Insightful poetry by Nancy Kerrigan
I found myself racing through THE VOICES searching for the story, delighting in the rhythm and the evocative imagery .Memories from my psychiatric nursing experience were brought to the surface...yet I think anyone who has had to deal with the intricacies of relationships can easily relate to Ms. Kerrigan's respectful and perceptive poems. They are so satisfying, hinting at a truth the reader finds resonates with his/her experience. Now the volume sits on my bedside table. I pick it up and savor each poem in agreement with the title of one of my favorites, ONCE IS NOT ENOUGH. I highly recommend this poetry to every empathetic heart.

Hmmm...Not Much For the Money
I must confess to being quite disappointed with this pamphlet. I am a long time backpacker and was looking for a neat clear bit of guidance for my first aid kit, that would offer clear, immediate and useful help for me and others to treat people in the woods. I agree everyone who goes into the woods should have a basic knowledge of first aid, but in the crush of an emergency, it can be nice to have some confidence building guidance, and I'm practical enough to know that everyone will not be prepared.

First, the good. It is on very thin stock and appears to have a nice, thin protective coating. I think it would be durable in a trail situation, and very light to carry.

The bad. No kidding, it IS a pamphlet - one folded 11"x17" page. The advice, while all correct, is a) basic b) often references materials NOT likely to be carried in the wild (e.g. dilute povidone iodine 1%, antibiotics, anti fungual meds, etc.) c) basic advice repeated throughout: evacuate patient.

Overall, almost the whole pamphlet is the simplest of common sense. I'm not saying it's wrong, but I struggle to imagine the person who doesn't at least know if a person has been struck by lightning, that they should be evacuated and that to avoid lightning, don't shelter under tall trees (this is the whole of the advice for lightning).

Bottom line - I wasted $10 so you don't have to.
