lessons of life that kids today don't get to see very often.I would encourage you to buy this book for your kids, grandkids and even yourself if you'd like to take a step back in time!

4-0 out of 5 stars Heartwarming series

I was an avid reader as a young child and don't know how I missed the Betsy~Tacy books by Maud Hart Lovelace. I would have loved these books and read them back to back if I had known about them. I am thrilled that I have been able to discover them as an adult and plan to share the discovery with my niece and friends who have young daughters. This heartwarming series is actually set at the turn of the century, over 100 years ago in the small town of Mankato, Minnesota. In the first book, Betsy~Tacy, Betsy is a young 5 year old girl wishing for a girl her own age to move into her neighborhood. Lo and behold, another family moves in across the strreet and they have a 5 year old girl named Tacy who is quite shy and bashful but the girls become the best of friends. Betsy and Tacy have many adventures, get into trouble, and have very vivid imaginations. They help each other adjust to life in kindergarten and dealing with sibling issues.

5-0 out of 5 stars My always and forever favorite children's book

My beloved aunt dug a dusty old copy of Betsy-Tacy out of her attic for me when I was 4 or 5 years old. From the very beginning, I wanted to climb inside this book and live there forever. It is the happiest and coziest book in the world. Written in the 1940s, Betsy-Tacy is an account of Maud Hart Lovelace's turn-of-the-century childhood in Mankato, MN--which becomes Deep Valley in the book. All of the main characters and most of the minor ones are based on people that Lovelace really knew. The stories of a childhood lived simply and happily are pure magic, as are the illustrations by Lois Lenski. Ms Lovelace went on to write nine more books in this series, following Betsy's life through her first year of marriage. A particularly nice aspect of the stories is that the reading level increases with each book.
