Excellent Study Companion to Romans
I know the author personally, but have never taken his class on Romans while in Bible School. I read this book a bit each day, after reading a passage from the Book of Romans. What a wonderful help! Paul Johansson shares many unforgettable nuggets of insight and wisdom, for instance, "As a woman cannot be half pregnant, so a believer cannot be half justified." The illustrations he relates from his own life vividly bring the truth to life. His teaching approach, from the legal world of courtroom, judge, and lawyer, makes the Book of Romans understandable and easy to apply to one's life. I've been a Christian 43 years, and never have I understood forgiveness, righteousness, and justification as well as I do after reading this book. Every student of the Bible should read it! ... Excerpt: Paul Malone Gardner (born March 5, 1956 in Fort Erie, Ontario) is a retired Canadian ice hockey centre. He is the son of former NHL player Cal Gardner and younger brother of Dave Gardner. Drafted in 1976 by both the Kansas City Scouts of the National Hockey League and Toronto Toros of the World Hockey Association, Gardner followed the Scouts franchise when it relocated to Colorado, where he played for parts of three seasons. He would also play for the Toronto Maple Leafs, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals, and Buffalo Sabres. Gardner was an effective presence in front of the net, and was a skilled scorer. He lead the American Hockey league in scoring twice (1985 and 1986). A popular player, his limited skating skills curtailed a promising career. Shortly after his playing career ended, Gardner jumped in to the coaching profession, becoming head coach of the Newmarket Saints of the American Hockey League for four seasons.
