one heck of an overview... with much detailed information
this book, is all about the facts... and it tells them in a story-book fashion... plenty of photographs and illustrations... not just summaries on the famous gunfighters, but page after page on each one... huge index, with just about every gunfighter you've ever heard of, and many that you haven't...

If I was writing this review back in the 50's when the book was first published, I would have to give it a 5-star rating... but since it is 2005, taken the amount of resources now available though the internet, printing & photocopy technology, and the ease of travel; modern day author's could (but haven't) have done a little better job putting such a complete reference book together. Once Upon A Time, When Journalists Were Heroes
A very realistic story about how unchallenged Political Power can corrupt in a democracy. This story published in 1965 was definitely prophetic of the power keg of civil unrest and political corruption throughout major cities in the United States at that time.The main character in the book, a feisty battle-tested newspaperman, leads you down dark corridors of New York City's numbers (Policy) racket only to emerge with stories of corruption that point toward police departments, civic leaders, big businessman and possibly the state capitol (Albany) and Washington, D.C..

As I read this book I couldn't help but think that this is actually how the world of politics is played and the true mobsters in this country are CEO's, Highly Elected Officials and Judiciary Magistrates.Even our hero newspaperman must frustratingly accept the fact that the grapevine of power greedily branches out to strangle the poor and powerless of a city. Mr. Horan, a journalist himself, did an excellent job of chronicling not only the inner workings of major newspapers but the obligation of journalism to keep the reading public abreast of the happenings in their communities.Unfortunately, today's Seat of Power has a firm grip on the news media and many of those journalists that were once heroes to their communities have either given up the fight or been swallowed up by the conglomerate monsters that print for profit only.

This is a great book if you want to do a quick and really easy business plan.

Great Starter Plan
I have been operating a small business for 5 years. While I have enjoyed success I knew I needed to refocus and redouble my efforts in order to take my business to the next level. This book is down to earth and very thought provoking. I have already begun to implement some changes in my business and am very pleased with the results. I no longer feel like I am just "winging it". I know I will be using this book annually to stay on track.

Loved this business plan
I really liked this book. It was recommended to me by my virtual assistant. I was dreading doing a business plan because they looked so complicated and boring. But this book is very simple and easy to use. The CD helps you to answer all the questions about the business that you have in your head but need to get on paper. Once I got started, I realized that I had a lot of ideas for my business and that I didn't have to do them all at once. I would definitely recommend this book to any entrepreneur who is not very analytical and who does not enjoy the tedium of a typical business plan. This is THE book for the more creative types who need to get plans on paper but don't wantto do itthe traditional way.

A multimillion dollar tool
This book makes writing a business plan so easy.The way of business today shows that the one-page plan is the best tool for putting your ideas out there.I haven't work with all of the tools, but what I've work with was enough to land a few angel investors.This could easily be the first tool to start your way towards working for yourself.
While I haven't used anything, what I've found the software lacking is an org chart to show investors who you plan to structure the company, a tool to prepare a statement of incorporation, and a Gantt chart program to lay out the timeline for all that goes into starting up a business.Unless you have that 1% of businesses that can start the second you turn on the lights for the first time, it's irrelevent.For the remaining 99% of us, we need something like this.

Must have if you want the TRUTH on the Old West.
Few books on the "Wild West" go into as much detail on specific characters as these sets of books do ( there are two others:the Lawmen and the Outlaws). This book is filled with accounts by eyewitnesses and the Gunfighters themselves. Although sometimes I find these books 'dry', they are incredible references. Filled with newspaper reports of the day, excerpts from courtroom documents and plenty of asides from the gunfighters themselves as well as the people who knew them ( parents, friends, enemies and lovers ), they are lavishly illustrated, well documented and completely annotated with sources AND bibliography of about every quote in the book. This enables you to understand where EVERY source comes from. One of the most complete references that I have ever seen on the subject.
