5-0 out of 5 stars Best of oriental spiritual practices.
Having gone down the road of seeking "That truth which will set you free", I have tried a dozen or so practices over a period of 50 years, and have some understanding of the subject.None of the other PRACTICES produce the RESULT I'm looking for.The "Teacher/Father", Master of Falun Gong is a living loving enlightened being and his writings confirm many of the things other practices expound, but a lot more too.Falun Gong (also called Falun Dafa) is the one for me, along with a great many other people world wide.

5-0 out of 5 stars Falun Gong for Christians
I come from a Fundamentalist/Charismatic background, but I got interested in Enlightenment because I wanted to go deeper with Christ and the Holy Spirit.I began reading books from the school of Taoism during college many years ago and I just never stopped. Before hardly anyone knew about the Charismatic Renewal or Taoism I thought they would both find a good home in America and become wide spread. This has certainly happened! I think Falun Gong will have the same sucess because it is the best system I have found yet for helping people move deeper with the Holy Spirit (the Tao) and toward real enlightenment, which is the true heart of the mystical path Christ put before us.

Christians will love the depths of this teaching, Pastors especially need to look into this phenomena and interpret it wisely for their parishioners. The similarities between how the Toaist Masters give the Holy Spirit to their disciples and how Christ gave the Holy Spirit to his diciples at Pentecost are too similar to ignore here.

This is the single most important issue facing Christians today, as it is "the Holy Spirit that leads us into all truth", not the Bible. And it is the Holy Spirit that empowers us, not the theologians, the church, or even the Christ. Christians, at the end of this age, supposedly will have "a form of Godliness, but deny the power thereof". Lets not be one of these hypocrites, if we can avoid it.

The Holy Spirit, as we know, spreads gifts and fruits though the body of Christ as it decides. Now we must decide if this "body of Christ" is just your church? your nation, your race, just christians? just jews? or everybody? Perhaps anyone who seeks God is instantly a member of the body of Christ, and then is given a small seed of the Holy Spirit to guide him --but what if this seed grows strong toward enlightenment! What then?

Falun Gong does not counter anything significant in Christianity, the biggest difference is their emphasis on karma (sin) that cannot be forgiven easily by just prayer, but needs to be worked on spiritually with a variety of techniques.Maybe Christians can surpass them on this theological point, we shall see.But consider Christ's teaching about the law where he says: "I come not to abolish the law but to fulfill it, and not one jot or tittle of the law will be changed lest heaven and earth pass away".This teaching is perfectly paralleled in Falun Dafa. Dafians would probably translate the terms "jot and tittle" as "discrete quantums of yin and yang". The problem of sin and salvation remains central to all religious systems. It is central in Falun Dafa also. This is one of the things that raises it above mere exercise.

Beyond this notable difference, there is, of course, a language barrier where, for example: our concept of grace becomes their concept of gong, our concept of "Fruits of the Spirit" are called "Fruit Status" or "Buddha Fruit" by them, their term for "Gifts of the Spirit" translates as "supernatural abilities", and Christ's teachings on forgiveness translates to an amazing teaching on forbearance and how we get our enemies energy when "we turn the other cheek". And then how to use this energy to replace what was stolen or abused. This is the first teaching I've ever heard that makes true pacifism possible and sensible.

Most significant for Christians, however, is the Falun Dafa concept of santification, or the new man, or sainthood.Their term for this is hard to translate and is pronounced "shin shing" ,but spelled xinxing. I would translate this term as the ability to "smile through persecution due to your high level of consciousness" It is in this teaching that the deepest teachings of Christ are brought to life and practiced everyday.Falun Dafa is, indeed, far more than an exercise or health routine.Falun Gong is a simple and straight forward way to yield to the Holy Spirit, Absorb more of the Holy Spirit, Circulate the Holy Spirit internally, understand the Holy Spirit as power, energy and intelligence, radiate the Holy spirit to the world, and remove blockages in the body and mind to the healing and enlightenment of the Holy Spirit. Falan Gong also explains how to live harmoniously with the Holy spirit in much the same way that our Beloved Jeshua taught.

One strange thing, though, is their symbol for the holy Spirit dwelling within. In our religion it is symbolized by a flame, or a glowing heart, etc. but in their system it is symbolized by a falun, a falun is nearly the same symbol as the swastika, which was satanically twisted and perverted by the Nazis in WWII! The symbol of the falun is very ancient in Taoism and it has always represented a spinning energy field. So, I guess we can't expect them to change this just because the Nazis abused their logo for a few decades, The church of Satan does this with Christian symnbols, too.Still, it does take one back the first time you see it. Christians might be more comfortable thinking about a christian cross, or a "tongue of fire", or a small hologram of a galaxy spinning within them.Taoist masters are very flexible and friendly. No need to be fearful, but the teachings should be followed exactly for best results.

So there is a few weeks of learning curve, but your work and cultural adjustments will be well rewarded. Christians may find it unlikely that the ancient schools of Taoism and Buddhism could combine in the 21st century to produce something profoundly aligned with 1st century Christianity! It really is surprising, if you ask me!

I never saw it coming, but since it is here, I'm going to recommend it to Christians who want to go deeper into love, compassion, and forgiveness to find enlightenment. The healing, gifts, fruits, and supernatural powers from God, will then be added unto you.

Is it any wonder the communists are killing these falun dafa saints and selling their livers to alcoholic westerners at $140,000 a pop?

Welcome to the Gong show!

3-0 out of 5 stars why I decide to write this review
I am a native Chinese born in a southeast asian country and nothing to do with CCP. I have been a Zen meditator since I was 13 while I was studying Karate. I was seriously getting into Buddhism about 10 years ago and have been reading both Theraveda(Hinayaha) and Mahayaha texts. About 7 years ago, I was interested in any form of Qi Gong exercises. I was studying Kundalini and many forms of Qi Gong exercises. I noticed that most of the Qi Gong practices are standing up and I had an idea to do those Qi Gong movements while doing my Kundalini meditation in full Lotus sitting posture. I could feel the energy movement within my body.

Around Christmas time of 2000, I was in a chinese bookstore in Las Vegas chinatown and I first saw the Falun Gong (English book translated in China). While flipping through the book, one of the 5 practice is the sitting form which is kind of resembling of what I was doing. I got curious and bought the book and studied it. I don't have problem understanding most of the concepts in the book at the beginning because they are the ideas of buddhism and taoism terms. I did the exercises and I have to admit the exercises really work for health.

I started to read the concepts of Falun Gong with deeper concentration and found many things I didn't see before. If your aim is to have good health and good morals, the book will teach you that. If you have blind faith and follow Falun Gong, I have a word for you. "What you do is what you believe in, and if you believe Falun Gong is good for you, then do it. In order to belive with your heart strongly, you should understand it thoroughly. What I mean throughly is to be able to explain not just using the same terms of what you have read in the Falun Gong book but in your own words. I don't know it's possible within Falun Gong doctorine which forbid you to explain in your own words unless you are using master Li's own words and terms." Even Sakyamuni Buddha said that don't accept everything blindly of what he taught because it's coming out from him. All disciples have to test and see it's truth to them. Accept what is truth to them and discard what is not. If you have developed clear wisdom, you can see what is the ultimate truth and what is not, and do not believe the testimonies of others as truth. Not everyone has the same karma and not everyone see the same. You don't see it doesn't mean that you have to accept of others who see it. How do you know that they are not telling the truth? You can't see and verify it so if you blindly trust their statements, then you are not clarifying the truth. The seeing doesn't imply seeing with your own eyes. In buddhism, the five senses all lead to relative truth, that is there is some truth at the moment of sensing it but it's not the ultimate truth which is a permanent truth such as "Emptiness". You have to experience the truth yourself and the only way to develope the seeing is to develope your own clear wisdom with your mind.

To really understand Falun Gong, read their original translated text when it is first emerged in China (you can find it on their website) and read the new and edited text to see how much the ideas have changed to meet western acceptance. Besides, I have also read the Burmese version and it has sections that you cannot find it in english version. Why is that? I don't know. Could it be the translator's fault? Use your own judgement.

Now, I am moving on to Vajrayana buddhism and practicing highest tantra yoga for health and spiritual practice. I did not continue to practice Falun Gong not because it's a bad practice but because it doesn't totally agree with my buddhism believes. Good luck.

5-0 out of 5 stars Follow Your Heart...
Reading the book, learning the exercises, and practicing, is the only way that you will realy know.Other's comments and judgements can only delude your own.Follow your heart...

5-0 out of 5 stars High level meditation
In my own opinion, this is the most concise and powerful spiritual teaching I have researched. Based on truth, compassion and tolerance, Falun Gong teaches a way to upgrade spiritual levels and gradually clean oneself of harmful habits and tendencies that are all to common in society.

As a university student I've really benefitted and harmonized from these teachings.

Many things discussed are beyond the present knowlegde of empirical science but, I think its best not to limit our natural progression by the confines of what we presently know, of course in the furture we always look bach at previous beliefs as narrow and quite limited in their acceptance of new theories.

I started this practice about a year ago and I'm simply more enthused about the teachings. Some things were hard for me to understand at first but then I started to see the reality of what Li Hongzhi is teaching, which is how to go up not down, promoting Truth, Compassion and Tolerance and doing it for free. These books are free online.

Excerpt: Anita Mui Yim-fong (10 October 1963 - 30 December 2003) was a popular Hong Kong singer and actress. She was also the younger sister of Hong Kong singer, Ann Mui. During her prime years she made major contributions to the cantopop music scene, while receiving numerous awards and honours. She remained an idol throughout most of her career, and was generally regarded as a cantopop diva. Once she held a sell-out concert at Hammersmith, London, England, where she was dubbed the "Madonna of Asia". That title has stayed with her throughout her career, and has been used as a comparison for both Eastern and Western media. In the 1980s the gangtai style of music was revolutionized by her wild dancing and femininity on stage. She was famous for having outrageous costumes and also high powered performances. Her fanbase reached far beyond Hong Kong, and into many parts of Asia including Taiwan, Mainland China, Singapore, Malaysia as well as the overseas market. In the Hong Kong entertainment industry where stars often come and go, Mui was able to remain a major star in the spotlight for 20 years. Her career only came to a stop in 2003 when she was suddenly diagnosed with cervical cancer, dying at the early age of 40. Even so, her music and film legacy continues to live on. Her success reached well beyond that of the entertainment circle with humanitarian work, donations and charities that played a major role in helping society even well into the present day.
