5-0 out of 5 stars Great read...highly suggest!!!
This book is a great read!Whether you are going to the beach and need a book to read or cuddling up on your couch wrapped in your blanket you will get lost in this book!!I read it in about three days!!!I would read before I went to bed and before I knew it it would be 3 in the morning and when I woke up I would have to read more because I was dying to know what happens next!!!I am a Katie Price fan that is why I got the book but to be honest I did have my doubts!!!I thought that it was just another celeb trying to do something new and who knows how the book will be, but I was pleasently suprised when I couldnt put it down!!I suggest this book to anyone who wants a good read and wants a book that they can get lost in!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Good Light Read
I am a Katie fan so i ordered this book. It was a very good read. It is about a up and coming glamour model. It has drugs, sex, jealousy, and cat fights. I enjoyed it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Amazing!
I love a good old romantic book. I thought that this one was amazing! I really think that katie has written a gripping novel. I got so hooked to reading this book that i spent a whole day reading it and i finished it. The storyline is good and it has a very un-expected ending which leaves questions and there is promise for a sequel. Well done Katie!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Luved It!!
The book is amazing! it took me 3-4 days to read! the storyline includes marriage, drugs (cocaine), nearly a rape, posing for a top american magazine (which is gettin at Playboy), love, and what its like to be a celebrity!! ive read all oh katies books and their all brilliant!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Jordan rules!
I have read everything there is to do with Jordan/Katie Price for the past couple of years, and have read both her biographies. Now she's trying her hand at being a novelist, as well as being a glamour model, a mum, a wife, a jewelry designer, and that's just some of the things she does. Next to Dita Von Teese, and Jenna Jameson, she's my idol.

I was quite disappointed (but I always am, I'm so naive!) to discover that she had a ghost or co-writer on the book, Rebecca Farnsworth. But you can tell a lot of it is taken from Katie's own life, including the lead singer of a boyband who takes drugs, and asks her for a threesome, and there's many name drops in here as well. Jordan has visited the Playboy mansion in the USA, but in this, Angel visits it's equivalent, complete with Larry T. Chance (instead of Hugh Hefner), with all his half naked babes. There's also a very doubtful dig at a very famous footballer's bit on the side, who sold her story for thousands to a newspaper - hello?! Totally obvious! There's many others, but you have to read it to believe it, that she can get away with it!

The book's very easy to read, and didn't take long for me to finish. I loved the book, and although I paid a shocking price for it having preordered it, I still love it, and will definitely read it again. I only hope it has a follow up, as Katie has a lot of stuff gone on in her life that she could draw on, and use to her advantage. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars Looked it over once
I was excited to get this book, but found that once I looked it over, I didn't feel I'd be drawn to use it.I guess I need more pictures of the meals to entice me to cook something.

5-0 out of 5 stars Love katie Brown
I've loved Katie since watching her on Lifetime T.V years ago.
Unlike Martha Stewart, she has projects and menu's that are one person friendly.
They are simple, especially the recipes.
The cookbook is avisual delight and brings a bit of Katie into your home.
It's worth a look.

5-0 out of 5 stars A must-have for those who love to entertain!
I originally checked this book out from the library, but after marking a lot of pages of recipes and ideas that I liked, I decided I better just buy the book.It is totally worth it!The recipes are simple yet tasty, and she has some great ideas for parties and decorating. I love it!!!

5-0 out of 5 stars Katie Brown will inspire you with Outdoor Entertaining
Katie Brown's Outdoor Entertaining book is absolutely delightful.

It's packed full of wonderful recipes like Salad Pizza, Crab Dip Crostini, and Corn and Pepper Jack Fry Cakes. Yum. The recipes are delicious but also easy to make.

This is not just a cookbook. Katie has loads of fun ideas for decorating and fun outdoors. For the kids, she has Googly Eyes & Smiles party bags. Those are simple and really cute. I love the way she takes a garden basket, paints her name on the side and hangs that to store gardening gear.

The photos in Outdoor Entertaining are exceptional. They make me want to read more and find out how to do the projects. They also give me ideas of my own to build on what I learn about in the book.

Outdoor Entertaining would be perfect to give as a gift to a buddy who enjoys the outdoors, cooking or entertaining. It's also a good buy for the coffee table of bookshelf. You can pull it out and get do-able ideas and also will feel your own creative juices flowing. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Cadillac of Cookbooks!
Here is the Cadillac of cookbooks; it even smells good! The beautifully colored glossy pages are divided into the twelve months of the year with plans for a celebration party that includes invitations and decorations to recipes for appetizers through desserts. Easy craft projects are clever. Recipes are easy to follow. Mix and match menus ideas are in the back, along with a color index. It's a can't miss entertainer's tool.

4-0 out of 5 stars Inspiraation for Party Planning
This is Katie Brown's fifth book, newly released from Hachette Books. This latest book is all about celebration.

" After all, the art of celebration is what makes life fun - it is what creates tradition and memories."

Brown provides us with the tools and ideas to make our own celebrations and memories. There are monthly ideas including graduations, birthday, Thanksgiving, Christmas and many more. Each month is introduced by an anecdote from Brown's life. There are decorations, favours, table settings and of course recipes for every occasion.
There are some great quick ideas - try using different colours and widths of duct tape to give a picnic table a new tablecloth. There are more involved ideas to create elegant tableaus as well.

What I enjoyed most were the recipes. There are some basics that are sure to become family traditions - Peanut Butter and Jelly French Toast Roll Ups has been tried and enjoyed in my kitchen. And some new twists on old standbys - Whole Grain Potato Salad, Apple Brownies. As well, there are some recipes that are completely new that I cannot wait to try - Parmesan Soup with Swiss Chard Dumplings is on my list. But my sweet tooth rules - there are some totally decadent desserts featured that had my mouth watering.

The entire book is filled with glossy, colour photographs detailing everything. There is also a section with the recipes broken down into categories - soups, main, desserts etc. Brown has also combined the recipes into new occasions - garden lunch, candlelight dinner and more.

This is a great book to follow or use as inspiration as you create your own celebrations.

5-0 out of 5 stars A great book for anyone who likes to entertain
Do you love to entertain but need some fresh ideas? Are you afraid to entertain because you think it's too difficult? If you answered yes to either of those questions, Katie Brown Celebrates: Simple and Spectacular Parties All Year Round is for you.

In this book, Katie Brown gives you recipes, and ideas for decorating and favors for a party a month. She covers everything from a Spicy Graduation Celebration to A Birthday Valentine to Holiday Brunch. At the back of the book she has included Mix and Match Menus (using the included recipes) to create even more celebrations. There's also a great picture index in the back.

One of the things I love about this book is that the dishes and decorations don't look professionally made - they look like something that can be duplicated easily. As an example, I've included the picture of the Wafer Cake she made for a Kids' Day party. The cake is made from a mix and the frosting is from a tub.All you have to do is create the decorations.

I tried out the recipe for Herbed Feta Puffs (from The Welcome Wagon) and they are simple and delicious.I have to admit to "sampling" quite a bit of the filling as I made these.

5-0 out of 5 stars This book really is everything it claims to be -
from the glossy full page pictures, to the simple yet elegant recipes. Katie Brown gives us a dinner party to host for every month. Each month has a specific theme which she carries through the recipes and table decorations and setting. Three projects are given for the table layout for each month, and these are all so simple and inexpensive that even I could do them - and that is saying a lot. I do not craft.

The book is very beautiful, I will make sure to keep it out of the kitchen when I am using the recipes though, mine tend to get encrusted in all sorts of unidentifiable substances.

One of the really great things about this book is that the dinners were actually prepared and eaten by Katie and her guests. The pictures of them enjoying the food are fun and natural. (I especially love that Katie is not made-up to within an inch of her life, but is photographed in her natural state - freckles and all.)

I could not, of course, do a review of a cookbook without trying one of the recipes. So, today I made the Honey-spiced almonds to eat on our salad for dinner. The instructions were clear and simple. The ingredients I had on hand. The finished product absolutely delicious.

5-0 out of 5 stars Excellent book!
I just love Katie Brown, and how fast you can learn from her tutorials in the book!!Fast, and easy recipes will dazzle all ages!!

4-0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good recipes
I'd never heard of Katie Brown nor am I very domestic, but I first borrowed this book from my public library - lured in by the great photos and simple-yet-elegant-looking recipes.I've made 5 or 6 of the recipes in the book and every one of them has been delicious (my husband and friends/guinea pigs think I took some great cooking classes).I'm finally buying my own copy, so I can try out all of the recipes.I like the little personal comments in the book, too - my best sure-to-please recipes are family recipes (my own or friends' families), and this book often reads like a collection of family recipes from a good friend.Give it a try!

5-0 out of 5 stars Creative Companion
This book allows one to take their creative minds to the max...it was easy to plan parties, get together, or kids craft days with this book!

1-0 out of 5 stars She had an opportunity...
To do a better book. I'm not sure this is stuff any normal person would want to do on a weekend. I mean, using an old tire as a planter? An old filing cabinet?Katie...that's called a junk yard.Trash heap.I think you get cited for that stuff in most towns.

5-0 out of 5 stars A Fun , Informative, Helpful Read!
Let me say first off that I really liked this book.To me, in this read, Katie Brown not only gives us some great recipes andproject ideas, but also opens her life to us with some heartwarming stories of her childhood, her revelation of the importance of spending time with family and friends, and capturing moments of life.
I felt the book was extremely colorful, the photos bright and cheery, the recipes mouth watering and the projects interesting.
I certainly may not want to do the projects shown, but I don't believe that was the full idea behind this work.I believe Ms.Brown wanted us all to stop and smell the roses, enjoy life and appreciate those we love and do it all in fellowship and fun.
My opinion is that this work is well worth your time and money; you will enjoy it.

Amazon.com Review
As host of her own Lifetime TV show, Katie Brown provides easy and affordable advice on casual entertaining. Her Katie Brown Entertains offers readers 16 menus for as many occasions, plus table décor and other party projects, including invitations, centerpieces, and favors. Thus, for example, Lone Star: A Fourth of July Celebration offers easy recipes for such dishes as Skillet Corn Bread with Jalapeño and Pecans, plus instructions for projects like branded wooden place mats and napkin rings with a Stars and Stripes motif. Readers who enjoy craftwork in the service of homey entertaining plus basic yet winning recipes should welcome the book.

Events are themed and include, in addition to the above, Kitchen Garden Lunch for Four, Book Club Dinner, and It's All About You: A Birthday Dinner for Six. Projects range from the simple, such as Spoon Soap Place Cards--you write guests names on wooden spoons and tie them to Mason jars containing glycerin soap--to the more ambitious, such as Stamp It, for which readers create rubber stamps (from computer mousepads) to decorate the sides of the dining table. If Brown's recipes confusingly list ingredients before giving quantities needed (as in, "celery: 1-1/2 cups, diced 1/2 inch"), instructions for both the dishes and the projects are clear and easy to follow. With anecdotal introductions to the projects and fully photo-illustrated features, the book should keep many hands busy and many guests happy with the work and food produced. --Arthur Boehm ... 1-0 out of 5 stars Don't let the cover fool you; this book does NOT deliver!
What the ----??? Did Katie Brown blow her whole budget for this book on the thick paper and sharp photography? Because the recipes leave much to be desired...and the Table Decoration ideas are Horrendous! Seriously, I think my 5 year old niece could execute better ideas than these. "Ring around the Candle" is spears of asparagus placed all around a candle, tied with a rope. What?!! Never mind the photo shows a VERY sloppy finished example, but its just plain UGLY! "Bloomin' Pinwheels" are pinwheels, placed in flower pots filled with jelly beans. I think we made these in kindergarten, its almost insulting. "Sand De-Lites" are pillar candles, rolled in glue and rolled in sand. The result? Lets just say they look like something my DOG made earlier today. I shudder imagining actually having a dinner party with the table ideas in this book. Really, I wish I flipped more carefully through this book before I bought it, take my word and save your money for another book!

4-0 out of 5 stars 16 menus,16 occasions, and 16 table settings
I saw Katie on Oprah and Katie's personality seemed very exciting.

Katie's entertaining book has some wonderful photos. Each of the 16 chapters shows ways to decorate your table, and also shows some menus & crafts that would go with each of the celebrations.

Many of the crafts and menus have been done and seen before in other entertaining books. However, the best part of this book (in my opinion) are the photos of the table settings.

If you are new to entertaining, though, this book would be helpful because Katie takes the reader through each craft, in a step-by-step fashion. Crafts are easy to follow. However, if you are a more capable & experienced entertainer, then some of the ideas in this book may be too basic.

All in all, I give this book 4 stars because this book could be quite helpful to those new to entertaining, but somewhat redundant for those of us that have entertained before.

5-0 out of 5 stars A favorite book of mine
This is a must have book.I have used it many times and I highly recommend it.I think she has Martha Stewart beat by a longshot.
This is a book I won't lend out for fear of it not being returned to me.

5-0 out of 5 stars Girl Next Door
I watched Katie Brown's show every day and even taped her show and begin a library of my own to share with my family. She shows you how to take the simplest things around your house and create the most unusual decorations.Everything I have ever made was complimented on and I always told every one about Katie. So many women wish that Lifetime would re-run her shows, especially with the holidays coming.....I think she's great..and you don't need to be rich to afford warmth, elegance and spirit into your home..SHE'S THE BEST

4-0 out of 5 stars Pleasant reading and good ideas

Product Description

Simon Frederick Cynster has a perfect life -- one of enormous wealth and impeccable social status. His lean handsomeness turns the heads of naïve debutantes, while his sensual allure ensures he never lacks for more sophisticated partners for a night of pleasure.

However, Simon accepts that he must find a wife to achieve true contentment. Someone who will spend her days as a member of one of England's most influential families...and her nights pursuing duties of a more private nature.

So he discreetly begins his search at a house party at Glossup Hall...and is astonished that the lady who immediately captures his interest is Portia Ashford. Simon has never considered Portia as a potential wife, but a heated kiss abruptly alters the rules of their decade-long interaction. As Simon and Portia begin to explore the depths of their mutual passion a shocking murder is committed, and it appears that the next victim will be Portia herself...

Amazon.com Review
Setting: England, 1835
Sensuality: 8

A wealthy and powerful rake of the English ton, Simon Cynster has known Portia Ashford, equally wealthy and well-educated, since they were children. By sheer chance, he decides it's time to find a wife at the same time that she decides she wants children and must find a husband. Knowing each other so well is both a blessing and a curse, for when it dawns on Simon that he's in love with Portia, he's well aware that she'll feel challenged by his protectiveness and wary of having her independence curtailed. For her part, Portia feels safe exploring her newly awakened sensuality with Simon, but she’s not at all sure that he'll make a suitable husband. While they're feeling their way through a minefield of turbulent emotions, they're distracted by several unexplained "accidents," and when a member of the weekend house party they’re attending dies, Simon is confronted with the urgent need to keep Portia safe from harm.

Readers who have followed Laurens's tales of the Cynster family will be delighted with this latest novel from the author, for it brings together the "last unmarried male Cynster of his generation" and the lady who was his childhood nemesis. New readers, as well as dedicated fans, will be intrigued by the well-crafted plot, impeccable English setting, and the charming cast of characters. --Lois Faye Dyer ... Read more

I actually thought this book was really interesting, and the background story going on was fun too. I thought with every encounter with Simon and Lauren just made the sexual tension between them steamier and steamier. Yes, there were parts that I skipped, but I feel like Laurens does that in most of her books = putting way too much detail, or going off topic into something else, or describing someone's thoughts a million times. It certainly wasn't the best book by her I read, but it was NOT the worst.

2-0 out of 5 stars Laurens is phoning it in. Skip this one...
Some of the original Cynster family novels are among my all-time favorite love stories. Generally the stories start off with a bang; a murder, a clandestine meeting in the dead of night, something to catch one's interest and some drama to establish the main characters as deep, faceted, and likeable with a major conflict to resolve. That's not this book.

Young Simon was a minor, inoffensive character in the first stories. Portia was mentioned in passing in a later "the next generation" Cynster story. It would have been fine to put them together in a tertiary story line in a better novel as there's not enough to them to make them good main characters. He's a happy-go-lucky playboy who had decided that his life's mission is to make a family. She's an empty and privileged do-gooder who has decided that what her life is missing is a family. Their relationship blossoms as an exercise in cold-blooded if inventive foreplay. It wasn't worth my while to stick the book through to the inevitable consummation; I just don't care that much.

Oh yeah, there's a secondary story line about a young and spoiled society wife's journey of self-destruction, on a backdrop of a house party with a dizzying number of unmemorable guests. I'm halfway through the book, and I guess this is all leading up to some big plot turn like a murder ho-hum, but so far our main characters' involvement with the tension in this story is their transitory "discomfort" over their hostess' histrionics. This is when they're not engineering opportunities to sneak off for some heavily choreographed heavy petting.

I had hopes for this novel since its plot synopsis seemed to mirror my favorite Cynster novel "A Secret Love", a story of two childhood companions who are made for each other but almost miss their chance until catastrophe brings them together; but these characters and unworthy and unlikeable, and the plot just falls soooooo flat.

5-0 out of 5 stars One of my Favorite Cynster books
I remember when it first came out as a hardback that I wanted to read it immediately, having read her prior novels (at the time) I knew Stephanie Laurens was a safe bet that I'd enjoy the story. I did enjoy the book so much that it became one of my favorites that I have to re-read over and over.

I do think Stephanie Laurens does use the same kind of characters and similar plots, but each story has a different back drop that makes it special. I'm not saying that all her novels past "The Perfect Lover" succeed to live up to our expectations, but for Simon's story, I have to say is worth your money. It's not the best like Devil's story, but it lives up to my expectation as a Stephanie Laurens book. For me, it's not worthwhile to read a hero less than ideal to the Cynster males... those alpha males make you want to read more and more. I don't care if the characters and plots are similar-- as long as she re-delivers the magic in a different way, then I'll be there buying her books.

1-0 out of 5 stars Wordy, unromantic, and boring
I've been a romance reader for over 20 years, but this is possibly one of the most unromantic novels that I have ever read.To be sure, it's over 400 pages long, and there are sex scenes aplenty, but the plot and the relationship between the two main characters left me empty.

The heroine, 24-year old Portia Ashford, has decided that she wants to embark on a relationship and experience what goes on between men and women before she decides whether she wants to marry or not.She decides to have a 'relationship' with Simon Cynster. The 'love' scenes that follow are plentiful and described to such excruciating detail that they become routine and rather boring. While Ms. Laurens is very good with descriptions, it rapidly becomes overkill when each touch and look is described to such detail. It's as if Ms. Laurens took out a thesaurus and used three synonyms for every word that she used.I did not actually read this book, but listened to it on CD, and I must admit that my mind started wandering during some of the love scenes, and I was only half-listening to the story being read.

I have also mentioned that the love story left me empty.Although the two characters have known each other since childhood, I could find nothing in their relationship other than the physical aspects of it, that made me understand why they fell in love.Maybe this is because I didn't find the two main characters too appealing to begin with.Portia spends a lot of time going on walks to think about her relationship with Simon, but never seems to come to any conclusions. In fact, for all the time she spends thinking, she falls into his arms at every opportunity with hardly any thought to possible repercussions of their relationship. Her attitudes (not being concerned about having a child out of wedlock, for example) are decidedly at odds with the attitudes of young women at that time.Simon is a little better, and at least realizes that he wants to marry Portia early on.I wasn't rooting for them to come together, indeed felt apathy for all of the characters in the book.

Along with its lack of romance, the story was slow-paced.A murder mystery towards the middle of the book piqued my interest for awhile, but in general the storyline was plodding, wordy, and uninspiring.

I have only read some of Ms. Laurens' books, mainly the first ones that she wrote several years ago. This is not one that I can recommend.

2-0 out of 5 stars A perfect bore
I have one word to describe this cynster addition: boring. I can accept the repetitive characters and the same old plot but what I can't accept is just how dull and boring the first 300 pages were. Some boring parts are to be excepted, as Laurens likes her share of action and mystery and in between the events there has to be time to lead up to the next one but this book was pushing it.

It took 300 pages just to set up all the action and the secondary characters, as another reviewer mentioned, was more interesting than the main ones. I liked the different setting and honestly I'm not sure why Portia would get sexual experience when many men expect their wives to be to be unexperienced as she wasn't a widow but I have no idea what Laurens was thinking this time around.

She usually spaces the action out but this time she just crammed it all in at the end and while the events seemed different, the dialogue and set up were the same, repetitive to the word. It seems to me like she got carried away with the secondary characters and in creating the scene that she forgot to do what she usually does to her books until it was too late: add suspense. The result? A dreadfully boring book. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Inexperienced author!
I have been collecting and selling costume jewelry for over 15 years now. I have over 70 books on the subject and am constantly doing research and learning more. The author doesn't know what Delizza & Elster aka Juliana jewelry is! She has many pieces in her book that she is amazed aren't signed, but doesn't know that they are D&E pieces, one of THE hottest jewelry designers around. Don't bother with her book, there are many more out there that are far better.

1-0 out of 5 stars Bad photos & info!
After dealing in vintage costume jewelry for over 18 years, I am always looking for more resources. However, this book is very disappointing.... average jewelry with poor picture quality and grossly inflated prices. Using this book for information and guide to values is very misleading.I would be glad to sell the author some of this jewelry for a fraction of her prices! This is a book to pass on, save your money!

4-0 out of 5 stars Very good photography!
This book has wonderful pictures of vintage jewelry. It has helped me identify and given me some history about pieces that have acquired. The price guide is helpful if you want to sell to your friends.

4-0 out of 5 stars 20th Century Costume Jewelry 1900-1980: Identification & Value Guide
I like this book.It brings a new generation of jewelry--jewelry of the 1980's and 1990's--- into the forefront.I like the way the author presents the categories--she uses vibrant and lively adjectives for her descriptors. This is a fresh and youthful presentation, which is combined with some traditional views. On the downside, some of the pictures do not have the clarity typical of this genre.I believe some of the dates of the jewelry production may be incorrect.

5-0 out of 5 stars I love this book and use it often!
I have been collecting, buying, and selling antique & vintage costume jewelry for a number of years, and have consequently learned much about the jewelry, designers, and history of this artistic medium. I have also compiled quite a library of reference books thru these years.

This is why I do not completely understand the negative reviews that have been written about this book.At the time I received the book it was exactly what I needed to help me appreciate, and value, the many unsigned jewelry pieces I had acquired!

The book is very well organized with tips for the care of costume jewelry, short synopses of some major designers, choosing jewelry styles, etc.It also covers crystal jewelry: a type that has gotten little mention from other authors, Avon jewelry, signed and unsigned bead jewelry, gold tone & silver tone jewelry, silver, rhinestones, floral designs, and much more, giving short histories, dates and values of each featured piece.

I found no fault with the quality of the photos other than that some of them were a little dark, but not so much that one could not see the detailing of the designs. And, I thoroughly enjoyed the descriptions Mrs. & Miss Aikins gave to the pieces. You can tell from these that they researched, extensively, each jewelry piece presented in the book.

I consider this book to be the 'fill in the gaps" resource I needed to add to my costume jewelry reference library!I use it each time I need to find information on those some of those old (and not so old) "mystery" jewelry pieces that give no clues as to era, designer, or type of materials. And, I usually find something that will "put me on the right track!"

As far as I'm concerned this is a 5 star book!
