Cute but cartoonish
This book contains many designs of wild animals.They are all full cross stitch only, no back stitching.Instead of backstitching, the author has outlined all features in whole cross stitch with black floss.While the designs are an interesting interpretation of wild animals, the coloring is 'chunky' and not blended or shaded from one color to the next.I was a little dissapointed by the content of the book, as I have seen some of Julie Haslers other books (Needlepoint Cats, etc.)but the designs in this book look as if a coloring book was used to create the designs, thick black lines and all.One could use the designs and alter the colors to look more realistic, or use some of the available overdyed threads.The designs in this book lack depth and shading, and for this reason I was dissapointed in the book's designs.

Old but well worth the price.
This book is a little old faction by the current standards. The charts, while colorful, are hard to read. However for those willing to take the time, there is gold in this book. The author makes generous use of half and quarter stiches to make her subject come alive. This book is not for a beginner or someone who preferes week end projects. How ever, all her subjects are beautifully rendered (especially the cheetah) and well worth the time and work.
