A very basic introduction to osteopathic medical education
This book contains very basic information and I would only recommend it to those who want to understand the essential structure of osteopathic medical education. It contains a lot of commonsense information that can be found online for free. I only rated it three stars because I didn't find it as helpful as I had hoped. It didn't provide any information that I didn't already know. I don't recommend it to someone who already has a basic knowledge of osteopathy and wants to gain more in-depth knowledge. For those individuals I strongly recommend The DOs: Osteopathic Medicine in America, by Norman Gevitz.

Good guide for the aspiring PA
This book really pointed out the different fields in the PA spectrum. It's a great guide that breaks down the vast opportunities in the field. It's an easy read with no complicated language. User friendly.

Not what I expected...
I mainly got this book for the salary statistics, which totaled about two sentences in the book.You can find more, better, and less-dated information for free on the internet.

Only buy this book if you know nothing about PAs
This book is filled with insanely obvious "insights" such as
--consider commuting to school rather than living on campus to save money and
--talk with practicing physician assistants to learn more.

Don't waste your money unless you need the obvious drawn out in torturous detail.

rudimentary overview
This is a short, simple overview of the PA profession that is worth the used book price.It reads more like a long magazine article than a book, for some reason.Anyone needing a nice quick introduction to the job will be satisfied with this book, although it's out of date.The many people interviewed seem to all be from Chicago, which is unusual, and also most got their education several years ago when there were literally dozens of different ways to become a PA.Modern day applicants will find many of the loosey-goosey programs of the past are now traditional masters programs just like any other.The old "I worked with a doctor for a few years and they let me sit for the boards" type of story is history, nothing more.Most of the content is just published questionnaires and personal short essays from respondents, without commentary or context by the author who seems to have no real personal knowledge of the profession.He might as well have been writing about the history of the bicycle or how air conditioning has changed our lives.But if you are just starting out and need a quick look at the job, this isn't a bad place to start.

Could Have Been More Helpful... Boring
I was looking for a book that would give me detailed information on the the field of nursing and what it has to offer, especially those looking for a second career. The book did meet that requirement at the bare minimal level. A book on entry level nursing should excite the reader and entice him or her to enter this fascinating field, giving the reader some information on what to expect in Nursing. This book was very dry and seemed to be written on an elementary level. Although there were a few cartoons trying to provide some comic relief, they really weren't appropriate to the subject matter. Much of the areas in the appendix seemed redundant, and took up too much space. The chapter on various profiles of nurses in the book didn't give an idea of the vast spectrum of Nursing, rather it gave several reviews on the same basic profile and seemed to limit itself to one area of the country (the Chicago area).
If you are in high school looking for some basic information on nursing, this is a book to get you started, but please know that there are better books out there to give you a broader view on what encompasses the life of a nursing student and what to expect. Here's a better book I've finished reading: "How to Survive and Even Love Nursing School." This provides more information on what to expect in the field of nursing. ... Read more

Not worth it.
This book is actually out-of-print.I waited months to recieve it only to find out the *true* reason it went out-of-print in the first place: it is terribly written.The formatting of the chapters makes reading thehistories very confusing because you cannot tell when one idea stops andanother starts.I thought this would be an interesting journey throughhaunted spots in England, but it is not interesting...it gave me aheadache.The index is well compiled, but other than that...it's not worthit. ...
