5-0 out of 5 stars I am a living product of Dick Quinns first book.
I wanted to see what Dick Quinn added to his currant book and how he was doing today.I followed his advice in the first book in 1995, just out of the hospital myself with a heart attack, I have not experienced ANY further heart problems to date. The herbs in combination work 100%. I thank him for his courage in sharing his experience with us all.

5-0 out of 5 stars This Book is HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!
Read this one after "Left for Dead" and all I can say is that Mr QUINN has done an awful lot for me. I have several copies of both of his books to re-read, loan out and to just have. I recommend this book as highly as "Left for Dead".

5-0 out of 5 stars An excellent followup to "Left for Dead"! A must-read!
I completely concur with clangley's review of this book. Death by Deception is the followup book to Dick Quinn's earlier book Left for Dead. In this book, Dick's daughter explains how congestive heart failure is most frequently there waiting for the person who survives a heart attack. She elaborates how cayenne saved her father's life, but how her father relied on it too exclusively to keep him alive and subsequently didn't make the lifestyle changes necessary for him to avoid eventual heart failure. She then goes into excellent detail describing how heart failure develops and what exactly it is. She describes all of the conventional treatments for heart failure and elaborates on the strengths and ultimate weaknesses of these conventional treatments. She then describes a regimen of using natural herbs--including of course cayenne--that help keep both heart attack and congestive heart failure at bay.

I've recommended this book to I don't know how many people. I consider this book a must-read for any male over the age of 35, and a must-read for any female who's approaching menopause, the time heart disease creeps up on many unsuspecting women.

If you don't ever plan on living this long, forget this book! Otherwise, whip out your credit card and order it already!!

5-0 out of 5 stars A valuable book on congestive heart failure (CHF)
I knew Dick Quinn well. I knew him very well. He was a good friend.

I saw Dick struggle with CHF -- the ultimate outcome of heart disease -- and I saw him recover using an exotic African herb that lengthened his life andmade his struggle with this terrible life-threatening illness far lesspainful. For most, a diagnosis of CHF is a death sentence, but this bookgives hope.

This book is the only one of its kind that shows victims ofCHF how to get a life sentence instead of a death sentence.

Dick'shighly successful lifelong struggle with heart disease and its ultimateoutcome - CHF - is an inspiration to anyone struggling with this terriblelife-threatening disease. Dick extended his life for many precious days(years actually) using a variety of herbs that modern medicine is reluctantto embrace. Some of these herbs had instant and immediate impact on hisvitality. I know because I saw it.

If you have, or know of someone withCHF, this book can help significantly lessen the suffering, and increaselifespans. ... Read more

Book Description
Jim Norton is a pervert

in the truest sense of the word. The physical equivalent of a tall slug, he pays top dollar for massages with happy endings and is fascinated by shitty sitcoms and fat girls. He is also, at times, racially offensive and morally repugnant. He spares no one in his comedy -- least of all himself.

Now, in this outrageous, blisteringly funny collection of essays, Norton tackles the topics that are near and dear to his heart: from public events like the legendary Voyeur Bus incident on the Opie and Anthony Show, which culminated in all involved being taken to jail, or seeking a hug from his childhood idol Gene Simmons, to deeplyprivate moments, including a teenage Jim's embarrassing poetry-writing attempts while in rehab, and his inexpensive sexual experience with an unwashed MILF (a Monolith I'd Like to Forget). His stories are raw, searingly honest in their attention to detail, and most of all, hilarious.

Filled with personal photos and nearly fifty candid and uncompromising essays, Happy Endings is one of a kind...and probably best read on an empty stomach. ... Read more

3-0 out of 5 stars meh
I bought the book based on a Norton interview that he gave to Maxim magazine.Based on the interview I expected more down in the dirt sex depravity out of this character and I found it sparse in that department.I expected more 'monster rain' events in his life but instead it was more random journals from his days on the comedy circuit junket. He tends to have the same problem a lot of comics do, which is their comedy doesn't translate well to the printed page...given how perverted he looks with his bug eyes, the physical comedy plays a lot better [especially on Lucky Louie in that stained bathrobe].

As far as shocks go, Dave Attell's new material is exactly what this book should have been.

2-0 out of 5 stars A dissapointing struggle to finish.
I like Jimmy and O&A, but this book was a chore to finish.I was expecting a book of interesting stories of his sexual tastes, but instead it is mostly a bunch of random entries from an uninteresting diary. 3 chapters (if you can call them chapters) devoted to silly TV show ideas? Let's spread them out in the book so no one will notice they are essentially the same thing. When the book sticks to the the topic matter of hookers it wasn't bad, but the rest of the chapters should have been titled,"Who Cares", which is what I found myself repeatedly saying out loud.

I did laugh a few times, hence the 2 stars instead of 1.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
If you are a fan of Jimmy Norton and would like to learn a little more about him and laugh a lot more, then buy this book.It is a good read and not for anyone that get offended easily.

4-0 out of 5 stars Definately needs an X-rating!
Norton pulls no punches in his descriptions of going for sexual massages and visiting prostitutes. He has an amazing talent for being so descriptive that you actually feel that you were there with him. Some of his writing is hilarious while being shocking at the same time.

Hide this book from anyone under 18!

5-0 out of 5 stars What can I say? It's Norton man!
If you enjoy Jim Norton on the O&A show, you'll love this book. Get it. ... Read more

Book Description
"[Morse is] the most prickly, conceited, and genuinely brilliant detective since Hercule Poirot."
--The New York Times Book Review

Nicholas Quinn is deaf, so he considers himself lucky to be appointed to the Foreign Examinations Board at Oxford, which designs tests for students of English around the world. But when someone slips cyanide into Nicholas's  sherry, Inspector Morse has a multiple-choice murder. Any one of a tight little group of academics could have killed Quinn. Before Morse is done, all their dirty little secrets will be exposed. And a murderer will be cramming for his finals. . . .

"[Dexter] is a magician with character, story construction, and the English language. . . . Colin Dexter and Morse are treasures of the genre."

4-0 out of 5 stars "My weakness is guesswork.I leap to conclusions, often wrong."
Written in 1977, this is the third of the thirteen-novel Inspector Morse series. Here Morse is not so well-developed as he becomes in later novels, when the reader of the series has more background to draw from, but he is still a fascinating character--a single man, a huge fan of crossword puzzles, a beer-lover, and a committed student of classical music, who is also crotchety, impatient with his less educated assistant (Sgt. Lewis), and unwilling to give up on a case until all the pieces fit perfectly.

Here Morse and Sgt. Lewis are called to Oxford to investigate the murder of Nicholas Quinn, a profoundly deaf man who worked on the university's Examinations Board, developing the tests to determine future entrants to the university.Security breaches have occurred and copies of the test may have been sold in the Middle East.No one knows whether Nicholas Quinn was involved, and if not, who was. Most importantly, who killed him, and why?

As Morse investigates the case, the private lives of the various dons and their secretary are revealed, and when Monica, the secretary, is attacked and injured, she arouses Morse's finer feelings (a "rescuing" trait of Morse which continues to develop in later novels with other "damsels in distress").With none of the players exactly who they seem to be and questions arising as to when, exactly, Nicholas Quinn died, Morse pursues numerous dead ends and actually arrests several innocent people.

Written fully ten years before some of the best of the series, this novel is fun to read as a Morse curiosity, but it is still a well-developed mystery.Morse's character is obviously still evolving--he makes a lot of mistakes which need to be corrected-- and his relationship with Sgt. Lewis is still "in process."The famed red Jaguar has not yet appeared--Morse drives a Lancia here--and his diabetes and his love of scotch whisky are still unknown to the reader.Morse is a man of integrity, however, and he is committed to finding the killer--his character andmethods to be fully developed by the author in future novels. n Mary Whipple

3-0 out of 5 stars Silent World of Nicholas Quinn
As usual, Colin Dexter is in fine form with his Inspector Morse.

5-0 out of 5 stars Keeps You Guessing Until the Very Last!
This is a truly wonderful book. It's a classic example of a "who-done-it" with the British twist! It is also a brilliant example of how Morse's wonderful mind works. In it we see Morse in all his glory - brilliant, quirky, and vulnerable!I clearly remember seeing this one done on film, but even as good as that one was, it cannot match the complexity of this book.In the story, Morse is afer the killer of an employee of one of Britain's national examination companies. We see the world of the ivory tower in a completely new light, and Morse is almost out-matched by a brilliant killer.Wonderful stuff and a true mystery classic!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great characters!!
This is one of the great books. This book is a perfect example of what makes Dexter so great, his knack for writing great, realistic and likeable characters! Quinn's a sympathetic character; you just have to relate to him.
The plot is, a bit like usual, but hey, why mess with a working formula? The books are a little cynical at times, but hey, we're not living in the days of Agatha Christie writing anymore, the world is like Dexter describes it, "like as not"
Great read! I consider it one of the better Dexters (along the lines of Service of all the dead and Remorseful day)
This is a gret mystery/criem books since it doesn't have the need to follow a formula, or describe VEREY detail of the Police station and the interriagtions. It's a cross between an avergae detective fiction and a great novel.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Brilliant Morse Does it Again!
A very well-written and enrossing story....Morse keeps us guessing until the very end.I found the characters to be interesting and complex, the dialog entertaining, and the story itself very cleverly written.ColinDexter is a true genius. ... Read more
