Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! On July 28, 2006, at 2:36am PDT, Mel Gibson was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence (DUI) of alcohol after being stopped for speeding (87 mph/140 km/h in a 45 mph/72 km/h zone) in his 2006 Lexus LS 430 on Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu, California. A breathalyzer test measured Gibson's blood-alcohol level as "0.12%" (the state's legal limit is 0.08%), and next to him was an open container of "Cazadores Tequila," 750ml at 75% full. Gibson was described by the arresting officer James Mee as cooperative until arrested, at which point he became belligerent and experienced mood swings. While handcuffed in the car, Gibson made anti-Semiticremarks to Mee, who is Jewish. Gibson was released on bail at 9 am PDT. TMZ broke the story of Gibson's arrest for DUI on July 28 at 7 pm PDT and later that night posted photocopies of an unofficial arrest report. The next day Gibson confessed to driving under the influence and to "despicable" behavior during his arrest, and a frenzy of media coverage followed. ... Read more

Product Description
The War On Mel Gibson explains why Mel Gibson's movie The Passion of the Christ has stirred such a furor. Isn't it just another Jesus movie? Evidently not and Dr. North reveals who Mel Gibson's persecutors are, what they did, how they did it, and why they lost this battle – a battle they knew they had to win. How bad did they lose? The movie made more money in the final five days of February than any movie had ever made in February. The movie then made more money in March than any movie had ever made in March. Before the release of the DVD it had earned over $368 million, making it #7 in American box office earnings history. Those that opposed the release of this movie lost pretty badly.

Beyond the financial success of the movie, more important, was the human and spiritual success of the movie. People came to Christ and others found new depth for their faith after viewing the film. Relationships were restored and crimes were confessed as criminals turned themselves in. What a demonstration of the power of the Gospel of Christ! The film has proved to be a phenomenon. Dr. Gary North shares why he believes that The Passion of the Christ was not just another movie about Jesus. Its release was a watershed event heralding a coming change.

Beyond the detailing of the opposition to Mel Gibson, The War on Mel Gibson also presents a winning strategy for Bible-believing Christians to take back lost cultural territory. (Hardback, 201 pages) ... Read more

Excerpt: The Passion of the Christ (Aramaic: , Hebrew: , Latin: ; originally called The Passion), is a 2004 motion picture directed, co-produced (with Bruce Davey and Stephen McEveety), and co-written (with Benedict Fitzgerald) by Mel Gibson which dramatizes the Passion of Jesus largely according to the Christian Bible's New Testament Gospels: Matthew, Mark, Luke, and John. The film largely covers the final twelve hours of Jesus' life beginning with the Agony in the Garden and ending with a brief depiction of his resurrection. Flashbacks of Jesus as a child, the Sermon on the Mount, the saving of Mary Magdalene from being stoned to death, the Last Supper, and a humorous scene of extra-biblical origin establishing Jesus' profession as a carpenter are also included. It stars Jim Caviezel as Jesus, Maia Morgenstern as Mary, Monica Bellucci as Mary Magdalene, Hristo Naumov Shopov as Pontius Pilate, Francesco De Vito as Peter, Hristo Jivkov as John, Mattia Sbragia as Caiphas, Claudia Gerini as Claudia, Rosalinda Celentano as Satan, and Luca Lionello as Judas Iscariot. The Passion of the Christ was produced independently and filmed in Italy primarily at Cinecittà Studios in Rome and the old city of Matera. The estimated $30 million production cost, plus an additional $15 million in marketing costs were fully borne by Gibson and his Icon Productions. It was released on Ash Wednesday, February 25, 2004. It was rated R by the Motion Picture Association of America due to the violence. Newmarket Films distributed the film in the United States. Excerpt: Mel Colm-Cille Gerard Gibson, AO (born January 3, 1956) is an American Australian actor, film director, producer and screenwriter. Born in Peekskill, New York, Gibson moved with his parents to Sydney when he was 12 years old and later studied acting at the National Institute of Dramatic Art. After appearing in the Mad Max and Lethal Weapon series, Gibson went on to direct and star in the Academy Award-winning Braveheart. Gibson's direction of Braveheart made him the sixth actor-turned-filmmaker to receive an Academy Award for Best Director. In 2004, he directed and produced The Passion of the Christ, a controversial but successful film that portrayed the last hours of the life of Jesus Christ. The movies he has acted in have grossed more than two billion dollars in the U.S. alone. Gibson was born in Peekskill, New York, the sixth of eleven children, and the second son of Hutton Gibson and Irish-born Anne Patricia (née Reilly). His paternal grandmother was the Australian opera soprano, Eva Mylott (18751920). One of Gibson's younger brothers, Donal, is also an actor.
