Excerpt: Yoko Ono Ono Yko, kanji: ; born February 18, 1933) is a Japanese-American artist, musician, author and peace activist, also known for her marriage to John Lennon and her groundbreaking work in avant-garde art, music and filmmaking. Ono brought feminism to the forefront through her music, and is also considered a pioneer and major influence of the 1970s new wave genre. She is a supporter of gay rights and is known for her philanthropic contributions to the arts, peace and AIDS outreach programs. Yoko Ono was born to mother Isoko Ono, the granddaughter of Zenjiro Yasuda of the Yasuda banking family, and to father Yeisuke Ono who was a descendant of an Emperor of Japan. Two weeks before she was born, her father was transferred to San Francisco. The rest of the family followed soon after. In 1937, her father was transferred back to Japan and Ono was enrolled at Tokyo's Gakushuin, one of the most exclusive schools in Japan, which, before World War II, was open only to the Japanese imperial family and aristocrats of the House of Peers. In 1940, the family moved to New York City, where Ono's father was working. In 1941, her father was transferred to Hanoi and the family returned to Japan. Ono was then enrolled in an exclusive Christian primary school run by the Mitsui family. She remained in Tokyo through the great fire-bombing of March 9, 1945. During the fire-bombing, she was sheltered with other members of her family in a special bunker in the Azabu district of Tokyo, far from the heavy bombing. Excerpt: John Winston Ono Lennon, MBE (9 October 1940 8 December 1980) was an English singer-songwriter who rose to fame as one of the founding members of The Beatles, and together with Paul McCartney formed Lennon/McCartney, one of the most successful songwriting partnerships of the 20th century. Born and raised in Liverpool, Lennon became involved in the skiffle craze as a teenager, his first band, The Quarrymen, evolving into The Beatles in 1960. As the group began to undergo the disintegration that led to their breakup towards the end of that decade, Lennon launched a solo career that would span the next, punctuated by critically acclaimed albums, including John Lennon/Plastic Ono Band and Imagine, and iconic songs such as "Give Peace a Chance" and "Imagine". Lennon revealed a rebellious nature and acerbic wit in his music, his writing, on film, and in interviews, and became controversial through his work as a peace activist. He moved to New York City in 1971, where his criticism of the Vietnam War resulted in a lengthy attempt by Richard Nixon's administration to deport him, while his songs were adapted as anthems by the anti-war movement. Disengaging himself from the music business in 1975 to devote time to his family, Lennon reemerged in October 1980 with a new single and a comeback album, Double Fantasy, but was murdered weeks after their release. Lennon's album sales in the United States alone stand at 14 million units, and as performer, writer, or co-writer he is responsible...More: http://booksllc.net/?id=15852 ... Read more

Read more

Excerpt: "If I Had $1000000" is a song by the Canadian musical group Barenaked Ladies from their album Gordon. It was written by Steven Page and Ed Robertson. It has become one of the band's best-known songs, and is a live show staple, despite never having been a true single and having no music video. In the band's iTunes Originals, Page recalls a Maroon-era interview in which band member Jim Creeggan cited this as his favourite song of theirs, which sparked a realization in Page that the song means so much to so many people, and has become a part of people's memories of a certain time in their lives. While hinting at romantic intentions, the lyrics offer very oddball ideas about eccentric purchases one would make with a million dollars. The song first appeared on the Barenaked Ladies first independently released tape titled Buck Naked. The song subsequently appeared on their second and third tapes, Barenaked Lunch, and The Yellow Tape, as well as their 1991 EP Variety Recordings, and their debut CD, Gordon, which would go on to sell over a million copies in Canada, where the song remains very popular and well known. An edited version of the Gordon recording of the song later appeared as a bonus track on the UK edition of Born on a Pirate Ship (this version was later released as a single), and a live version of it was featured on Rock Spectacle. The Gordon version was then included on ...http://booksllc.net/?id=2269087 ... Read more

Product Description
Mark David Chapman (born May 10, 1955) is an American prisoner who murdered John Lennon on December 8, 1980, in New York City. Chapman shot at Lennon four times in the back, outside The Dakota apartment building, in the presence of Lennon's wife Yoko Ono and others. Chapman remained at the scene until arrested by police. A scheduled jury trial did not go ahead because Chapman changed his plea from not guilty by reason of insanity to guilty of second degree murder, against the advice of his lawyer. He had been assessed as delusional and possibly psychotic, and the defense team argued that Chapman was not competent to make the decision. However, Chapman was sentenced to a prison term of 20 years to life and remains incarcerated at Attica State Prison in New York, having been denied parole five times. His applications for parole have been opposed by Yoko Ono, as well as by an online grassroots public campaign. Chapman has been widely associated with the book The Catcher in the Rye, which he carried with him at the time and claimed would explain his perspective. Various specific motivations have also been suggested. ... Read more

Excerpt: from the album Die Ärzte "Geschwisterliebe" (Sibling love) is a controversial song by German punk band Die Ärzte from the album Die Ärzte. It deals with incest and was added to the German List of Media Harmful to Young People in 1987 and is still in the index. The song follows an incident between a boy and his 14-year-old sister, where they are left alone by the parents and then engage in intercourse; it is also implied that this will be repeated from another position. Farin Urlaub, who wrote thes song, thanks his younger half-sister ironically in the booklet of the album, "for her super sibling love". The song features a hard-to-translate slang word, "flachlegen", which would most directly translate as "to lay flat". In the song, it is used to describe the action of making love. Urlaub has said that he used that word, because he just found it neat. The line "flachlegen" was sampled in a later song by Die Ärzte, "Omaboy" (Grandma boy, from Die Bestie in Menschengestalt), which is about a man being attracted to elderly women; "Omaboy", however, is written and sung by Bela B.. According to Urlaub, he wrote the song at the age...http://booksllc.net/?id=11488752 ... Read more

Auszug: Joseph Beuys (German pronunciation: ; May 12, 1921, Krefeld - January 23, 1986, Düsseldorf) was a German performance artist, sculptor, installation artist, graphic artist, art theorist and pedagogue of art. His extensive work is grounded in concepts of humanism, social philosophy and anthroposophy; it culminates in his "extended definition of art" and the idea of social sculpture as a gesamtkunstwerk, for which he claimed a creative, participatory role in shaping society and politics. His career was characterized by passionate, even acrimonious public debate, but he is now regarded as one of the most influential artists of the 20th century. Joseph Beuys was the son of the merchant Josef Jakob Beuys (1888-1958) and Johanna Maria Margarete Beuys (born Hülsermann, 1889-1974). The parents had moved from Geldern to Krefeld in 1910 and Beuys was born there on May 12. 1921. In autumn of that year the family moved to Kleve, an industrial town in the Lower Rhine region of Germany, close to the Dutch border. There, Joseph attended primary school (Katholische Volksschule) and secondary/high- school (Staatliches Gymnasium Cleve, now the Freiherr-vom-Stein-Gymnasium). Excerpt: Some Time in New York City -John Lennon and Yoko Ono moved to New York City in September 1971 and found themselves confronted with fiercely political issues. Living initially in Greenwich Village, they were quickly contacted by activists Jerry Rubin and Abbie Hoffman, appeared at benefits for John Sinclair, and spoke out against the repression of the Attica Prison riots and the jailing of Angela Davis. By January 1972, the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) had opened a file on Lennon, fearing that he would try to humiliate President Richard Nixon, with the expressed intention of finding grounds to deport Lennon. The couple would be tailed for several months by the FBI, and their every move was documented. It was against this background that Lennon and Ono hired Elephant's Memory to back them musically, with the assistance of studio drummer Jim Keltner. Their agenda was to protest against the social injustices they saw in the U.S. Phil Spector co-produced the new studio album along with the Lennons from late 1971 to its 20 March 1972 completion date (coincidentally, John & Yoko's third wedding anniversary).
