5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! We love the Big Fat Cow!
This book is fun and just perfect for beginning readers. It is simple, entertaining, easy to read and has goofy illustrations that appeal to young kids. The book is made up of many short silly stories with fun characters like a rock and roll mole, Klaus the mouse and the title character- Oh,no! Look out now! Here comes and exploding cow! This book has gotten some of my most reluctant readers to read, not only an entire book- but to read it over and over!I love it!

And in that very bad cupboard, there was a very bad shelf. And on that very bad shelf, there was a very bad box. And in that very bad box, there was a very bad book......AND THIS IS IT!!!

Review:
My younger male cousins put me onto Andy Griffiths, telling me his books are hilarious. Well, I'm an adult girl and I thought this was hilarious. It's full of all kinds of silly jokes and gross stuff that kids love, and I had a great time reading it. There is a lot of important and well written children's literature out there that is important for children to read to develop their understanding of the world and to assist with their moral and emotional development. But I also think it is no less important for children to develop the ability to be completely silly and irreverent. But don't be fooled - there is plenty of learning and language development to be had cleverly mixed in with jokes about poo.

And the illustrations perfectly match the words - the book would be incomplete without Terry Denton's drawings. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars No Photographs
I was disappointed to find that this Bio didn't contain one single 'photograph' of any kind (only crudely hand drawn illustrations). Also, the copy I purchased from another seller was advertised as being a 'Signed' copy. Unfortunately it wasn't Andy Griffith's signature, but that of the guy who wrote it. I mention this only to warn others who may be hoping for a bio that contains photos, and to also be cautious as to 'who' the person is that actually 'autographed' the book, if it's being sold as such.

5-0 out of 5 stars ANDY GRIFFITH A REAL GOOD MAN
ANDY GRIFFITH HAD A GREAT CAREER, AND HOW RARE IS A MAN THAT DOESNT SPEAK OF HIS CAREER.HE HAD 8 YEARS OF THE GRIFFITH SHOW, THEN 3 OF SALVAGE ON ABC, AND THEN MATLOCK FOR 9 YEARS. HE WAS ADEPT AT COMEDY AND DRAMA AND STANDUP.HIS YEARS AFTER GRIFFITH SHOW AND HEADMASTER HE DID SOME AMAZING ACTING PLAYING THE MEAN BAD GUY THE BEST BEING COWETA COUNTY.HE OVERCAME A CRIPPLING DISEASE AND EVEN WORKED THROUGH IT. YES HE HAD A TEMPER BUT WHO DOESNT WHEN THEY ARE DEALING WITH TOP SHOWS AND BUDGETS AND REWRITES.THE STORY TOLD MANY TIMES BY ANDY WAS THAT THE ACTRESS WHO PLAYED AUNT BEA JUST DID NOT LIKE GRIFFITH. HE TRIED AND TRIED BUT SHE DID NOT LIKE HIM FOR EIGHT YEARS.THE MAN WAS A TRUE MAN, GREAT ACTOR, PRODUCER AND WRITER.WHEN I WAS A KID I ALWAYS CLAIMED MAYBERRY, NC. AS MY HOME TOWN AND ANDY TAYLOR AS MY DAD. READ THIS BOOK ITS THE ONLY BOOK ON GRIFFITH AND ITS AMAZING.

3-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable, but missing the involvement of Andy himself
Given that Andy Griffith is a private person with seemingly little interest in talking about himself or his career, this book met my expectations. The author did what he could to gather information about Andy in spite of Andy's apparent unwillingness to participate in the creation of this biography. His absence is a handicap, certainly, as I'm sure he could lend some depth to the anecdotes and old interviews. I was pleased to see that the author made an effort to avoid making this book another Mayberry-themed puff piece, though, and was glad to be reading about Andy Griffith instead of Andy Taylor.

The reader should also be aware that The Andy Griffith Story was published prior to the end of Matlock, and before several other key events in Andy Griffith's life. Illustrations are rather disappointing hand-drawings because, I presume, photo rights could not be obtained. Though I did enjoy this book, I am still hoping for an authorized - or, at least, more authoritative - biography to complete the portrait of Andy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stuff About Andy I Never Knew ....
The test of any good bio is learning something new about the subject. Information about Andy Griffith isn't easy to come by, but in this instance, the author has succeeded in collecting quotes, facts, and events from private sources and turning it into a readable narrative that illuminates the subject while respecting the privacy of the man. I bought two copies: one for my mom as a gift, and one for me. If you have ANY interest in the life and career of Andy, you'll want to add your own copy to your library too.

4-0 out of 5 stars A nice biography of Andy Griffith's life!
I just finished reading the biography on Andy Griffith and as a fan of this man I was pleased to learn about how he got started in show biz and all the movies he was involved in post Andy Griffith Show. I was surprisedto hear about his temper but pleased to hear he is a thoughtful and caringman. If you want a biography that covers Mr. Griffith's whole career Iwould recommend you buy this book. ... Product Description
On the February 2, 1960, episode of The Danny Thomas Show, entertainer Danny Williams (Danny Thomas) is arrested for a traffic violation by a small-town sheriff named Andy Taylor, played by a good-natured Southern actor named Andy Griffith. Thus was born one of the most popular television shows of the 1960s—The Andy Griffith Show.

From the time it officially debuted in October 1960, The Andy Griffith Show was a perennial favorite on CBS, finishing its eight-year run as the top-rated show on television. It also produced some of the most remembered characters (Andy, Opie, Aunt Bee, and Barney Fife) of the era. Each of the show’s 249 episodes is fully detailed here, including air dates, cast and production personnel, guest stars, and a bevy of facts about that particular episode. The 1986 television movie Return to Mayberry is covered in detail. Brief biographies of the show’s major stars, producers, directors and writers are also provided. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
Bought this for my husband who can't get enough of The Andy Griffith Show.He watches it every day and he never gets tired of watching the same episodes over and over again. He has the entire DVD collection, and several books. Now he is happy to add this book to his collection as well.It is packed with a lot of information so he should learn even more stuff he didn't know before.Like someone else mentioned, the photos inside the book aren't the best quality, but my husband is more interested in the trivia and that sort of thing anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the best
If you are a REAL fan like I am you would love this book. So much info.

4-0 out of 5 stars Excellent addition to collection.
This book is a great starting point for any fan of The Andy Griffith Show. There is no single book that puts together everything that a fan would want, but this one is a must have.Coupled with other books that Amazon recommends on The Andy Griffith Show, Robinson's book is an excellent addtion to a collection.

4-0 out of 5 stars Pretty good, but no episode index!
Like another reviewer here at first glance I was disappointed after spending $35 on this...the printing looks second rate and the half-tone pictures are barely on the good side of awful...BUT...after looking through this quite a bit, it is very evident that a lot of time and research was put into it, and I think it's quite a nice book.

One glaring drawback is the lack of any kind of episode index or episode table of contents.I was looking for "The Pickle Story" and had to thumb through the entire book to find it.Hard to believe the authors would spend hours on the smallest details and not spend a little time to make a basic episode index.Took 1 star off for that.

Also, I do wish the episode guide had them in the order aired and not produced.Makes watching the DVDs and trying to find an episode a mess (further justifies 4 stars instead of five). But I do recommend it if you want detail. It has lots of detail and is very complete (except no episode index---argghhh!)

Includes info on rare pilot and the pilot for Mayberry RFD where Andy gets married and Barney is his best man.

5-0 out of 5 stars Just THE Best...
This book has everything you would need to know and most fans of this show NEED to know a lot! Buy one for you and another for a gift. Then check out the authors book about Mayberry RFD! Again very very good. You can tell the author loves the show and thats the kinda guy I want to read, because so do I!! ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Brutal
I agree with the first reviewer. This book is poorly put together. Some of the photo's look as if they were copied directly from an old grainy video. The questions asked during the cast interviews were a bit dumb, too.I bought this book new at the time it was released and ran across it while clearing out a spare room.I can't believe I kept it!I gave it two stars out of respect for the original cast (everyone before and including that wierdo George Lindsay) One more thing - the show became a drag after a few years because Andy was always pee'd off and agitated all the time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Andy Griffith Scrapbook review
This book collects interviews with the cast and critiques of the episodes into an easy to read format. There are many good pictures along with the personal rememberings of our favorite citizens of Mayberry.

3-0 out of 5 stars A+ for effort, but Aunt Bee insists on apple pie order
It's impossible not to admire the tremendous effort that went into collecting the mementoes for this book, but someone obviously took the term "scrapbook" too literally. The layout is surprisingly amateurish, with far too many blurry or grainy photos occupying two-page spreads and, at the opposite extreme, pages that are almost empty. The hodgepodge of memorabilia, clippings, magazine covers, movie posters, etc. (not only from TAGS, but also relating to the show's stars at various stages of their careers) is more wearying than diverting. It doesn't help that the entire book is in black and white, that the type is miniscule or that most of the photos are of reject quality.

This "scrapbook" does have one huge thing in its favor: enthralling interviews with stars Andy Griffith, Don Knotts, Ron Howard and many of the supporting players, some of whom are no longer with us. For diehards, the interviews alone might justify the purchase price.

To his credit, Lee Pfeiffer is enthusiastic and knowledgeable about his subject, as evidenced in his introduction and interesting episode critiques. It's not his fault that his publisher entrusted a chimpanzee to organize his hard work. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Simple Life
I did not think I would like this book when I started it. but as I got into it I found it to be very interesting. I loved the story about the twins and just how easy going life was back then it is a shame it is not still like that! this book will take you back to a very simple time when andy was growing up. you will learn a lot about Mt Airy. which is very very much like mayberry. any mayberry fan would like this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Mayberry, U.S.A.
Hardly anyone who has been exposed to television over the last forty years has not come in contact with the good people of Mayberry. Walk up to most people on the street and ask them to name three justices of the U.S. Supreme Court and you just might get a blank stare. Ask the same person to name three residents of Mayberry, North Carolina and very few people will have a problem. Andy, Barney, Opie, Aunt Bea, Otis, Goober and Floyd have become so much a part of American culture that to most of us they are just like family. Mayberry is as real to most people as Chicago or Los Angeles and almost everybody knows that you have to go to Mount Pilot to get Chinese food.

Mayberry of course is not a real place but is instead a product of Andy Griffith's mind. Griffith's mind was however heavily influenced by his hometown and Mount Airy, North Carolina has become to most people, the real Mayberry. Jewell Kutzer grew up in Mount Airy and is just a few years younger than Andy. This book therefore, depicts on a very personal level the Mount Airy that has become America's most famous small town.

Many of the stories that are related in this book had a very obvious influence on the happenings in Mayberry. One story involves a young man who went on a small crime spree that included throwing rocks through most of the windows at the school. The authorities kept catching the young man but he would escape from jail almost as quickly as they locked him up. It all sounds a lot like Earnest T. Bass to me. If you remember Barney's very off key rendition of, "Welcome Sweet Springtime" you will not be surprised to learn that this song was a favorite of Andy's grammar school music teacher. Over and over, as one reads this book, they will be reminded of some happening in Mayberry.

There are many stories in this book that do not relate to Mayberry at all but are personal reminiscences of the author. At first I felt like these stories should not have been included since I bought this book to learn about Mayberry. As I read however, I changed my mind for these stories add greatly to the reader's ability to relate to life in a small southern town. Thank you Mrs. Kutzer for giving us all the chance to feel like we grew up in Mayberry just like you and Andy.

4-0 out of 5 stars Home in Mayberry
I recently moved to Mount Airy, the fabled Mayberry, and wanted a resource to help me learn a little bit about the "lore" behind this community. This was an excellent resource and a fun read at that. For me, it helped bring to life not only the ties of my new hometown to the TV show, but also to learn a little bit of history about this community.

5-0 out of 5 stars Memories of Mayberry
My wife just purchased this book for me and it was very interesting, especially being in the first person from Jewell. Brings back so many memories from my wife's family. I will be sending it to my 92 year old mother-in-law to read and I know she will enjoy it. Thanks, Jewell, good talking with you.Bill Tarpley

5-0 out of 5 stars American Heartland Nostalgia
Thousands and thousands of us faithfully watched the television classic, The Andy Griffith Show and its sequel, Mayberry RFD. We followed Sheriff Taylor, Barney, Aunt Bea, and the rest through 249 episodes from 1960 through 1968.From 1968 through 1971, we were treated to 78 episodes of Mayberry RFD. Watching these shows today is a heartwarming nostalgic experience. Why, there's even an active The Andy Griffith Show Rerun Watchers Club!

Mayberry has its roots firmly and deeply planted in Mt. Airy, North Carolina, a small town nestled in the mountains between Winston-Salem and the Virginia state line. Andy Griffith is celebrated there, along with all the traditions of hometown America, during community festivals and other events.

Jewell Kutzer grew up in Mayberry, just a couple of years behind Andy Griffith. She shares many of the memories that inspired Griffith to create Mayberry and the character of the popular television show. In Memories of Mayberry, she shares her experiences growing up in this now-famous small town. It's a pleasant, comfortable book to read, like having a conversation with a friend. Mt. Airy was a microcosm of life in a changing country, in a changing world. Lives were interwoven with the lives of others in the community. People were real, they were caring neighbors, they led simpler lives in the 1940s and 1950s. This book takes the reader back to those uncomplicated times.

Did I say uncomplicated? Well, compared to today's complex lifestyles. But for Jewell, growing up in a small town, life brought one adventure after another. Her tales of yesteryear are referenced to episodes in The Andy Griffith Show that relate to the memories. Readers will gain a deeper appreciation of how Griffith made the show so real in the earlier days of television.

Want a trip back to our roots? To the values on which our country was built? Pick up a copy of Memories of Mayberry to open your mind and heart to our wonderful past, not just in Mt. Airy, but in hundreds of other small towns across the land. Definitely designed for readers over 40 (we were there), but offers valuable insights for younger readers, too. ... Read more

This only gets 3 stars because I want to get your attention:A little warning, This is the exact same book as "Just Wacky."My son loves these "Just..." books, so he wanted them all."Just Crazy" proved to be a little elusive, but I discovered why, it's the original version of what came out in the US as "Just Wacky"--same book, different title. However, I highly recommend them, especially to those who don't like to read because the books are filled with short, funny (and sometimes gross) stories with lots of cartoons and silly drawings in the margins.Just don't make the same mistake that I did, if you already have "Just Wacky" then don't buy "Just Crazy" (or vice versa)! ... A great holiday classic story for the whole family and it will move your soul.

5-0 out of 5 stars Andy's Guest
Andy Griffith created a small Christmas fable about a lonely man who is to have GOD to Christmas at his home. This tale touches the heart as well as the soul. On each page is a illustration reflection of Christmas.

Included in this package is a two cut CD. The first cut is Andy and a chorus singing "Go Telling on the Mountain". The second cut is Andy telling the story. It is a grandfatherly type narration

It is worth sharing on Christmas and all during the year
