The story line wasgood but I found it highly unlikely that Amelie and Nick would be able to behave in the sexually obvious way they did and still be accepted in society of that era. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Engaging Writer, Poor Plottiing and Scenarios
It is unfortunate indeed that this writer chose to place her protagonist in such unlikely situations. No woman, I repeat, no woman of the time would have acted the way Letitia acted. It just didn't happen.I believe that an author who wants to modernize her heroine should do a time travel novel. Please don't insult your intelligent reader's intelligence by creating people and placing them in improbable situations. It makes the author look like a lazy, trifling idiot.

On the plus side, the author knows how to create sexual tension between her main characters. The repartee was delicious, and I can say even better than most of the drivel I have read recently. If Ms. Landon can remain historically accurate and also provide interesting, intelligent, sizzling repartee and romance between her characters, she will have won me over. This is the first book I've read by her, and it's not bad.Just not Georgette Heyer by a country mile. She got three stars from me based on her writing ability alone, not the story line.

It would be a miracle if the editors of these books would do their jobs and stop printing them. But then, could it be that they are just as lazy and trifling as the authors?

2-0 out of 5 stars Frustrating!
I usually enjoy Juliet Landon's books, but this one was so full of historic inaccuracies, I could not believe she had written it!
The Heroine, Letitia, was a 'lady of quality' who ran a girls Seminary (I did not see any evidence of her teaching!) for young ladies who seemed to just run around Richmond and London endlessly. Two of seven got in rather large trouble due to her inattention and inexperience. The Hero had little or no substance other that saving the Heroine! And oh, did I mention that the lady also anonymously wrote steamy books everyone was reading?
For a 24 year old young lady to be running a school with various loosely employed (many male!) teachers, to be proclaiming to her uncle she was going to be a mistress, and to be sleeping with the Hero AT THE SCHOOL struck me as rediculous!!!! Pass this one by--I wish I had!

This actually was quite good.I wasn't expecting much from a Harlequin, but it surprised me.The secondary story with Hugh and Meg was actually quite funny.Ebony and Alex didn't quite have the chemistry that the other couple had.I did like the way the author wrote the initial love scenes as though the heroine were dreaming. The denial felt more realistic than if Ebony had just jumped in without any qualms. There were no great surprises but this was a very pleasant read.

5-0 out of 5 stars Steamy medieval!!
Medieval romances are my favorite. The Widow's Bargain is one of the best I've read.Great story, accurate and interesting historical setting, complex characters and VERY steamy and plentiful love scenes! This one is a keeper.

Please keep writing them like this Ms. Landon!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars A good read
This is the third romance I have read by Juliet Landon and I'm really enjoying the medieval setting.I usually go for Regency romances but I recently got a bit tired of those and so decided to try another period. The book brings home that it really was a man's world. The heroine, Rhoese, thinks she has independence after her father dies but the Norman King William II has other ideas and takes the land she inherited and gives her in marriage, eventually to the hero, Jude, who is a Norman and despised by Rhoese because of it.Jude is an arrogant so and so and I was a little annoyed at the way he man-handles Rhoese at the beginning of the book but I suppose that was to add to the sexual tension. After their marriage the book follows the development of their relationship as they take a trip up to Durham in the North of England.Jude turns out to be quite understanding at times.I think the sex scenes are really well written.I enjoyed the book, I enjoyed the period and I'm going to read more of Juliet Landon. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars VERY GOOD STORY - JUST NOT ENOUGH GRIT
This is one of my marshmellow stories - no enough suspense - not enough depth.

A pleasure to read though - and I definitely want to know who the characters are when I read a review -
Juliet Rousseau, 32 & blond - middle of the sisters - still troubled by the flashback's of her trauma a year ago - she disconnects from reality.
Juliet has come to the aid of her older sister, Desdemona "Desi", a brunette, who is going to divorce her cheating husband, Claude Tsosie, a Native American artist.
Claude wants to sell her ranch compound for wolves - millions are involved - he and Desi have been married for 16 years.

Juliet is a lawyer from California - she and her 2 sisters used to come to camp in Mariposa, Colorado when they were younger - Desi returned to the town to buy the ranch.Miranda, a fiery red-head is the youngest sister, an artist and settled in New York. But all three rally around in times of need.

Joshua Mad Calf and his four year old daughter, Glory are very interested in Juliet. Glory calls her a "Princess".Josh's mother, Helene, helps watches Glory when Josh is called out to respond to any incidents.Josh is tribal police.Helene is a nurse and a medicine womon on the Ute rez.

To get information or "gossip" Josh and Julie stop in The Black Crown - a British-styled pub that Tamati Neville opened in Mariposa. I wonder what part he will play. Juliet was still looking for her totem.

Definitely Recommended-m- thoroughly enjoyable read but ......more depth is needed

4-0 out of 5 stars It's a little too easy...
I just finished reading Juliet's Law. It only took about two hours straight through. Fast moving plot, with enough action to be in Silhouette's Supense category. But to me, it seemed too easy to be believable. Juliet complains that fairy tales set up unreasonable expectations for little girls, but this also reminded me of a fairy tale. A woman with emotional problems, especially having to do with physical intimacy, just doesn't open up this easily. Seems kind of normal for this type of romance novel, though. A quick, fun read, but disingage the logical part of your brain before curling up in front of the fire with it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Read this one first
I actually read the second book (Desi's Rescue) before this one. While they are stand-alone and OK to read out of order, I read enough about Juliet in the second one to make me wish I'd read this first, just to set my background. This is one excellent book and leaves you cheering for the heroine and hero, and glad you have the second one to read now now and sad the third isn't available yet (at least not today 3/20/07).Soon!Her characters could be your neighbors and you will enjoy them very much! ...
