Product Description
For the first time in trade paperback, entertainer, singer, and pop culture icon Donny Osmond returns to bring his life story up-to-date

Donny Osmond has been a superstar since the age of six -- one of the few child stars whose popularity has endured for four decades. He's been a teen idol, a Broadway actor, and a talk show host, and to this day is still touring to sold-out crowds. This new edition of his acclaimed memoir fills in the gaps for his millions of fans, with three new chapters providing more fun, more revelations, more faith, more love, and more laughter. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars DONNY OSMOND IN 5 STAR REVIEW SHOCK!!!
I got a hold of this book with low expectations of it being any good, after all, autobiographies are often self-important and full of "controversial" and "shocking" nonsense about people that the famous person doesn't like. Thankfully, there is little of the ego or nonsense in this eye opening book. It seems Donny Osmond has a healthy sense of perspective about fame and, well, himself-neither of which he takes that seriously. We find out about his troubles with social phobia, the dangers of fame, all with a good dolloping of humour. Clearly he realises the silliness surrounding the insanity of being chased around as a teen idol in the early years, and those shiny white teeth and squeaky clean image. One gets the impression that he is a very down to earth person, that, whilst free of the scandal surrounding many famous people, does not think he is anything more than human. That's what's so good about this book, it's humorous and irreverent, and not excessively earnest. Maybe that's why people have taken to Donny during his comeback so much-because he projects an enthusiasm and relaxed attitude that was not there the first time around-he seems like a lot of fun, inspite of all the flak he's gotten over the years. White and Nerdy? Maybe so, but after all, nerds rule the world!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Just a Really Good Book!
With my usual disclaimer of normally not being one to go back to Amazon to write a review, I gotta say that this was a REALLY great read. I was really touched to see that Donny Osmond has experienced anxiety issues and self-esteem issues and that his life on the inside is as imperfect as the rest of ours. If you're reading this, you are either a fan of celeb-biographies or of Donny's, so I think it's safe to say that you will enjoy the candid way he speaks about all aspects of his life. I'm not a religious person, but I am a teetotaler by choice (having seen what alcoholism did to my own mother) so I'm thinking that a faith that recommends no drinking, no drugs, no smoking is A-OK.However, I think the Mormon dictate to "be fruitful and multiply" (i.e., have lots and lots of kids) puts undue pressure on its members to come up with a way to support all those children! When I went to [...] out of curiosity and saw that they want to charge $65 to be a member of the Fan Club (with another category of membership being only $35), and tickets to the show in Vegas are $150 or more....it was a bit of a shock. Of course, this is the entertainment business, but still...The crass money-grubbing just seems like the antithesis of all the more humble sentiments that Donny tries to share in his book.

5-0 out of 5 stars Loved it
I discovered Donny as a 9 year old in 1972, the first time I heard Puppy Love on the car radio (I thought the DJ said Johnny Osmond; my dad had to correct me). From that very first listen, I was hooked.Even now to this day, 37 years later, it's still one of my top 2 favorite songs. So to read him say how much he grew to hate that songs makes me sad, because it brought me such happiness over the years.I became a huge fan, buying Donny's and the Osmond Brothers' albums, posters, books, joining their fan club, and generally buying every bit of Osmond merchandise I could get my hands on.Reading this book brought me back to those golden years when they were always on the radio, and I was constantly teased for my Donny obsession. There are only two things I don't like about the book: his almost fanatic devotion to the Mormon church (and as an ex-Mormon, I know what I'm talking about), and his belief that some of the Osmonds' music could have been considered "heavy metal".I don't know if he actually believes it, or if he's just indulging in a bit of revisionist history to try and make the Osmonds' music look more serious than the bubblegum pop it actually was, but it made me laugh. The part about the French biker gang showing up to the Osmonds' concert because they were hoping for a heavy metal show was beyond belief.Does Donny actually believe that's what they were there for?I think it's more likely that they showed up to cause a bit of damage and mayhem, which is what happened.
At any rate, I love this book and I've read it many times in the 10 years I've owned it (hardcover, not paperback).I wish he'd write a follow-up to let us know what his life has been like in the interim, including the death of his beloved parents.

Loved the book.Got the book when the seller said it would be mailed.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great biography, well written
Yes, I was a Donny Osmond fan growing up.I wasn't quite as "crazed" as some, but I did enjoy the music and learning about a great celebrity.Reading this book gave me a lot of insight; my husband actually had the great opportunity to work with Mr. Osmond about eight years ago and he mentioned how gracious he is as well as talented.
Donny's story is well told and shares in a manner that can make the reader feel he/she shared his experiences with him.His honesty and openness is very refreshing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars A story worth reading
As someone who grew up watching the Osmond family, I was always aware of Donny as one of The Osmond Brothers, then as a solo artist. His autobiography is a wonderful read. It gives the reader insight into what it was like to be part of a famous family and what was expected of them by others and themselves. Donny's personality and sense of humor are very evident in this book, as is his pain as he struggled to shake his teeny bopper image and be accepted as a serious artist. He's an incredible talent and it's wonderful to see him back on the world stage again. Whether you're a fan or just curious, the book is well worth your time.

5-0 out of 5 stars Donny - wonderful story of his life.
