1-0 out of 5 stars Caveat emptor = "Let the buyer beware

It has come to our attention that copies of LINGER and FOR WELLINGTON purported to have been signed by Viggo Mortensen without personal dedications have been offered and sold on E-Bay. We warn any potential buyers of these books that Mr. Mortensen has not signed any books without dedicating them to a specific person, institution, or charity. These signatures are forgeries. We regret that some people have been deceived and paid far more than the actual listed price of these books, believing them to have been signed by Mr. Mortensen.
Source:Perceval Press, Viggo Mortensen's publishing house posted this warning. (www.Percevalpress.com)

This is not meant to indict the sellers in the Amazon links. Rather it is to offer a warning to anyone that has equal concerns as to how these books can be this expensive when they were less than 50$ when they were sold through Perceval.

Then again, perhaps gougers think if people will buy a grilled cheese because someone claims the Virgin is toasty somewhere in the bread, for over 20 thousand dollars, any fool will pay anything just to say THEY own it.

Caveat Emptor indeed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Welcome to Wellington
Ever been to New Zealand? Artist of many shades Viggo Mortensen did for the epic movie trilogy "The Lord of the Rings," and like many other visitors was struck by the beauty and warmth of this little island country. And as an accompaniment to exhibitions in Massey University and the Wellington City Gallery, he presents "Mo Te Upoko-O-Te-Ika/For Wellington."

Mortensen often presents hauntingly everyday photos, but in "Mo Te Upoko-O-Te-Ika/For Wellington," he shifted toward the abstract. "Erfoud 17" presents a spray of flowers in a shimmery orb, while "Plimmerton" gives us silvery streaks across the darkness. The "Lost" photographs were taken as Mortensen tried to use the flash as a light source. (Waste not, want not)

These pictures are bold sweeps of vivid color, almost looking neon at times -- golden whirlpools against a dark backdrop, two glowing expanses of greenish-gold and electric blue clashing. It's like looking at the aurora borealis through night vision goggles. Color and light are the strongest elements in these pictures, and the effect is subtle and primal.

Poetry, paint, film and photograph are the big sweeping canvas that Mortensen has painted his art on, and he's in excellent form in "Me To Upoko-O-Te-Ika/For Wellington." Fluid, shimmering and thoroughly enticing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A Must Read For Animal and Movie Lovers
Staci Layne Wilson's love of animals is apparent in this book, for she took the time to compile a guide to movies featuring animals, she donates a portion of her earnings from the sales of this book to charities focusing on animals in need of help, and she even bothered to find out the real names of many of the animals featured in the films.Yet, she doesn't let her obvious love of animals get in the way of reviewing even movies where the animals don't fare well.Furthermore, the behind the scenes exclusive interviews with many of the human actors on these films are fascinating in their own right, animals aside:)

I hope there will indeed be a Volume 2 of the "feathered, finned and forked-tongued critters" that Ms. Wilson hinted at in "A Note From The Author."

Product Description
Georg Gudni has said of his work, inspired by his native Icelandic landscapes, "You go past the materials and into the painting itself." The transparent, ethereal quality achieved in Gudni's paintings can seem fragile at times. At other times, it is as though the perfectly contained yet limitless view presented is advancing toward the viewer, layer by layer, out of thin air. Hills, mountains, and valleys delicately take shape through a mist that is at once tangibly and perfectly drawn but also evocative of invisible, faintly recalled imagery that seems to be drawn from the popular unconscious. Comprising a wealth of mostly unpublished material, Strange Familiar brings together Gudni's unique, finely layered landscape paintings with selections from his vast collection of drawings, watercolors, notebooks, maps, and photographs, accompanied by illuminating texts by prominent commentators. ... "...and every time it's a different feeling..."One of the most versatile and sensitive photographers alive is, in spite of having made beautiful pictures for years, practically unknown by collectors and the public at-large. He is Robert Whitman, and we are extremely proud to be able to present a collection of his images that offers a taste of his remarkable body of work. We believe that his work only need be glimpsed for it to be embraced, and wish him much deserved success. Mostly People presents images from all over the world, captured with a sensitivity and a gift for getting ever so close to the skin, to the passing instant, to the dreams we all carry. He works out of New York City, but is a citizen of the world who clearly lives and works as a fully-engaged artist. We invite you to see his people and places, and share the obvious passion he derives from living in the present, moment to moment, heartbeat to heartbeat.Paper over board, ISBN 978-0-9774869-7-7, 54pp, 61/4 x 91/4$25.00 ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing
I had originally seen Dzama's work in Toronto at the power plant as part of The Royal Art Lodge. It was not long after that I found this marvelous collection of prints. I can officially say after looking at the prints and looking at the originals I could barely tell the difference.Save the prints don't smell like root beer.

Regardless this is amazing art work and all the artists at the Royal Art Lodge do a great job. ... Read more
