Qualified Praise
As a beginner to Visual Studio.NET, I have read and re-read sections of this book for several months now.95% of the time I love the book and the other 5% I am frustrated and searching MSDN for clues on why something won't work.Chapter 2 is a good introduction to ADO.Not only are great practical examples given, but the authors explain the pros and cons of the alternatives for implementing something (e.g., datareader vs dataset).
Chapter 6 was my first serious contact with ASP.NET.I got off to a very slow and frustrating start when the connection string to the database would not work for my system and no guidance was given on how to customize it.When I did get the connection up and the the project running, I found that the supplied database had date values that had all expired months before I bought the book.A simple note to go into the database to update the values would have saved me hours of troubleshooting.However, now that I have worked through every page of Chapter 6, I can honestly say that I have built a non-trivial Website using both XML and SQL Server data sources, postbacks, and user controls.

The chapter on deployment was also very useful.

Different Code Versions for Book and CD
If you write the code as written in the book, you'll end up with a program full of errors.The book is simply full of erroneous codes that you will tear your hair out trying to figure out where you made the mistakes.On the other hand, the code from the cd will run right out of the box and the projects are pretty decent.But this cannot overshadow sloppy editing and a poor excuse for the authors not trying the book themselves.

I don't how these people can give this book a good review, but...
I just got done throwing this book against the wall.The first chapter is enough to drive you nuts.Are you supposed to be typing the code in that he shows?if you do, you'll find that there are variables that aren't declared (until later).I kept leafing through the pages looking for a phrase like "OK - Enter the following code..."Nope.I couldn't figure out if I was supposed to be building these projects or just reading about theirs.The part on using the forms from the CD to make inherited forms didn't work like the book showed.all in all, I would NOT buy this one, if given the chance again.

An Excellent Resource!
I was able to immediately implement the solutions in this book at work and also took advantage of the authors suggestions on improving & customizing the applications.I would recommend this book to any developer anxious to crank out some .Net apps but with little time to start from scratch.

GREAT source on Beluga Whales
This is one of the best books I've gotten about Beluga Whales.Can't usually find it in bookstores, but I hit the gold mine when I found one online.

Beluga Whales by Tony Martin is an awesome book. If you like Beluga whales and learning facts about them, this is the book for you!
This book was published in 1996, therefore if you are looking at population or captive statistics this is not the book for you.On the other hand though, if you are looking for basic facts about beluga whales you have the right book!
This book explains what scientist believe the Delphinapterus levcas (scientific name for beluga whale) evolved from deer, cows and other types of ungulates,(land animals).
The Beluga's appearance is explained also very well.They are born a grayish tint and stay with their mothers until matured. Belugas turn white and their pectoral fins turn up at the tip as their age progresses.They are round shaped and are not made for fast swimming.
Beluga whales covers their interaction with each other.They communicate by "groans, buzzes, clicks, whispers, pops, raspberries, and other myriad noises."Belugas travel in "pods" which are groups of whales in a pack of approximately 18 belugas.
The book has many more topics covered such as how they treat their young, migration, feeding, interaction with humans, human hunting and what they use beluga for, and many other topics. This is a very factual and informative book.I would recommend this book to any person who has an interest in learning about beluga whales.

Behavioral Studies of Unlawful Authority
Does not the striking of the dragon always reveal the dragon even though it's argued by the dragon's cronies that the dragon does not exist?

Even after all of the elapsed time since this short 144 page book was first published (1993), the information contained therein is still completely relevant to the correct understanding of the rule-by-deception, go-with-the-flow defacto-bribery and intimidation mechanisms of our post-Christian Monarchical anti-Christ republics.

Dr. Martin's book exposes at least two things.

1st - It illuminates the ideologically-driven behavior of the non-Hebraic anti-semitic Judaic community when their historic and current well-funded social manipulation methods are exposed; the general context being the controverted inclusion of the book "The Secret Relationship Between Blacks and Jews, Vol. 1" into the syllabus of required reading for Dr. Martin's African Studies course and how the Judaic/Zionist community responded to it.

As an interesting side reference, please review the worldly temptations of Christ, the "King of the Jews" by Satan as recorded in Matthew 4 and Luke 4 of the New Testament's documentation of the historical events surrounding the blood-ratified Abrahamic Covenant. That he was offered and rejected Satan's administrative structure for the rule of the nations from a false foundation (via deception) is noteworthy in so far as the apostate Hebrew tribal church (having been destroyed subsequently) and their post 550 A.D. non-semite non-Hebrew ideological progeny, practicing the anti-semitic anti-Abrahamic Egyptian/Babylonian oral (Talmudic) traditions, took him up on it.

2nd - As defacto "salt and light" it shows the correct way for **truth** to be advanced by any man to (as-well-as against) the enemies of the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob thereby exposing their rabbinic deception.

This book is a good supplement to Jenifer Dixon's book "The Holy Land Unveiled" as-well-as Jack Bernstein's book "The Life of an American Jew in Racist, Marxist Israel" in that it shows the consistent behavior as applied from the same anti-semitic anti-Abrahamic Talmudic racist ideology.

If you plan on using your 'freedom of speech' any time and it involves disagreeing with unjust Jews, then expect some harsh and unwarranted attacks.You really don't need to read Dr. Martin's book (but I recommend you do) to witness the myriad of attacks on people who form opposing views to any Jewish idea or philosophy-just look at any society in any nation and witness how the unjust Jews interact within those societies.Their actions speak for themselves; however, Dr. Martin has every right to protect his opinions, facts, and perspectives without such unscrupulous tactics being used against him.Though he fought and won, his reputation was placed for a martyr, and we who will come after him need to let his experience be an example of their capabilities when they attack.

As a white person, I will always be very indebted to Dr. Martin for (however indirectly) helping to examine the issue of white guilt/culpability through his own pursuits. Sadly, it's often the very poorest whites (and the nicest, most God-fearing, non-money-grubbing) who are most asked to carry the moral guilt of this historical legacy. Especially in parts of the country where there really is not great intellectual sophistication. This has effects that are simply never voiced or known, and probably never will be.Dr. Martin is an honest and seeking man. Truth always rises and comes out, no matter what.

Excellent book, one of my all time favorites
Anyone who thinks the Jewish lobby exists only for the protection of Israel needs to read this book. There's a much greater agenda and everyone needs to know about it.

Hype, style and fashion: We are all the same!
Here is even more proof that the differences in exotic cultures have already been conquered and eliminated by globalization -- at least in three large cities on three different continents. Dutch photographer Hans Eijkelboom has documented the sameness of fashion and trends and every-day urban living in 21st century Paris, New York, and Shanghai. This superb photo book is more about cool book design, and obsessive anthropological-sociological typologies, than it is about great photography. But it is a gem.

The brilliant design of the book folds out to reveal three connected books with identical sequences of near-identical subject-matter: opened and stretched out on your reading desk you have three books side-by-side. It then becomes natural to turn the pages of all three books simultaneously as you proceed. With delight, we are presented with, for instance, photographs of French, American, and Chinese men all wearing camouflage clothes as fashion statements in all three cities -- lots of men, lots of camouflage, in cities!

This pattern continues to an amazing degree with all sorts of typologies to compare and contrast: huge public sculptures, people wheeling luggage and boxes through city streets,traffic jams, urban places to relax, and even an hilarious triple spread of women sporting Louis Vuitton look-alike handbags.

Tony Godfrey writes this in his introductory essay:

"For a book of art photographs, there is an extraordinary array of images. Having opened it, I turn the pages of each volume simultaneously: I can see sixty photographs of men in striped shirts; turn again, and I see an army of seventy-two men in suits marching to work; turn again, and a panorama of empty civic spaces. What are we being told? That this is a small world after all? Is this a Family of Man on a minimal grid?"

This book forces those questions, and more. And though no single image is a stellar, stand-alone photograph, there is generous volume of photographs here -- 1,256 color images to be exact.

Great critique of globalization
One personal caveat, I don't normally purchase booksof photography but this book was recomended. As someone who is a fan of big cities after I excaped my small town chilhood, this book sounded worth getting. This book does,withits repetitions of similar events in the three cities show in vivid display that we are all the same across the world in ways that are posigive and negative. On the postitive side Eijkelboom shows us parents holding babies, boyfriends and girlfriends in such a powerfulway that that brought tears to my eyes. There is an almost impressionistic look to his photos of nature that take yourbreath away.
On the negative side in all cities are the homeless. Here he uses realistic style that breaks your heart. But globalization is the main evil inthe potographers sight. We all own the same types of product and there is no real individuality across the word. From camoflage clothing to omnipresent advertising and the preseceof mainly American products.
There is a great indroduction and an essay by a scholar that helped me appreciate thi sbook to the fulest. Highly recommended.

An authoritative document.
This is a large book with excellent artwork, diagrams, cross sections and photographs. The text is well written, instructive and, best of all, easy to follow. I have several books about Whales and Dolphins which were designed purely as reference material. This, however, is a book you can sit down, read and enjoy.

The list of 11 contributors and their individual qualifications is very impressive. Each of these brings their individual knowledge and experiences of zoology, biology and research etc to this book and, in so doing, combine to make it a most authoritative work. Even the book's two artists have a great experience and knowledge of the creatures they paint - one of whom is also a biologist. That artwork, incidentally, is quite outstanding and shows aspects of certain whales' behaviour that could never be caught on camera.

The book is laid out in an easy-to-follow format. Part of the wide-ranging Introduction includes that all important topic "What are Whales" - which, after all, some people still think are nothing more than very big fish! Having set the scene quite expertly, we then move on to the different categories of Whales and Dolphins and are treated to excellent descriptions of; Baleen, Right, Gray, Rorqual, Toothed and Sperm Whales before coming on to those smaller species. Here we have; Narwhal, Beluga, Irrawaddy, Beaked & Bottlenose Whales, Pilot & Killer Whales, Oceanic Dolphins, Porpoises and finally River Dolphins.

In summary, I couldn't think of any aspect of the subject of this book's title which was not adequately covered in the content. An excellent book for both the professional and amateur with an interest in these incredible creatures.
