Incomplete
No mention of ME (CFS) a very common and extremely disabling disease incorporating cardiomyopathy.Running treadmill tests on ME patients is very detrimental to them as post exertional malaise is a hallmark of the disease.Cardiologist should be aware of the exercise contraindication.
Also ME patients have reduced ejection, low blood volume, orthostatic intolerance, and increased cardiac disease mortality. When ME patients die of heart disease, it is, on average, at an age 25 years younger than that of the whole population of people who die of heart disease.

Great purchase
It is a great book; great for medschool cardiology class. Contains all the pertinent information on cardiac pathology.

Cursory info at best
I am a Nurse Practitioner seeking a one-stop, all-inclusive cardiology resource. This is not it. In fact, there is more indepth info in the cardiology sections of my Internal Medicine books. Harrison's, especially, but also Current Medical Diagnosis and Treatment from the same publisher offer more substance. My apologies to the editor and contributors, I am sure you are fine cardiology professionals, but the book doesn't quite cut it.

out of date
Well, although the title of this book contains the word "current" the latest study quoted on stents dates back to 1998. Thus, this "current treatment" book misses full five years of stent development and progress. Also, I have not found any quoted study from the years 2001 and 2002. How can this book pretend to review current diagnostic and treatment strategies (the copyright of this book is from 2003)?

Rywkin's treatment of Central Asian minorities in the Soviet Union is a bit dated, but is not without its value.First, the very fact that the book discusses "the Soviet Union" did much to jade my opinion of the book.However, upon a closer reading, the strengths of the text become apparent.
While Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan, and Turkmenistan are all independent nations, the issues and problems this region faced (and continues to face) are discussed - the role if Islam versus secularism, the influence of "radical Islam", women's issues, natural resources - all still are vital to an understanding of the region and its geopolitical importance today.

While much has changed in the region since the books first publication, much of the author's analysis and conclusions still have relevance to the contemporary reader. ... Read more

Australian-born and Oxford-trained, he spent 20 years - the entirety of his working career - as Government Anthropologist in the Australian Territory of Papua, then ruled by the "benignly paternalistic" proconsul Sir Hubert Murray. One of the aims of this volume is to document, through Williams's photographs and, wherever possible, through his words, the sheer variety of his ethnographic discoveries and fieldwork experiences. Some 235 images have been selected. An introductory essay provides the biographical, historical and anthropological contexts of Williams's ethnographic and photographic achievement. These are important for a proper appreciation of his work: notably, the colonial milieu of Papua in the 1920s and 1930s; Williams's dealings with Murray (with whom he did not always see eye-to-eye); and his relationship with academic mentors such as Malinowski and R.R. Marett. Williams's commitment to applied anthropology partly eclipsed his scholarly achievements. His career was coterminous with the reign of functionalism in British social anthropology.This is a good part of his historical significance, because he was in a unique position to fulfil some of the prescriptions of Malinowski's revolution concerning intensive (and extended) fieldwork and "practical" anthropology.
