A complete coverage, but very complex and bad organized book
In fact this book is a complete coverage of the java security.
It is true, that the subject is quite complex and needs concentration
to be understood perfectly. However I believe this books lacks suitable examples.
In my personal point of view, providing sufficient clear examples in a book,
will help the reader to understand better the subject.
I didn't find this important quality in this book.
If somebody wants to buy a book about Java security, this
means that he/she didn't understand completely the whole subject, just
by reading the API on Sun web site and therefore he/she is looking for
a better source of information that illustrates the subject in a more
convenient and clear way. Unfortunately this book, although complete
in the coverage of the topics, is too far a way to be considered as a clear
and easy understanding book, particularly, for those who are not already
seniors in Java security.

Good book - Needs a complete revision from J2SE 1.4.2
This book is certainly gives good introduction to the fundamentals of Java security. For those new to Java security, there is also brief intro to security of the Java language and platform. The coverage on Java Security APIs are bit narrow and needs lot of update on JCE, JAAS, JSSE etc.
Frankly speaking this book is a bit obsolete and now it's for the authors to come out with a new edition including Java 5 and Java 6 !

Go and buy this book
If you are new to Java, then you shouldn't buy this book.
If you are new to security, then you shouldn't buy this book.
If you prefer loads of examples instead of dense and precise explanations, then you shouldn't buy this book.
If you are looking for a pictorial guide on Java security, then you would probably have to go somewhere else as well.

If you want to know why the APIs look the way they do,
If you take nothing for granted,
If you want an update on latest changes,
If you like things to be drawn in a historical perspective,

In that case you should now pick up your coat, and run to the nearest bookstore to buy this book.

The only thing I found odd in this book is the introduction into security, covering a discussion in general, and an overview of different types of security and access control models. The weird thing is that it introduces a lot of concepts, without actually refering to any of them in the chapters later on.

Required Reading for Java Security
The second edition is the most up-to-date Java security book for j2se v 1.4.x. A must-required reading for Java security platform written by Sun's Java security team. It describes the nuts and bolts in a readable language. Highly recommended.

A very good book about JXTA
According to the title, JXTA in a nutshell teaches how to write JXTA application in a short time.
This book has a coverage of every part of JXTA technology, well explained and clear.
The book has a problem, it was writen in year 2002 and some examples doesn't work!.

Excellent book!
The book explains in very clear language almost every aspect of JXTA P2P programming and gives a good overview of all common JXTA concepts (Pipes, advertisements, discovery, peergroups). You'll learn how to design, implement, test and deploy your JXTA P2P programs. The book does a great job by identifying and providing solutions to common P2P pitfalls. I recommend this book to every programmer out there. If you are serious about writing JXTA programs this is the book to get.

A must read if you want to learn about JXTA
I learned many new things about JXTA reading this book. Overall, I would say that this is the best JXTA coverage I've seen in any book. So, if you're looking for a JXTA book I believe you'll be extremely pleased with this book.

I'd been looking for a JXTA book for some time, but I didn't want a simple quick reference that left me wondering how to code for JXTA applications. I also didn't care to read through a API reference in order to understand what JXTA was all about. This book is something completely and impressively different.

This is a great book for newcomers to JXTA, though I suspect anyone who's developed in Java will be able to follow along quite well. In fact, it's the author's writing style that makes learning JXTA almost effortless. The examples are numerous, easy to follow. The authors frequently tie the concepts together nicely and it's plain to see how the examples may be incorporated into larger applications. I like that approach.

Another thing I especially appreciated was the author's effort to provide useful tips for solving real-world problems. I can hardly imagine buying another JXTA book because I believe I've found most, if not all, of what I need.

The bestbookon JXTA available
JXTA in a Nutshell contains lot of information into not a lot of space. It is the best book on the market for learning JXTA. It is worth reading, even if it is your first JXTA book. The book is fairly complete, with a full reference to the JXTA Java API and the JXTA protocols. There is a great deal of valuable information in the book, and it will serve quite well as a desktop reference.
The book is organized well, leading the user through the JXTA
core concepts. I particularly appreciate the way the book
has been orginized making it easier to find the specific information I want (discovery, pipe, peergroup, etc). In addition, I also liked the extra sections dealing with the
JXTA protocol specification to better understand JXTA.
In all, this book is the only JXTA book I need, but it will doubtless be one that I refer to repeatedly as I develop with the JXTA platform.

Chinese Opera
This book is a wonderful resource! It is exactly what I need for reference for a project involving Chinese headdresses. The pictures offer an extraordinary amount of detail.

Beautiful Portraits
Beautiful photos of mostly up close portrait and stationary shots. I would have liked to see more action, on-stage shots. Most of the ones in this book are rather static. Still worth getting if you want to see how beautiful Beijing Opera is.

Costume design
This is a gorgeous book. The pictures are beautiful... the people are beautiful... the costumes are beautiful... My only wish was that the book was longer with even more photos!
The photos were mostly mid shots and closeups- very basic photography. I guess the point was that the costume and makeup made the shot.... however I wish that Gudnason would have been a little more artistic with her photos. I also wish that there were extreme close ups on the fabrics and head pieces.
i studied Chinese opera in college and planned on giving the book to my teacher for christmas, but it's april and the book still sits on top of my dvd player!So if you are planning to buy this as a gift- also buy a copy for yourself
