Excerpt: She's So Unusual is the debut studio album by American pop singer-songwriter Cyndi Lauper, released in 1983 by Portrait Records (see 1983 in music). The album catapulted Lauper to stardom with such hits as "Girls Just Want to Have Fun", "She Bop" and "Time After Time". As of 2002 it has sold more than 19 million copies worldwide. The album peaked at #4 on the Billboard pop albums chart (US), and stayed in the top-forty of the Billboard 200 for sixty-five weeks; remaining on the charts for 172 weeks. The album was nominated for six Grammy Awards: Record of the Year ("Girls Just Want to Have Fun"), Best Female Pop Vocal Performance ("Girls Just Want to Have Fun"), Song of the Year ("Time After Time"), Album of the Year, Best Album Package, and Best New Artist, winning the latter two. It was produced by Rick Chertoff and William Wittman. Chertoff would go on to produce Nervous Night for The Hooters. He would also team up with Wittman to produce singer-songwriter Patty Smyth's debut album, Never Enough for MCA in 1987. In 2003, the album was ranked number 494 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time. allmusic's Stephen Thomas Erlewine gave the record 3.5 stars, calling it "giddy mix of self-confidence, effervescent popcraft, unabashed sentimentality, subvers...http://booksllc.net/?id=90127 ... Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865) is a novel written by English author Charles Lutwidge Dodgson under the pseudonym Lewis Carroll.[1] It tells the story of a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit hole into a fantasy world populated by peculiar and anthropomorphic creatures. The tale is filled with allusions to Dodgson's friends. The tale plays with logic in ways that have given the story lasting popularity with adults as well as children. It is considered to be one of the most characteristic examples of the genre of literary nonsense, and its narrative course and structure have been enormously influential, mainly in the fantasy genre. The book is commonly referred to by the abbreviated title Alice in Wonderland, an alternative title popularized by the numerous stage, film and television adaptations of the story produced over the years. Some printings of this title contain both Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and its sequel Through the Looking-Glass, and What Alice Found There. (Description obtained from wikipedia)

[Alice's Adventures in Wonderland (1865)
A surreal work of literary nonsense by Charles Lutwidge Dodgson (Lewis Carroll), considered a classic example of the genre and of English literature in general. It tells the story of a girl named Alice who falls down a rabbit-hole into a fantastic realm populated by peculiar and anthropomorphic creatures.

The tale is filled with allusions to Dodgson's friends (and enemies), and to the lessons that British schoolchildren were expected to memorize. The tale plays with logic in ways that have made the story of lasting popularity with adults as well as children. It is considered to be one of the most characteristic examples of the genre of literary nonsense, and its narrative course and structure has been enormously influential, mainly in the fantasy genre.] http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alice's_Adventures_in_Wonderland

1-0 out of 5 stars Not a good Kindle edition
Unfortunately, this Kindle version is missing almost all of the illustrations, which are an integral part of the book. And the poetry is not formatted correctly and is in red on my iPad Kindle.Through the Looking Glass [Kindle Edition] by BLTC is the one you want.

5-0 out of 5 stars Superior Kindle Edition
One of the disappointing things about the Kindle system is that Amazon's reader reviews of the Kindle books do not usually tell you which edition the review refers to. Where there are several Kindle editions, as with "Alice in Wonderland," this is important. While the book itself is a famous and timeless classic, some of the Kindle editions are much better than others. In particular, some have the original illustrations, some have other illustrations, and some have no illustrations at all, despite being billed as "illustrated editions."After much searching, I determined that the Kindle edition billed as "Alice in Wonderland and Through the Looking Glass Illustrated (mobi)," price $1.19, has the original illustrations, includes both the Alice adventures, and is far superior to, for example, the free edition which, as one reviewer points out, isn't worth the price. My five-star recommendation is for this $1.19 Mobi edition ONLY.The original book itself, of course, is always a five-star work, despite the carping of some Amazon reviewers who apparently are unable to grasp the imaginative nature of the story which makes it so much fun, both for adults and for children."Alice in Wonderland" is highly recommended for anyone of any age who has the wit to grasp its delightful verbal imagery and wonderful entertaining qualities. ... Product Description
In 1957, President Dwight D. Eisenhower and Arkansas governor Orval Faubus viewed the desegregation of Little Rock Central High through very different lenses. The president worried that displays of rampant racism tarnished the nation's reputation as a global power and undermined efforts to thwart the spread of communism. The governor sided with his segregationist constituents to guarantee his political survival. For the nine teenagers caught in the middle, Central High was a cauldron of racial tension. These students represented the black and moderate-white community's desire for social justice. The documents collected in this book -- newspaper articles, political cartoons, excerpts from oral histories and memoirs, speeches, photographs, and editorials -- help readers understand how this local, southern conflict became a national and international cause.

The documents selected cover the period 1900-2006. Some have never been published before or are in out-of-print sources. Each reveals something significant about the event and its aftermath, while some offer an unconventional or unexpected perspective on the crisis and the issues it raised. A timeline, a list of key players in the crisis, and a selected, annotated bibliography are included. ... Read more

Product Description
This volume represents the proceedings of a workshop held from 30 July 3 August 1995 at Fairmont Hot Springs, Montana. The workshop was designed to meet the scientific and regulatory need for current information describing ecotoxicology and risk assessment for wetlands. Professionals from government, industry, and academia were selected to participate based on their expertise on the specific topic to be considered. These workshops have provided an excellent forum for stimulation and exchange of ideas on the technical and scientific issues underlying chemical fate and effects in the environment and overall hazard assessments of chemicals in ecosystems. The organizers and participants of this workshop hope that the current proceedings will be as useful as the previous workshop proceedings to scientists, engineers, and decision-makers concerned with maintaining and reducing the loss of the nation's wetland resources. Althought the organization and objectives of this !workshop were similar to some earlier workshops, this is the first workshop to deal primarily with the environmental aspects of an ecosystem rather than with a discrete environmental problem. The proceedings of this workshop is published by the Society of Environmental Toxicology and Chemistry. ... Read more
