Product Description
Anyone who grew up watching Sesame Street on public television will quickly be able to identify the inspiration for Avenue Q. Most of the characters in the show are puppets, and the set depicts several tenements on a rundown street in New York City. Several characters are parodies of Sesame Street regulars: for example, the roommates Rod and Nicky are based on Bert and Ernie, while Trekkie Monster is based on Cookie Monster. However, these characters are in their twenties and thirties and face adult problems; despite the fuzzy faces, this is not a children's show. After a run lasting more than six years and 2,534 performances, the Broadway production of Avenue Q ranks in the top 25 longest running shows in Broadway history and continues to have productions run worldwide. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars It does not suck to be me!
I can't believe that this book has all the songs from the show!!!!This is the first vocal selections book I've seen that has all the songs. You will definitely enjoy singing/playing through this one!

5-0 out of 5 stars Quite satisfied with my order...
This is quite a comprehensive book of "selections"...I feel that you could almost perform a revue of the show just using this book! (Just kidding, don't try it or they'll throw you in the Pit of Copyright Infringement!) In addition, delivery was prompt and the book was in very fine condition (looked new).

5-0 out of 5 stars Very Full Arrangement
I am most pleased with this book because of the very detailed arrangement. Although the melody is written in the Treble Clef, the music survives arrangement very well. The chords are accurate, and in my case, difficult to play, but all the songs are included. But the most surprising thing about this book is that it includes all the vocal harmonies as well. Currently I am learning how to better play the music (it is NOT for beginners) and I'm sure I will appreciate the score when I can play it more effectively. This was a very good buy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wonderful!
I bought this book because the other Avenue Q book I have was only the "Vocal Selections" and it was missing several songs. This songbook has every song from the Broadway Cast Album, with the exception of "School For Monsters/Money Song (Reprise)" and "There's A Fine Fine Line (Reprise)/What Do You Do With A B.A. In English? (Reprise)". Other than that, every song is here.

This book, unlike my other Vocal Selections book incorporates the melody into the right hand, but it can be easily removed to make room for vocalists if needbe.

The best songs to play/sing in this book are "Schadenfreude", "There's A Fine Fine Line", "It Sucks To Be Me", and "Fantasies Come True". At least, that's what I think. To each his own.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Buy
I like the book I bought. It had all the songs I wanted. It came in a decent amount of time from when I bought it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars When the Beast is Unlashed!
Robert Louis Stevenson (1850 - 1894) was a remarkable author from the Victorian Era. He has left us at least two masterpieces: "The Treasure Island" (1883) and "The Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde" (1886) and some other good novels such as "The Black Arrow" (1888).
The present book is one of various Spanish translations available.

It is amazing how writers and poets are able, thru intuition, to anticipate events or discoveries. When this book was first published, Sigmund Freud was studying with Charcot and not so many years later will produce his theoretic corpus of human psyche. At some points the present story touches Freud's conceptualizations.

Dr. Jekyll suspect evil burdens every human soul, being an obstacle in its way to goodness. So he investigates and produces a drug that "liberates" the evil spirit and doing so he intend to be relived of it.
But Evil starts to grow each time more powerful and Mr. Hyde end cornering Dr. Jekyll into impotence and fear.

This story has captivated the public's imagination for more than a hundred years. Movies, comics and theater pieces had evolved from it. His tortured dual character is now a well known icon as Stoker's Dracula or Mary Shelley's Frankenstein.
Even if you know more or less the story and its ending, reading this very short book is a powerful adventure.
A Classic you shouldn't let passes by unheeded!

Product Description
Part of the World is a fugue in both a musical and psychological sense. It is a canonical juggernaut of lyrical language ever dissolving, devolving, shifting, then reconstituting itself into a new knowledge of reality. This language comes straight from a compulsive mind in a Quixotic state ceaselessly harping on the everyday perturbations and peculiarities of our humdrum lives our cars, apartments, health, finances. But if you relax your focus as if staring at some sort of holographic fractal, with each part containing the whole, the superficial meaning is purged, layer by layer, peeling back and revealing the subtext of what the mind is capable of under the burden of trauma and accountability. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars A Superb Debut
Very droll, very flat affect and very musical in its rhythms and subtly varying repetitions. It's always great to come across a young writer who's talent is so much to one's personal taste that one vows to read, thenceforth, whatever of his makes it into print. Robert Lopez is definitely in that catagory for me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Wow! A truly great read.
Wow! A truly great read.

This stunning book succeeds on many levels--as an engrossing story about the ill-fated yet near emotionless narrator, a study of memory and the tricks the mind plays,--I don't even know where to begin the praise. A jigsaw-like story with the complete puzzle picture kept tantalizingly just beyond the reader's reach, the book throws the reader into the daily chronicles of Lopez's narrator's life. Chronicles propelled by the unreliable mind of the narrator -- a man unable to keep memories straight.

Part Of The World is a true tribute to the art of juggling. The non-linear movement of time and the constantly changing form of the narrator's memories create a delicate balancing act, which would've collapsed in the hands of a less talented writer. Lopez never loses track of his twisting narrative and ever changing memories, keeping all his balls in the air. It's a story you're not likely to forget and one that you will undoubtedly want to read again.

Although the book's "ending" does not provide a tidy little package complete with definitive answers, it packs an amazing pop when it does come, and will have you turning back to page 1 to read the book again with a wholly new perspective.

5-0 out of 5 stars Hysterical Hysteria
Part of the World is full of trickery and dark humor.Manic, mindbinding, musical--and always masterful.

5-0 out of 5 stars publishers synopsis and blurbs

It is a canonical juggernaut of lyrical language--ever dissolving, devolving, shifting, then reconstituting itself into a new knowledge of reality. This language comes straight from a compulsive mind in a Quixotic state--ceaselessly harping on the everyday perturbations and peculiarities of our humdrum lives--our cars, apartments, health, finances. "Robert Lopez has written a darkly hilarious exploration of the trickery of memory, the unreliability of personal history, and the strangeness, even uncanniness, of our daily transactions. As we follow Lopez's hapless narrator about the business of trying to navigate his homely part of the world, we are made to reconsider our own well-mapped relations, the unhygienic corners of our homes."
--Dawn Raffel

"Reading Part of the World by Robert Lopez felt to me like standing in front of one of those marvelous, mind-bending exhibits at the Museum of Jurassic Technology that seem at first glance to be doing exactly nothing and at second glance to be dissolving and reconstituting reality as we thought we knew it. Literary pleasures like this are all too uncommon."
--Laird Hunt

"The prose found in Robert Lopez's new novel, Part of the World, is as flat as this piece of paper but as deep as the deepest well. The world this world is a part of is an affectless poetics planet caught in the black-hole gravity of a Stephen Dixon-esque free-falling narrative sink. Stranger than The Stranger, it is a relentless, droll, blinkless, book."
