5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent art book for all Christians
This is a thick soft cover art book that accompanies Biblical passages with art objects - paintings, sculptures from all cultures, Italian Renaissance to Modern Chinese water-colour that attempts to IMAGE the WORD - the gospel, and puts the love of Jesus in Christianity into a non-preachy, very emotionally and aesthetically moving document that appeals to the modern, intellectual, sophisticated, sensitive, cultured but atheist reader. It makes the Bible come alive in a fantasy of visual ecstasy. A marvellous gift for those who are hurting from a lack of understanding God's love. A spiritually soothing gift in a coffee-table book format.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent lectionary resource
One side-effect of the common lectionary used by Catholics, Episcopaleans, Lutheran, and various mainstream Protestant churches is the development of some excellent lectionary based resources.(A lectionary contains theBiblical readings for a given Sunday).

This series of three volumes forthe three year lectionary cycle (each year concentrates on a synopticGospel - Matthew, Mark or Luke) contains music, poetry, art, etc. that insome way reflect on the Scripture for a given Sunday. The volumes arecarefully multicultural.

An example: for the first Sunday in Advent, there are poems by Philipp Nicolai with Carl P. Daw Jr, and Alberto Taule;a photo of a cross of the community by the artisans of La Palma, ElSalvador; a responsory reading by Miriam Therese Winter; and a painting byGlen Strock.

Each Sunday is equally diverse. You should always be ableto find something that meets your needs and/or challenges you to reconsideryour needs.Highly recommended.

Product Description
Although postmenopausal women are encouraged to exercise to preserve bone mineral density (BMD), few studies have looked at what type of exercise is most effective.

OBJECTIVE: To review current data on the effects of exercise training on BMD in postmenopausal women when measured by dual-energy x-ray absorptiometry (DEXA).

METHODS: Thirteen studies met defined inclusion criteria and were analyzed. Length of exercise intervention was annualized, and only one effect at each region of interest (lumbar vertebrae, femoral neck, or distal forearm) per intervention group was recorded.

RESULTS: Overall, exercise training had a positive effect on BMD of the lumbar vertebrae and femoral neck. Aerobic exercise alone and in combination with strength training positively affected lumbar vertebrae BMD. Aerobic exercise also preserved BMD at the femoral neck.

CONCLUSION: These findings provide support for regular aerobic activity in postmenopausal women to offset age-related declines in BMD. ... Read more

Product Description
In the war on Iraq, the Bush administration has advanced a strategy of preemption—striking in advance of any realized threat. Creating its own reality of war and presenting the destabilization of a supposed threat as a measure of success, preemption allows victories to be declared in advance and justifies violent andunilateral strikes on peoples, on liberties, on perception, and on truth. Against Preemptive War,a special issue of positions: east asia cultures critique, is a call for critical and international opposition to the logic of preemptive war.

Gathering material from politically active scholars, artists, and authors from Europe, Asia, and North America, this collection reflects on the likely fallout from the corruptive U.S. strategy of preemption. In the introduction, the editors criticize the American press for being, with few exceptions, easily if not willingly deceived by the Bush administration’s propaganda regarding weapons of mass destruction. One contributor redefines fascism as a situation in which contradictions are evident but blatantly ignored, one which creates a false sense of cohesion between events. Another argues that U.S. military bases around the world are now maintained not for military defense and quick mobilization but to create a culture of American militarism, noting that troops were sent from the U.S. for the invasion of Iraq rather than from closer bases around the world. Finally, the issue raises a formidable question: how do we end war waged against what might come to pass rather than what actually is?
