The basic mission of the Army during the Vietnam War was to find ‘em and fix ‘em and kill ‘em. By 1966, many units still had not formally established the recon unit that was necessary to fulfill the “find ‘em” part of the mission. The Cavalry could not be included in this group as it did not possess the Div level recon asset that was thought by some to be necessary.Under difficult conditions, an LRRP team had to be organized and its personnel trained to possess the skills necessary to survive in the enemy’s backyard and return alive. This is the story of the creation of the 1st Cav Division LRRP, the training of its members, and the successful mounting of the first missions, which were required for the survival of this ground-breaking unit. This book is also a testament to men such as Ron Christopher, who had the perseverance, determination and the skills required to organize the LRRP, train its team members, and run those first missions that established the practicality of the 1st Cavalry Division LRRP. ... Product Description

Christopher Lee’s seminal history series, which accompanied the award–winning BBC radio series, narrates the rich and gripping story of Britain, from the Roman Invasion in 55 BC to the dawn of the 21st century. It focuses on the significant events and personalities that shaped Britain for over nearly 2000 years, tracing its emergence from the Dark Ages which followed the Romans' departure, through the great flowering of culture in medieval times and the gradual evolution of the modern state, to the making of an empire and the huge changes brought about by the industrial revolution.

4-0 out of 5 stars Complex subject made easy
To write a book about the development of a nation is a task in itself, considering the amount of time covered, changing political, religious and millitary influences and research of accurate reference material.

I think Lee does an excellent job. The constant use of source material referenced breaks up the expected monotony of when reading a text book and engages the reader much more effectively.

Even after reading it I still find myself pulling it out and using it a bit like a dictionary when I hear things mentioned like the Magna Carta, Cromwell, or the War of the Roses.

Whilst I'm sure there are other books out there on the subject that are more detailed, this book gives an excellent overview for the Britain enthusiast who wants a clear understanding of the region's chronological history.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Sceptered Isle 55 BC-1901

The time is the late 1950s.It is the end of an era.The end of the trade in which an old converted coal-burning ship with a Chinese crew and a handful of British officers would tramp from port to port, picking up cargo where it could, never knowing where it, and they, would be heading next. Christopher Lee, respected historian and author of the highly acclaimed BBC radio series, 'This Sceptred Isle', worked on these ships as a boy, growing up quickly as he tramped around the world. He worked with rough, strange and fascinating men and faithfully recorded all he saw and heard in diaries that form the basis for this riveting record. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars interesting subject, terrible writing
I had to read this book for a course, which was a good thing because I would never have made it through otherwise.I am interested in the subject, and you do learn more about what the world is like for a learning-disabled individual. It is amazing that this guy could write a book at all, even with a lot of help!Unfortunately, he doesn't appear to have had access to any kind of editorial services, so reading it is like reading a 200-page freshman essay:painful. This is a pity, since this book could have been a fascinating read, and even a sort of reference work.

5-0 out of 5 stars It was like cutting off the top his head and looking in.
I am the mother of a son with a severe reading disability. Tears welled up in my eyes when I readChristopher's reflections of his days in elementary school. I know my son was going through that too. I can not personallyimagine being in any place day after day for 14 years, surrounded withthings I could not understand nor cope with. I would be a very unhappy andprobably unruly, due to anger, soul. That is how many years my son was inschool by the time he graduated. He now attends Landmark College and hasbeen inducted into Phi Theta Kappa. So much for being the dunce so manythought he was. By the way, I found myself on the pages about math. Allthough everyone assured me it was easy, I never did get it very well. Irecommend this book to every parent and every educator involved with aSpecial Learner. You really can't cut off the tops of their heads to take alook inside, no matter how much you would like to. Read this book and youwill see just what might be going on in there.

4-0 out of 5 stars excellent insights for parents and teachers
The author provides those of us who are not LD with a view into his world and the perspective from which he approaches life and learning. As a teacher of students with learning disabilities, this book has helped me toapproach my students in a different and... better way.I routinelyrecommend this book to other teachers and parents, so that understandingand acceptance can be cultured.I applaud the author for taking the boldstep to share relevant information with those of us who work withindividuals with learning disabilities.

4-0 out of 5 stars revealing look from the inside
As a former tutor who help a job essentially identical to Rosemary's, I read this book eagerly, for it allowed me to visit the world outside of the tutor's office. My students, like Lee, had many talents but often found college challenged their self esteem. This book provides a revealing look at what Lee experienced in all the disciplines, as well as in life in general.

One scene that will stay with me forever was when Lee had to write a check and felt paralyzed with fear when he realized he had to risk misspelling words -- simple words -- in front of the clerk.

I assigned this book in my graduate education class, for I felt it would provide future teachers with adetailed, sensitive, thoughtfulaccount of students with learning disabilities. Many remarked that thisbook was the most influential book they had read, for they did not realize the abilities many students with L.D. have.

Some criticisms included the repetition; many felt the book needed to be edited further. We felt the strength lay in the anecdotes, the ones that were probably most difficult to share. But those rich stories are what make this book special, what make this book move beyond just another article about L.D.

Your future book may include other adults' experiences. We are all eager to read it. ... Read more

Product Description
Horticulture Avenues allows new gardeners or professional landscapers a full concept on plant identity and information from pot sizes to fertilizer to propagation and more. You can also get from the information full soil pH values on plants so you can plant 6.6 to 7.5 pH which allows excellent plant grouping (your not going to plant 5.5 pH with 7.8 pH plants, they will not grow together easily). Because of there importance I also included information on pests and diseases. Hopefully you might learn new avenues of landscaping after you read my book. If you select different varieties of trees, shrubs, palms, perennials, anuals and cycads they will enhance the beauty of your new garden beds. I, the author am sharing with you the reader my experiences through the years as a landscaper who is constantly learning new techniques in landscaping to beautify your gardening experiences. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars No Photos With EBook @ Kindle
THIS REVIEW WILL POST WITH BOTH PAPERBACK AND EBOOK FORMAT

EBOOK format,I tried to upload photos only to find Amazon troubleshooting which never got resolved. There are no clear concise directions on photo upload to Amazon Kindle. I think PC Kindle version is great expanding the ability for authors to sell more books. As far as photos, good luck to those who know how to do it. I'm not going to pay hundreds of $$$ to have someone format a ebook for Amazon. The cost will not cover book sales at this time.

Softcover - paperback format has photos and text.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Plant Book
You get 40 plants in this book, I couldn't believe the information this book offers on each plant. Propagation means, price, deseases and a glossary fro those terms. I will await the second volume to come. I'm buying three more books for Christmas presents this year. current price for a color page book is great. Normally I would spend up to $30 bucks for a full color page book.

I finally found a complete book autonomy on plants... ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars ** FABULOUS **
I am almost ashamed to admit that the book version of this title sat on my bookshelf for a year, as I thought it would be a very cumbersome read. Recently I picked up a CD version, of the title, from my local library. (There are approximately 10 CD's, each covering approx. 200 years of history). Now I am devouring the book, wondering why I waited so long to read it. I have borrowed & re-borrowed the CD's from the library, & I listen to them at home over & over again. What I particularly like about this title is the way the author refers to contemporary documents relevant to the time in history being covered. Christopher Lee has taken a subject which, in other's hands, can sometimes be flat & 'dry', & he has created a masterpiece. If you have even the slighest interest in history I urge you to either read the print version of the title, or if you can't get your hands on that beg or borrow a copy, in either print, on tape, or on CD. You WON'T be disappointed.I only wish someone would produce a masterpiece of this calibre for 'other' history e.g. French, Italian etc Oh, & BTW, 'This Sceptred Isle - Twentieth Century' has just hit the shelves in Australia. I have already purchased my copy. I expect it will be every bit as good as '55BC - 1901'

5-0 out of 5 stars The Audio Version
Given sets of these tapes as a holiday gift, I was slowed in my enthusiasm toward the givers. Facing a long drive, with ample entertainment backup, I listened to the first of many tapes. Could history on tape possibly subvert popular culture and current events ?I have now listened to these tapesmore than 6 times. The presentation, content, and most of all attitude ofthe material is addictive. The BBC should be commended again for theirquality educational products, and their significant contributions towardrestoring the positive reputation of the British people. I HIGHLY recommendpurchasing these tapes for yourselves and your children's enlightenment.

5-0 out of 5 stars Breath-taking!
I was totally captivated! What an incredible, sweeping history, sumptuously written and produced; rich by far in audio than if it were produced on film. Bravo BBC! At one point I even briefly understood theEnglish soccer hooligans - after all, rampaging around the Continentthumping foreigners is only what their predecessors have done for 1000years! With an incredibly rich and diverse history and an incalculablecontribution to the world's culture (hooliganism excepted!), Britons almosthave the right to be admired and to be what they are not - arrogant andboastful. We must admire too, their charm, wit and self-effacing modesty. Atip of the hat from California!
