"Return to your homes
and leave me in peace,
because -- because -- I am
the EASTER BUNNY!"

Nibbles O'Hare and his friend Struts the pigeon are a couple of city dwellers on the run from the owner of a restaurant where Nibbles used to steal vegetables. They find an abandoned playhouse deep in the country, and with the help of a friendly squirrel named Wacky Shellhammer, they turn it into a pleasant little home. Their new rabbit neighbors don't take well to strangers, and they want Nibbles out -- until he announces that he is the Easter Bunny. But Easter is coming soon, and Nibbles will have to find a way to live up to his claim.

Once again, Betty Paraskevas and Michael Paraskevas charm readers with this delightful holiday story.Amazon.com Review
Easter may never be the same now that Nibbles O'Hare has arrived on the scene in this new twist on the traditional bunny tale. A dapper con artist who enjoys stealing vegetables from his local restaurant, Nibbles finds himself on the lam when a wanted poster with his picture on it goes up around town. With his best friend, Struts, a cocky city pigeon, the fugitive rabbit makes his way to the countryside. There they renovate a little abandoned playhouse and start a new life. Along the way, the duo meets a friendly squirrel, Wacky Shellhammer, who moves in with them. Of course, trouble is not far behind. The local rabbit population, led by a particularly nasty fellow named One-eyed Jacks, is up in arms at the intrusion. To save his skin, Nibbles boldly declares himself the Easter Bunny--something the rabbits seriously doubt. To prove it, Nibbles organizes them into a crack troop of Easter egg-dyers and candy makers. When the scam is revealed on the eve of the holiday, everyone but Nibbles's loyal pals abandons him. Soldiering on alone, Nibbles works through the night until each and every basket is delivered. Suddenly back in everyone's good graces, a happy Nibbles is allowed to stay on as local hero.

While the story does have its entertaining moments, Nibbles's dubious transformation from thief to good guy undercuts its humorous appeal. Had he really put his evil ways behind him or is he just trying to avoid more trouble? Because the story fails to develop the main characters beyond a superficial level, there's nothing really memorable or engaging about any of them. On another note, children who still believe in the Easter Bunny may find the overall premise disconcerting. If Nibbles is just pretending to be the Easter Bunny, what's happened to the real one? The vibrant, appealing illustrations--the strongest aspect of the book--are boldly comic, giving each of the main characters a distinctive, wacky look. Unfortunately, the story doesn't do them justice. (Ages 4 and older) --Marianne Painter ... Read more

A wondrous journey through the realms of magic

They call him Lump. Ugly, misshapen -- more goblin than human child -- abandoned as an infant and taken in by a witch, he is nursed by a bear, tutored by a djinn; his only playmates are the creatures of the forest, whose language he learns to speak.

But when Lump inevitably stumbles into the human world, his innocence is no match for the depths of people's cruelty, which turns his heart to stone, and fuels a vengeance that places him and his witch mother in deadly peril. Yet these disasters also send Lump on a journey of self-discovery, to realms deep within the earth and far beyond mortal imagination.

In this stunning fantasy debut, Michael Gruber has created a world that is at once deceptively familiar and stunningly original, a world of cruelty, beauty, legend, truth, and above all, wonder. Readers will delight in the author's ingenious retelling of classic fairy tales and will marvel at the stunning new tale of a boy raised by a witch, a cat, a bear, and a demon.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my favorite books
After reading the Book of Air and Shadows, I looked for another book by Michael Gruber and found this one. After a few minutes I caught onto the joke and had a great deal of fun as Gruber brought in characters from fairy tales both well known and obscure. The tone and style was so different from Air and Shadows I couldn't believe it was the same author. Both books are a great joy and now I need to get the balance of Gruber's work to satisfy the hunger for his work

Product Description
This new BUCKY manga format collection is fun for kids and adults alike. The book features the original Larry Hama and Michael Golden graphic novel. Additional material drawn by Andre Coates and Joel Adams, and written by Peter Stone, find Bucky O’Hare and the valiant crew of the good ship Righteous Indignation battling the Toad Menace to save O’Hare’s home-world, Warren. The entire planet has been turned into a swamp, and the peace-loving rabbit inhabitants have been enslaved. To save his home and his people, Bucky must marshal his forces and create the greatest weapon the Aniverse has ever imagined...the Harecraft Carrier!

Bucky has been a huge fan favorite since the run of his cult TV show in the 1980s, and this funny, cool graphic novel will have fans of anthropomorphic superheroes everywhere hopping down the bunny trail to get the book. This collection bridges the original graphic novel and the TV show to create one cohesive and fun manga style book. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars "Woe And Calamity!" What A Poor Edition!
There's no decent alternatives for "Bucky" fans - shell out the extra $10 to $20 for the hardcover, colorized edition or be stuck with the flimsy, black & white version.

I discovered "Bucky O'Hare and the Toad Menace" earlier in the year in the form of the TV show, and upon realizing that it started out as a comic book, I had to have it. Foolishly, I tried to save some money and went for the 2006-released "manga" format, hoping that it might replicate the experience of the full-sized hardback edition. I was wrong: I was astounded by how un-fun the paperback made the story and its illustrations.

Michael Golden's artwork - so intricately detailed - looks positively squished in 7×5 inch format, to the point that I had to lean in and squint to try and identify what was what, who was who, and from where the voice bubbles were coming from. While I'm sure that an experienced manga-reader with sharper eyes than mine would find this less of a problem, I don't think that a minimized format is the best way to introduce our heroes to a new generation of casual readers. In addition, the quality of production is rather poor: the book feels like a slightly-thicker "Archie" digest, and probably wouldn't last two trips in a crammed backpack before beginning to fall apart.

Since the physical reading of the book won't be your best experience, it's thus easy to note some of the storyline's and formatting faults...

For starters, the book contains two arcs: the original tale leading up to the draining of the mouse planetoid and the shorter story done by Peter Stone, Andre Coates, and Joel Adams to tie-in with the TV show. The lapse in continuity is only second to the notable lapse in art style. Also, even after having read the whole book, I still had no idea of what the characters were like: Willy Duwitt's personality is explored the most, but the rest of the crew - Bucky, Jenny, Dead-Eye, and Blinky - rely on stereotypes to the point that any genuine emotion from them seems very much out of place.
Finally, there's the "just accept it"-clause. Example: 70 pages in, we find out that Jenny possesses some kind of supernatural power. Thirteen pages later, we find out that she's a witch and psychically connected to a secret order of witches. This never has any other relevance to the story nor is it ever explained. Hmm.

Alas, fans, there really is no other way to go than to try and track down that ever-elusive hardcover print. If you absolutely need your "Bucky" fix, then I suppose this will do...but rest assured, the crew most certainly has looked better. Poor funding was an issue in the story - it's an even bigger one with Vanguard Productions! ... Read more
