Locoland was the best book I have ever read. Any producer out there take time to read this book it would make an unbelievable movie!

scintallatingly relentlessly bizarrely wonderful
Morris writes from south of southern Hades where the land is buckled with sin and the only way out is straight down through the rough belly of the beast.

Tarantino meets Castaneda
Within the first few pages, Morris lets you know the ride's gonna be rough...but you're still surprised at the bumps and grinds in the rutted road to Locoland.Then you wonder if you'll ever be the same when, and if,you make it back across the border. Morris has a sense of Mexico...andgets you there in a haze of drugs, sex, and murder.Some of the scenesmight stay with you awhile...so don't read too fast as you reach theclimax.You might wake up thinking it was all a bad dream...or a helluvabad trip.

Since that time Phylakopi has been a key site both for the study of the Cycladic Bronze Age and of prehistoric Aegean interconnections.This volume completes the authoritative account of the excavations undertaken for the British School of Archaeology from 1974 to 1977 under the direction of Colin Renfrew. Leading specialists contribute full descriptions of the stratigraphy, of the pottery of successive phases and of the other finds, now making Phylakopi one of the most comprehensively documented and published sites of the Aegean Bronze Age.Phylakopi was a settlement in close touch with other areas, notably Minoan Crete and Helladic Greece, from the Early Bronze Age onwards, with a marked increase in Minoan imports during the Middle Bronze Age. The chronology of the fortifications is here re-assessed in the light of stratigraphic associations. This IDC study presents an analytical overview of the IT services contracts signed in the Asia/Pacific (excluding Japan), or APEJ, region. The IT Services contract signed in the region for 2008 is indicative of a cyclical saturation, further influenced by global economic slowdown, as the number of large deals (i.e., those deals valued at US$100 million or more) declined substantially by 50% between 2007 and 2008. However, the number of vendors participating in the top 100 deals in 2008 increased by 25%. Providers will continue to move "downstream" to get business because that's where the market is shifting. While it may appear that deals are becoming smaller, contributing to this perception is the growing competition for larger contracts by the largest providers, which affects pipelines by showing fewer larger contracts; therefore, providers are forced to pursue a large number of smaller contracts (US$25 million-US$100 million) than they would have before.

According to Mayur Sahni, senior market analyst, Asia/Pacific Services Opportunities, "There is a significant flight-to-quality from businesses today. This, coupled with increased tendency for large providers to disengage from megadeal or large-deal pursuits (especially, where they do not have a long-term relationship with the organization or where the incumbent competitors have the upper hand), there is market opportunity for tier 2 providers that have credible skills and capabilities."

Great Story!
I picked it up because it was one of the few sci-fi books on the shelf here in Iraq- and I'm very glad I did!I really enjoyed it (thank you to whoever sent it out here!).I've been a lifelong fan of sci-fi, and this story- although reminiscent of a Buck Rogers sort of tale, has a lot more going for it.My only complaint about this book- there wasn't enough!The characters are good, and the story is good, believable- you just want more of it- more details, more development- they could have easily tacked on another couple hundred pages and I would have been super happy (I'm sad this book came to an end)... but thankfully it's actually a trilogy, which I'm ordering, and will have to finish when I get home in under a month!

Thankfully I found a good deal on a hardback version, so I can pass this paperback on to someone else here who will hopefully appreciate it as much as I did- especially since it was one of the few sci-fi books in a sea of romance novels (honestly, people send THOUSANDS of romance novels out here- granted, there are some females, but...) The world needs more of THIS- more books like Threshold that spark imagination, and take us to exciting new worlds and futures- visions that give us hope that we'll really get there someday, no matter what we're facing now.

What's interesting, and I just realized- although there is an antagonist, he's relatively minor, despite influential.There's no real villain that the hero has to fight/conquer... maybe down the road, but don't let that put you off!

The story would be great as a movie, or TV series (though the raccoon-like Brows would probably be difficult to pull off without being cheesy, even with today's CG). ... Read more

A Great Art Catalog
Many of you may think that this was meant to be some exhaustive or representative book about the early Los Angeles punk scene. Many of you were disappointed, maybe even snarky or angry that it was not. Well, it is not meant to be a tell all or a sociological tome about the scene. It was a companion book for an Art Show called Forming that took place a few years ago. So, save your snark and enjoy it as just another piece in the history of punk rock in Los Angeles. I was glad to see that they have kept this in print for those of us who missed the show. I, because I was too lazy to drag myself over to Santa Monica to see the show and I keep kicking myself over it.
Anyway, just a bit of information to guide you would be buyers. Cheers.

LA Punk: The Glory Days!!!
Great Document of the LA punk Glory Days! Great Pictures, Anecdotes and Attitude about this Scene of the true spirit Rock'n'Roll. Only Four Stars, because it leaves you Hungry for More. It was originally a book to accompany a Gallery show of the Scene. The Bands and characters are all here. X, Screamers, The Germs, etc. I actually have yet to find a book about LA punk that I haven't loved. Keep 'em coming!

I'm not a big X fan, so...
A collection of essays, photos, album covers, and assorted flotsam; Forming doesn't know what it wants to be. For every insightful look at the state of performance art at the dawn of the Punk Rock scene in Los Angeles, there's a glamour shot of Exene Cervenska. The apparent Queen of Punk Rock, Cervenska dominates the book in content. When other writers aren't tossing about her name, pictures of her dominate the page. Meanwhile, she and John Doe basically interview themselves for the fifth and final essay of the book.

For those who are unimpressed with X and all things Cervenska, there are still a few fun facts to know and tell provided in this book. However, Forming is not the documentation of this crucial musical/cultural "scene" that it pretends to be. (ISBN: 1889195448)

Put this one on the top of your list!
One of my personal favorite punk books. There are great photos of the Screamers, Go-go's, Germs, Weirdos, and X, just to name a few. The old flyers will make you wish you were at those legendary shows. The time line of L.A. punk facts is very informative. This single book is more important to any punk book collection than all the hundreds of Sex Pistols' books combined. A definate must.
