Product Description
Men couldn't help but be drawn to her exquisite beauty and incomparable grace. But Thandy knew Dr. Jackson Gabrielle was different the minute they met. And indeed, Jack knew that this enchanting creature was meant for him, despite the fact that he was already married.

Thandy and Jack's decade-long affair might have been continued indefinitely, the hard-working attorney and the high-profile surgeon scraping together moments for each other out of their crazed schedules, if Thandy hadn't learned from Jack's bitter wife that he had taken up with yet another woman. Thandy moves on, leaving Jack in Atlanta for a big job in Chicago. Jack, used to getting everything he has ever wanted with ease, is forced to figure out what it takes to hold on to something he loves. And Thandy, having fought her whole life for everything she has achieved, realizes the true measure of her strength. But fate intervenes and sets into motion a series of events leading to a shocking climax that forever changes everything.

Despite a past filled with poverty and heartache, Thandy manages to create a successful life for herself and her daughter. However, a lifetime of secrets threatens to destroy what she loves most.Author, Goldie Taylor slowly and tantalizingly introduces the characters as she artfully develops the story line in this contemporary novel about redemption and forgiveness.Overall, "The January Girl" is worth the read.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Choices We Make
This novel is about a woman, Thandy, and her quest to find love and happiness.Growing up, Thandy had a troubled childhood with her parents and found love with Monty.Monty cared for Thandy in the ways she wanted but she was unaware of the dangerous lifestyle he led.Life was becoming lovely for Thandy and Monty until local authorities got involved.

Thandy decided to change her life for herself and her daughter for good. She went to college and became a successful lawyer. Now she's met another guy, Jackson Gabrielle, who is a successful surgeon who seemingly fills Thandy's empty heart with expensive gifts and love.As Thandy discovers the truth about Jackson , she will be forced to decide between happiness and her dignity. Which one will she choose?

Goldie Taylor's "The January Girl" was a very good and exciting read.It started out slow with many details but turned out to have a stunning ending.I recommend this book to all females in relationships.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent Storyteller
In the January Girl Goldie Taylor weaves a gripping story of love, obsession and the complexities that make up most relationships.Central to this story are the arrogant, talented and rich surgeon Jack Gabrielle and his long term mistress Thandy Malone.Jack felt that he didn't need anyone until he nearly lost Thandy and learned what love and need really were.As Thandy is the "other woman" as a reader I didn't expect to like her, but she proved to be more complex than just some chick after another woman's husband. Her character is intelligent, surprisingly loyal and driven. You feel that the spoiled and arrogant Jack doesn't deserve her. This author's writing style was wonderful and kept my attention throughout. The only reason I didn't give it 5 stars was because at the end the pace seemd to pick up too quickly and the book ended somewhat too tidily, although tragically.Did true love win out?You will have to read and decide for yourself.

4-0 out of 5 stars (RAW Rating:3.5) Love Persistently
Thandywaye Malone (Thandy) is a successful business woman with a wonderful daughter, butin a relationship she sees no future in.The man she loves, Dr. Jackson Gabrielle, is married and has been for the ten years they have been together. He is one of the most successful neurosurgeons in the country, with two sons and a wife who disconnected from the relationship, with a bottle, years ago. However, Jackson has a problem being faithful, to anyone and his lack of being trustworthy is the act that may lose him his wife and his mistress.

THE JANUARY GIRL explores the thought processes of the integral characters as they discover their true selves and move toward a more satisfying future, as well as right their past wrongs. It is a unique tale of love and Taylor gives readers an opportunity to delve into the characters to ensure understanding. The short chapters made for a faster pace, which made this a quick read, but there were several subplots that although important, were not always fully explained which made it feel like the story was missing something. The story has a good moral message with an unpredictable ending.

Product Description
Warm, sensitive, creative, outgoing, cheeky, creepy. Scan any personal ads page and it's clear that to get a life you need a personality first. It is also a notion with a long and often bizarre history: in early Greece and medieval Europe, it was thought to depend on the balance of bile in the body.
On Personality is a thoughtful and stimulating look under the skin of this widely-used but little understood phenomenon. Peter Goldie points out that we rely on personality to do a lot of work: describe, judge, understand, explain and predict others as well as ourselves. Is it really up to this task? If personality is about 'character', is it a relic of a bygone Victorian age? If personality is so reliable, how can a virtue in one person be a vice in another?
Drawing on a great range of philosophers, novelists and films, from Aristotle, Hume, Kant and Nietzsche to Joseph Conrad, Middlemarch, War and Peace and Bridget Jones' Diary, Peter Goldie also discusses some famous psychology experiments. If personality is a reliable guide to predicting what people will do, he reflects on why people often surprise us and asks whether personality is simply down to chance andcircumstance.
On Personality is essential reading for anyone interested in this fascinating but slippery concept. It will also make you think twice before writing your CV. ... Read more

This book should really be called On Character, because that is what Goldie really spends the majority of the book trying to define. While the series are written for laymen who are interested in learning the basics of philosophy and specifically character (myself included). 5-0 out of 5 stars How to stay inspired for a whole year!
After taking a course with Rabbi Milgram at a Jewish Renewal conference, I had to buy this book.It totally transformed my "pre" High Holy Days preparation and made me contemplate deeply how to clear out some of the "schmutz" (R. Milgram's word) from an important and troubled relationship.

I went to it again at Passover, for inspiration on how to create a Seder that would be meaningful to the three year old at our table, and the newly widowed 86 year old.Rabbi Milgram infuses her concepts with so much love and playfulness - we all dressed up as Jews from Moses day!Everyone loved the dress-up.The little one was unable to ask the four questions, but he was absolutely thrilled to order "let my people go" to a big doll we had dressed up as pharoah.

This book teaches how to bring Judaism alive - make it participatory for all, fun, relevant, current, and honor G-d and our relationship with Him and each other.

It is the "jewel" of my library - a handbook I could not now be without.

5-0 out of 5 stars thoroughly helpful and enjoyable read
I enjoyed this book thoroughly. Rabbi Milgram engaged this reader on both intellectual and emotional levels. Her clarity of vision reveals how Judaism fits together as a system of remarkable spiritual practices. Perhaps it is because she travels internationally as an experiential workshop leader/teacher that she communicates with the reader with such an immediacy about celebrating Judiasm through Shabbat and the Holy Days.. Humanity shines through herwriting which is respectful and inclusive of the wide range of ways of being Jewish and the different needs each member of a family tends to have in relating to Judaism.Rather than tell you what you ought to do, Reb Goldie offers novel and detailed recipes for creating anexperience of the richness and depth of Jewish tradition in your life. Her teachings have enriched my life and deepened my connections with other people in ways I would not have imagined possible.

5-0 out of 5 stars Reclaiming Judaism as a Spiritual Practice
I found that the book was quite helpful for the teaching that I am doing with my students. Claire Ginsburg Goldstein, Mitzvah Manager of CBI, Cong. Beth Israel of Bergenfield, NJ.

5-0 out of 5 stars Spiritual Guidance for applying Jewish Wisdom in daily practice~Read this book! Be amazed with your Spiritual Awakenings!
Rabbi Milgram's books are a delight to read: Reclaiming Judaism as a Spiritual Practice-Holy Days and Shabbat, and Meaning of Mitzvah: Reclaiming Judaism through Daily Practices of Prayer, God, Torah, Hebrew, Mitzvot & Peoplehood and in my opinion are theological classics. Rabbi Milgram presents the liturgy in such a warm hearted, scholarly, and alive way that I must tell you I could not put the books down and was disappointed when I finished them thirsting for more insight, knowledge, and integration. Rabbi Milgram has a natural talent delivering the information to the reader in such a flowing manner that one can easily travel with her on the journey toward spiritual development and enlightenment. I highly recommend these beautiful books for spiritual insight, clarity, and daily inspiration. I reference Rabbi Milgram's teachings often for the wisdom of her spiritual guidance. She is truly a modern day Jewish heroine and as you read her words you will recognize she is truly a modern day sage.

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring Exercises and Meditations
There are a lot of books on the Jewish holidays. What makes this book special is the array of creative exercises and meditations that highlight the personal and spiritual side of Judaism. It's great for anyone on a spiritual journey, and also an excellent resource for educators and Jewish professionals. As a rabbi, I have used the exercises in the book with my congregants. Rabbi Goldie Milgram is a very creative and original teacher who delights in sharing a myriad of personal experiences. Her book makes you feel like you have a personal Jewish teacher or mentor who helps you find your own experience of Judaism. ... Read more

Product Description

What is conceptual art? Is it really a kind of art in its own right? Is it clever – or too clever?

Of all the different art forms it is perhaps conceptual art which at once fascinates and infuriates the most. In this much-needed book Peter Goldie and Elisabeth Schellekens demystify conceptual art using the sharp tools of philosophy. They explain how conceptual art is driven by ideas rather than the manipulation of paint and physical materials; how it challenges the very basis of what we can know about art, as well as our received ideas of beauty; and why conceptual art requires us to rethink concepts fundamental to art and aesthetics, such as artistic interpretation and appreciation.

Including helpful illustrations of the work of celebrated conceptual artists from Marcel Duchamp, Joseph Kosuth and Piero Manzoni to Dan Perjovschi and Martin Creed, Who’s Afraid of Conceptual Art? is a superb starting point for anyone intrigued but perplexed by conceptual art - and by art in general. It will be particularly helpful to students of philosophy, art and visual studies seeking an introduction not only to conceptual art but fundamental topics in art and aesthetics.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fun Chapter Book!
What Mom Liked:This is a fun mix of fantasy and reality! It takes a familiar, perhaps tired, story of Goldilocks and reinvents it into something kids of all ages will enjoy as they think of what might have been the story behind the story. The main character, nine-year-old JellyBelle, engages readers in a mystery and problem-solving challenge.I'd love to take this concept and try it with other traditional stories when Esmé is older:it teaches that the obvious story (or first impression) usually has many layers behind it and encourages her to look at things through different characters' points of view.

There are also some practical lessons throughout, such as how to be considerate of others, clean up after yourself, and diplomatically problem-solve.

I'd love to check out the rest of the series for Esmé's library!

What Mom Didn't Like:Not much! The one thing I would have loved would have been a few illustrations throughout the book.My daughter is 3, admittedly young for this book. However, we do read a lot of chapter books, and she especially enjoys them if there are pictures.

5-0 out of 5 stars Finally, Goldilock's Side of the Story!
What a great read! I loved reading the various versions of the wolf's side of "Three Little Pigs" and watching my children's surprised reaction. This book is sure to bring the same wonder and delight! What fun it is for all of us to experience a creative twist in a familiar fairy tale and inspire our own imagination. Can't wait for the next book!

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome & Fun !
The Trouble with Goldie is an awesome read all around. You know the author does an amazing job with the book when the adult reader wants to see what happens on the next page as much as the child does. This book puts a whole new twist on the traditional Goldie Locks & The Three Bears, one that's sure to foster imagination even when the book is through!

5-0 out of 5 stars An Enchanting Book!
The Trouble with Goldie is an enchanting read! The book follows the main character, Jelle Belle, as she is transported in to the book "Goldielocks and the Three Bears" to help the bears with the continuing visits of Goldie. The book contains many good themes for children - doing your chores, being nice to your siblings, the fun and wonder of books and listening to your parents. The story follows the daily life a family combined with the fantasy world of a young child.I would recommend this book to people with children aged 3-10.I LOVED this book and can't wait for the next one! ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Best Book , Doll Hospital
The best book I've read this year was Doll Hospital. Doll Hospital is about two sisters that live with their grandma AKA Nana while their parents are treating ill people in Africa

The two girls Lila and Rose help their grandma with her job. Their grandma fixes dolls for people. Lila and Rose discover that they love dolls and get really close to their grandma. I cant tell you any more than that, you will justhave to buy the book yourself to find out.

If you love dolls you should definately buy this book because it has lots of dolls, clothes and lots of more girly things. Doll hospital is a great book for girls if they like
dolls.

I really hope you buy this book and enjoy it.

3-0 out of 5 stars Not the Best
I did not really enjoy reading Goldie's Fortune. There is not much action which makes it sometimes boring. The characters are also a little bit over dramatic. Rose and Lila make big deal over the littlest things. There is also very little history so it's almost like reading a realistic fiction book. I was hoping there would be more history and less fiction. I would suggest this book for 8-9 year olds because of the storyline and the reading level.

Rose and Lila's parents are doctor's and they are on a business trip in Africa so they have to stay with there hippy grandmother. Plus go to a new school. There grandma is a doll doctor which means that she basically repairs dolls. One day this woman drops off a rag doll named Goldie. The doll doctor can talk to dolls and this is how she finds out Goldie's story. One night Rose and Lila's grandma starts telling them Goldie's story. This is where the history comes in. Goldie's owner is a rich little girl who lives in a big house and then along comes the great depression.

If you are over the age of ten you might not be interested in this book. But I think young readers would really enjoy it. I think one of the reason's I didn't enjoy this book are because of my age and reading maturity.

4-0 out of 5 stars Educational and Fun!
Theses books are woderful! They're educational and fun! I realy enjoy readin the Doll Hospital series. I would recomend this book to girl and boys! Girls probably aren't the only ones who like to read Doll Hospitals books. I would like to know more about Rose, though.

Yatika C.

5-0 out of 5 stars out of print but worthwhile finding
This particular book is out of print; several secondary sellers offer it through Amazon and you should also be able to find it on eBay.There are many copies out there for less than list price; don't pay a out of print premium on this one.

All the Doll Hospital books are very good for young girls; younger more advanced readers will enjoy them and even as an adult I found myself reading them and wishing for more.

As other reviewers have written, there are two stories to these Doll Hospital books. On the surface there is the story of sisters Rose and Lila living with their quirky grandmother, adjusting to a new lifestyle. The grandmother has a doll repair business in her house; she has the ability to talk to the dolls and to retell their stories to Rose and Lila.Or is she just making it all up?That's up to the reader to decide.

Goldie's Fortune tells the story of a doll belonging to a little girl during the Depression who's family loses everything. There is a rather supernatural occurance in this story that to some will send shivers up the spine and to others may be too far-fetched.Sorry I can't elaborate more, that would be spoiling it.

5-0 out of 5 stars oy gevalt, it was such a pleasure already!
First of all, a warning. You really really need a smattering of Yiddish to understand the jokes in this book, and maybe a little more if you want to get all the in jokes and the names.Which are hilarious. All the yiddish words are italicized and some are explained in the next breath, so it isn't too bad.The stories parallel the traditional tales which adds to the fun.The puns and jokes and Jewish stereotypes are non-stop.Which brings me to the second warning, this book is NOT politically correct or totally clean. But boy is it funny.Short of the borsht belt you can't get this stuff anymore!I'm glad mine Yiddishe Mother and Father taught me enough to enjoy this book. ... Product Description
'I Choose Life' is the true, first person account of two Jewish youths, Sol and Goldie, who survived Nazi concentration camps and transcended despair by choosing life. The book title derives from a harrowing encounter between Sol and the Commandant in Auschwitz. The Nazi cruelly forced Sol to choose between execution by hanging or firing squad. Sol, then 19-years-old, defied him, declaring, 'If I have a choice, I choose life!' Goldie Cukier, a 13-year-old girl, and her older sister were rounded up in a random raid in their neighborhood. An SS guard gave Goldie' father the "choice" of freeing only one of his two daughters. Goldie volunteered to be taken so that her sister would be spared. It was the last she would ever see her family alive.

'I Choose Life' describes idyllic childhoods in Radom and Sosnowiec, Poland, in warm and loving families imbued with Jewish pride and values; years of darkness, suffering, separation, loss and death; raids, selections, forced labor camps, cattle cars, and death marches; and survival in Auschwitz, Mauthausen and Bergen-Belsen. Sol says, 'A sane person cannot imagine what it was like.'

I Choose Life is distinguished as a Holocaust testament, not only because it is two complete memoirs of a boy and a girl, but ultimately, because the two stories entwine as Sol and Goldie meet in a Displaced Persons camp in post-war Germany. The book explores the challenges of restoration and rebirth, how two youths regained the ability to trust and love, to rebuild new lives after unimaginable losses, and to move to another continent to start a new family and live the American dream. In one of the most peculiar and fascinating chapters of modern Jewish history, Sol and Goldie tell the story of how hundreds of Jewish concentration camp survivors from Europe found an unexpected new Zion in rural Vineland, Jersey, as a community of chicken farmers.

For years, Sol and Goldie never shared their stories, not even with each other. Now, they have decided to tell their stories, to leave a legacy to their grandchildren, and to help ensure the Holocaust is never repeated." ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Endure, Be Fruitful and Prosper
I couldn't put it down.Such a moving story, with a wonderful transformation - I was going to say ending, but the Finkelstein's recovery and continuation is ongoing and inspiring.

Getting the book written and published is a gift to all of us.

Congratulations!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Your Usual Hlolocaust Book
This book is an uplifting surprise for folk that think Holocaust memoirs are uniformlly depressing. The Finkelstein's along with Jerry Jennings have crafted a story of courage, fortitude, risk taking, strenth of family, and the ability to recognise and take opportunities that come your way, as well as the importance of chuptsa. For the Finkelsteins the stakes were liife and death. We can take many lessons frrom their story to help us cope and flourish in our own not so dangerous lives. I took many lessons from their story. Perhaps the best is that some times you have to get out of the line in which someone or yourself puts you iand get in the other line. For the Finklesteins this meant life. Please buy and read this book for the life's lessopns you will find in it.

5-0 out of 5 stars THis is a very impactful book!
This book is very readable, AND an important addition to twentieth century history. While we are all familiar with the Holocaust subject, this book personalizes it for three generations of two families. We both read it, and have decided that it should be a part of each of our four childrens' libraries! Not only does this book detail the lives of two families who lived this horror, but addresses how two people moved forward in their own lives, and raised a family in their own aftermath. A true message of strength, faith, and love.

5-0 out of 5 stars Goodness Triumphs Over Evil
Like many others,I have learned a great deal about the unimaginable horrors of the Holocaust. Reading "I Choose Life" had a different effect on me. I don't ever remember smiling or feeling hopeful at the end of those experiences. On the contrary, I have always felt anger and sadness.
The personalized accounts of Sol's and Goldie's journeys, coupled with the historical facts and pictures, made it all the easier to read and understand their story. Although their pain was palpable and their treatment inhumane, they were still able to "choose life" and all it had to offer, over hate...somehow knowing that hate would surely destroy them.

This story is so special because it's not only about survival, but also about the resiliance and triumph of the human spirit. Sol's and Goldie's abilities to see the positive and to care for others and each other, are an example to us all.
Looking at their smiling family pictures makes you smile too and feel hopeful that sometimes goodness really can triumph over evil.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, heart-wrenching and incredibly well-researched
I have read other Holocaust memoirs, but this one stands out because it is so full of life, so full of details and so incredibly well-researched.Every time the author mentions an event in the life of Sol or Goldie, a Nazi document is included which verifies that event . . . every one of which is horrifying.Sol and Goldie are true heroes for being willing to share their very personal stories with the rest of us.Many thanks to them and to Jerry Jennings for writing this incredible book! ...
