Product Description
"Lectura y Escritura Avanzadas" is a significant new resource for teachers faced with the challenge of developing students' reading and writing skills from GCSE through AS to A2. It is also suitable for us with the AP program. Material is presented in a clear, logical sequence, leading students from simple descriptions through to complex arguments. Students are trained in techniques that help them write confidently and coherently and are encouraged to work together on carefully structured tasks that integrate language skills and content. This collaborative approach helps students to come up with ideas and to develop key skills in self- and peer-evaluation, while ensuring that they play an active role in the redrafting process vital to producing high-quality written work. In each unit students analyze a model text in terms of its structure, form, content and language. The authors carefully guide this process by developing students' reading strategies and engaging them in activities that foster their analytical skills. Once students have grasped what characterizes the text type they are prepared to apply what they have learned to their own written work. The activities get students to recognize, practice and produce a range of structures and lexis. The written outcomes are fully contextualized in terms of form, audience and purpose, and students are guided to write in a variety of styles and registers. The book is organized around the principle of text types. This enables students to practice the breadth of language functions they are required to demonstrate at advanced level and fosters their ability to use Spanish for different purposes. The topic for each unit has been carefully researched to be relevant for AS and A2 level and to engage students in active and interactive learning. A resource for teachers featuring: detailed lesson plans and photocopiable worksheets; step by step to the extended writing required for the AS, A2 and AP examinations; and, full teacher's notes and answers - the work is done for you. This is a resource for students containing concrete writing skills for examination success. It transforms writing into an interactive whole class/group activity. It gives students practical skills for writing Spanish texts. It presents detailed suggestions for using the Internet as a language resource."Lectura y Escritura Avanzadas" is a companion volume to the popular "Bien Lire, Bien Aecrire" and "Gut Lesen, Besser Schreiben". ... 5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite cities.
I went to California State University, Fullerton in the early 1970's, and when a southern California resident thinks of Fullerton those thoughts usually turn to the academic and cultural opportunities there, as well as the celebrities, such as Kevin Costner and Gwen Stefani, who went to college there. However, the history of this north Orange County city is very much tied to the citrus industry. Many fortunes were made here, and leading figures in this industry made their impact on Fullerton, including in the architectural sense.Freddy Fender of Stratocaster Guitar fame and industrialist Norton Simon (Hunt-Wesson Foods), who later founded the famous Pasadena art museum, also had an impact here. And for all you baseball fans who note that sport's return to the nation's capital, legendary pitcher Walter Johnson (the "Big Train") of the old Washington Senators went to high school here.If you tour Fullerton with this book in hand you can see that many of the old buildings and points of interest are still there. ... Product Description
All will benefit from this triumphant and candid story of one man’s victory over cancer when conventional medicine offered no hope. Forty years later and still cancer free, Dr. Morris F. Keller offers a proven lifestyle for SETTING YOURSELF APART FROM the SEEDS OF CANCER in this must-read book about staying healthy — physically, emotionally, mentally, and spiritually.Dr. Keller — having survived colon/pancreatic cancer using only natural methods — was shown a new path and purpose for his life in serving God by teaching others time-tested and learned principles and techniques for healthful living. Tracking a spiritual journey from Judaism to Christianity and a personal journey from Cancer to Wellness, Keller emphasizes the need to revert to biblical truth and to be in partnership with God. A culmination of his seventy-two years of experience, Dr. Keller poses a challenge to readers to re-evaluate their own lives and be willing to change — to improve their own health, the health of society and of this planet. “We can all make a difference”, says Dr. Keller. "My purpose is to teach others how to prevent and cleanse their bodies of illness. I tell the story of how other researchers and Doctors — Kelley, Gerson, Jenson and Reams — paved the way for me with proven protocols used in my recovery from colon/pancreatic cancer."This new HEALTH and SURVIVAL GUIDE — SETTING YOURSELF APART FROM the SEEDS OF CANCER — reveals how Western lifestyles, industrial and agricultural practices influence our health. Both anecdotal and instructional, readers will see the sound reasoning behind and the details for doing a complete body cleansing program, for making healthier choices in life, and for leading by example to help improve the lives of others. “Your body has the ability to heal itself if you give it a chance,” Keller says. “Illness is the body out of balance in more ways than one. One must address the chemical, nutritional, physical, emotional, and spiritual imbalances.”Published for non-profit by the Fountain of Life Church in Belize, earnings will go to support their health ministry.ABOUT THE AUTHORS: Born, raised and educated in America, Dr. Keller and his wife and co-author, Kathryn Rose Mandel-Keller, now reside in the Mennonite community of Spanish Lookout, Belize. They chart a clear course for healthful living that anyone can follow in their book that also reflects Dr. Keller’s diverse life experiences: first as a student, then as a physician/surgeon, a cancer survivor, nutritional coach, chef, artisan baker, organic farmer and teacher.Kathryn — more often referred to as Rose — has a Masters Degree in Art/Education and has put into practice over the past thirteen years all that her husband teaches. Together, the Kellers continue to coach students and present a free Natural Health Seminar called “Taking Care of God’s Temple” at churches or organizations. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book for seeking real health!
I have read many health and healing books. But this book does what I have often wanted, which is to combine the best of many into one. The author does not seek one cure-all program, but instead takes the best from the best. He studied the works of Dr. William Kelley, Dr. Max Gerson, Dr. Bernard Jensen, and Dr. Carey Reams. Then he works these into an easy to understand format that any serious seeker of health can understand. Dr. Keller explains how our bodies work, why we get sick, and how we can heal. He then teaches the basics of a healthy diet, with healthy food preparation, as well as how to reduce stress. This book will not disappoint you.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read
A must read for those who are sincerely interested in improving their health and avoiding health issues.Easy to understand, concise and to the point. You are the only person who can actively change your health.Do yourself a favor, read this book and share it with a friend.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Comprehensive Manual for (Genuinely) Healthy Living and Preventing Illness
SO many books out there that address "healthy living" are presenting a paradigmthat is only a step away from the current (American) cultural lifestyle. This book is Radical. It will take you giant steps from where you have been living, to a far healthier life. The Kellers outline the lifestyle that literally saved Dr. Keller's life when modern medicine offered no hope for him overcoming pancreatic/colon cancer (of which his father and grandfather both died). His story is really remarkable (that's only the start of it! - be sure to read the book's Introduction.)

Even if you don't follow EVERY principle in this book, you will change your health and life by following even some of it. This is the kind of resource that helps you recalibrate your thinking. Some will find it extreme - but extreme based on what? If the average American diet is normal, this book is refreshingly extreme. (But, if the average American diet is extreme - which is what you start to realize as soon as you depart from it and wonder WHY anyone ever started putting chemicals and non-food into food products...?!) then the Kellers are a voice of reason to bring us back to a place of nurturing our bodies and our health instead of using them up. (A great concept I learned in the book!)

I loved the Kellers' description of how the body works - a wonderful explanation that brought the medical and scientific aspects into grasp for me. Very detailed instructions about cleansing and (ugh) enemas. (Not sure if I will be able to come around to that but Very insightful information about all of it.)

This is the kind of book you can't not tell people about - and you'll be posting your little epiphanies on Facebook as you read like I did. I was in about Chapter 3 when I already had a friend in line to borrow the book when I was done. It's such an inspiring book for those who are really serious about changing their lifestyle to foster health and well being. And for those who aren't serious, just dabbling in wanting to know more, it's an arsenal of information you will draw from again and again.

ALSO the spiritual aspect of this book intrigues. It's written from a Christian perspective (with a Jewish background) yet is relevant to anyone seeking to overcome significant illness in their life, or prevent illness.

Awesome book. I want to go to Belize and meet these people!

5-0 out of 5 stars Mature young lady
I recently purchased this book as the story peaked my interest and it had very good reviews.I read the book for the occasion of giving to the church library in honor of my 10 year old granddaughter's birthday.

Excellent story line and Eleanor sure had her challenges in life, but she stayed true to her desires and ambitions.Eleanor is very strong and is a great role model for all young people to meet their peaks and valleys in life head on.Inspite of her mother's personality and her dad's past transcretions, Eleanor loved both of them very much and remained a loyal and faithful daughter.Great ending with forgiveness and love.Highly recommended for all young readers.

5-0 out of 5 stars the year the swallows came early
the year the swallows came early is truly amazing.no matter what life throws at you you can trace it back to this book.it is a perfect book for anyone.you will enijoy reading it like i did.it really is an amazing book.

4-0 out of 5 stars A sweet story.
Groovy's life always seemed pretty normal--until her father gets arrested one Saturday morning as they were walking together. When she explains what happened to her mom, her mom's unconcerned reaction seems crazy until she tells Groovy that she was the one who called the police.

Groovy cannot comprehend why her mother would do such a thing! What could her father have done? After putting off an explanation for what seems like ages to Groovy, her mom explains that Groovy was left an inheritance to use for college from her great-grandmother, but that her father gambled it all away. This was money she could have used to attend cooking school--her dream! Can she find it in her heart to forgive him for taking her inheritance...and her mother, for being the one who turns him in?

This is a sweet story with memorable characters who are all trying to deal with huge issues the best way they know how.Groovy is especially likeable.Suggest this book to readers who enjoyed How to Steal a Dog (O'Connor) and The Big House (Coman).

5-0 out of 5 stars great read!
This was a great book about love and forgiveness. The story of Eleanor (Groovy) and her friend, Frankie, intertwine. Both are stories of dealing with life's hardships and forgiveness.Loved this book and can't wait to try the recipe for chocolate covered strawberries that is included.

4-0 out of 5 stars Sometimes friendship is a risk, but isn't it always a risk worth taking?
In Kathryn Fitzmaurice's book The Year the Swallows Came Early, eleven-year-old Eleanor "Groovy" Robinson loves cooking. She's writing her own cookbook and plans to attend culinary arts school someday if she can afford it. Even her best friend Frankie's stepbrother, who owns a local store, gives her some secret family recipes to go in her special cookbook.

Things start going wrong when her daddy is arrested as they're walking through town. Since no one will tell Groovy why, she hurries to her momma's salon to find out. Momma is in no hurry to let Groovy in on the details, but when she finally does explain, the truth breaks Groovy's heart. Groovy's sorrow for her daddy evolves into anger and Groovy turns her back on everything that makes her life special: her friends, her family, and her cooking. Nothing matters anymore. But when life brings unexpected surprises, Groovy discovers that there is more to every story. Sure, sometimes people just mess up, but sometimes the situation is out of their control. Either way, Groovy needs to decide if forgiveness is worth the risk.

Having recently read Because of Winn-Dixie, this book felt quite similar. Bother were in first person and about young girls, so I guess that's why. This book is a great deal longer, but easy to read and entertaining. It's a character-driven novel, as well. No edge-of-your-seat action adventure in this one. I liked Groovy and the way she saw the world. I liked how she thought her mama's obsession with horoscopes were just superstitions and didn't apply her mama's believes to her own.

I still don't know why her father was in jail. From what I can figure out, what he did was low and selfish, but completely within his rights as Groovy's father. I wish the author would have given me a little bit more there to help with the realism of Groovy's dad's sentencing, because it didn't make any sense to me.

My favorite part in the book is when Groovy shows her chocolate-covered strawberries to Marisol, a girl she thought was a bit snobby about her artistic talents. But since Marisol had shared about her love of drawing, Groovy took a chance to reveal a bit of her heart--her love of cooking--and in doing so, Groovy found a great friend. Sometimes friendship is a risk, but isn't it always a risk worth taking? And if that's true, isn't forgiveness a risk worth taking, as well?
