Not had time to read the book yet but the parts I have looked at already seem very informative and helpful.

4-0 out of 5 stars The Power is Within You
I am now reading this book for the third time. Every time I read it, I get something else from it.It is very uplifting. Louise Hay's words make you feel good about yourself. You feel more powerful in your own environment. I do not believe that people are Divine in any way, so I skip over that part. But the rest of the book is very useful. It always makes me smile inside to read it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Be Tranquil With Louise
This is a wonderful CD to use if you're looking for a positive approach to coping with and overcoming fears.Louise has a gentle yet strong voice which offers support and compassion to those who are experiencing fear, no matter what the situation is.

I found the CD to be extremely helpful with some major anxieties I have been through lately. There were times I was alone in my apartment and feeling quite fearful and scared, to the point where I couldn't fall asleep. This CD would help calm me, and I was able to turn a lot of the damaging, negative self-talk around to positive affirmations of peace and tranquility. The music is beautiful, and Louise is like a very close friend who is there to guide you to safety. After playing the CD two times in a row, I would find myself drifting off to sleep and waking up with it still playing in the morning.

The other nice thing about using the CD is that I kept a lot of the positive affirmations in my mind throughout the following day.

Highly recommended for those dealing with chronic anxiety.

5-0 out of 5 stars Helps a lot
Louise Hay's message in this subliminal cd is very comforting and soothing for those afflicted with panic and fear.I listened to it at night, at bedtime and lulled myself to sleep.I noticed feeling much better in the days to come.

3-0 out of 5 stars Interesting
Many people like Ms. Haye. This book is interesting..but is new age to me. You might like it.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of the Best Positive Affirmations
I listen to this CD at least once a week, especially when old issues come up. It's always astounding to me how the media and even friends and family can perpetuate the Fear Factor, but like Louise would probably say, When an issue arises, it's there to be released. Thought is power and we can create a safe place in the world by changing our thoughts (which then change our actions). We can create our world. We are safe, secure and protected by love at all times. Blessed be!

5-0 out of 5 stars THE PERFECT GIFT!:-)
As a Reiki healer and a huge Doreen Virtue and Abraham-Hicks fan, this gorgeous keep-sake-box set is the perfect gift for those who may not relate to the basic new age inspirations for positive and healthy living (and is perfect for those who do, too!).The CD itself is worth the price of the entire set.The booklet is an easy read, but is also thorough and offers the reader much healing. The affirmation cards are so gorgeous and complete, not only do you want to put them around your home as decoration, the affirmations are perfect.Included is also an adorable magnetic frame with positive magnetic words to create your own personal affirmations (which my two young sons LOVE!). Enjoy this one and share it with others as the world heals one person at a time!:-)

4-0 out of 5 stars I like it
I buy this as a gift for myself. I start working with the affirmation cards for months. I start to repeating every affirmation like four times for one hour. At first seems like nothing was happening but with practice, they start to become more true to me. Then when I see the progress I start to hear the cd every night. No matter if I fall asleep I continued doing that. When I knew that the ideas on the cd were clear to me, I start meditating every morning and buy the self steem and self worth affirmation cd by Louise Hay, and start to listen it at bed time. I now get the Shakti Gwain book Creative Visualization, and its like a next step to a better me. I read the book in this kit and it was good too. Now I have to used the magnet for the affirmations to use the hole kit. In general It is a good gift for anyone who wants a better way of thinking and feel and someone in the mood to work for it. I like this and I think is good for a gift no matter if it is for a friend or for yourself.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Affirmations Kit

1-0 out of 5 stars FALSE IMMORAL PLATITUDES
There's much inspirational and audio on AMAZON. This "Christian" recording is NOT one of them. WHEW!

LET'S GET REAL about basic morality. SOME (not all) of this recording represents moral and intellectual suicide:

For example: "I affirm that each person in our government is loving, honest, honorable and is truly working for the betterment of all people." Tell this to people of my generation who "served" in Viet Nam (another war based on governmental lies). Tell this to the ordinary people of Iraq. Tell this to the families of over 4,000 families whose children were killed in Iraq. Tell this to the 40,000 or so physically and mentally disabled American soldiers who suffered the consequences of George Bush's illegal and immoral invasion of Iraq based on GOVERNMETAL fraud and lies. Tell this to the hundreds of thousands of Iraq people driven from their homes or killed as a direct consequences of Dick and George's criminal conduct. GIVE ME A BREAK ! I've just thrown away the recording. TOO BAD.

I *love* these cards. I keep them in my car so that I can read them before I go in to work, or whenever I'm having "crazy" moments in my head. Louise Hay writes such gentle, optimistic, self-affirming statements that teach love and healing toward oneself and the world.I initially saw these cards at the spa one day before my massage, and they lifted my spirits so much I had to order some for myself, and have since ordered them for friends as well. Wonderful purchase.I've used them for a couple of years and continue to use them still.

Product Description

"Here is the most telling fact: you wish to possess me.

Here is another fact: I loved you and let you think you could."

When Irene America discovers that her husband, Gil, has been reading her diary, she begins a secret Blue Notebook, stashed securely in a safe-deposit box. There she records the truth about her life and her marriage, while turning her Red Diary—hidden where Gil will find it—into a manipulative farce. Alternating between these two records, complemented by unflinching third-person narration, Shadow Tag is an eerily gripping read.

When the novel opens, Irene is resuming work on her doctoral thesis about George Catlin, the nineteenth-century painter whose Native American subjects often regarded his portraits with suspicious wonder. Gil, who gained notoriety as an artist through his emotionally revealing portraits of his wife—work that is adoring, sensual, and humiliating, even shocking—realizes that his fear of losing Irene may force him to create the defining work of his career.

Meanwhile, Irene and Gil fight to keep up appearances for their three children: fourteen-year-old genius Florian, who escapes his family's unraveling with joints and a stolen bottle of wine; Riel, their only daughter, an eleven-year-old feverishly planning to preserve her family, no matter what disaster strikes; and sweet kindergartener Stoney, who was born, his parents come to realize, at the beginning of the end.

As her home increasingly becomes a place of violence and secrets, and she drifts into alcoholism, Irene moves to end her marriage. But her attachment to Gil is filled with shadowy need and delicious ironies. In brilliantly controlled prose, Shadow Tag fearlessly explores the complex nature of love, the fluid boundaries of identity, and one family's struggle for survival and redemption.

3-0 out of 5 stars Painful reading, ugly characters, surprise ending brings it all together
I was ready to stop reading this book with only 50 pages to go. Irene and Gil were so ugly to each other and I had no sympathy for them. The worst is what they were putting their children through. They were utterly selfish adults with children as an audience. This being said, the writing was tight, though, and I was amazed at how with so little words the characters were so gut-wrenchingly portrayed. I won't give away the ending, but it brings everything together, and I started re-reading the book with a fresh perspective. Louise Erdrich is my favorite author, and this book seemed so totally out of character for her - until the end. It was a relief to finally read, in the last section, her calm and gentle writing again. Three stars because it was personally difficult for me to read this book, however, she remains a master writer.

5-0 out of 5 stars Shadow Tag
Ok, I'm not finished with the book, but I think this is one of Erdrich's best. The plot is tight and well-developed.Her characters are realistic, but mythical too.

4-0 out of 5 stars A quick read, but not an easy one.
The latest from Louise Erdrich is a difficult book to read since it is about the disintegration of a marriage, the impact on all members of the family and the ugliness of behavior that the situation can provoke. A quick read, but not an easy one.

4-0 out of 5 stars Shadow Tag
This novel is good; however, it is hard to get into. It isn't an easy read.I blamed it on the translation to English. Book was on Oprah's list of 10 best for summer reading.

4-0 out of 5 stars A woman, dissembled
Shadow Tag is remarkable, not only for its razor-tight pacing and unusual structure.Irene finds herself caught in a life that seems unliveable.Although she helped to create these confines, she sees no ability to change them. She is tied to Gil, who feels entitled to possess her and who uses violent threats to tell her so.He also threatens to deprive her of her beloved children, if she leaves. And Irene has just discovered how abusively Gil betrayed her trust, by infusing his paintings of her naked body - offered freely as his model - with violence and evil.Irene concludes she has no power.Irene has lost herself.

I love Irene.I wish Irene had understood that she was loved by God, no matter how ugly her life appeared, no matter how ashamed she was.I wish Irene had known that God would have given her the strength to try to change her life. This does not mean she could have ensured any particular outcome, nor even become "safe" in the physical world. But she would not have been alone. She was never alone.

Gil hurt, and some of Irene's acts were wrong and cruel. But Gil's primary pain was his family's hatred, which flowed directly from his own behavior.Gil committed violence against his family when he sought to force his love on them, when he sought to control their lives and hearts and reactions to his offerings.Gil committed violence against his family when he responded with anger rather than kindness, to their human failings.People do not love those who commit violence against them.Gil, too, needed God.Perhaps if Gil had understood that God saw him, and knew him, and loved him, then Gil could have offered true love to his family. And perhaps then, they would have lovedhim back. ... The keys to overweight are liver toxicity, waterlogged tissues, fear of eating fat, excess insulin, and stress, asserts nutritionist Ann Louise Gittleman. Her Fat Flush Plan addresses these problems with a targeted diet.

The Fat Flush Plan, filled with nutritional analysis and detailed explanations, is not a quick read. Despite Gittleman's assertion that the plan is "as easy as 1-2-3," it is quite regimented. No white flour, white sugar, margarine, vegetable shortening, artificial sweeteners, or caffeine. The diet emphasizes essential oils (e.g., flaxseed and GLA), protein (eight ounces or more, plus two eggs a day), vegetables, thermogenic spices (e.g., ginger and cayenne), water, and diuretic beverages (eight glasses/day of diluted, unsweetened cranberry juice). In its first two-week phase, the plan is a rigid, low calorie (1,100-1,200 calories/day), low-carb (no grains or starchy vegetables) diet. Phase two lets you increase your calories to 1,500 and add two "friendly carbs." Phase three, the "lifestyle program," moderately adds more dairy, carbs, and calories. Gittleman promotes walking and recommends strength training in phase three.

The book includes 41 recipes such as Grilled Lamb Chops with Cinnamon and Coriander, Breakfast Egg Fu Yung, and Cumin Sautéed Scallops. The Fat Flush Plan is recommended for dieters willing to commit to a strict plan for weight loss. --Joan Price ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Surprised people saying its so simple.Good, not simple.
Hello,
I was really surprised by all the 5 stars this diet is receiving.First let me say, I am following the diet and am losing (I've lost 7lbs in the first week--woo-hoo!).However, I'm not working right now, and I must say this diet is a full-time job in itself!I'm in phase one, one week completed. The lunches are the most difficult part.My husband is on the diet too, and I have to cook him lunches so that he can stay on plan. There are no simple sandwiches or wraps (no carbs first two weeks, with exception mainly of fruit).Otherwise he'd be eating salad with cold chicken on top everyday (if that happened, he wouldn't be on this diet very long).

Plus, expect to get at least one headache from the diet and just have a general lack of energy in the beginning of the diet.So I want this review to be realistic. I also don't follow all the millions of supplements she suggest taking.I don't want to take that many pills, nor do I have the money to buy them all.So those are the downsides.

On the upside (and why I'm following the plan), I like how she explains how our bodies work and what causes our weight problems (insulin for example).I like that the plan incorporates fruit even in the most strictest phase of the diet (this is the reason I couldn't stick to the South Beach diet).I like how she tries to get you to eat natural, whole foods at every meal. You do have to have a lot of willpower on this diet though to carry through the first and second phases of this diet.I feel that if you have major motivation to start a new diet, this may be right for you.

5-0 out of 5 stars Changed my life, Changed my mental awareness, and Changed my tastebuds
I've been thinking of leaving a review since I started the plan about 4 weeks ago, because in the matter of 2 days I was waking up with mental clarity that I hadn't experienced since being a kid. I love, love, love this plan and it changed my life for the good. I don't even consider this a diet, but more so a way of life. I'm 5 weeks into the plan and I have never felt better. I've tried everything from the Atkins, the South beach, low-carb, the cayenne pepper and honey fast...I've done it all...Only to end up disappointed and back where I'd begun.

Here's what occurred for me on the plan. I went to my local Trader Joes and got the supplements, stacked up on fish and veggies and started the plan. The cocktail wasn't something I looked forward to, but after about a month on the plan I am still enjoying the cocktail and I drink it every day. I didn't do the lemon and hot water, but I took Milk Thistle which is great for liver cleansing as well. I followed the plan to the letter except for two things...I stayed with drinking coffee, and it's taking me about 4 weeks to finally give it up, so today I'm 5 days off the caffeine and I feel great. Every night I had a glass of red wine...My great, great grandmother drank a glass of wine every night and lived till she was 112, so I'm a little superstitious when it comes to red wine. I did boot camp classes at the gym and I power walked on days I didn't for a total of 4 days of working out. I found myself loving the cran-water too...now I actually can't stand it because I was on it longer than the plan recommended; I have one bottle left and cannot finish it. All in all, the cran water works like gold. in terms of my mental clarity, I really got clear about my purpose in life and how what I put in my body affects my brain, so I've been very conscious of what helps me and what doesn't. I was never a person who ate unhealthy, but sometimes could go overboard eating chocolate and ice cream and McD's apple pies, now I can't even eat chocolate, sometimes I'll have the apple pies as a treat and ice cream when I'm PMS'ing.

The result is I can fit into a size 6 when before I was on the verge of a size 10, I went to fashion's night out and midway through the night my vintage dress ripped in the back, I knew it was time to lose weight because I could not fit any of my cute clothing. I tried that same dress on this past weekend and it's so much room I couldn't believe it. I have started back Bikram yoga which has helped in slimming me down a lot as well, people at my job even wants to do the Fat Flush so I've made a packet of the pages from the book to give them and they are seeing results as well. I just can't believe everything that has happened to me from doing this plan. The bags under my eyes are gone, my hair is so healthy it's ridiculous, the cellulite on my butt and thighs has disappeared, my feet has even gotten smaller, this I cannot believe...the fat on my stomach is barely there, and I can wear my high end clothing again. I am so happy I did the Fat Flush, it has helped me and I'm helping people in my life do it as well. I am not saying it's easy, what I'm saying is if you stick with it, you will see results and you will love them so much that you will not go back to being the same person anymore.

Thank you Ann Louise Gittleman, you've changed my life!!!

Product Description

How many electronic innovations have you dialed, watched, surfed, charged, listed to, booted up, commuted on, cooked with, and plugged in today?

Consider your typical day: If you’re like most people, it probably starts in front of your coffee maker and toaster, ends as you set the alarm on your cell phone, and involves no end of computers and gadgets, televisions and microwaves in between.

We’re being zapped: Today 84 percent of Americans own a cell phone, 89 million of us watch TV beamed in by satellite, and we can’t sip a cup of coffee at our local cafÉ without being exposed to Wi-Fi. The very electronic innovations that have changed our lives are also exposing us, in ways big and small, to an unprecedented number of electromagnetic fields. Invisible pollution surrounds us twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, interrupting our bodies’ natural flow of energy. And for some, that pollution has reached the point of toxicity, causing fatigue, irritability, weakness, and even illness.

But we don’t have to simply surrender. Ann Louise Gittleman brings forth the latest research into electromagnetic fields to create this groundbreaking guide for every citizen of the wireless age. 5-0 out of 5 stars An eyeopener and Inspirational on many levels
As a person that has worked within the world of natural medicine for more that 20 years and a licensed holistic health provider, I found this book to be thought provoking and eye opening. The most important part of the book is that Dr. Ann Louise Gittleman makes the information very "user friendly" without overwhelming the reader with a lot of scientific data which may be intimidating. She provides very useful and real solutions to epic problem of EMF waves and dirty electricity which are fast becoming thePink elephant in the room" that nobody wants to deal with or talk about. She exposes these "Inconvenient Truths" in a way that even the nah sayers will have a hard time denying.
The message that she is brings to light and forefront of our consciousness is revolutionary and I feel is the next big frontier in preventative medicine and preserving the health of our future generations. In my opinion every parent on the planet should be reading this book and understanding the grave importance of how these EMF waves are effecting our children. If you are a person who cares about thequality food you eat, the air you breathe, or the water you drink, then you must take your concern to the next level and educate yourself about the toxic emf pollution that is making us sick. This book is a must read and I will be suggesting to all my clients.

4-0 out of 5 stars This is a wireless wake-up call we need to hear
Dr Gittleman's groundbreaking book brings this issue to people who need to hear many voices calling out for caution. It is an easy read and provides waysto cut risks of electro-pollution. I am not a technical expert but many of the world's leading authorities contributed to my book, Wireless Radiation Rescue. Their evidence of adverse biological effects from cell phone radiation is clear.

As a prominent pioneer in the field of nutrition and weight loss, I am sure Dr Gittleman is quite used to naysayers. However, I must comment on the 'fear-mongering' review, by the co-editor of the Information Age Dictionary. He is right that we have adapted to, "naturally occurring electromagnetic fields since time immemorial."

The scientific evidence does not support, however, the view that we have adapted to this very different, 'non-natural' form of wireless radiation - the jagged, pulsed wave used in mobile communication.

He also advises us that, "... studies done on cellphone exposure in the 1980s and 1990s no longer hold relevant data since the technology of the phones are now so totally different than they were."

Same goes for the safety regulations!

The current FCC exposure limits have not been updated since they were set in 1997, and these are still governing the marketplace.

The environmental health physician, Dr David Carpenter made this hard-hitting remark,"Government regulations are just plain wrong."

You should also know they only tested the effects on the brain of a 200 lb male. Remember this when you allow your teen or child to use a mobile phone. More details on our website www.radiationrescue.org

Balanced view? Most of the 'inconclusive' studies were funded by the massively powerful wireless industry, and this influence is also seen in many media outlets. This is why we need strong voices like Dr. Gittleman's.

1-0 out of 5 stars Return of the Fear Mongers
Nothing sells better than fear, whether it's the type you see on the silver screen, your TV, or in the pages of books like "Zapped". Ms. Gittleman visits an issue that has been around for at least the past 30 years or so...the effects of electromagnetic fields on human health. Hardly "cutting edge" stuff as suggested by other reviewers. But good grist for the mill of those who fear that which they do not understand.

While anyone who has worked with radio-frequency transmitters understands, prudence is appropriate. High-energy electromagnetic fields have demonstrable effects on humans and should be avoided. So too should excess exposure to chemicals, many of which we encounter in our daily lives and use, safely, in small quantities and with limited exposure. But the truth is that humans have been exposed to naturally occurring electromagnetic fields since time immemorial. Every spark, be it from your hand to the door knob or from a cloud to the earth produces a broad spectrum of EMF energy. Our bodies, fortunately, developed to accommodate such exposure.

Ms. Gittleman's book clearly wasn't reviewed first by competent technical people for if it had it would not have so many technical errors. A fair copy editor would have insisted that studies presented as definitive be balanced by those that show a totally different result. Some acknowledgement should have been made that studies done on cellphone exposure in the 1980s and 1990s no longer hold relevant data since the technology of the phones are now so totally different than they were, notably because of the reduced amount of radio-frequency energy they need transmit to maintain contact with cell towers.

If you're curious about the effects of exposure to electromagnetic fields I would suggest seeking more accurate information elsewhere. While she might be knowledgeable about nutrition, Ms. Gittleman seems out of her ken when it comes to electromagnetic fields.

5-0 out of 5 stars Ann Louise Gittleman does it again!
I have been into health & nutrition for over 35 years and have been a big fan of Ann Louise Gittleman's books. She is always on the leading edge of new information that supports health & wellness in this day and age. I am so thankful for this latest information on how we can coexist with all of the electronic pollution we are surrounded by. Zapped is a 'must read' for all since electronic pollution affects all of us and it is not going away any time soon!

5-0 out of 5 stars So Helpful!
Dr. Ann Louise's new book is full of great information about the dangers of EMFs, but she also gives easy solutions to keep us safe without changing our electronically charged lifestyles. This is a real issue and I'm glad someone of such knowledge is addressing it! ... Read more

Amazon.com Review
Louise Erdrich's The Master Butchers Singing Club is a powerfully told story of love, death, redemption, and resurrection. After German soldier Fidelis Waldvogel returns home from World War I to marry his best friend's pregnant widow, he packs up his father's butcher knives and sets sail for America. He settles in Argus, North Dakota, where he sets up a meat shop with his wife Eva, who quickly befriends the struggling yet resourceful Delphine Watzka. Delphine, who runs a vaudeville show with her balancing partner Cyprian Lazarre, has returned home to Argus to care for her alcoholic father. While most of this emotionally rich novel focuses on the changing landscape of small-town life as seen through Delphine and Fidelis's eyes, Erdrich does a masterful job of illuminating hidden dramas through her secondary characters.Erdrich's portrayal of these various townsfolk, including members of the Master Butchers Singing Club, truly shows off her storytelling talent. Her ability to infuse each character with a distinct and multifaceted personality makes this novel an intimate and thought-provoking adventure. --Gisele Toueg ... 1-0 out of 5 stars The Master Butcher's Singing Club
I got half-way through this book and put it down. It wasn't rewarding to that point, and I figured there are too many other, better books to spend my time with.

The book started out strong but just lost its way. Characters are flat, dialogue pointless and it really didn't have much to do with the singing club. Even the one passage worth reading, about the morphine, needs more development.

I'm going to try reading another of Louise Erdrich's books, but this one isn't worth picking up.

1-0 out of 5 stars Boring, sloppy.. a waste of time
As much has already been written about the Master Butchers Singing Club this review is going to be very short. In holding with the previous critques, I agree that there are way too many overburdened plotlines carelessly jumbled together, a misleading title and all in all too much pathos. In the end I skipped through the pages, eager to wrap the story up! What I found extremely unnerving, too, was that Erdrich lets her German characters interject a few remarks here and there in their mother tongue. Only, why is it that their German is so unnatural, stiff and not once orthographically correct ("Wir haben verheiraten")? Maybe it is a question of cultural assimilation or, and this seems to be more like it, Erdrich just didn't take the time to go over the pages of her book once more after finishing (neither did her editors) and simply didn't bother to render an authentic novel!

5-0 out of 5 stars Life in Argus, North Dakota
I bought this book a long time ago intending to read it.Finally I got the chance and was glad I did.The book takes place in a small town in North Dakota plus a short time in Germany. The story tells about immigrants, Indians, metis and others who live in this little remote city if it can be called that. The time is shortly after World War I, supposedly the war to end all warsand ends just after the end of World War II.

Fidelis Waldvogel comes home after the war.His best friend has been killed.Everyone is poor, hungry and without hope.He knows he must leave his native land.To America he comes intending to become a butcher because this is his trade and he's a good one.He lands in Argus, North Dakota where he opens his store. He is fussy about the meat he uses, immaculate about his shop and so he prospers. He sends for his wife, Eva, and her son.Three more boys are born.Eva is a wonderful wife, mother, good cook, good housekeeper, good gardener, loves nature, loves life and dies too young.

Good hearted, hard working Delphine is the only child of the town drunk. She returns to town because she is worried about her father. Roy has embarrassed her many more times than she can count, but she loves him and knows that he loves her. He has brought his daughter up by himself, her mother has disappeared or died she doesn't know.He will not talk of her mother, possibly because it is too painful to speak of. There are a few blurry pictures in their small home.So the mother will always be a mystery to her daughter.Delphine has been touring the states with her partner Cyprian, a handsome Metis, whom she loves but he cannot love her because he is gay.The couple have an acrobatic act in which Cyprian stars.Cyprian is a talented acrobat, Delphine is just his partner.

Delphine gets a job at Fidelis's butcher shop. She and Eva become close friendsand se and marries Fidelis upon Eva's death because she can't marry Cyprian. There are many quirky, interesting and likeable characters.Roy even tries to do right by his daughter but falls into drininkg again and again. But he tries to quit.

There is hateful Tante, Fidelis' sister who follows him to America and dislikes this country. She dislikes both of Fidelis's wives and tries to take over his home when Eva dies. She is not a good cook or housekeeper. She stays in her Lutheran group and church, refuses to acclimate to the United States and wants to return to Germany. She gets her wish and takes Fidelis' two younger sons, twins, to Germany to be brought up as proper Germans.

Delphine's best friend, lovely Clarisse, works in a funeral home owned by her family. This is Clarisse's profession and she's good at it.But she gets into trouble, runs out of town just ahead of the police. She is never found.

This book is a good read, all the characters are fun, even hateful Tante.I recommend this book so get in touch with life in Argus, North Dakota.

3-0 out of 5 stars Would've liked more detail
When I was about half-way through this book, I really thought I'd be rating it five stars. I loved the depth of the characters. It's something that isn't seen in a lot of books, but Delphine and Cyprian seemed so human and poignant. When I first started the book, I admit, I was disappointed that I didn't get to see more of Fidelis and Eva's early relationship, but I excused it, telling myself that the story wasn't about how they came into each other's lives.

Somewhere beyond the halfway point, however, I began feeling cheated. I felt that every event which I'd begun to anticipate because the author was building up the anticipation, simply didn't pay off. I'd be awaiting something, and then suddenly months had gone by. And then years. The latter half of the book felt as if it was just fast-forwarded, and I got a few glimpses of various events that frankly weren't as meaningful to me as those I didn't get to see. I still feel it needs a high rating for how engrossing I initially found it and how real the characters were, but as a story, it was disappointing.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Butcher is a Good Man
The Master Butchers Singing Club (P.S.)
The Butcher in this story by Louise Erdrich is a highly trained butcher by profession, with a background in the German military as well, who traveled to the US after the war, carrying sausages and his set of knives, and built a new business, a family and a community of friends in the US.Hisstory is told by his wife and it is a rich story of the immigrant community, with characters I feel glad to have known. ... 2-0 out of 5 stars I wanted to like this - I love Louise!
This is a guided meditation.I have given it several listenings and it just hasn't been very effective for me.The biggest problem I have is that you are asked to come up with 5 people you are angry at.I can come up w/maybe one or two but five!and that takes up a huge part of the mediatation, visualizing each person.

I am very good at guided visualizations and I do them regularly with great success. This was just too complicated and I abandoned it.

I feel bad about giving this cd only 2 stars.I absolutely love Louise Hay and everything she's created.

5-0 out of 5 stars An amazing transformative tool!
This CD has brought me incredible release. It seems to help me go deep into early childhood trauma and experience real profound healing.I feel parts of my body I didn't feel before, especially my organs. It's actually fun and pleasurable.I feel different, lighter, more connected. It's only 34 minutes long but that's all you need.I felt results immediately.

1-0 out of 5 stars horrible!
This was a horrible visualization for me.Not only did it state that getting physical was an ok way to express anger (I'm assuming she meant just in the visualization), but you actually destroy the people you are angry at.Maybe that's one form of releasing anger, but it isn't for me at all!I guess I'm just not angry enough at anyone to want to blow them away.Strange juxtaposition between the peaceful, safe room you are visualizing and the energy that you focus on basically putting that person out of existence.Extremely negative for me.

2-0 out of 5 stars Make sure you are angry at five or more people.
I didn't expect this kind of a result, but throughout the tape, I couldn't visualize a single person I was angry at.And she says you can release anger at not only one but FIVE people!
What am I supposed to do?
I just kept seeing an empty room with crystals and that was actually nice.I suppose it is good to know that I am not angry at anyone at the moment.

I'm giving two stars for good relaxing music and very nice voice of Louise L. Hay.

Theoretically, I understand that it works for people who are consciously or subconsciously angry, but it didn't do wonders to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Good
I grew up in a family where a lot of anger was expressed and this audio was hepful in releasing it. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book...but don't buy the kindle version!
I did the Fat Flush a few years ago, with great results, and was going to purchase the original book again when I came across this new version.I LOVE the changes...both the vegetarian options which weren't included at all in the original fat flush, and the seasonal changes in the diet sound great!Plus there is more flexibility and small allowances that make all the difference.

The only negative, which I am not accounting for in my rating, is that this book simply should be a BOOK, not an ebook for Kindle. There are many references to page numbers, and the need to flip back and forth.Plus the great vendors on Amazon sell the hardcover cheaper than the kindle version!

5-0 out of 5 stars great lifestyle diet
This diet brings RESULTS! Physically you see pounds lost and mentally you feel better. When you read this book, commit to taking the advice and making it a part of the rest of your life's eating habits. Good Stuff!

5-0 out of 5 stars Gittleman's Best
I love this book.It presents a whole body plan for the whole year.I do pretty well on the Fat Flush Plan because I feel like I'm always eating healthy and Ann Louise actually uses some research and science for her plan. Now with this book there are realistic allowances for taste changes during the year. It's easy to eat lots of salad during the summer but once it gets cold eating salads all the time is unrealistic for me.

I also like her inclusion of Bach Flower Remedies and aromatherapy for each season and quick yoga exercises.

I'm a fan of Ann Louise Gittleman, this book feels like it was written for me and I was thrilled when I noticed that it had been autographed.

3-0 out of 5 stars Diet book review
Well, another diet book purchase that didn't prove too successful.I appears that the only way I am going to get rid of this fat is to have it nipped, cut, and sucked out.I live in a small town and I can't afford to run around to the big city to get items to make the diet work.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but needs addition resources in the book
I rated this book a 3.5, for most of the information is good.So instead of reiterating what was good, I have expressed items that can really make or break you from following this diet.

The problems with this book are as follows:

1.There are no substitutes to the some of the more expensive products she recommends. For examples:Flora-key, Fat Flush whey, etc.Only directs you to her distributor "Unikey"
-Have to do a lot of research and digging to get some alternatives:Flora-key use Jarro-Dophilus® + FOS Powder (12 billion) but cut dosage in 1/2.For the whey use Jarrow Whey Protein Vanilla
Other people have suggestions??
2.It requires a BIG food budget. To get you through the first week, expect to pay around 300 if you don't have any of the supplements (whey, flax oil, probotics, cranberry juice)It does get a little cheaper for the rest of the month, but as soon as you run out of the supplements... $$$
3.It requires a LOT of time for food preparation.I noticed this was probably a big issue with her first book, since she now does "left over" days.Don't be surprised if you spend 1 - 2 hours a night to prep food for the next day (assuming you work during the day).
4.Items that don't have set recipes are very hard to follow and require a LOT of interpolation. How to cook the food, how much to serve, etc.
5.No good gauge on how much food to buy.Because of number 4, you don't know if you need to buy one carrot vs 5lbs of carrots.Based on this there isn't really a shopping list for the 14-day(s) meal plans that provides.Making it VERY time consuming to go through the book and write/type down the shopping list.

In wrap up, unless you are willing to sacrifice time and money, you may want to look at another option. ... Read more

The unsolved murder of a farm family still haunts the white small town of Pluto, North Dakota, generations after the vengeance exacted and the distortions of fact transformed the lives of Ojibwe living on the nearby reservation.

Part Ojibwe, part white, Evelina Harp is an ambitious young girl prone to falling hopelessly in love. Mooshum, Evelina's grandfather, is a repository of family and tribal history with an all-too-intimate knowledge of the violent past. And Judge Antone Bazil Coutts, who bears witness, understands the weight of historical injustice better than anyone. Through the distinct and winning voices of three unforgettable narrators, the collective stories of two interwoven communities ultimately come together to reveal a final wrenching truth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome read!
I heard an interview of Louise Erdrich by Bill Moyers and he was so enamored of her work that I had to buy "The Plague of Doves" and "Shadow Tag."I am almost through with "Doves" and I am just astounded at the richness of her writing. Each time I pick up this book I am transported to North Dakota, and the lives of her characters - the present and past -- and the rich history of the Ojibwe and the early settlers who came and intertwined their lives with the native people.Incredible characters, incredible stories.A must read!

3-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful, but lacking
The Washington Post, Chicago Tribune, San Francisco Chronicle, and Christian Science Monitor named Louise Erdrich's The Plague of Doves a best book of the year. Narrated by several individuals, her novel spans the history of Pluto, North Dakota and an adjacent Ojibwe reservation. Evelina, a young half-Ojibwe girl, listens to the tales from her grandfather Mooshum. We also hear from Judge Antone Bazil Coutts, who falls in love with Evelina's aunt, and follow his ancestor and namesake in Pluto's early existence. Histories intertwine, and the present repeats and contradicts the past.

The Plague of Doves resembles a short story collection, though its chapters are more interconnected and less complete than short stories. Erdrich lovingly details the mannerisms of individuals and wide-sky thunderstorms, but the use of multiple speakers can distance and confuse the reader. Still, moments of brilliance and humor emerge in situations dramatic and mundane. The delightful but flawed Mooshum is a poignant creation. Holy Track is a haunting but underdeveloped figure. One dazzling section is told by the mentally ill Marn Wolde. She is married to the fascinating Billy, a Messianic (or satanic) figure of terrible charisma.

Unfortunately, Marn Wolde's wild commentary suffers from a lack of clarity, as does almost every segment. Dramatic events affect characters too little or too much, distracting from what is actually unfolding. Stereotypical characters like the heartless, self-righteous Father Cassidy also detract from the story's power.

Starvation, murders, lynchings, kidnappings, and romances connect in fated coincidences. However, a lack of realism and narrative drive muddies beautiful imagery. Thus the supposed final punch is more hollow than gut wrenching.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simply Beautiful
The Plague of Doves is easily the most beautiful piece of fiction that I've read all year. The unique voices of the narrators bring this haunting story to life, with dynamic characters that leap off the page and into the reader's heart. Using broad, bold strokes, Erdrich paints a vivid picture showing the way a single brutal act can echo through the generations, effecting everything and everyone in its path.

The lives of the characters in The Plague of Doves entwine and weave together into a dazzling tapestry. Louise Erdrich is a master storyteller, blending the characters' stories together flawlessly. These parallel vignettes work in concert with one another to form an exquisitely well-written novel. As one might imagine, the story is both complex and grand in scope, but the end product is a remarkably well-developed and cohesive tale.

The Plague of Doves is both lyrically written and delightfully intricate. When you open this book prepare to become lost within its pages, drawn into a different time and place. The sense of history, coupled with mystery and even a bit of humor makes The Plague of Doves a first-rate work of fiction. Erdrich takes her readers on a delicious journey - one that I am eager to repeat. I will definitely be looking for more of her books in the future.

4-0 out of 5 stars couldn't keep them straight
With Louise Erdrich as the author of this book, it pretty much goes without saying that the writing is excellent. But I think I would have enjoyed it a lot more if I'd been able to keep the characters straight. The book jumps from narrator to narrator and generation to generation, and I just didn't have a chance. Often the new narrator is someone only distantly connected (by relationship, all the action takes place in the same general area) to a previous narrator, and I kept asking Who is this person? Am I supposed to have any prior knowledge of this person's relationships with anyone I've already met? Although each character and each narrative section was very well done, it became very frustrating to try to read this as a cohesive story.

4-0 out of 5 stars Many Sparks, But Little Flame
I'll admit that I was disappointed with The Plague of Doves. I've read a little of Erdrich's work in the past, and this novel had certainly drawn some praise. It has its moments. You see many instances in the book of Erdrich's genius, but it doesn't add up, somehow, into a full novel for me. The whole thing just didn't quite live up to expectations.

The novel feels a little more like a collection of stories than like a novel, though the characters are all related to one another in some way. Some of these stories are wonderful. The most living sections of the book are those that possess a folkloric quality and have to do with the older members of the novel's community, Mooshun and Shamengwa. Mooshun, now a grandfather, is sort of a trickster figure at moments (his pranks on the Catholic priest are the funniest and most entertaining parts of the book), and his storytelling is the key thread to tie the novel together. Years ago, he was the only survivor among a party of Obijwe hung for the murder of a white family (they were, of course, innocent). That story, and the mysteries that surround it, is gradually told throughout the novel, with information added by multiple characters, and most of the characters are shaped in some way by the tragedy. Shamengwa, Mooshun's brother, provides a sort of spiritual center to the novel, as he plays music from his violin that gives voice to sorrows that truths that transcend words.

Other stories within the book, however, do not seem to fit with these. Particularly, the middle section tells the story of Billy Peace and his family as he founds a cult and as his family tries to survive his increasing sadism. That middle section is much more violent and grotesque than the rest of the book and seems, in terms of plot, tone, and theme, to be very disconnected from the other stories. Some stories, such as Evelina's, are fine in and of themselves but seem to stifle the development of the other trains of thought in the book.

I guess that's my main issue with the book, which may not be an issue for others. Once I finished the book, I found myself thinking that it was like a puzzle with many pieces which don't fit together. No thought or impression or image is brought to completion. It was difficult for me not to contrast The Plague of Doves with the last book I read, Jhumpa Lahiri's story collection Unaccustomed Earth, in which many separate stories do seem to work in harmony with one another. The Plague of Doves contains many great moments. It's certainly a readable and often enjoyable book. But its disparate parts fail to work together to create something entirely memorable. ... Encountering a respectable governess in scandalizing circumstances, Gareth demands her help—to make him entirely ineligible.

He educates the buttoned-up Miss Jessica Gifford in the courtesan's arts. But Gareth hasn't bargained on such an ardent, clever pupil—or on his passionate response to her! He wanted to cause a stir—it seems they are about to brew a scandal! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous, Fabulous, Fabulous!!!!!
I didn't get from this story that Gareth 'must wed' as the previous reviewer wrote, but there was no doubt that Jessica was his true soul mate. There are only a handful of heros worth remembering and Gareth is certainly one of them.Every action, every word he spoke, every thought, was perfect.Even when he was less than perfect [in his own mind], when he explained to Jessica that he was 'adequate' with a sword and dueling, he was wonderful. The author did an outstanding job with his dialogue; he said just the right thing every time.Well done, Ms Allen.

5-0 out of 5 stars LOUISE'S AFFIRMATIONS AND CD'S REALLY WORK!
Since 1988, I have listened to Louise on cassettes. In 2003, the cassettes wore out and I now am the proud owner of 21 of her CD's and several of Louise's books. Her personal story is inspiring to me. She teaches that your thoughts can be your best friend or your enemy! And how you can change a thought! For almost 20 years, Louise has been of great assistance to me in helping me get through some rough times and move on to a happier life. On this CD, she really explains how to heal yourself and this CD has been a big help to me!

5-0 out of 5 stars Forgiveness and joy
On this helpful cassette CD, Louise Hay provides a powerful psychological tool for healing oneself. She explains the power of memory and emotion in the healing process; she talks about her own life, how she was abused as a child and how she overcame this trauma through the application of understanding and forgiveness. It also discusses the principles of personal transformation and contains a beautiful healing meditation that includes sections on how to forgive oneself and others, how to let go of negative thoughts and how to become the optimistic, joyful and created person that we were all meant to be. Hay has a powerful reassuring voice and her words exude confidence, insight and optimism. I highly recommend this CD to all who need psychological support in physical or mental healing. In my experience it has been most effective. Also listen to her tape Meditations For Personal Healing, a series of meditations that covers all the important aspects of life and Self-Esteem: Motivational Affirmations For Building Confidence and Recognizing Self-Worth.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Healing and meditation CD
Lost my original one and so I had to re-order it.It helps me calm down and sleep, and also the ideas are very healthy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Simple but powerful

I bought this book back in the early 1990's when I started doing meditation. It has been very inspirational and uplifting.Occasionally, I come back to this book and read the positive affirmations and reflect on my personal situations.Strongly recommended for those seeking peace, clarification, a deeper understanding of Life's small & big lessons, and for those looking for thoughts to meditate on.it makes a nice gift for someone you care for and who may be struggling...enjoy.

5-0 out of 5 stars Required Reading for the Weary
An inspirational balm, this book helps get your mind headed back in the same direction as your heart. I keep mine by my bed. I should probably get one for my purse, too. I love to open to random pages and see how what it says always seems apt. It's a little like having an amazing friend who always answers on the first ring. Buy two or ten and give them to everyone you know! Just a thought.

I believe the best book I've ever read is "Heart Thoughts (A Treasury of Inner Wisedome)". This book, written by Louise L. Hay really has a way of opening up the minds of the readers to new ways of thinking and viewing the world around you. She introduces you to a universe of positive, personal affirmations and sets you on the path to total acceptance and love for everyone and everything. Hay shows readers that there's SO MUCH more to life than one may think. I highly recommend this book to anyone who is interested in metaphysics and personal growth.

3-0 out of 5 stars My life is not my parents fault.
I just found this book.I was happy to find a workbook that will help me walk through releasing my old self and furthering the person I am striving to be.

The one big issue I have is how Ms. Hay brings parents into the mix.I admit my parents are great and yet they are not without their faults. What bothers me most is in the affirmations parents are mentioned in all but two.It usually starts with "I am not my parents"...I don't like how this book enables a person to lay the blame for their issues at their parents feet.

I realize there are some who have had horrible childhoods and there are just some issues that are hard to reconcile without good therapy.

I decide what happens to my life, I make my decisions. My life is my responsibility, not my parents.I would have liked to have seen a comment or section dedicated to that and then leave it at that.

In the end I just went through the book and took whiteout to all the parental references and edited them out of the affirmations.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Have Work Book For Healing People
This book is very colorful, easy to read and follow, and therefor the lessons in "Healing" are not a drudgery.I definetely recommend this to anyone reading Louise Hays Books.

3-0 out of 5 stars Lovely meditations but annoying music
I really like Louise Hay and think these meditations are great. But there are two things that make it difficult for me to listen to this on a regular basis.

First, the electronic music is very difficult to listen to and ignore so it's hard to get past that.I wish Louise would re-record this with more pleasant, non-electronic music.

Second, there are several five-minute meditations; but the CD is only broken down into two tracks so it's difficult to just listen to a few of my favorite meditations. It would have been so much nicer to have each meditation be a track of its own.

5-0 out of 5 stars ONE OF LOUISE HAY'S BEST CD'S EVER! IT IS SO SOOTHING!
In my opinion, everything that Louise Hay has written has been wonderful. Her very simplistic and down to earth writing really works for me. Since 1988, I have read Louise's books and listened to her tapes and CD's. When I first listened to this CD, I was amazed at how much it works for me and how soothing Louise's voice is! This CD gives you practical help in everyday WELLNESS and HEALTH and HEALING. And because I feel that Louise Hays teachings, CD's and books really work for me, I own 14 of them! And This CD really works for me and I have it to use when needed. Thanks Louise!

3-0 out of 5 stars Great messages but very distracting music
I am a HUGE fan of Louise Hay and her teachings, and I have quite a few of her CDs, my favorite being "Overcoming Fears." There is something so soothing about that CD, even though the music is a bit dated and has that 80s New Age sound, but it works. For me anyway.

That's the great frustration I'm experiencing with this CD for Personal Healing. The music is a synthesized piano and it sounds so harsh and tinny at times. It's actually intrusvie and is in great contrast to Louise's gentle, loving voice. I have tried again and again to work with this CD, and while I LOVE Louise's messages, I really have to work to get past the irritating music, which just sets me on edge. It's very frustrating because I'd really like to be in harmony with the brilliant ideas and affirmations, but the music is not in harmony with the spoken artist. It does not accompany or support Louise. It is a distraction and almost feels like the musician is fighting to wrest focus from her, and that's very difficult to listen to. I hate to say it but I would not recommend this CD.

5-0 out of 5 stars Best meditation CD out there
This is fantastic! Each of the meditations is beautiful and only 5 to 7 minutes long (there are about 13, covering all different topics from prosperity to relaxation to healing your body, etc.).The one about discovering your inner child makes me cry (I am not the kind to easily break down, but it truly is beautiful).I sometimes just put this in when I am driving and listening to Louise's soothing voice calms me right down. You will feel so much love in your heart when you're done listening.

5-0 out of 5 stars SAINT LOUISE TO THE RESCUE
When I first bought this cassette 2 years ago, I put it on softly on my reversible cassette player to listen throughout the night. For about a week I woke up with "dunes" of sand in my eyes so I must have beencrying a lot in my sleep. Louise has an incredibly warm, comforting voiceand she obviously knows a lot about psychology, which she applies towonderful effect in a very loving way. The first meditation is called YourHealing Light, and it's just her voice with piano and a bit of synth. It'sa perfect intro and I have subsequently been using it as a soundtrack forwhen I give reiki healing treatments. The meditations follow one anotherlike golden sonic waves, all of them addressing some vital issue oranother. Many of the beautiful phrases have stuck in my mind, like"there's a part of you that is more than your past, more than yourrelationships and more than your personality ..." and "I movefrom success to success, from joy to joy and from abundance toabundance" and "I am open and receptive to all good." Thistape also taught me how to forgive people that I did not want to forgive ordid not know how. After about 2 weeks I experienced a dramatic improvementin my outlook on life. I have subsequently moved on to far moretechnologically advanced cassettes (Eldon Taylor & Paul Scheele) butfor sheer human warmth and understanding, nobody comes close to Louise Hay.I would strongly recommend this cassette to anybody who has been abused inany way or who is depressed or feels helpless. It is uncanny, but I thinkthere a type of vibration emanating from this cassette, which is more thanthe sum total of her voice and her words. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Inner Wisdom Meditations
This is a beautiful little book. It has really nice affirmations with paragraphs to ponder and meditate on. Also some nice little illustrations in it.Very inspiring and portable. Great little book to take with you, fits nicely in your bag to take to work, and read at lunch time to boost your spirits. And just as a side note, this is a Hardcover, but not the type with a dust jacket. Its kind of like the turtleback gift edition books by Louise but the cover is alotthicker and a little more sturdy. Would work great as a gift too!

5-0 out of 5 stars A TEN STAR book where you can find the solution to any problem.
Inner Wisdom, Meditations for Heart and Soul is a beautiful book inside, as well as, outside. To feel good, for me, this is THE BOOK to go for.Even reading one page can make me feel so much better, lighter, safer and therefore healthier.Even reading one line, Louise L. Hay's line, "In the infinity of life where I am all is perfect, whole and complete" makes me sigh with relief and peace.

In this book Louise L. Hay addresses many subjects.Just to name a few:"I Am good enough", "I release all Negative Energy", "There is a solution to every problem".A one page ingenious snippet on each subject makes you feel like your problems are resolved and now you are sitting with a cup of hot cocoa covered in a warm blanket, satisfied, happy and secure. A perfect way to manifest solutions.

I came across this book when my life was in total chaos. It has been a huge source of healing for me.There are not enough words to express just how much this book has helped me.I just want to say, "In the infinity of life wherever you are, Thank you Louise L. Hay. Thank you."

boughtthis book as an encouragement for a friend; easy to read, divided intothouoght provoking chapters and sections , colorful and artsy; worked as an inspiring gift

5-0 out of 5 stars Another beautiful book by Louise Hay
I have read several of Louise Hay's books (including "You Can Heal Your Life") and have always been inspired by what she has to say. She's now in her 80's and she continues to speak of love and healing in all her books, including this one on meditations for the heart and soul.

This colorful little book of meditations starts out in classic Louise Hay style, with her introduction stating, "Remember, in the vast infinity of life, all is perfect, whole, and complete...and so are you."

She then goes on to provide meditations on numerous subjects, such as:

-I am willing to change and grow
-I bless my family with love
-My income is constantly increasing
-I love and accept myself right now
-There is a solution to every problem
-I am healthy and filled with energy...and many more

If you are already familiar with Louise Hay's work, I think you'll really enjoy this little book of meditations. If you're new to her work, by reading this book you'll come to see why she has touched so many people's lives.

Product Description

In this powerful 2-CD lecture, Louise L. Hay discusses the profoundly emotional experiences that have shaped and altered her belief system—and reveals how you can also change your thinking . . . and change your life!

Louise explains how she evolved from a fearful, abused young woman without an ounce of self-esteem . . . to the successful, empowered, internationally renowned teacher/author that she is today. In her inimitably forthright manner, Louise describes how she overcame a diagnosis of cancer through the use of “tools” such as affirmations, visualization, prayer, therapy, and healthful eating. She goes on to offer insights on the role of women and elders in our society, our family relationships, our connection to our inner child, and the importance of using the treasures within us in order to release burdens such as anger, judgment, prejudice, and illness.
