5-0 out of 5 stars Ever wondered what a horse thought? Look no further then!
Spike Milligan, professional goon and all round funny man has done it again. Black Beauty according to Spike Milligan is undoubtedly the most hilarious book from beginning to end. What makes this version of Black Beauty different from the others? Its told from the horses point of view. Everything that makes Black Beauty, Black Beauty is thrown right out the window.
You'll soon learn that poor Beauty had a really trying life, occasionally broken by the odd whiskey and oats or the odd kicking, biting and thorough trampling of people he didn't like or really liked. The horse is seriously mixed up yet still good natured. The male readers may wince at certain areas.

On the whole you'll be chuckling, sniggering and rolling around wracked with fits of laughter as Spike Milligan presents Beauty's life as Beauty saw it. ... Read more

Product Description
Britain's looniest war hero completes the third volume of the Milligan memoirs. The nineteenth battery forge into Tunis, cocksure and carefree. They climb on aqueduct with no trousers on (the battery that is; the aqueduct was very well-dressed). Five hundred gunners try to dance with two girls and an old French matron...up there in Valhalla, Monty's laughing fit to burst. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Another great historical satire from Spike Milligan
Spike Milligan was an outstanding historical satirist. What makes his works different from other contemporaries is that he actually lived what he wrote about.Like greats, such as Hemingway, Milligan reports on the obscure and tangential elements of war, but in a fantastically humorous way.

" Monty . . . " is the third of four installments in Milligan's war biography trilogy. It is a bit shorter the than the other three but contains the same elements of history, humor, and observations. It, like the others, is easy to read in short segments. Each chapter is fairly self-contained.

If you are a fan of Monty Python, Joseph Heller, or Doug Adams, I highly recommend this work.

5-0 out of 5 stars continues to be worth reading
Everytime I pick up one of Milligan's war memoirs I think: "Oh, this one can't possibly be as good as the last" and everytime he proves me wrong. Although Monty is not as engaging as ROMMEL, it is still up there. The book covers the aftermath of the British victory in Africa, which consists of a lot of partying and a lot of sleeping. What's most entertaining is Milligan's recounts of his Old West obsessed father and his accident prone best friend, Harry Edgington. Once again, he makes you wish you were there to experience the times with him. These war memoirs are high reccommended! ... Read more

Product Description
Spike Milligan was one of our best-loved comics as well as one of our most original. In this first major assessment of Spike's life and career, the highly respected biographer Humphrey Carpenter has - through copious research and access to many of those closest to the great man - unearthed a character who could be as difficult and contradictory as he was generous and talented. The creator of The Goons was to influence a whole generation of comics, yet was never to feel fully valued. His periods of depression were matched by periods of high creativity - there were poems, novels, volumes of biography, as well as TV series and a one-man show as Spike searched for his best means of expression. There was also, as revealed here, his inveterate womanising. Married three times and with four children to whom he was devoted, two illegitimate children were to remain barely acknowledged. Detailing both his private and professional life, Humphrey Carpenter gives us the most revealing portrait yet of this highly complex genius. ... Read more
