Product Description

Academy Award®-winning actor Morgan Freeman and a star-studded group of celebrities contribute exotic recipes and personal island tales in a splendid cookbook created to help rebuild the hurricane-devastated island of Grenada.

In September 2004, Hurricane Ivan ravaged the small Caribbean island of Grenada, destroying homes and changing lives forever. Longtime island-lover Morgan Freeman established the Grenada Relief Fund in 2005. Now comes this beautiful cookbook, bringing together a bevy of celebrities to benefit this island in need.

This star-studded cookbook features:

• more than 15 celebrities—including Michael Douglas, Kenny Chesney, Katie Couric, Tom Hanks, Hilary Swank, and Alicia Keys—appearing in gorgeous full-color photographs, sharing their favorite Caribbean recipes, and telling heartwarming stories of what the islands mean to them

• dozens of delicious recipes, such as Grilled Swordfish Steak with Lemon Caperberry Butter from Morgan Freeman, and Kenny Chesney’s favorite Key Lime Pie with photographs of Mr. Chesney baking it himself in the kitchen of his home on St. John

• renowned chefs from Caribbean hideaways of the stars and top-rated resorts, revealing some of their most coveted Caribbean recipes
Morgan Freeman is donating all of his proceeds to the Grenada Relief Fund

5-0 out of 5 stars SAIL ON
ENJOYED SEEING A LIFE OF MORGAN FREEMAN THAT I DID NOT KNOW, HIS LIFE ON HIS SAILBOAT WITH A LOVE OF FOODS OF THE ISLANDS. CAN'T WAIT TO TRY MANY OF THE RECIPES.

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Thumbs up and Five Stars for These Delicious Recipes
The other day I went through my cookbooks, to see if I could weed some out, because I have too many to mention. It's hard getting rid of a cookbook, especially one with a few recipes in it that you've come to love. But I've scanned the recipes I need to keep forever into my MacBook. However, there were an even dozen I couldn't part with. These are books I turn to time and time again, even though I consider myself somewhat of a gourmet chef.

Morgan Freeman's COOKING FOR A CAUSE was one of the books I kept. Not only does Mr. Freeman's book help out the people of Grenada, who suffered during Hurricane Ivan, but it can help you out in the kitchen as well. Friday last I made the "Classic Conch Ceviche the Cayman Way" which you can find on page 47. It was delicious. I've also done the "Arroz Con Pollo" a Cuban dish from the Kitchen of Daisy's Grandmother." And that's the rub, is this classic Caribbean food or is it another book of recipes from fancy restaurants. Does it matter? The recipes make delicious meals with a distinct Caribbean flavor, which makes Mr. Freeman's book fit in nicely with my dozen Caribbean keeper cookbooks.

And I have to give Mr. Freeman a hand for doing something for the people of Grenada. I was hunkered down in Trinidad, thanking Neptune the hurricane didn't come for me. But it's sad it went for others. This is a good cookbook, one which will help you turn out delicious meals, plus it's for a great cause. Two thumbs up and five stars from me.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great gift!
I ordered this book as a gift for a friend for Christmas. She is a big Morgan Freeman fan, so I thought it would be perfect. She loved it! I'm not sure if she has finished the book yet or not, but, regardless, it was a perfect fit!

2-0 out of 5 stars Disappointment
It is simply a rehash of his career.I'd love to see an autobiography. That would be a best seller, I'm sure.

3-0 out of 5 stars This biography does not do him justice
Morgan Freeman is an icon in the world of film and theater. As someone in this book says, everything in which he appears becomes better because of his presence.Author Kathleen Tracy shows us Freeman's early days and his rise to fame, but somehow she never gets inside his head. She writes the facts as a reporter would, but I never felt as if I got to know what makes this man "tick".There are lots of quotes about what he thinks and feels about acting, but not much about what he feels about life. His family life is glossed over, both his early years and his relationship to his wife and children.I have the utmost respect for this man, but was disappointed not to learn more about what makes him the great actor that he is.

2-0 out of 5 stars Parsimonious!
I was very disappointed with this book and can not recommend it.I think that Morgan Freeman is a very dynamic actor.I enjoy his performances in every movie he had a part in.I read a lot of biographical books.A good one will leaving you feeling like you have had a one-on-one conversation about one's life journey.I felt that this book should have been marketed as a behind the movie scenes type of book.Either Mr. Freeman was being parsimonious with his biography or Kathleen Tracy just could not get him to share.Even the "behind the movie scenes" info was slow and boring.

However, Mr. Freeman some of your fans (like me) really want to know more about you, your journey, and pearls of wisdom.I look forward to another biographical book about you in the future.

4-0 out of 5 stars Lovely recording of the Christmas Story
I bought this because of the Morgan Freeman "A Savior is Born" half of the CD, which I had seen on video and loved.(The video illuminates this lovely recording so beautifully through "stained glass" images.)It is so well written, with a number of insightful phrasings, which add to its depth. It is the true Biblical account. The only small complaint I'd have at all is that they call Mary a "maiden" instead of a "virgin".The music is outstanding--really beautiful. My five kids, ranging from 8 to 2, all love this.
We have listen to the Garrison Keillor part only once, and I didn't enjoy the music right off, but we really like Garrison Keillor and the parables, too, of course, and will give it a few more tries. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Skimpy but worthwhile to get in paperback
Surprisingly frank for a book aimed at kids, this brief biography is the equivalent of a full-length magazine profile. In the illustrations, a bitof cheating has been done: Freeman's Mississippi childhood is illustratedwith a generic photo of Southern sharecroppers, his Air Force years with ageneric photo of black servicemen, and so on. More research could probablyhave yielded both a better selection of photographs and more out of the wayinformation, but still a pleasing book for both children and fans. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Two Tales about heroism and determination.
Rabbit Ears has done it again with their new audio CDs that came out since 2006.This time, this audio CD features two tales about African-Americans making history in America.

In "Follow the Drinking Gourd," Morgan Freeman narrates about a family's struggles to escape from slavery by following the drinking gourd in the sky.In "John Henry," this famous tale, narrated by Denzel Washington, relates the story of a "natural" man named John Henry and his battle with the steam drill.

In "Follow the Drinking Gourd," Morgan Freeman narrates with such tenderness that the story is extremely soothing to listen to. Taj Mahal's guitar solos also makes this story a treat to listen to.In "John Henry," Denzel Washington narrates with energy and confidence about a confident man who shows everyone how natural he really is when he tries to help build the railroad.B.B. King's blues music makes this story very interesting to listen to as it is full of energy. This audio CD is certainly a treat to listen to for anyone who is a big fan of the Rabbit Ears Series.

4-0 out of 5 stars TONS of useful information for serious producers/exec producers
This is a great book if you are looking at film development and productionas a serious, ongoing business at which you expect to make money for yourself and your investors. This is not the book for you if you just want to produce one movie now, and (hopefully) another one in the near future. This is more a book that describes a business model for producing mainly relatively risk-free films -- in other words, films that are not being done entirely on spec, but actually have interested parties who can monetize the film.

I would say it could be helpful to one-off producers in that it helps you understand the position savvy exec producers are in (who are, by the way, the ones you most likely want to deal with). This is helpful because if you can understand that, you can understand how to approach them.

Again, if you are just looking to produce a one-off film (which I'd say is most people), this book will be of limited value, but if you are more money motivated and risk averse (or at least understand and appreciate the value of money in the process of developing and producing films for profit) you can definitely benefit from the advice contained herein.

Extremely highly recommended, but only for the serious-minded feature film entrepreneur.

1-0 out of 5 stars Worthless
As a practicing attorney and filmmaker, I found John J. Lee, Jr.'s book to be practically useless. While the table of contents is impressive, his discussion of each topic is cursory and usually limited to a couple paragraphs of very broad and general language. The limited industry data provided is dated and the few documents that are provided, mostly arcane excel spreadsheet forms, are so specifically tailored to extremely large studio multi-picture deals as to be useless to anyone other than a major studio executive without legal counsel (unlikely) or a first-time producer of a multi-million dollar feature and a large legal budget (again, not likely ) or an accountant. For your money and time, there are much better books and materials out there that provide good, solid practical advice and information for independant filmmakers and attorneys alike.

2-0 out of 5 stars Those who do not produce films give seminars and write books
From the appendix the book is based on a lie.He first states all of the forms that are presented on the CD.He claims the AFMA International Multiple Rights Deal Letter is on this CD!It most certainly IS NOT!All of the rest of his forms, which are for the most part, pretty much irrelevant are there, and presented in a very outdated fashion. The information in the book is logical and methodical and is a sensible approach to producing films, but I am certain he has never done so.He has a 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, priority approach to financing and distribution which is seldom the way in which situations transpire in the world in which films are produced. His book is a text book world for students in a class room, as is his world best served "giving" his seminars, then in actually producing films. The book certainly disseminates a wonderful amount of options and fully exlores them all in detail and accuracy, in a way that breaks incredibly complicated information into simplicity which is terrific and most appreciated. This is by far my favorite book on film producing. But I purchased the book for the CD and that agreement and he did not honor that agreement or his word, therefore, I have no respect for him or his publisher.

5-0 out of 5 stars 5 Stars
If you're not a [professional] or a rich kid then you had better know what you're doing.Read everything you can find.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent "Business Side" of the business book.
Make no mistake, this is NOT a book about producing a film or running a production. This is a great book about the 'business side' of the film business.

Lots of information on how prodco's are set up, figuring out distribution (although nothing about going the direct-to-video route) deals.

No matter what kind of production company you are setting upyou will find information of use in here but it's not about production planning from the sense of scheduling or day-to-day running a prodco. ... Read more

Auszug: John Dendahl is a syndicated columnist and was a Republican politician from New Mexico until he moved to Denver, Colorado. He was a member of the United States ski team at the 1960 Winter Olympics. Dendahl served as New Mexico's Secretary of Economic Development and Tourism from 1988 to 1990, a position to which he was appointed by Republican Governor Garrey Carruthers. In 1994, Dendahl unsuccessfully sought the Republican gubernatorial nomination, losing to businessman Gary E. Johnson. In late 1994, Dendahl was elected chairman of the New Mexico Republican Party, a position he held until he was defeated for re-election as chairman by Republican State Senator Ramsay Gorham of Albuquerque in 2003. Dendahl was the 2006 Republican gubernatorial nominee. He became so on June 17, 2006 when Dr. J.R. Damron, the Republican who won the primary election, suddenly dropped out. Dendahl was nominated by the state GOP Central Committee at a meeting in downtown Albuquerque with only perhaps 100 of the some 350 committee members in attendance. Immediately after his installment as the Republican nominee, Dendahl wasted no time in making it personal. In a TV interview following his surprise nomination, he called his Democratic opponent, imcumbent Governor Bill Richardson, "mean, selfish and vindictive." And the Democrats went to work on Dendahl's Achilles heel--his support of drug legalization. "Not only did the GOP bail on one of their own, they installed a venomous and divisive radical who supports policies, su...http://booksllc.net/?l=de ... Read more

Excerpt: Andrew Johnson (December 29, 1808 July 31, 1875) was the 17th President of the United States (18651869). Following the assassination of President Lincoln, Johnson presided over the Reconstruction era of the United States in the four years after the American Civil War. His tenure was highly controversial as his positions favoring the white South came under heavy political attack from Republicans. At the time of the secession of the Southern states, Johnson was a U.S. Senator from Greeneville in East Tennessee. As a Unionist, he was the only Southern senat...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=1624 ... Read more
