emotion rollercoaster
This book was way more than I thought it would be.It controls your emotions throughout the story as it takes you through a young lady's journey to accept responsibility.You form opinions about your favorite characters only to have them changed as you delve deeper into the story.This story keeps you going until the end

Horses and Music
I purchased this novel while attending the Writing the Rockies conference in Gunnison, Colorado earlier this year.Corrine Brown was one of the instructors and I was very impressed with her.

This book is not what I had expected given the qualifications of the writers.It is not an adult book, but is ideal for teenagers and very young adults.There are excellent lessons about life, adversity and "doing the right thing" imparted in the book.

The characters are underdeveloped and too predictable for this to qualify as literature for the adult reader. However, it was a fun read and was very fast paced at times.The parts about the horses and the ranching were the most interesting for me.The machanics of producing music and the pitfalls of the music industry were also interesting because it was my first exposure to that world.I have little patience with the emotional volatility and mercurial reactions by the characters to events as they unfolded in the story.But, I have the same reaction to that behavior in everyday life.

I look forward to reading Corrine's novel, "MacGregor's Lantern" in the near future.I would recommend this book for kids age fifteen and up.

fascinating character study
In Fairfield, New Jersey, Nashville promoters Mike Foxworthy and Mart Heistler think that with some polish singer Amelia "Tawny" Talbott can be their ticket back to the big time.Broke and at the end of her rope Tawny and her manager Terry Ann Hill agree to her being turned into the "Daughter of the American West".

Their old army buddy Jess McLain owes Mike a favor so the former rodeo star and local musician agrees to house Tawny on his J Bar M Ranch in Wyoming though he would prefer to say no.He knows he needs the money if Mike's instincts prove correct and his ranch is to survive.When Tawny arrives, he hears her talent when she sings, but also knows she will fail because she is an alcoholic.Pushing her beyond her limit as if she was a new military recruit she cleans up but shocks him when she encourages him to be all that he can be by going back on the rodeo circuit even as they fall in love.

SANCTUARY RANCH is a fascinating character study starring two individuals who seemingly on the surface have noting in common, but quickly realize they share plenty as each encourages the other to conquer their demons that hold them back.The support cast is solid adding to the feel of modern day life on a Wyoming ranch or the behind the scenes manipulation in the Nashville music world.However, this contemporary is the story of two people meeting with each bringing out the best in the other.

Very nice and complete history!

The Micheal Jordan Book Review
"The Chicago Bulls," the announcer called out, "pick Michael Jordan of the University of North Carolina."Michael Jordan was born in a Brooklyn hospital on February 17, 1963.He then went to Laney High School, a school where his number and jersey would be retired.After high school, Jordan went to the University of North Carolina where he became the big man on campus after winning the college a NCAA championship in 1977.As a junior at UNC, Michael Jordan entered the NBA draft and was drafted to the Chicago Bulls.In the NBA, Jordan would be known as the leagues leading scorer and take his team to win many NBA championships.In 1999, Michael Jordan retired and would be known as a life long legend.I recommend that everyone who is familiar with Michael Jordan and the game of basketball read this book.
One reason why I recommend this book to people is because it gives you outstanding quotes that make you feel as though you were right there when something was said.For example, "I wasn't guarding him," Dennis Johnson said after the game. "No one was guarding him. No one can guard him."Also, "You could tell something magical was happening," said Michael's teammate, Orlando Woolridge.""He was incredible."In addition, "Mr. Jordan," the boy's father said."Can I take a picture of you with my son?"With these quotes, you could imagine yourself being there right when it was said.
Another reason why I thought this book was fantastic is because it was very specific and used a variety of descriptive words.For instance, Michael hated losing, it was small consolation that he was named the top vote-getter in the balloting for the All-Star team with more than one million votes.Like the sentence, Michael was in great shape despite the fact that in the early part of his career was filled with fast-foods favorites like hamburgers and fried chicken.Last, Their opponent was the Georgetown Hoyas, a formidable team whose freshman center was future New York Knicks' star Patrick Ewing.Having good descriptive sentences help you to get a better understanding of the novel that you are reading.
The final reason why I believe that this book is wonderful is because it gives interesting facts about Michael Jordan.For example, Micheal Jordan chose the number twenty- three because he wanted to be half as good as his brother and his brother's number was forty-five.Also, he was intentionally fouled by many players who actually wanted to injure him.Last, Jordan was going to go to UVA and UCLA, but never got a response and decided to go play for Coach Dean Smith.After reading this book, I learned so much new information about the life of Michael Jordan.
I recommend that everyone read this book because it gives interesting facts, is very specific and used a variety of descriptive words, and gives outstanding quotes.If you read this book you could find out even more of Michael Jordan's thoughts and secrets.If you are familiar with the game of basketball and Michael Jordan, then you should read this book.

High Flying Book
This book of Michael Jordan's life was a great. I tells how he got to be who he is today. Michael didn't havethat hard of a life when he was yuonger but when he went into high school at Laney a little high school in Wilmington he had problems because kids would make fun of his bald head and his big ears when he was around girls he liked. Then Michael starsted to jip class to practice on his basketball skills and that really effected his grades. Now its Michael's senior year and he doesn't think that any college recruits will look at him. But one coach gave him a chance to take a tour of the schooland see if Michael liked it. That coaches name was Dean Smith who was the basketball coach of the North Carolina Tarheels.Michael left from North Carolina in his junior year and entered the NBA draft and was drafted by the Chicago Bulls inthe 1st round and he was the 3rd pick overall. Michael Lead the the Bulls to 6 NBA titles later in his career and then retired after his 6th title.

Alibi Junior High by Greg Logsted
I thought that this was a great book about everything.It had a good plot and ending although i was a bit confused about Andy.Overall it was a very good book.

Alibi Junior High
I picked up Alibi Junior High at the library, because the cover and the blurb made it sound fun. This book is much more than fun. Cody has spent his entire 13 years of life as an operative for the CIA, working as part of a team with his dad. Then, when his dad is in danger, Cody is dropped with his aunt and--without any preparation-into 8th grade at the local school. All of this makes the book sound like it'll be straight comedy or an Alex-Ryder type book. None of which it is. Cody has suffered serious trauma before the book opens, and--after that event--is separated abruptly and immediately from his father. Logsted doesn't treat this trauma or the emotional aftermath's lightly (nor does he play it with too heavy a hand). The junior high antics that drive Cody nearly nuts are not that new, but Cody's reaction to them feels on target FOR WHO HE IS--a kid who really hasn't dealt with any of this and who--and this is the important part--is not in any mood to deal with them now, not the way the kids or the teachers or the admistration demands or expects. Or, frankly, the reader. Add Andy, a neighbor recently sent home, armless, from Iraq (and another character written beautifully)--and the danger Cody senses is given validity by someone else who would know, feeling real, present, and worrisome.

A great read for any sharp, interested, middle-grade reader...and anyone else.

Greg Logsted writes a quirky but lovable character who just wants to be himself.I liked the witty smart aleck personality of Cody. This book takes a spy and places him in the normal world - without a mission, making this a unique tale.As a sucker for spy novels, I hope this isn't the last I read about Cody Saron.

Great Thriller for Aggressive 9-12 Year Old Boys
I just finished reading Greg Logsted's Alibi Junior High in a single sitting.Thankfully the family had other things to do for a while because the author nailed me to the pages with his premise and with the fantastic pacing of this young adult novel.I wasn't tempted even once to get up and go do something else.Logsted starts his spell on page one, and readers will have to stay with him to see what ultimately happens to Cody Saron, the thirteen year old professional spy.

Admittedly, I had to check my willing suspension of disbelief at the door.But I do the same thing for any fantasy novel I read.Thirteen year old spies?Then I thought about Uganda and other places around the globe where children are given assault rifles and get drafted into military maneuvers.

I love the Alex Rider series as well, but those books seem like a fantasy story compared to Logsted's sharp-edged view of the espionage world.Cody's story could actually happen the way the author describes it, and I felt a little uncomfortable with that as much as it excited me.

For all of Cody's life, he's faced constant danger and the threat of death.He's comfortable with those things.It's the idea of junior high and all the new social pecking order stuff he has to learn that really throws him off his stride.I enjoyed the confrontations he has with his teachers and the principal a lot, and ended up laughing out loud at his one-liners and sarcastic wit.This is a hero that smart, aggressive pre-teens can root for.Better than that, they can totally understand Cody's dislike of the public school system.

I do, however, wish Cody would have found that one teacher that truly "got" him.Most junior high kids do.

However, Cody's next door neighbor, a returning Iraq war vet who lost an arm, does get Cody.One of the best parts in the book that links them is when a string of firecrackers goes off and Cody and Andy hit the ground together.They knew each other at once.

I liked all the thinking that Logsted puts into the conflict he creates for his character, and I enjoyed tremendously the creative ways that Cody decides to overcome those conflicts.A lot of the action and characterization gets carried out in the dialogue.

The book is easy to read, and paced so well.Every time you think Cody has one problem solved, another crops up.The various mysteries that Logsted sets up get solved pretty well, and with twists that I didn't see coming.

I don't know if this is the only book that's going to be written about Cody Saron, but I'd definitely like another.Either in junior high or in international danger would be just fine with me.

This is a great book for reluctant readers and boys who'd rather spend their time playing video games.Cody Saron is cut from the same heroic cloth as the characters in those video games.

buyer beware
At the time of writing this there are 12 listings (on amazon.ca) of "Arthur, High King Of England" by Michael Morpungo and Michael Foreman. Two are audio cassettes. Eight of the ten remaining books all have the same two reader's reviews and same two product reviews attached to all eight listed editions of this book. The books are all clearly different: hardcover, softcover, different editions range in overall size dimensions and in pages from 144 to 256. Different copyright years and publishers. The price range is from three or so dollars Cdn to about fifty-five. The cover of one appears to perhaps have a different illustrator, but the "search inside" feature takes one to the same single different edition of this book so is not helpful to discern what the differences of this edition or any of the various editions may be.

I came to this book actually searching through Michael Foreman's work, an illustrator whose watercolor work I find very evocative. Imagine my disappointment and the lack of helpfulness when, through eight editions, two (times 8) product reviews and two (times 8) reader's reviews, there is no mention of the illustration whatsoever.

After ordering the book and its arrival I found that this amazon web page of Arthur High King of Britain (with the blue cover of an older adolescent on a charging horse, the Egmont edition) is completely misleading. The reproductions of the illustrations inside are all in black and white and cropped to death, completely destroying Michael Foreman's sense of space, color and action, which you get a taste of on the cover at least, and no where on the web page is this stated. In the "search inside" feature in fact, some of the color plates of a different edition are shown.

Don't order this book, hold out for a color edition. You'll be glad you did. Admonish amazon to represent the product(s) accurately and fairly so that you may make an informed decision, and not have to find out by ordering the book and returning it. I am a little surprised that the author and editor would even allow this edition to come out, so poorly does it portray their work together, but I know that sometimes when a publisher acquires the rights they do with it what they want.

Here are some specific recommendations/requests:
1) Don't attach the "search inside" feature to any different edition of the same title. Attach it to the one from which it was scanned only.
2) For children's or any illustrated book, don't attach a literary product review only. Without a review of the illustration of that particular edition, an equally integral part of the publication, any review is incomplete and inadequate and even misleading, for which, in this case, amazon bears the responsibility for posting it.

More accurate reviews of the various other editions would still be helpful.

I further found after posting this review, that it automatically has been added to editions of the book for which I did not write it, hence my description of the cover of the one to which it applies (the Egmont edition).

I should mention, the text is reviewed in a good cross section in the other reviews currently posted at least on the amazon.ca site. Some five star reviews and one review there that gives it one star based on the morally conservative position that this book exposes the topic of incest in a book ostensibly aimed at children/adolescents.

Fantastic
I think this is the version I had (someone stole mine a year ago - I'm trying to find the right version again). So, if I'm right about the version, this audiobook is the best thing I've ever listened to. The author and narrator makes the entire story come to life! A boy gets rescued from an incoming tide and taken to the legendary 'Avalon' by none other than Arthur Pendragon, High King of Britain. Arthur tells him some of the fabulous stories of himself and his friends: the Knights of the Round Table (Gawain, Lancelot and Tristrum), Merlin and Guenivere, and the horrible treachery of his half-sister and their son, I believe their names were Morgana Le Fay, and Mordred. I was listening to it at the age of 7-8 years old, and I've always thought it was wonderful (I'm 17 now). I miss it so much, I can still hear the sound of the sea, and the voices. I can still imagine the scenes, and remember almost all of most of the stories. It is quite possibly the most intense, wonderful, fantastic audiobook in the world. I find I loved it more than my music and other audiobooks that I've been listening to since (so not a stereotyical teenager then). I've also found that ordering it from Amazon.com makes the handling and shipping price more than the cost of the actual audiobook itself! (I live in England) Which means I'm not allowed to get it, and Amazon.co.uk doesn't stock it. Still, it's a fantastic story, with amazing narration and anyone, kid or adult, who has it or can listen to it is extremely lucky. Don't take it for granted if you love it - it might not always be there.

Exciting tales of Camelot
I had borrowed this book from the library in audiobook format hoping to gain a better understanding of King Arthur's tale. I was not disappointed! The audiobook is read by the author who distinctly brings each character to life. The story itself is vividly full of details and emotion. It brings to light not only the tale of Arthur himself, but of Lancelot, Gawain (and the Green Knight), Tristan and Isolde, along with other colorful characters. Prior to this book I knew very little about Arthurian legend, nor did I really care to know about it. Compared to Greek and Egyptian mythology, Arthurian legend seemed dull. Now I am trying to broaden my knowledge of Camelot and the mythos surrounding it.
To address the claim that the story is too sexually explict, there are mentions of "nights of love" etc. However the descriptions stop there. There is nothing offensive in this book, especially when compared to some other "award winning" (i.e. banned) books children and young adults are made to read.

ADON'T MISS.
This book is the best I'll probably ever read.I think the illustrations are excellent, and it's made an old story come to life. My favourite thing about the story is how it keep's popping up with new ideas, and how it goes in and out of him telling the story and the boy actually being there in the cave. My favourite character is Bercelet,I like the idea of him being Merlin's eyes and ears. I think it's a shame about Lancelot and King Arthur fighting and that Lancelot tookArthur's wife.It's brilliant! I look forward to reading more books by Michael Morpurgo.
