Excellently crafted musical tabliture!
This music book contains some of the McCartney repertoire. Both Beatles and solo matierial is included. It is especially unique because of the McCartney drawn pictures included.The guitar tabs are magnificent and it truly shows McCartney's musical diversity. Loved the Book
My son used this to gather unknown facts about Paul McCartney for a book report.He loved adding this to his collection of rock star books.

More Now Than Then
There are some worthwhile things about this book, although it might have worked better as less a coffee-table volume as it isn't quite that speed. What you get is more a portrait of Sir Paul today as he is perceived this last half-decade. The interviews with others (middle section) provide some good anecdotes. Good choice of people too. Barrow was there (with the lads) forever and has a perspective that is different, if not new. Not that many were "there" all through the Beatlemania years. Still, mostly we get stories and praises of Paul today. Think of this as an attempt to honor and praise Paul while he's alive, rather than after he's gone - much of it does seem like a eulogy at times. What's missing is more of an appreciation of his non-rock career (classical, experimental, animation soundtracks, painting, etc.) which seems to be a lot of what he is about since 1990.

Don't judge the book by it's glossy cover
Sorry to say that this glossy looking generously-formatted book is nothing more than a badly written amateur article blown up with shockingly poor photo material (taken from videos, other books). That the author even dares to mention that he visited Paul at home for this should embarass him deeply.

A rip off, nothing else.

Nothing much
There are lots of other, better books on the Beatles and on McCartney. This one is basically a hodge-podge coffee table book, combining a few interviews with Beatles-related folks (George Martin, Klaus Voorman, Pete Best, Peter Asher, Donovan, etc.)with some memories of Beatles press officer Tony Barrow and some fawning drivel by one of Paul's modern toadies telling us what he's been up to lately. This book was apparently rushed to market, as it has no central concept, a few typos, and the book actually ends in the middle of a sentence. Most of the "unseen" photos are boring, blurry shots from 1960s television that we could have done without. If this book has any value, it is from the odd collection of guest interviewees; most of these folks have been heard from in other places before, but still, a decent Beatles anecdote is always worth a glance.

Some great photos and revealing words
This is a welcome book for Macca fans everywhere. Though there is absolutely nothing new for people who have long followed Paul's career, for newbies this would be a veritable treasure trove. Paul speaks candidly about John, the Beatles break-up, his marriage with Linda, the infighting among various members of Wings (especially Denny Laine), and his musical legacy. There's nothing about Linda's struggle with breast cancer, her death, or the appearence of Heather Mills. So don't expect any information on Macca's life post-1998.

All of this has been discussed ad nauseum by Paul in previous interviews dating back many years. But there are snippets that are marvelous. I especially like his description of he and John slagging off school and assembling in Paul's upstairs bedroom at 20 Forthlin Road to write songs. What wouldn't you give to have been on a fly on the wall in that room?

The photos are nicely done with some rare and intriguing shots. Not many color shots and the photos from the Beatles years are a little weak. Still, if you love Paul, this is a "must have" for your collection. ... Read more

I Just Have to Comment on This
I love this book. It's informative and filled with heart felt personal memoirs. The higlights are when he talks about John Lennon and expresses the obvious love he still has for his fallen friend and partner. Other highlights are his heartfelt recollections of his emotional breakdown over the breakup of the Beatles. But this review is not for the actual book, but for the audacity of the private sellers on this site, who actually think they can sell a used paperback book, for 67 bucks!!! Are they not aware that anyone withhalf a brain will click on the first entry for this book, and order a brand new copy from Amazon, for 17 bucks? Do they think the book is out of print and therefore a big collectors item? Think again folks! And good luck trying to sell your used goods for 67 dollars when it's available brand new for 17. Just Right
My daughter, 14 years old and playing harp since age 6, found these arrangements a great pleasure if somewhat of a challenge tomaster. Beatles music sounds surprisingly good on the harp and has the advantage of allowingher to accompany friends in non-classical repertoires. Sometimes it seems easier to practice tunes more contemporary.......
These are well arranged and suitable for high-intermediate (and above) harpers. Nicely done.

Don't waste your time
There he goes again. The man who finds himself a Beatle "expert" writes another "book", when anyone who read at leat two good books (I said good) about The Beatle can easily see this is a poorly research books, with factual error, glaring mistakes, exagerations or just the good old-lies (Giuliano isn't above that at all). The only people who will find this book good are the ones who never read anything about the band or/and started to listen to them yesterday.

Regarding "Many Years From Now", some people (harcore Lennon fans, mostly) called Paul a liar because of that book. However, the stories these same people doubted (such as Lennon not being part of the making of "Tomorrow Never Knows" effects nor being source of the idea of the tape loops, and Paul being composer of the orchestral avant-garde part of "A Day In The Life) confirmed these stories, like George Martin, and Geoff Emerick, the Beatles sound engineer. No every fantastic piece of song was Lennon's work and he wasn't the only one who brought new ideas to studio, some people have to accept that

People have to understand that John wasn't THAT much experimental, as the legends of clichés tell. He was experimental, but he was more a rock 'n' roll kinda of guy. He did do it and explored his bouderies, be with Paul or Yoko and pushed Paul to do explore his own (Paul's) experimental ideas, to work with them. Paul was also one of the few (if not the only) to understand what John wanted to do with a song. He was able to translate them to music. That was what made theirpartnership so fantastic, it wasn't their different approachs to music, but the way they communicated and understood with each other.

Giuliano here explores very little of their relationship and partnership. Reading this book you won't be able to understand them because Giuliano doesn't understand them. He already have a pre-conceived idea of them and manipulates some info and ignored others to fit his "theory" and the clichés people think of each one of them.

Entertaining, but with flaws
So far I had only read Lennon In America by Geoffrey Giuliano - a book that I absolutely hated. It was therefore that I wasn't expecting a lot from this book, but I must say that at least this one is better in style. An entertaining read.
The focus of the book is the relationship between Lennon & McCartney and how they collaborated on songs in (mainly) the early stages. Later on they didn't write together anymore (well hardly), but because of the rivalry that existed between them, each motivated the other to come up with some of the best songs ever written in this world.
George and Ringo hardly feature in the book, which seems a bit strange as the book deals with the career of Lennon / McCartney and The Beatles in a strictly chronological order and of course George and Ringo played a major role in that. To be fair though, in the author's notes Giuliano already announces that the book mentions the works of George and Ringo only in passing, without the amount of detail that is given to Lennon & McCartney.
The book describes how John and Paul met, started playing music in Julia's bathroom, wrote their first songs together, became The Beatles, how they worked in the studio, how their relationship grew from bad to worse and briefly describes their song writing after the Beatles broke up. All of this interspersed with quotes and bits of (mostly well known) interviews.
Right from the start, it is very clear that the author likes Lennon a lot better than McCartney. Lennon is always the genius, McCartney always has other motives in anything he does and is just waiting for a chance to take control of The Beatles.
Lennon's music is innovative and (often) provocative, while McCartney writes songs that are sugar coated and suitable for old age pensioners....
In summary, an entertainingly written book, but not a must have.

Is it the publishers' assumptions that we only want to read about the seedy underbelly of popstars?Is it because dirty stories sell better than honest ones?Does he come cheap?

The shame of it is that people keep buying them - and to those of you who are lead to believe that he's an expert and writing the truth - it's not so.Geoffrey Giuliano clearly does little real research, he goes on basic stories available anywhere (or dredged up from scandal sheets) and turns them into "history."

Geoffrey Giuliano books offer NOTHING to readers wanting to learn about the Beatles (or any of his other targets).He goes straight for the scummy side of his subjects and where finding not enough, elaborates.Look, I have NOTHING against truth, and there is no value to books that ignore the bad side of a celebrity's life.But to simply focus on dirt, rumor and scandal just to sell books...awful.

Geoffrey Giuliano books are to literature as Jerry Springer is to television.Avoid, please...

Lennon's a genius, McCartney is boring and pretenious, Starr is a no talent hack and Harrison merely a brat... riiiiiiiiiiiiight.

The writing is amatuerish in nature, with an overabundance of exclamation points where none are necessary; a clear bias towards one of his subject matters over the other; and inaccurate information even the most casual Beatle fan would be quick to point out.

Author doesn't stay on the topic implied from the title of the book, that being the relationship between the two men. The subject quickly mushrooms to a boring, shallow book on the Beatles.

Avoid.

Kate Boyes (The importance of ... )
There are precious few authors out there who write biographies worth a read, and fewer still who can arrange the facts of someone's life into a format that is enjoyable to consume. Kate Boyes has done just that, and although the book is geared toward the teenage reader, a well-read adult will appreciate it as well. Boyes has taken Paul McCartney's story and crafted it thoughtfully into a clever and entertaining book. She covers aspects of McCartney's life that most authors never consider and presents him as a real person ... by the end of the book you really feel that you've experienced his life, and you feel that you've learned something and grown along the way.
