Product Description
Three Mile Bay, located just below the Canadian border in the town of Lyme, was settled between 1810 and 1820. Early immigrants from Canada and Europe were drawn by the abundance of water-powered mills and factories along the area's waterways. At the mouth of Three Mile Creek stood the sawmill of Peter and Richard Estes, built in 1820; from 1860 to the 1900s, limestone quarried in the Three Mile Bay area was known for its superior quality. Resident Asa Wilcox built 48 brigs, propellers, schooners, and other seafaring vessels from 1835 to 1853, some ultimately joining the approximately 500 shipwrecked vessels now resting at the bottom of Lake Ontario. Fishing and selling potash were often carried on by farmers as side ventures. When loads of potash, and occasionally wheat, were hauled to Albany, on the return trip merchandise was brought back to be sold in local stores. For generations, families developed their trades and helped to sustain the hard-working people of the hamlet of Three Mile Bay. ... Read more

Product Description
The Seven Shires Way is a 234-mile long walk around the Oxfordshire county boundary. It criss-crosses the boundary taking the walker into seven shires from Gloucestershire to Oxfordshire, Warwickshire, Northamptonshire, Buckinghamshire, Berkshire and Wiltshire. The path passes through a wide variation of scenery: from the marlstone scarp slope of Edgehill in Warwickshire to the ironstone villages of North Oxforshire, the clay vale of Aylesbury, the beech woods of the Chiltern Hills, the riverbank of the Thames, the open downland of Berkshire and Cotswold villages in Gloucestershire. The book divides the walk into 21 sections, all of which have suggested access points for shorter distances, a list of useful accomodation and information about public transport. Each walk is accompanied by the relevant section of the Ordnance Survey map and is illustrated, giving archeological, historical, botanical and literary detail. ... Read more

Editorial Review

Product Description
This book examines why some international environmental regimes succeed while others fail. Confronting theory with evidence, and combining qualitative and quantitative analysis, it compares fourteen case studies of international regimes. It considers what effectiveness in a regime would look like, what factors might contribute to effectiveness, and how to measure the variables. It determines that environmental regimes actually do better than the collective model of the book predicts. The effective regimes examined involve the End of Dumping in the North Sea, Sea Dumping of Low-Level Radioactive Waste, Management of Tuna Fisheries in the Pacific, and the Vienna Convention and Montreal Protocol on Ozone Layer Depletion. Mixed-performance regimes include Land-Based Pollution Control in the North Sea, the Convention on Long-Range Transboundary Air Pollution, Satellite Telecommunication, and Management of High Seas Salmon in the North Pacific. Ineffective regimes are the Mediterranean Action Plan, Oil Pollution from Ships at Sea, International Trade in Endangered Species, the International Whaling Commission, and the Convention for the Conservation of Antarctic Marine Living Resources. ... Product Description
Earlyon the morning of April 23, 2007, Cindy Sherwin left her Lower East SideManhattan apartment and began her day with a bike ride on Riverside Drive. Shewas training for her first Ironman Triathlon in Lake Placid, NY. This would bea busy day with training for the 100-mile cycle portion of the race, a packedschedule of personal training clients, and a run in Central Park. But this wasnot to be a typical day. Midway through her ride, Cindy suffered a rupturedbrain aneurysm and died at the young age of 33, leaving her mother, ElaineRoberts Schaller, devastated and lost.

DearCindy, Love Mom: Letters of Love, Loss and Life is an honest, first person account of Schaller's experiences andfeelings throughout that first year. It is a book filled with heartbreak, suffering and ultimately hope, a compilation of the author's letters to herdaughter and her observations about things that helped her heal and those thatdid not.

Suggested by a griefcounselor as a means of coping with her heartbreak, the book started out as ajournal. At the end of that first year of daily entries, Mrs. Schaller lookedback at the progress she made and realized its possible value to others.

While the book is sometimes adifficult read, it also provides hope. Elaine gropes through the tunnel of heragony and emerges at the other end to see glimpses of sunlight.

For someone who has suffereda loss, for a friend of someone dealing with grief, for the grief counselor orother professional to suggest to a client and finally to a compassionatereader, DearCindy, Love Mom is a must.

5-0 out of 5 stars TOUCHED MY HEART AND SOUL
Dear Cindy, is a wonderful book on on love and loss. The author is a member of a club that no parent wants to join. It is written straight from the heart. As a retired therapist, I would have recommended this book to every parent who had ever lost a child. The author talks about her grief in a way that most readers can connect with. She talks about different ways to deals with grief and acknowledges that all people deal with grief in different ways and acceptance of the different ways by all family members is so important. She discusses the wide circle of emotions. It is compassionate, and extremely well written and is a personal journey that will help others deal with their own grief.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read
I recently sustained the loss of my stepdaughter whom I knew from infancy and was struggling with my grief.Someone referred me to Jeff Pearlman's review of "Dear Cindy, Love Mom" in Sports Illustrated Online where he refers to the book as "the best sports book of 2010," I immediately ordered it.He was so right! It is "heartbreaking and heartening." I appreciated Schaller's bravery and ability to nail every emotion of her first year.Every word resonated with me. It's different from other grief books in so many ways.I highly recommend it.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Powerful, Must Read
I just finished reading a powerful, moving, tear provoking book, titled "Dear Cindy, Love Mom...Letters of Love, Loss and Life", by Elaine Schaller.

Elaine's eldest daughter, Cindy, died suddenly and tragically from a ruptured brain aneurysm in April, 2007. As part of her grieving process, her therapist suggested that Elaine write letters to Cindy, and this book is that compilation.

I strongly recommend this wonderful, heartfelt book to anyone who has suffered the unimaginable loss of a child, and to the rest of us who have gone through other devastating losses.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Most Important Read
Elaine Roberts Schaller has written a most poignant and honest book of letters describing her first year journey of grief. The reader feels the author's pain but Schaller leaves each chapter with a suggestion of how you can move forward and hope is always on the horizon. The is an amazingly well written book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heartbreaking and Heartfelt!
