Product Description
The esteem in which satyr drama was held in antiquity still arouses curiosity and controversy. Twelve new papers, generated in North America by a distinguished cast of scholars, explore questions central to the genre. How did satyr drama relate to comedy and tragedy; how closely was it tied to its tragic trilogy? How did the Athenians react to pro-satyric drama, such as the Alcestis? How far did satyr plays reflect contemporary political life? Fresh conclusions are adduced from the fragments, particularly those of Aeschylus, and there is special study of Euripides' Cyclops, not least for its possible reflection of the fifth-century sophists. ... Product Description
"The Beatles exist apart from myself. I am not really Beatle George. Beatle George is like a suit or shirt that I once wore on occasion, and until the end of my life, people may see that shirt and mistake it for me."–George Harrison [Newsweek, October 23,1995]

Of the four legendary Beatles, he is often referred to as “the Quiet One,” but behind this innocent-sounding moniker stands one of the towering giants of rock and roll. From the guitarist’s early days in working-class Liverpool, through years of super-stardom with the Fab Four, and onward into a life of spiritual devotion and bold musical invention, George Harrison: A Tribute takes you through nearly four decades of rock history in the Quiet Beatle’s own aptly chosen words. Joining him in these rare audio clips are fellow Beatles Paul McCartney, John Lennon, and Ringo Starr, longtime associate Alistair Taylor, and the Maharishi Mahesh Yogi, the venerable spiritual leader of the Transcendental Meditation movement that has so passionately captivated Harrison for most of his adult life.

“It doesn't matter if you're the greatest guitar player in the world. If you're not enlightened, forget it.”–George Harrison[Zen Guitar]

This remarkable tribute gives listeners a rare glimpse of George Harrison’s transformation from lovable pop star to seasoned solo musician, and illustrates how his rich spirituality propelled the artist to champion humanitarian causes and gave him the strength to face a bitter divorce, ill health, and a vicious assault. George Harrison: A Tribute celebrates the journey of the musician, film producer, activist, and survivor-- a journey which, like the traveler himself, is an extraordinary mix of the spiritual and the down-to-earth. It is a gripping, inspiring, and at times amusing portrait of one of popular music’s highest-soaring talents.

5-0 out of 5 stars A GREAT MAN TASTEFULLY REMEMBERED
I thought this was a very good overview of George Harrison's life and times. Giuliano wites and narrates beautifully and the many fine interviews with George are a real hoot. God Bless You George!

1-0 out of 5 stars Where's George?
He certainly is the "quiet beatle". Giuliano couldn't even find enough on George to fill a cassette. Instead we get an endlessly long press conference featuring John & Paul. George might have been there. Then another endless prattle from his discredited Yogi. This is not a tribute to anyone. It's a travesty. Giuliano is a parasite & should quit feeding off of dead Beatles who cannot defend themselves from his ilk.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Classic, I Will Never Stop Listening
Dear Geoffrey,

I would like to contact you by e-mail, but it sems to be impossible to find your address. So maybe this will get your attention.

This is the best audio have heard in a long time.I mean the only thing better than this is actually talking to George himself.

I just want to thank you for making me, a very hardcore Beatles fan, you make me appreciate what I grew up with.I mean, what our children is listening to now they won't remember when they are our age.Thank you again.

5-0 out of 5 stars At Last The Truth About Beatle George
Ever an engima, George Harrison was the heart and soul of the Beatles and Geoffrey Giuliano, in his usual frank, forthcoming and insightful way given us the George harrison we always felt was there but we could never quite grab hold of.The script and naration are first rate as is the rare montage of interviews with and about the legendary, mystical musician.A must for any even casually interested sixties pop music fan!A brilliant work! ... 4-0 out of 5 stars A very enoyable and informative read!
I've had this book for years, and enjoy it immensely. I love all the details given about some of the most common backyard birds. The pictures are great, although they are not in color. But this book shines in the written word. I highly recommend it. Especially for the beginning birder!
( I give it 4 stars because the pictures are not it color)

2-0 out of 5 stars Very disappointed
I planned to send this book to a friend in Australia, as we were exchanging books on the most favorite birds of our area. There were only about 12 species listed and only 12 color photographs.Granted there was a lot of information about their habitat, but there were many birds that I would deem more favorite than those listed. What about the red polls and juncos? And they photographed a female blue jay, rather than the more brilliant male.I'd take a pass on this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Brilliantly written for the curious average reader!!!!
For those who are NOT avid bird watchers but fascinated and curious about the feathered residents in one's backyard, this book is enjoyable and easy reading. It has identified every bird commonly found in the backyard, explains theirs habits and reasons for behavior.I didn't want to put thisbook down.It really gave me insight to my feathered friends in ourbackyard. What fun to understand what they do and why!!!!I had no ideathat one of my frequent birdhouse occupants builds "mock" nestsall around the backyard not only to stake his area but to let the femalechoose the one she prefers.Highly recommend this book for those who enjoysitting in their backyards, do gardening, listen to the birds sing, andwatch them as they dart around and nest in the Spring!!! ... 1-0 out of 5 stars $599.00???
This is a shameful disgrace!

$599??

Astrid and Klaus are loved and respected among Beatles fans for their key role in the development of the early Beatles.

But charging said fans this disgraceful price for a story that is, however insider, hardly new to most veteran fans, is unforgivable.

5-0 out of 5 stars Magical Beatle History Tour
This is the kind of thing Beatle fans, Harrison and McCartney fans in particular would love to own. Each Beatle has admitted that he cut his musical teeth performing in Hamburg Germany. It was in this training ground that the Fabs learned to come together as a band.

Beatle friends, Astrid Kirchherr and Klaus Voormann were viewed as part of an esoteric intellectual group called "Exis" (for existentialists.)In 1960, they were students who befriended the Beatles and watched them develop musically in the rough German venues where they played. As post WWII young adults, they rebelled against traditional order and found that rebellious experience in the Beatles.

Astrid later married Stu Sutcliff, who died from a brain hemorrhage in 1962.She took the first publicity pictures of the future Fabs; gave them their famous fringed Beatle coiffure; Klaus, an artist drew pictures of the boys throughout their career including the wonderful 1966 "Revolver" album cover. They are important parts of Beatle history.

This is a 2-volume treasure chest and Beatle pirates will love it.Volume 1 provides an overview of Germany and German history in the aftermath of WWII; the pictures are nothing short of spectacular. The times were the ideal breeding grounds for rebellion and dissension to flourish; the Beatles, with their different, distinctive sounds and the dues they were willing to pay to move forward musically is well chronicled in this book.

Klaus Voorman provided much of the text, but Beatles George Harrison and Paul McCartney contributed as well. That makes a good thing even better.

Volume 2 is power packed with Klaus Voorman's Beatle drawings.A talented artist, Voorman has created the cover for the Beatles' "Anthology" album as well as the famous 1966 "Revolver" cover. I had the pleasure of reading this at the 2002 and 2003 Fests for Beatle Fans in Chicago and the 2002 Fest in Boston.Sadly, this book is prohibitively expensive and to date, I do not own it for this reason.

What makes this book so special and distinct is that it is the work of those who were there from the inception of the Beatles to their meteoric rise to fame.My two favorite Beatles (the Messrs. Harrison & McCartney) have added their voices to it as well, which makes this book even more desirable.

Still, this is a serious book that should be affordable to all who really want it.The high price tag has made it an unreachable brass ring to many fans who would really love to have it.This book covers an era beautifully and portrays a time when the Beatles and their then new musical style would flourish.

3-0 out of 5 stars throw me a friggin bone here
250.00 bucks!?!? get real, IT IS DEFINATELY something beatles fans would want, but do they think were millionaires? Or is this only for the privlidged few? I think Lennon would have a problem with this, the people who would like to read it the most are the ones who wont be able to, while the ones who are able to are the people who would have steered clear of Hamburg- Beatles & all, because they would have been afraid if they entered the reepherbahn they would have been mugged, & theyed have been right, & it COULD have been John Lennon with his "crimey" Pete Best who might have done the mugging in those days, It was one of their favorite pastimes.

5-0 out of 5 stars The ultimate Beatle-freak book
The Beatles have said much about Hamburg, including that they believed that it was there that they did their best performances, and it was there that they really learned how to be a band.

Astrid Kirchherr and Klaus Voormann were kids growing up in Germany, whose early memories included all the chaos that Germany went through in the last days of the Third Reich and the aftermath of the war.As college students, they rebelled against the old order, and came upon a band that seemed to bring with it something entirely new - The Beatles.

They all became friends, so much so that Astrid got engaged to Stu Sutcliffe and took the first professional photos of the band, and Klaus would later design the covers for the Beatles' albums "Revolver" and "Anthology" as well as play bass on albums of Ringo, George, and John, after the Beatles' breakup.

This two-volume set is absolutely gorgeous. The first volume, besides photographs and documents, goes into the story of what kind of state Germany was in after the war, and why it was that the Beatles' type of music attracted many young people to it, as well as telling how the band came to get there, and what kind of conditions these very young men were willing to put up with in order to pursue their passion of music. Most of the text is by Voormann, but George Harrison and Paul McCartney also wrote short pieces to go into this book.

The second volume is a collection of art pertaining to the Beatles done by Voormann.I saw Voormann and some of these pictures at Beatlefest 2001 in Chicago, and these are interesting too, as something that belongs in part of this collection.

The main problem with this book is that it is a prohibitively expensive limited edition. However, it is a perspective of the era and the Beatles that is carefully done by people who have known the Beatles since this time, and were qualified in putting a project like this together. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars excellent reference to those that are new to birding
If you are new to birding and need clear concise pictures of common birds to identify the winged creatures in your yard, this book is an excellent reference. Mr. Harrison shows the reader by range(Canada, US, and Mexico) where they breed, live both year-round and in the winter. This is useful to me because I live in the south and only see some wildlife for brief times during the year.

He lists by a separate table who will be your frequent feeders and what they prefer to eat.He gives you a guide of food and cover plants by US region.Touching briefly on the importance of water, birdbaths and birdhouses, he'll educate the reader on how to attract and keep your feathered friends longer.

If you don't want to read the entire book but just want to know about a few birds that you currently have, his information by name (Ex. Pine Sisken) gives you basic details you need to know plus what attracts them to your yard.

The down-side to this interesting book is I have to have another reference close by so I can identify females (many look different then males) and what both sexes might look like in winter when they visit my neck of the woods. Some lose or change their color. Also, there are only so many pages so some birds are not listed.Still I love the pictures and basic knowledge and would encourage anyone knew to this hobby to look for this book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Gorgeous full-color photos of your favorite backyard birds
Most birding handbooks are written as a reference guide. This one is different. In addition to the full-color, full-page photos of dozens of your favorite backyard birds, George Harrison has written a narative on the facing page of his personal observations and encounters with these delightful songsters. This is a book for READING, not just for referencing. It is a treat for the eye and the mind!

4-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful photography
I've been hunting for a book about common backyard birds which had big, clear pictures, to make it easier for my young kids (5, 3 and 1.5 years) to see the distinguishing characteristics of each bird. The photographs inthis book are beautiful! The colors are crisp, details are vivid. Many ofthe scenes are breathtaking -- birds in flight, feeding their young.Thepictures are also large, each occupies an entire page.

Of course,Harrison includes information on the birds -- descriptions, what they eat, their habitats, how to attract them, etc.The info is at par with theother bird books. The photos make the difference.I highly recommend thisfor both beginner bird watchers (like my family), and for bird lovers. ... Product Description
The Little Book of Birding encapsulates our fascinationand relationship with wild birds. This book is an exploration into theworld of birds from the watchers' point of view. The Little Book ofBirding invites us to further explore and actively participate intheir cycle of life. Renowned author, photographer and bird-watchingenthusiast George Harrison provides more than a glimpse into theunpredictable and often humorous avian world. Experienced birdwatchers will recognize with delight the insight he imparts with hiscolorful narrative. They will also recognize themselves - albeit withsome embarrassment - in many of the humorous photographs, which showto what lengths some people will go in their obsession withbirds. Together, text and photographs combine to create the perfectportrait of how our lives are enriched daily by the presence of wildbirds.Amazon.com Review
Like the Little Book ofFlyfishing, The Little Book of Birding is a finecomplement to a very small coffee table. While there are fewbirdwatching tips--in fact, sparse text at all--the color photos areoften memorable (to birders, at least) and the overall tone is asamiable as can be. Inside, you'll find funny-looking screech owls, apair of bright cardinals in a snowstorm, a catbird taking a bath--notto mention the birdwatchers, bundled up in winter, studying theirfield guides, straining upward to catch a glimpse of tree-topwarblers. ...
