Chapters: Jim Shooter, Simon Furman, Vince Dicola, Bob Budiansky, Andrew Wildman, Henry Orenstein, Don Figueroa, Shane Mccarthy, Guido Guidi, Aaron Archer, Nelson Shin, Floro Dery, Larry Ditillio, E. J. Su, Marty Isenberg. Excerpt:Aaron C. Archer (born 1972 in Canton, Ohio ) is a toy designer for the Hasbro toy company from 1995 onwards. Archer has worked on toy lines including Batman , Star Wars , and Alien Resurrection , amongst others. Archer's earliest Transformers work were designs for the later Beast Wars toys, including Transmetal 2 Megatron, Dinobot, and Cheetor. Currently Archer is the design director on the Transformers brand, a role that essentially makes him the highest-ranking Transformers staffer on the Hasbro side of the business (Transformers are produced in partnership with Takara ). Archer manages a design team that is responsible for concept design, both for larger storyline concepts (Archer claims the idea for Transformers: Cybertron was initially created on a Taco Bell napkin over lunch) and for the look of individual characters. While Takara's engineers are responsible for converting Hasbro designs into three-dimensional action figure form. Takara/Tomy also has say in design choices. Archer is also well-known in the Transformers fandom for his brief stint posting on the TFW2005 boards under the assumed name "Orson" (a reference to Orson Welles , voice of Unicron ). Archer responded to fan questions in an unusually cryptic style, answering either-or type questions with a straightforward "NO" and only answering specific parts of multi-part questions (most likely due to non-disclosure issues). The "Orson's World" message board was eventually shut down by Hasbro and issued a statement that they wanted to treat all fansites fairly. Prior to working for Hasbro, Archer se... ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Different Ending From The Movie.
WARNING: My REVIEW MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS: Pretty in Pink is a good movie and I also read this movie tie-in book which was based on the original movie screenplay but the book was written using the screenplay as a basis before final changes were made to the actual movie so at the end of the book at the prom Andie winds up not choosing the guy who she chose in the movie but another guy. So who does she wind up hooking up with at the end of the book? Read it and find out. But Most Pretty in Pink fans know that answer anyway.

5-0 out of 5 stars I loved this book
I loved this book, like the title says.I am very disappointed that the publisher stopped printing it because everyone should read it.The book basically follows the same way that the classic movie does. All thecharacters and everything that happens is basically the same, i don'treally want to give anything away so--read it!

4-0 out of 5 stars Interesting
This book is very interesting to mw because the girl is very different. She does not seem to care what people think of her.I liked the fact that she met Blane but I don't like how his friends pressured him.If they were his friends they did not have to accept his girlfriend becaue she was nottheir girlfriend. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars wonderful cross stitch
I have been doing cross stitch for a few years and the usual patterns got dull but this book opens a brand new world to explore. If you love anime/manga and are into crafts then this is the book for you. The patterns aren't really manga style since manga drawing can be very complex with different types of shading that you simply can't duplicate this way. The is really anime style art that has been transformed into easy to do cross stitch patterns. All the patterns are on the CD not in the book. The book just tells you what to buy, how to cross stitch, and how to use the CD. It's only part of the program to get you started. The full version of the program can be purchased from a website for a fee (with a slight discount if you own the book). Don't worry, they provide more than enough patterns on the CD (of characters that die hard fans will know) to keep you busy for ages.

5-0 out of 5 stars The kids love it!
Manga maniacs who like to cross-stitch or are interested in learning will love this book. For those who have cross-stitched before, have fun.For beginners, reading the book will give an in-depth description of stitches, materials, and equipment needed, as well as techniques to enhance your cross-stitch.This book also details more difficult stitches and tricks to highlight and add drama to your needlework art.It provides manga-type caricatures to stitch or an added option to change and create your own.If you like to draw manga, this is a way to bring your art to life through cross-stitch.

5-0 out of 5 stars I thought cross-stitch was boring until I discovered this book!
I love fabric crafts, sewing, crochet, knitting, but cross-stitch never appealed to me because I thought of it as boring and all about floral flitty things. Then I discovered Manga Cross-Stitch by Helen McCarthy and my misconceptions about cross-stitch were blown out of the water.

I never considered that cross-stitch could go beyond just little floral things. While Manga Cross-stitch mostly touches on doing manga and similar cartoon designs, it made me realize that all kinds of designs can be used for cross-stitch! Since I love gaming (Halo, etc.) and MMO (World of Warcraft), I now have a new creative outlet and design ideas I'd love to see implemented.

Helen's book made it easy for me, a newbie to cross stitch, to learn what I need to do to get started and it even includes a trial software to tinker with. The book is fun to follow along and I really liked the photographs. She includes a bit of history of manga as well.

The included software CD was a bit glitchy to get installed but it seems decent enough. You do have to pay for the fully unlocked version.

If you're a fan of manga and would like to try your hand at cross stitch, Helen McCarthy's Manga Cross-Stitch is a real treat. It's a fun, colorful book that will get you excited about designing and stitching your own cross-stitch of your favorite cartoon characters....and beyond!

4-0 out of 5 stars Fun cross stitch & design primer, good for knitting, too!
First off, I'm kind of stunned that anyone thought they were going to get a full version of the software with a $20 ($13 on Amazon) hardcover book. If you're any kind of stitcher, you know the software out there is pretty pricy. All I expected were chart pdfs, so I was delighted at the demo--especially when I saw that it had a "convert to knitting chart" feature. And you can get around buying the full version by printing from preview (although the preview system was clunky & counter-intuitive) or Grab in mac. But for the price (free), I'm willing to fuss a little.

I actually picked out this book to use the patterns for needlepoint (which has an equivalent scale), but I'm psyched that with the software's knitting conversion feature, I'll be able to knit the designs as well.

The book includes an easy-to-follow cross stitch primer (I've never done cross stitch and it seems totally doable and simple), plus chapters on adding backgrounds and other graphic elements to your basic design. The main charts are broken down by style, and the chapters include basic information on the different styles of manga. As a non-manga fan looking for gift ideas for manga-loving friends, I found the information very handy and interesting. There are also western letters, katakana, hiragana, kangi, etc.

I do wish there were more distinct designs--there is emphasis on combining elements to personalize your design, which is great, but I would have liked more basic figures to choose from. Overall, though, quite satisfying.

4-0 out of 5 stars Very Unique!
This is a very unique and nifty book and software tool. Definitely worth the money! ... Read more
