Product Description
When first introduced to the market in 1998, Contemporary Management, by Jones and George made a huge splash with its innovative voice, content, pedagogy, design, and package. The cutting-edge 3rd Edition continues to redefine what principles of management texts should look, sound, and feel like. Authors Gareth Jones and Jennifer George are dedicated to the challenge of Making It Real for students. As a team, they are uniquely qualified to write about both the strategic imperative for managers and organizational challenges that real managers face! Their combined research and text-writing experience is matched by no author team today.

Contemporary Management is a comprehensive text that surveys the theoretical underpinnings of modern management thought and research and through a variety of real world examples from small, medium, and large companies shows the reader how those ideas are used by practicing managers. Of course, the organization of this text follows the mainstream functional approach of planning, organizing, leading, and controlling; but the content is flexible and encourages instructors to use the organization they are most comfortable with. The themes of diversity, ethics, and information technology have been greatly expanded in the 3rd Edition through in-text examples, photographs, unboxed stories, and the end-of-chapter material – all areas of importance that truly serve to bring to life the workplace realities that today's student will encounter in the course of a career. ... Product Description
Cardiovascular disease is the main cause of death across Europe, accounting for over four million deaths each year. The main objectives of preventive cardiology are to increase the duration and improve the quality of a patient's life, and this indispensible manual provides practical advice on how to structure and run a preventive cardiology programme, addressing the prevention of cardiovascular disease in clinical practice through lifestyle, risk factor and therapeutic management of patients.

The approach described in this manual is for patients with atherosclerotic cardiovascular disease, those at high risk of developing cardiovascular disease and also for their families to provide the appropriate support. It is written by the multidisciplinary team who coordinated the EUROACTION demonstration project in preventive cardiology in 8 countries in Europe, and provides a comprehensive lifestyle and cardiovascular risk factor management strategy for all high risk patients and their families. It is directed at doctors, nurses, dietitians and physiotherapists, physical activity specialists and other disciplines involved in the preventive and rehabilitative care of these patients.

The manual takes the professional through the patient and family pathway - from patient identification, recruitment of patient and family, comprehensive assessment of lifestyle and cardiovascular risk factors, to management of lifestyle change: stopping smoking, making healthy food choices, becoming physically active, achieving a healthy weight and shape and management of blood pressure, blood lipids and blood glucose to healthy levels. A programme model is described which includes both group and individual one-to-one approaches to care. The role of each member of the multi-disciplinary team is described together with the tools available to achieve lifestyle and risk factor change. ... Read more

Product Description
The connection between fashion, femininity, frivolity and Frenchness has become a cliché. Yet, relegating fashion to the realm of frivolity and femininity is a distinctly modern belief that developed along with the urban culture of the Enlightenment. In eighteenth-century France, a commercial culture filled with shop girls, fashion magazines and window displays began to supplant a courtly fashion culture based on rank and distinction, stimulating debates over the proper relationships between women and commercial culture and between morality and taste. The story of how "la mode" was "sexed" as feminine offers compelling insights into the political, economic and cultural tensions that marked the birth of modern commercial culture. Jones examines men's and women's relation to fashion at this time, looking at both consumption and production to show the origins of the idea of shopping and fashion as specifically feminine.

Product Description
Jones/George, Essentials of Contemporary Management is the concise edition of the market bestselling textbook by the same author team. Jones and George are dedicated to the challenge of “Making It Real” for students. The authors present management in a way that makes its relevance obvious even to students who might lack exposure to a “real-life” management context. This is accomplished thru a diverse set of examples, and the unique, and most popular feature of the text, the “Manager as a Person” Chapter 2. This chapter discusses managers as real people with their own personalities, strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and problems and this theme is carried thru the remaining chapters. This text also discusses the importance of management competencies--the specific set of skills, abilities, and experiences that gives one manager the ability to perform at a higher level than another in a specific context. The themes of diversity, ethics, globalization, and information technology are integrated throughout. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Happy Birthday Dr. King
I really enjoyed this book. When Jamal got in a fight I really thought it was a good example of what Dr. King did to help us.I bet when people read this book they will want to celebrate Dr. kings birthday, because what he did for us.Dr. King really made a difference in our world.Jamals grandpa got mad at him because black people back then were force to sit in the back of the bus.

5-0 out of 5 stars Acurate Portrait of a Legend
I read this book to my kindergartners and they fell in love with Dr. King. I saw the boys deeply engrossed in the story almost imagining themselves in Dr. King's position. I doubt they had ever heard of an African American man, in their young lives, who had such an enormous effect on the lives of people. They understood that Dr. King was a powerful man and the only person they could equate his power to was George Bush. I think they will forever remember the accomplishments of Dr. King because of the engaging way this author presented his life. At the mention of Dr. King's name my students say, "he's the greatest." ... Read more

Product Description
This book provides background information on the worldwide Adventist Church and, in particular, the role that music plays in the church as a whole. From the beginnings of the mission in Papua New Guiena in 1908, a panoramic outline of Adventist missions in the country and their church music is presented. Noticeable are the attempts of the missionaries to introduce a foreign culture against the backdrop of the country's traditional musical heritage. This study examines the church music practices and the attitudes of members and leaders towards aspects of worship music, providing analytical material for the fruition of an indigenously-conceived church music style. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars :)
--Hal is sixteen and has started a journal to put his sometimes confusing thoughts down on paper: he doesn't believe in anything, including belief, but how can he not believe in belief if he has to believe to do it? Hal's biggest problem besides the belief confusion is Zack, his alter ego and imaginary friend who lives in his mind and replies to all of his questions. Wanting to get rid of Zack, Hal starts a science fiction story featuring Zack as the main character, aboard a ship heading deeper and deeper into outer space. Will this get rid of Zack or does Hal need Zack more than he thinks? --The confusing thoughts of a teenager are brilliantly displayed in this great and funny book. --Marisa ... Read more
