Product Description
The Last Train From Paris/Game (Episode 3)

You have received an invitation to travel from soon-to-be-occupied Paris aboard the last train leaving the city on 13 June 1940. Transit Authorization will see you past the military guard. The German invasion brings a desperate bid for freedom aboard the departing train, where more tragedy is discovered - murder! Come in costume and assume the role of one of these eight mysterious characters: KHOVER T. AGEANTE (a distinguished gentleman, Mr. Ageante is seldom home in the British Isles because his questionable business concerns keep him moving between Berlin and Paris); PRINCESS IDELLE CHATTRE (last surviving descendant of the 12th century conqueror, strong willed, beautiful and said to possess considerable wealth overseas); MALCOLM R. CONNTINT (restless, cynical, secretive "Mal" is well-known Parisian socialite); MARY K. TRAIRIE (charming, witty and zealous, Mary has lingered in Paris so she can continue her war reports to her stateside readers); GROUP CAPTAIN WEYLAND W. AWFCORCE (pilot known for his bravery and endurance, his squadron of Laklustre Bombers is proving to be a formidable asset to the British Armed Forces); BARBRA Z. ENHUSSIE (daughter of the late French perfume king, Barb is rich, spoiled and beautiful); DUKE SCHWAZHE B.U. KLARE, (another victim of the German advance, fought his way through enemy lines, young dashing, and one of the most eligible bachelors on the Continent); or BELINDA SCREETE (charming and vivacious American-born owner of a thriving couture house, caters to the wealthy, and frequent participant in the mansions and chateaux of Parisian society). Imagine your home as a luxurious railway car as you and your guests enjoy hours of suspense and intrigue - but mainly humor - as you solve the crime over dinner. So much fun, it's almost criminal!(r) ... 5-0 out of 5 stars The Best of the Series
I have played 6 of these games and I love the series, but none can live up to Last Train from Paris. The characters are great, and the mystery is a good one.THE BEST.

5-0 out of 5 stars It's a murder mystery game for 8 to 10 players.
This game is fun and entertaining. It took us about 2.5 hours to play.It requires imagination, cleverness and semi-lies.We all had a lot of fun.We had never played it before but caught on to the game within a fewminutes. You role-play your part, impart clues and try to figure outthemurderer while pretending to be dining in a train car during World War II. It was so much fun we're going to buy one of the other How to Host a Murdergames. It's most fun to see how the others in the group dress up. ... Read more

Vincent Leonard Price II (May 27, 1911 - October 25, 1993) was an American actor, well known for his distinctive voice and serio-comic attitude in a series of horror films made in the latter part of his career. He made his film debut in 1938 with Service de Luxe and established himself in the film Laura (1944), opposite Gene Tierney, directed by Otto Preminger. He also played Joseph Smith, Jr. in the movie Brigham Young (1940), as well as a pretentious priest in The Keys of the Kingdom (1944). ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars For the love of Vincent Price
I have a great admiration for Vincent Price: he came to the movies with a classic, Shakespearean background at a time where new actors like Marlon Brando were changing the game in Hollywood. So instead of big roles in the mainstream, he had to find a niche in horror and vampire movies. His Shakespearean training and British humor made marvels there. Price talked about his career with humor, and good sense and no bitterness at all. I admire that. It is why I bought the book he wrote about his dog.
Is it a good book? Not really, but it is a book giving you a little piece of the story of a nice couple with an almost ordinary dog. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars GI Joe Official ID Book and Price Guide
This book was a good starting point into buying and selling GI Joe collectables.I wish it would have had more information on sets and vehicles which aren't mentioned much.Over all this book was good.

3-0 out of 5 stars Good but....
I am no expert at gi joe collecting but I did not find what I was looking for in this book. It has very nice color pictures but is extremely specific and repetitive. This may seem good for some people but not for me. It does not include the spec for the Deep diver, vehicles and some equipment. Also it does not include many boxes that you can easily see on the net. I do not know if I can rely in its price guide also. The book is mainly focused in showing one pic of single items and in describing the subtle differences between one series and another of the SAME figure in almost all cases. The format is in two column and you have to go reading from the top to bottom and to the top again so it becomes kind of confusing to read at first.
I will conclude that this is a nice book if you are looking for specific information and not if you are looking for a visual aid to see what item goes with what to complete your collection.
If you want it anyway try to find the lowest price.
But anyway do not forget to HAVE FUN!!!

4-0 out of 5 stars A useful tool
A straight-forward catalogue of Joe figures and accessories from the beginning through the 4" era and on to today. Black & white pictures are plentiful. Not the book for blissful page-flipping and reminiscing, but definitely the place to turn for organizing your collection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Correcting a reviewer
I would like to correct a statement made by reviewer Andrew Walls regarding the "official" status of GI Joe: An Official Identification and Price Guide (1964-1999). This book, like others writtenby Vincent Santelmo on GI Joe, was licensed and the manuscript was reviewedand approved by Hasbro Inc. As Acquisitions Editor at Krause Publications,I was involved in every step of this legal process. I can understand thereviewer's confusion since many publishers don't take the necessary stepsnor commit the time and expense to create licensed or "official"books.

2-0 out of 5 stars Neither Complete, Nor Official
This book has some useful information on uniform and figure variations, but it is far from being a complete guide to G.I. Joe. For a more complete reference to every vintage boxed and carded figure and equipment set, checkout this authors other book, The Complete Encyclopedia to G.I. Joe (1997Krause Publications). Although it is primarily black and white, it is themost complete and comprehensive guide to in-package G.I. Joe stuff.WhenI first heard Vinnie was doing this book, I assumed it would be as completeand comprehensive as his previous book, only in full color, with a focus onindividual and out of package stuff. While there are values for individualpieces of equipment, and many sets are photographed out of package, notevery set and piece of equipment is covered, mentioned, or even listed inthe book. This is obviously not due to a lack of knowledge on the authorspart, but may be due to publishing considerations. I can only speculate.Perhaps Vinnie only had a limited number of pages to work with and realizedhe wouldn't be able to get it all in. If that's the case, perhaps he shouldhave omitted the sections on 1980's and 1990's Joes and focused exclusivelyon the vintage 60's and 70's stuff. I like the format and the idea of thebook, it just seems as if it's only about 1/4 complete. As a supplementto Vinnie's other book, this is okay, but don't expect to gain acomprehensive knowledge of Vintage G.I. Joe from it. This book was notlicensed or approved by Hasbro, so the term "Official" in thetitle is somewhat bogus. ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars Great writing; cheap facsimile edition
Poe's writing has stood the test of time. This edition, however, literally looks like a photocopy of an older, overinked edition. The type is small with a small x-height (relationship of lower case letter to capital letters), which is difficult to read, looks dirty and cluttered, and is indicative of a publisher going CHA-CHING and cashing in on a reproduction of someone else's work -- honestly, in this day and age, would it have taken so much to re-set this book? Make it a bit easier to read?!

The stories are excellent. This is a cheaply-printed edition, however, dated and difficult to read.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Great Book For Halloween
In order to appreciate Poe's writing, it is important to understand that he writes in a Victorian style.

Having lived in Charlottesville - where Poe went to college at the University of Virginia - I can tell you that he was a product of his environment.Chivalry is still very alive in the South, as well as formal address, and a hierarchal social society.

With that understanding, Poe's writing vibrantly comes to life. This collection of short stories includes three of his best:

"The Fall of the House of Usher" - A decaying manor in the country side harbors the melancholy of a dying noble bloodline.

"The Masque of the Red Death" - The aristocracy think they are safe from the plague as they gather in their castle to celebrate.

"The Cask of Amontillado" - This story contains brilliant foreshadowing as to the demise of a mortal enemy.

Another note for the reader is that Poe's greatest fear was to be buried alive, as you work your way through this collection of short stories this theme will appear again, and again. This is a great book for Halloween.I recommend reading these stories at night for a thrill.

5-0 out of 5 stars Prepare to be Scared
One of the first and best murder mystery authors of all time is brought out in these wonderful pieces of art. To think of the demons and struggles this man went through in his life and to be able to get them on paper, just makes them more realistic and scary. Edgar A. Poe, as he liked to call himself, needs to be read and interpreted in a group setting. Therefore, you are able to bounce all the different little aspects of the story or poem off one another. Some may say that all the foreshadowing and little pieces of clues he gives you are coincidence. That is for you to determine.

When reading these pieces of work, be sure to pay attention and take in all he gives you. You are guaranteed to miss lots of hints in your first reading. Which means you need to read many many times. Each time you are given a different perspective and find those little hints. But in the end, readers will never really know what Edgar A. Poe was feeling or thinking while writing these masterpieces.

5-0 out of 5 stars Eighteen of Poe's best tales.
This book was given to me by a friend that was trimming down her library, and a more fitting book it could not have been.Editors Vincent Price (yes, THAT Vincent Price) and Chandler Brossard (no, not THAT Chandler Brossard) have gathered together some of Poe's finest tales of horror, mystery, and fantasy, with a comedy or two thrown in for balance.Poe's horror stories were, for the most part, short and placed emphasis on the pyschological rather than the mystical. His narrators were always driven by inner demons that they recognized, but could not control, and focused on emotion rather than story. The Black Cat and The Tell-Tale Heart are the most famous examples of these. But the author also used his sharp insight into the mind to craft brilliant tales of mystery, it is these tales that remain my favorite. The Murders in the Rue Morgue and The Gold Bug are my choices for Poe's best work, the mystery The Purloined Letter is also contained within the anthology. On the fantasy end, we are offered A Tale of the Ragged Mountains and MS Found in a Bottle, which seems to be a sort of a dry run for Poe's only attempt at a novel length story - The Narrative of A. Gordon Pym.Poe also had a wicked sense of humor, and The System of Dr. Tarr and Prof. Fether, The Man That Was Used Up, and The Balloon-Hoax are excellent examples of that alomst forgotten side of a complex and talented writer. No matter what edition of Poe you get, any collection of his tales is an essential for a well read personal library.Highest recommendation.

5-0 out of 5 stars Aaron's Corner
Vincent Price and Chandler Brossard do a great job of collecting some of Edgar Allan Poe's finest works, in their story collection 18 Best Stories by Edgar Allan Poe.Edgar Allan Poe's short stories left me in suspense and surprise (it was the first time I ever read Poe literature).I could not put the book down.Since the first time I picked this book up, I've become fascinated with Poe's literature.I can thank Price and Brossard for their wonderful choice in stories, but can mainly thank the writer, Edgar Allan Poe, for bringing such great literature. ...
