Come to a vivid new sense of Christ s Presence in the Eucharist The Holy Eucharist has nourished the Faith of Catholics for centuries -- but it s all too easy to let routine dull your sense of the transforming power of this sacrament. This book will stir the embers of your love for the Eucharist into a bright glowing flame. In it, Fr. John A. 3-0 out of 5 stars Great book but not the best
This is a good book for preparation for mass but perhaps the best out there right now is The How-To Book of the Mass by Michael Dubruiel. It is filled with bite size nuggets about the Eucharist as well as solid notes on spiritually getting more out of every Mass you attend.

5-0 out of 5 stars To Better Understand the Gift of the Eucharist
This book has become a daily devotional for me, as I am consuming it overand over again. It gives new and greater understanding of this wonderfulgift, the Eucharist. It is not to be read quickly, as it is a feast to berelished. Each bite must be pondered. The author, John Kane, left awonderful book for all of us who have need to be drawn closer to Christthrough the Eucharist. When I first began reading it, I thought it toodeep, and put it aside. For some reason, I came back to it, and I'm soglad I did. ... A Line In The Sand by Al & Joanna Lacy is the first story in the trilogy, The Kane Legacy. The story begins in Boston, Massachusetts, in the year 1834. The Kane's are Irish descendents, tall, rugged, and strong. Their faith is even stronger, and they live what they believe. Abram is the Bareknuckle Champion of the Boston Harbor Docks, where he and his four sons work on the dock.

Alan Kane does not want to spend the rest of his life working on the docks. He heard that Steven Austin was giving each family or single man 640 acres. The excitement quickly spread throughout the family. Adam, Abram and Angela soon follow, eager to build new lives at the Circle C Ranch. There were rumors of war in Texas. Colonel William Travis needs men to fight Mexico. Alan and Adam answer the call. At the Alamo , they meet Davy Crocket and Jim Bowie. The Kane's would have to fight to protect their new home from Mexico's General Santa Ana.

A Line In The Sand by Al and Joanna Lacy is like taking a step back in time. The plot is well- developed and fast paced. The story is simple and easy to read. The characters are pleasant and very likable. Angela is selfless, taking care of her ill mother. Abram, the patriarch, of the family has taught his children morals. I like this book; it is refreshing to read a good romance that is written from a Christian perspective, showing strong moral values. Well done Al and Joanna! I highly recommend A Line In The Sand to fans of Christian romance.

Rabghuzi's The Stories of the Prophets, written in A.D.1310 in Khwarezmian Turkish, is one of the most important Islamic Turkishtexts. Notwithstanding this fact, a critical edition has never before beenpublished. The work contains a mixture of theological discourse, popularstories and poems which together form an important source both for historicallinguistics and literary criticism, and for Islamic studies. The presentpublication offers an edition of the text in two volumes. The first volumecontains a critical text edition based on the British Library manuscript (theoldest manuscript extant), but with additions from, and some collation with, two manuscripts from libraries in St. Petersburg. The text edition isaccompanied by a selective glossary. The translation offered in the secondvolume is directly based on the text as established in the first volume.Extensive indices are included to enhance the usefulness of the edition as awhole. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Sharlene is a great author!
I love Sharlene's books. I have read all of her books except one, and I have never failed to be thrilled by them! You can see her love of children in each of her books, and this was no exception. Abbie is a character that, despite her flaws, you love. Her drive to defend others and stand up for what she believed in was really inspiring. I loved her idea for the Hope House! That was great. :) Noah had been hurt by so many people and was struggling just to get by, day-by-day. I really liked him as the male lead for this book, and Abbie's "other half." While on the long side, (I tend to like longer books, though) I was able to read this book fairly quickly. The element of suspense in the book certainly didn't hurt that! If you haven't read anything by Sharlene, or just haven't read this series yet, I suggest you move it towards the top of your To Be Read pile, because it is worth it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Sharon MacLaren "Daughters of Jacob Kane" series.
Sharon MacLaren is a fabulous author.I read her whole series of Jacob Kane daughters and I loved all of them.I can't wait until she comes out with a new book. Her books also take you back in time when things were not always easy, but a good life lesson was learned from every book.I highly recommend her work.

5-0 out of 5 stars Abbie Ann a Great Read
Abbie Ann Kane's work with the Women's Christian Temperance Union not only bothers her expected fiancé, but an unknown person who threatens her life.
WCTU members are concerned about alcohol's destruction on the family and society.Abbie Ann's group in Sandy Shores, Mich., goes into bars singing hymns and asking owners to close. Although it's 1907, and Carrie Nation's followers are still carrying axes, smashing taverns' fixtures and bottles, Abbie Ann's club is peaceful, but intrusive. Saloons owners and patrons don't like it, especially the drunk who came speeding down the street and caused Noah Carson to crash his buggy through the window of Kane's Whatnot shop where Abbie works. Noah is recently divorced and the father of a young son.
Is this drunk the one who threw the rock with the threatening note attached through the window? But he's in jail. Could it be a tavern owner? Who is the person she glimpses in the shadows following her?Who left the scrawled note in the store?
Eventually, the stalker and a friend attempt to carry through on their threats.
But other events tangle themselves around Abbie. Peter Sinclair, vice president of Sandy Shores Bank and Trust, who has courted her for months, appears to love only himself. At the same time, Noah Carson, a boat builder, and his son, Toby, meddle with her heart.
The book has issues of unique interest, such as divorce, remarriage, renewing broken relationships, forgiveness. The author, through experience or in-depth research, relays expansive knowledge on building a racing yacht. The WCTU's activities are interesting, especially discovering their help for alcoholic's families and sponsoring a home for abused women.
I recommend Abbie Ann as a good read. The author's characters come alive, she paints a good scene, and tells a suspenseful story. I'll let you find out how it ends.

5-0 out of 5 stars Very enjoyable read!
Another wonderful read by Sharlene MacClaren. I loved this series. Sharlene's books are a cut above. The story lines are creative, original and very inspiring. Everything about this book was believable - nothing felt contrived. Now I've read all her books and will have to patiently wait for another. It won't be easy!

5-0 out of 5 stars A delightful read
Abbie Ann is engaging and delightful. Even though I haven't read the other two in the series, it was easy to pick up this book and get right in to the story.

Abbie Ann is the youngest of Jacob Kane's daughters. She's filled her life with various activities, including helping at her father's store and as a leader of the Temperance Union. Her activities with the Temperance Union raise the ire of someone, her life is endangered.

Abbie Ann is attracted to a new man in town, Noah Carson, who is a divorced father with a young son to care for. Although Abbie is attracted to Noah, she fiercely fights it because after all, he is a divorced man who didn't keep his marriage vows.

Will this be the man for Abbie, or will she wait for another? ... Read more

Product Description
Fritz Meier (1912-1998) is one of the most outstanding Orientalists of this century. His publications combine masterful philological method and precision, profound and penetrating textual interpretation, and a wide-ranging familiarity with primary sources which may truly be characterized as phenomenal. Among the numerous fields in which he has undertaken original research, Persian poetry and Islamic mysticism (Sufism) in the widest sense stand out in particular. His work on Sufism covers the whole of the Islamic world and Islamic history from its beginnings up to the 20th century.

The present provides for the first time a translation of 15 of Fritz Meier's seminal articles. The selected articles deal with the history of Sufism; Sufi morals and practices such as dhikr and samâ‘; the historical development of the master-disciple relationship; Ibn Taymiyya's attitude toward Sufism; pious devotional practices such as making use of the tasliya; essential sources for the history of Sufism in the Maghreb and the Almoravids.

5-0 out of 5 stars Exceptional insight into the history and mysticism of Sufism
No one with a serious interest in the history of Sufism can now afford to avoid ESSAYS ON ISLAMIC PIETY & MYSTICISM, a magnificent collection of essays upon the history and nature of Sufism. Meier's studies are on parwith the legendary work of Massignon with a fantastic grasp of detail and asympathetic insight into the nature of mystical praxis.

The Swiss ScholarFritz Meier (1912-1998) was one of the principal Islamicists of thetwentieth century. His publications have been mostly in German and untilthis publication have suffered the fate of not being accessible to scholarsunfamiliar with the language. Meier's entire oeuvre combines expertphilological method and precision of thought, a deep-felt and penetratingtextual interpretation, and a extensive acquaintance with primary sourcesthat is unusual and even astounding. Among the numerous fields in which hehas initiated original research, Persian poetry and Islamic mysticism(Sufism) in the widest sense stand out in particular. His work on Sufismcovers the whole of the Islamic world and Islamic history from itsbeginnings up to the twentieth century. Also available in English is hisstudy of the warrior Abu Sa Id-I Abu L-Hayr. Because his works have beenwritten in German, whole debates on subjects concerning Sufism that havetaken place in Anglo-American academic circles, which to their own losshave not taken account of Meier's often pioneering points of view. Thetranslation s presented here are offered to remedy this situation. Thetranslator provides for the first time a translation of fifteen of FritzMeier's seminal articles. The selected articles deal with the history ofSufism; Sufi morals and practices such as dhikr and sama; the historicaldevelopment of the master disciple relationship; Ibn Taymiyya's attitudetoward Sufism; pious devotional practices such as making use of thetasliya; essential sources for the history of Sufism in the Maghreb and theAlmoravids. Extensive indices will facilitate the use of this epoch makingwork. The translations were reviewed by the author before his death andbibliographies have in many cases have been updated. Anyone with aninterest in the golden age of Sufism will find this work a treasure throveof mystical practice and historical rigor, mixed with astute psychologicalinsight. Meier's usual working method is to present a showcase of evidencefrom primary sources and to accompany this with extensive comparisons andnuanced elucidation. And although each essay focuses on a exact subject ortraces a particular development, Meier frequently adds remarks andjudgments which go additionally afield, particularly on matters to do withgeneral themes within Sufism. This propensity makes it difficult toparaphrase his work without betraying its individual distinguishingqualities. ... Read more

Product Description
Taking up one of the basic issues raised by modern awareness of religious pluralism, John F. Kane examines and criticizes the idea that differing religions could be equally true. He focuses on Karl Jasper's analysis of the symbolic character of religious truth as one major example of a widely accepted way of explaining the possibility of a plurality of true religions. The inadequacies of Jasper's approach are seen as instructive for future efforts to wrestle with the problem of pluralism and truth. ... Read more

Product Description
Everyone thinks they have the world figured out at 19. Toby Kane was no different. But until 1990, his world had been fairly small. A junior in college, he was happily on his way toward a degree in advertising, had the love and support of his family, and was actively involved in his school and church. It was time to shake things up a bit. He was bored.

In Storm on the Mountain, Kane spends his first summer away from the South Dakota farm he called home. Seeking a retreat of adventure and solitude, he struggles to distinguish right from wrong upon learning that his church camp co-workers do not always share his beliefs. His morality is called into question and his rebellious side is born.

Storm on the Mountain aims at the heart of anyone searching for self-identity. More importantly, it chronicles the humorous antics of youth and explores the challenge of seeking maturity while trying to maintain innocence. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Priests Are People, Too!
This book was a delightful read!It gives an up close and personal view of what the priesthood is like for so many that have answered God's call for their lives!

I no longer think of the priesthood as a "lonely" life.....this book has proven what "fulfilled" lives these men lead and that they truly do have lives in addition to their ministries of preaching, counseling, administrating parishes, performing weddings, funerals, baptisms, Holy Communions and Confirmations!
What an inspirational read, especially for those interested in vocations, young and old alike!Tom Kane is to be applauded for his work!

5-0 out of 5 stars Members of the "silent majority" speak
This book is a delightful compilation of very heartwarming stories depicting the human side of priests. With all the recent scandals surrounding the clergy in the Catholic Church, it was a pleasure to hear from the "silent majority" of good priests. If you ever thought priests were "holy" all the time, this book provides a refreshing look at the human and often humorous side of our church leaders.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helping my call
As a young man considering the priesthood, Mr. Kane's book answered many of the questions and curiosities that I had concerning many aspects of the priesthood including: celibacy, the many aspects of their job, and their temptations. After reading this book I am more enthusiastic about answering my call from God than ever before.Mr. Kane's book truly lives out the vocations slogan in my diocese that "A priest is an ORDINARY man called to do EXTRAORDINARY things."How true that is now.Any young man, even those who have never considered the priestly ministry should read this book and learn the awesomeness of being ordained and all of the amazing works of the spirit that priests perform. It is a great book to discover oneself and also to learn that everyone has theor own vocation.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Necessary Book
This book is a must read for Catholics and others interested in the continued viability of the Catholic priesthood. In a time when priest-bashing has become a cause du jour, Mr. Kane has filled the need for a positive report on the priesthood. His entertaining and uplifting account of the daily lives of priests is a welcome tonic to the bad news we seem to be bombarded with every day.A great and easy read that made me laugh and cry.I hope we will see more from this author. ...
