3-0 out of 5 stars Okay to read if you are amateur to Jolie's life
I have been an Angelina Jolie fan since she was pregnant with Shiloh. It hasn't been too long but I already heard most about the things that were in the biography from a single, but thorough fansite of Angelina's, [...].

Brandon Hurst DID give good information on Angelina's childhood, which many people, including fans, don't know about but want to know; such as the rumors and exaggerations of Angie's very young love life. The whole "first chapter" in the book strictly covered Angelina's parents' life from before, during, and after Angie's birth, including what really went on about her father cheating on Marcheline, Angie's mother.

Most of the rest of the book mostly told you what tabloids tell you. If you are buying this biography to know what went on "behind the scenes" of the Jennifer-Brad-Angelina ordeal, don't expect to find out anything new because no one except Angelina and Brad knows what really happend so the author could only tell you as much as the rest of the world knows. But if you don't know much about Angelina, her childhood, her parents, early acting career, and beyond, this touches major points in her life that is good for the unknowledged fan of Angelina Jolie.

3-0 out of 5 stars A decent bio but borrows too much from tabloids
I give this biography three stars b/c it allows the reader to read a bit more about Angelina's childhood that is not prev. known. The author goes out of his way to make it clear to the reader that the image and the woman are two different things. To get people to go beyond the shocking headlines and judgement.

However, a great deal of this book is simply a rehash of tabloid articles. The author tries to be fair to Jolie, and is for the most part, but there is no real stucture to it, it has way too many borrowed quotes from tabloids that make up a great deal. There are some phrases and discriptions of both Angelina Jolie and Brad Pitt towards the end that are rather crude and unfair. Perhaps I'm being too hard on this book but frankly I was expecting better. I purchased this book because I'm a fan of Angelina Jolie so I already know alot about her. I was hoping to get a less tabloid point of view about her life and career. Like I said it takes so much from British rags that it's hard to know what is real and what is actually from Ms. Jolie.

Product Description
After Islamic extremists murdered her husband, Wall Street Journal reporter Danny Pearl, in 2002, Mariane Pearl wondered how to teach their son, Adam, to embrace the world without fear. Could she show him that hope is stronger than hatred? In 2006, Pearl embarked on a round-the-globe journey in search of proof that it is. Every month for Glamour magazine, Pear crosses the continents to meet brave, determined women—the true agents of change in every community—who make the world more just, peaceful, and loving despite personal hardship, discouraging odds, and even death threats. In In Search of Hope, she introduces readers to the everyday heroes she’s met in the first year of her journey, and offers never-before-seen photographs from her travels. We meet Somaly Mam, a former child sex slave in Cambodia who now rescues young girls from forced prostitution; Liberian president Ellen Johnson Sirleaf, the first woman ever to be elected head of an African country; Lydia Cacho, an intrepid Mexican reporter who exposes violence against women and children despite repeated threats on her life; Sheila Watt-Cloutier, the Inuit leater and Nobel Peace Prize nominee who is saving her people from global warming; Dr. Julian Atim, a twenty-something Ugandan AIDS orphan fighting for health rights in her country; and several others.Presented by Glamour, and featuring an introduction by United Nations Goodwill Ambassador and Academy Award-winning actress Angelina Jolie, In Search of Hope Is a testament to the power of hope. Glamour will donate 100 percent of its proceeds and royalties from In Search of Hope to charities selected by the women profiled. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Enduring Hope
Mariane Pearl's poignant journey around the globe in search of other inspiring tales of perseverance in the face of evil is beautifully documented in this collection of interviews. The lasting strength of women to rise from the ashes and triumph by demonstrating love and life, despite all external pressures, is made all the more personal to the reader by the wonderful photographic accents that accompany each of her interviews. A definite must read to remind us of the trials that exist around us, and the quiet victories that refuse to let loss have the last word in life.

4-0 out of 5 stars In Search of Hope
This is an absolutely beautiful book. The stories are inspiring and the photographs are stunning!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book for a Great Cause!
An inspiring journey, an amazing story and beautiful photos as well. I would recommend this book to anyone. I would especially reccomend it to Women everywhere.

5-0 out of 5 stars excellent book
After having read Mariane's book "A Mighty Heart" and after have seen the movie as well, what else could I say but this : Mariane is a great person who would have all the reasons to hate the whole world but instead of that, she tries to understand people in distress, people confronted to huge problems. This book perfectly shows us that if there is goodwill, there is hope for solutions, there is hope for a better world.
I really recommend this book to those who believe there is no hope for a better future !

5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring and lovely
Many people know Mariane Pearl only as the widow of Daniel Pearl, who wrote a memoir, and had a movie made about her life starring the megastar Angelina Jolie. People forget that Mariane Pearl is a journalist and a good journalist at that.

Pearl has been faced with the kind of hatred that makes it easy for someone to give up. Mariane Pearl never gave up and she disarms her enemies by writing this book, filled with beautiful, moving photographs, and earnest, honest accounts of women all over the globe making a difference. There's women fighting against human trafficking, oppression, violence, disease, and injustice...this book is inspiring and it opens the eyes we can no longer close.

Read this book, be inspired, and act on it. Pearl has shown us that we can change the world in small ways and it is all up to us to make the difference. Call it cheesy, cliché, what you will...but it's the complete truth. ... Read more

1-0 out of 5 stars Not that great...
Having read other biographies about Angelina Jolie, this was a yawner! It was badly edited, non specific, non informative and even the information it tried to provide was not correct. If you want a good biography, this is not it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very entertaining and informative biography on Ms. Jolie =-)
This biography on Angelina Jolie was very well written and informative. The book included tons of fun facts about her, and had alot of great pictures. I enjoyed the book very much and would absolutely recommend it. If you're a Jolie fan, this book is for you. I also recommend Notes from My Travels by Angelina. That book was very touching and inspirational. I highly recommend both books.

2-0 out of 5 stars nothing new here
Ordered the book to find out something new about Angie. Well, it was dissapointment- there was nothing new I could learn about Angelina. And the book wasn't that interesting to read generally.

2-0 out of 5 stars Skip this book
I'm an Angelina Jolie fan and had hoped to learn a lot about her by reading this biography.I was seriously disappointed.I didn't learn much, as well as the book was not well written.I felt like half the book was dedicated to reviewing her movies or telling more about the movie plots, which I don't care about.I wanted to learn more about Angelina Jolie as a person, and frankly, this book didn't teach me much.It was a waste of my time to read.

4-0 out of 5 stars ENTERTAINING
I FOUND THIS BOOK ABOUT ANGELINA TO BE A GOOD READ. IT IS SHORT AND SWEET, EASY TO READ. IT COVERS HER LIFE AND CAREER IN GENERAL WITHOUT A GREAT DEAL OF DETAIL. IF YOU LIKE TO READ ABOUT THE MOVIES SHE HAS MADE AND A BIT ABOUT HER PRIVATE LIFE, THEN THIS BOOK IS FOR YOU. IT HAS MANY PICS AND IS A NICE KEEPSAKE IF YOU ENJOY THIS GORGEOUS AND TALENTED ACTRESS. A NICE BUY. ... Read more

Product Description
This book is an interesting commentary on Marriage as an endangered institution and why it is so hard for two people to come together in such a union and make it work. It is a 'must read' for any romantic's out there, lovers, married people, single people and anyone hoping to get married some day. It does so by very carefully examining what could have made the "Fairytale" union of Brad Pitt and Jennifer Aniston turn out to be a Nightmare for the latter. It looks at the role played in the whole saga by that acclaimed femme fatale, Ms. Angelina Jolie. How does a human being(in this case, Jennifer Aniston) deal with a situation where they marry someone they "know" quite well and wake up one day to find a complete stranger? It delves deeply into the issues arising as a result of the shocking break up. It weighs in on Brad's decision to dump his wife for a new beginning with a high risk partner and compares his actions to those of a select group within the industry. Did fate have a hand in the birth of Brangelina, in other words was it ordained from above? The book also examines the sometimes frightening and often ridiculous antics of the paparazzi as it relates to the saga. What are the possibilities of having a lasting union between a confirmed bi-sexual female and a heterosexual male! Will the Media ever allow Jen to get over Brad? It provides an analysis of the various Lessons of the break up of the decade and the new Adoption Mania, how genuine is it all. Are these innocent Orphans becoming mere pawns in a PR Orchestra. It concludes by posing all those sensitive questions to all parties in the Triangle, that everyone wishes they could have the opportunity to ask them but in reality can't. For example, what would Ange do if she ever catches Brad with naked pictures of Zahara when she is an adult, ala Woody Allen? Or, what is likely to happen if Brad and Ange both fall for the same woman?

1-0 out of 5 stars Worst book ever.
Nothing "untold" here unless you don't know Yvonne Fernandez personally and her viewpoint of marriage and Hollywood. That pretty much sums up the book.

I found the title to be extremely misleading. Here is what I suggest, "WHAT METHINKS: MY [HUMBLE] OPINION ABOUT HOLLYWOOD AND MARRIAGE" by Yvonne Fernandez.

Do NOT waste your money on this book.In fact, don't waste your time or money getting it from the Library either. If you have followed this story, there is nothing in the book you don't already know.Thumbs down.

1-0 out of 5 stars Not what I expected
As an Angelina Jolie fan, I thought this book might be interesting.Mind this, it's not because I deeply respect and admire Angelina that I don't like Jennifer Aniston : I have nothing against that very good actress and I am sorry for her that her marriage to Brad Pitt didn't last.To the book now : I have the clear impression this book announced as a thourough study of the relationship between Brad Pitt and Jennifer and later to Angelina only adds to the gossip we could (and still can) read in the yellow press. The author never met one of the three persons involved nor relatives ... What was her starting point to analyse the relationship ? The summary on the back cover makes us believe it is a serious study, and in fact it is not.So I prefer to warn possible purchasers : don't expect an objective analysis; it is a very personal point of view of the author, you may or may not agree with, of course.

1-0 out of 5 stars Big disappointment
I immediately regretted buying this book after the first few pages. For one, the author obviously did not evenbother todo spell checking, proofreading or editing! It is full of grammatical errors which made me suspicious right away if the contents are legit. I read through it because I was hoping I would be somehow pleasantly surprised at the end but it just didn't deliver.I would sum this up as tabloid fodder disguised as aworthybook. ... Read more
