"We hope this audiobook will be enjoyed by people of all ages across the globe, increasing awareness of Africa's rich cultures while creating a better future for South Africa's most vulnerable children," said ANSA Executive Director Sharon Gelman.

In his original foreword for the folktales, Nelson Mandela wrote, "It is my wish that the voice of the storyteller may never die in Africa, that all the children of the world may experience the wonder of books." The audiobook brings his vision full circle, as these timeless tales return to the oral tradition to be heard around the world.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Collection to Treasure
A wonderful collection of stories told in a rich assortment of familiar and unfamiliar voices, beautifully put together. This is an audio book to treasure.

5-0 out of 5 stars Stories are good!
Stories are always a good thing. Diversity too. Hearing tales from other lands helps us to learn more about each other. I shared this set with my niece and two nephews ages 5 to 8 yrs old. They loved it too. Truthfully, the real reason why I made this purchase is because of Alan Rickman. He's one of my favorite actors/voices. I could find only one story read by him, but it was well worth it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Stories for a Great Cause
I was moved by the fund raising effort support for HIV AIDS orphans in South Africa, familiar and admiring of the story collection released some years ago, I was delighted to listen through the entire collection. The blend of music and voice, brilliantly realized by a host of talented talents "Artists for a New South Africa", brings these stories alive!Libraries (like mine) and individuals will appreciate each and every track in this 3 CD set that is up for Grammy nomination.

5-0 out of 5 stars Rating the CDs
We've given the audio book and the book as gifts to a number of people, and they've raved about it. I haven't heard every one of the readings but the ones I've listened to are superbly done.Artists for a New South Africa (ANSA), which produced the three CD audio book, assembled a distinguished cast that included (among many others)Desmond Tutu, Morgan Freeman, Helen Mirren, Samuel Jackson, Alan Rickman, Charlize Theron and Don Cheadle-- and had music composed and played by one of South Africa's leading musicians and sung by South Africa's best-known singer. The tales are collected from all over Africa, and they will interest adults as well as children. It's a wonderful present for Christmas or Hannukah or for a child's birthday. And, Hachette, the producer is giving the proceeds to ANSA and Nelson Mandela's Children's Fund which will use the money mainly to help AIDS orphans.

4-0 out of 5 stars An all-star narration cast...
An all-star narration cast helps bring to life Nobel Peace laureate Nelson Mandela's collection of short stories that create a patchwork of legends drawn from all over the African continent, In one story, the children of an East African village must destroy a beautiful and enchanting bird that has brought bad luck to the surrounding countryside. In one story, a brave girl frees a prince from the spell that made him a python. From [...] ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Shining the Light on One State's Highly Flawed Constitution
State constitutions don't get the attention they deserve. They are important historical documents, and they have considerable influence on state and local government. Alabama's constitution is, according to the scholars and journalists who know it well, one of the longest (more than 315,000 words) and worst. In recent years, a grassroots movement for a new constitution has spread across the state. So the timing is right for a rigorous look at the history and practical consequences of the current document. "A Century of Controversy" serves as a terrific primer for understanding how this constitution came to be, how it has survived for more than 100 years and how it continues to impede home rule and good governance generally. Along with furthering debate about constitutional reform in Alabama, this book should inspire students of other state constitutions to take up their pens. ... Read more

Product Description
Twenty Godly Men and Women WhoIn this book twenty Godly men and women who experienced failure tell their story!

Has anyone told you the price of success?

It is failure!

Failure - who wants to talk about it? No one. In our success driven environment, we seldom realize that success is a process - a processthat journeys right through the heart of failure.

All success is born out of the pangs of failure. And that bring existential issues to the surface:
"Who really loves me for me, and not for what I can do for them?"
"Is there someone who knows me, with whom I'm totally transparent?"
"If I missed a church service, would anyone notice and call me?"
Failure: The Womb of Success is refreshing. It drips with honest confessions and condor.
So, put down your guard, relax, and enjoy a most candid journeythrough this exploration of our humanity. The purpose of this book is to encourage you to stay in the race and not give up.
You may fail, but you are not a failure. Events do not define you.

Failure is not final; it's only an event! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars encouraging.funny too.
I met Samuel Chand after he spoke at a conference in Los Angeles, and bought his book right off the table. My wife and I had been struggling to plant a church in South Central Los Angeles, and at the time were stinging from several painful setbacks... could we have done anything to avert those disasters?20-20 hindsight always accuses "Yes!".Chand's book helped us deal with our failure, pick up the pieces (those available to pick up at least) and continue on.Best thing about this book: it is not mere cheerleading or positive-thinking, but honest, bold approach to understanding and redeeming failure so that "all things [really do] work for the good of those who are called according to His purpose".Don't read it when things are going well.Read it when you are angry, despairing, or ready to give up.

5-0 out of 5 stars No One Wants to Talk About It!
The Story Behind the Book

It was the first Monday in August 1985. Mondays can either be real good or real bad for pastors depending on the day before Monday-Sunday! Sunday is the day the self-worth and even thecalling of the pastor are tested to its limits. An experienced pastor hascounseled wisely, "Never resign on a Monday!" On this particularMonday, I walked up to a few pastor friends who were gathered in theparking lot of the Conference center. The annual denominational conferencewas about to begin. The typical Monday morning pastor's conversation was infull bloom. "So, how many did you have in church yesterday?" was theoperating question. Now, we all know that that question is usuallyasked by pastors who had a "good" Sunday, and this is the way they can letothers know how well they did. Actually, it is a very self-servingquestion. It is not about the questioned; it is about the questioner! The respondent, who usually had a "bad" Sunday responds by shuffling hisfeet, clearing his throat, and saying something like, "We've had a lot ofsickness in our area and seems like so many people were out on vacation. .." This one-upmanship in the parking lot that Monday morning got thebest of me. So, as a junior member of the clergy, I timidly asked, "Do anyof you have low Sundays? Do you ever get discouraged? Do you ever feel likegiving up? Do you ever wonder if it's worth it?" As soon as the words leftmy mouth, I knew I had said the wrong thing! Why deal with reality whendenial serves us so well? The book in your hands was born on that Mondaymorning in that parking lot. The accounts in the book finally answer thequestions that were asked in the parking lot and remind us that failure isthe womb of success. As you read this book, you will laugh and you willweep. You will shake your head in agreement as well as amazement. Failure is not a popular subject. Go to your nearest bookstore and look forthe shelf marked FAILURE; that shelf does not exist! Everyone wants to talkabout success (it sells), but we all know we fail at more things than wesucceed at. So let's talk about it! This book will get you started.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice overview of the Old Testament
This is a very handy volume, part of an equally valuable series. This one is volume 3 and first of two volumes covering the Old Testament (OT).It isn't an in-depth analysis or verse-by-verse commentary on the OT, but a light weight overview of each volume in the first part of the OT, per the order of book in KJV. It is edited by Kent Jackson and Robert Millet and includes 20 articles by various LDS scholars and General Authorities.

The articles are well written and discuss basic issue with respect to the OT.They range from the approaches to study of Pentateuch, the documentary hypothesis to the lives of the patriarchs, exodus, the law of Moses, lessons learned in the wilderness, conquest, judges and on through 2 Samuel. While the articles aren't in-depth they are most helpful as introductory material for those who're getting acquainted with the OT , but they can also serve as a nice reference for those more familiar with it.I would recommend this volume (and any of the volumes in the series) to anyone interested in the scriptures.

Product Description
"Adventures of Huckleberry Finn (often shortened to Huck Finn) is a novel written by Mark Twain and published in 1884. It is commonly regarded as one of the Great American Novels, and is one of the first major American novels written in the vernacular, characterized by local color regionalism. It is told in the first person by Huckleberry "Huck" Finn, best friend of Tom Sawyer and narrator of two other Twain novels.

The book is noted for its colorful description of people and places along the Mississippi River. By satirizing a Southern antebellum society that was already anachronistic at the time, the book is an often scathing look at entrenched attitudes, particularly racism. The drifting journey of Huck and his friend Jim, a runaway slave, down the Mississippi River on their raft may be one of the most enduring images of escape and freedom in all of American literature.

The book has been popular with young readers since its publication and is taken as a sequel to The Adventures of Tom Sawyer. It has also been the continued object of study by serious literary critics. The book was criticized upon release because of its coarse language, and became even more controversial in the 20th century because of its perceived use of racial stereotypes and because of its frequent use of the racial slur, "nigger."
