4-0 out of 5 stars Good Doctor's story written in the eary 1900s
My grandma introduced this book to me and I have since collected all the "Red Pepper" books. Red Pepper Burns is a doctor with red hair and a temper to match it, but he has a big heart. He drives at top speeds in this car the "green imp." He provides amusement and aid to his neighbors who live on either side of his house. He never comes to their dinner parties on time because his is "always on a case." He is well-loved by his friends and neighbors. He meets a widow who is living with his neighbors and proceeds to court her is a regular "Burnsy" fashion. ... Read more

Excerpt: John Milo "Mike" Ford (April 10, 1957 September 25, 2006) was an American science fiction and fantasy writer, game designer, and poet. Ford was regarded (and obituaries, tributes and memories describe him) as an extraordinarily intelligent, erudite and witty man. He was a popular contributor to several online discussions. He composed poems, often improvised, in both complicated forms and blank verse, notably Shakespearean pastiche; he also wrote pastiches and parodies of many other authors and styles. At Minicon and other science fiction conventions he would perform "Ask Dr. Mike", giving humorous answers to scientific and other questions in a lab coat before a whiteboard. Ford was born in East Chicago, Indiana, and raised in Whiting, Indiana. In the mid-1970s he attended Indiana University Bloomington, where he was active in the IU science fiction club and Society for Creative Anachronism (using the name Miles Atherton de Grey); while there, he published his first short story "This, Too, We Reconcile" in the May 1976 Analog. Ford left IU and moved to New York to work on the newly-founded Isaac Asimov's Science Fiction Magazine, where, starting in mid-1978, he published poetry, fiction, articles, and game reviews. Although his last non-fiction appeared there in September 1981, he was tenth most frequent contributor for the 19772002 period. About 1990, he moved to Minneapolis. In addition to writing, he worked at various times as a hospital orderly, computer consultant, slush pile reader, and copy editor. Ford suffered from complications related to diabetes since childhood and also had renal dysfunction which required dialysis and, in 2000, a kidney transplant, which improved his quality of life considerably. He was found dead... More: http://booksllc.net/?id=280739 ... Read more

Product Description
High Quality Content by WIKIPEDIA articles! The basis of the Piedmont style began with the older "frailing" or "framming" guitar styles that may have been universal throughout the South, and was also based, at least to some extent, on formal "parlor guitar" techniques as well as earlier banjo playing, string band, and ragtime. Varieties of the older styles can be heard in players such as Peg Leg Howell and the Hicks brothers from Georgia, as well as in various musicians from other areas, including Mississippi John Hurt, Frank Stokes (from Memphis), and Mance Lipscomb (from Texas)--but if one is going to group musicians into regional styles, these clearly cannot be classed as Piedmont players. What was particular to the Piedmont was that a generation of players adapted these older, ragtime-based techniques to blues in a singular and popular fashion, influenced by such guitar virtuosi on records as Blind Blake and Gary Davis (as well as less-recorded masters like Willie Walker). ... Product Description
This second volume in Modern Methods of Plant Analysis, New Series concentrates on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) spectroscopy, a powerful technique that is now being used for plant studies in a major way. This is the first time that a series of chapters by leading experts on the application of NMR to plant cells has been assembled in a single volume. The methods are described in detail so that even beginners can apply them directly in the laboratory. Topics include general metabolism in higher plants and fungi, intercellular pH, energy status, DNA structure analysis, multiple quantum two-dimensional NMR spectroscopy, chloroplast orientation, rubber analysis, and the use of NMR to determine pollen viability. This volume should provide not only an excellent practical guide to the possibilities of NMR application to the plant sciences, but also give impetus to its future use. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Product Description
This volume compiles gas chromatographic and mass spectrometric methods for the analysis of plant material that until now were only to be found widely scattered in specialist journals. Experts have contributed chapters on such topics as plant hormones, essential oils, terpenoids, phospholipids, volatile flavour components, polysaccharides, and cyclic nucleotides. By bringing together GC/MS analyses on different classes of plant compounds, the authors make it possible for researchers working with plant cells, particularly plant physiologists, to better appreciate the advantages and limitations of this technique. ...
