Product Description
n the tradition of the phenomenal bestseller Fit for Life comes a revolutionary, proven diet program that empowers readers to take control of their health.Forget counting calories, fat grams, and cholesterol. Forget blood pressure, blood sugar, and hormone levels. The single most important health measurement is the pH level in your blood. Now, THE pH MIRACLE unlocks the surprisingly crucial role pH balance plays in weight loss. How acidic or alkaline your blood is (pH levels) directly affects your health and is controlled by diet. For example, if the blood becomes overly acidic from eating too much of the wrong kinds of foodwheat, bananas, meats, and cheeseit can lead to weight gain, diabetes, heart disease, cancer, and more. The Youngs program includes over 50 recipes and explains which foods to eat, which to avoid, and which supplements can help on the way towards optimal health and weight loss. In just weeks, readers will find they have more energy and a stronger immune system, and will have shed pounds and inches.Amazon.com Review
In many ways, The pH Miracle is reminiscent of an earlier generation of diet books. Much of the focus is on an intestinal cleansing program, followed by a diet that is 70 to 80 percent vegetables, coupled with a tremendous selection of supplements that authors Robert and Shelley Young recommend to everyone, no matter what their age, gender, or state of health.

The Youngs point their fingers at candida as a main culprit in the poor health of many people. Unfortunately, they back up their claims with only vague references, such as "a 1991 study" and "a leading cancer researcher." Many readers may wish for more specific evidence, but instead will have to make do with enthusiastic recommendations, alphabetized lists of vegetables, and pleasing chapters with vegetarian recipes that taste good no matter how you feel about the diet as a whole.

Sprinkled throughout the book are short testimonials of people who were able to reverse cancer, improve their digestion, and lower their cholesterol by following these recommendations, and it's hard to argue with the cholesterol-lowering results that a 70 percent vegetable diet will achieve. Still, the medical value of much else in the book remains hotly contested, and as always, it's wise to check with your doctor before starting off in search of miracles. --Jill Lightner ... Read more

4-0 out of 5 stars The pH Miracle: Balance Your Diet, Reclaim Your Health
Robert Young has a great formula and explains it in a way that makes sense. He has put a great deal of science behind his work. I have tried his life changing diet and it works!

3-0 out of 5 stars Excellent!
I am drinking sodium bicarbonate in my water daily--let's see if it works. So far so good.I recommend this to anyone who has high blood pressure or high triglycerides.

1-0 out of 5 stars Extreme diet based on no science whatsoever
Amazing what people will swallow (pun intended) in the quest for good health. This is only another scam to take advantage of people. Why do I say this? Well other reviewers have pointed out that Robert Young's only credentials are a mail order degree and the many other issues of the "ph miracle" theory." So I won't repeat them here. Read the following article and you'll get the full story:

[...]

Here is one quote from that article:

"The idea that dietary modification can change the acidity of the body is silly. Homeostatic mechanisms keep the acidity of the blood stream within a narrow range. Certain foods can leave end-products called ash. Alkaline-ash foods include fresh fruit and raw vegetables. Acid-ash foods include all animal products, whole grains, beans, and other seeds. These foods can change the acidity of the urine (but not the body as a whole), but that's irrelevant since your urine is contained in your bladder and does not affect the pH elsewhere in the body [12]. Thus, even if "body pH" were a primary cause of disease, the strategies the Youngs propose would not influence it in the way they claim."

Dangerous advice is being given by reviewers who say "who cares what the facts are, just do it and see how you feel." Nutritional deficiencies often take years to manifest as health problems. Pure vegan diets, raw diets, and this "ph" diet all have initial benefits and do make you feel better. However those feelings do not last.

Spend time researching and learning about nutrition from real scientists and physicians. Don't look for that magic pill (or diet) because it doesn't exist. Your health is at stake.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beyond the basics and well researched!
I have spent almost 30 years researching exercise and nutrition sciences as a certified Medical Exercise specialist and Personal Trainer. This book is very well researched adn goes considerably beyond 'the basics'.I learned a lot especially in terms of new research. There is a lot of detail that you will not be seeing in the media for a long time, if at all. This book throws a very different light indeed on what we think is true about how we should be eating to stay healthy.Excellent and highly recommended.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great informative book, an eye opener
I amnow re-reading this book. From the first read I wanted to get the relevant information fast. Now I am studying it. I also read reviews and have found little that can refute the basic premise and technical opinions. There is some difference of opinion on cell formation but I don't think its significant, if Young is wrong, well no one is perfect. Nutrition as we know it, is not exact nor is it the same for everyone. We all vary slightly. To those whom have given more negative reviews I would ask, what did you expect?. Do not expect a glove fit of any nutrition book. I have recently been dignosed Diabetic. I have literally eaten tons of red meat and sugar, and both parents have died relatively young (father 60/mother 68 diabetic with heart complications). I thought I knew something about nutrition but my new quest, has brought me to this book and others. The PH Miracle is incredible and credible thanks to Dr. Young. Yes he sells suppliments too but I did not feel it was pushy and he offers multiple sources. I don't follow any recipe nor this book to the letter. I am following it fairly close because it aligns to what I believe is the best human diet, largely raw vegtibles and fruits, nuts, sprouts etc.., good water. This although radical I find palatable. Lots of salad, etc.. I love the subtle flavor now that I'm off sugar and cafine. Keep in mind I ate tons of red meats, chocolate, cheeses, you name it... I have lost 35 pounds with NO HUNGER, blood sugar well in the normal range most of the time, no more headaches, bloating, constant hunger, gas, frequency of urination, lethargy, shortness of breath. I'm full of energy, mind is clearer. I feel better than I can ever remember feeling. Make of this book what suits you. I hope it will at least convince you to purge your body of processed foods. To those that complain about Dr. Youg selling supplements, I ask what do you have to say for those that produce and sell sugar, MSG, white flour (and so much more garbage food) and lie in advertising calling their trash food, in so many words, good? ... Building on the success of their first book, the best-selling The pH Miracle, in this book Dr. Young and his wife turn their attention to what is considered by many health experts as America’s number one health crisis—the growing numbers of people who are seriously overweight or obese. Contrary to other popular weight loss books, most notably those, such as The Atkins’ Diet and The South Beach Diet, that tout a low-carbohydrate approach to achieving weight loss, the Youngs maintain that the primary culprit behind excessive weight gain, as well as many other health problems, is a chronic state of acidity in the body (a pH value below 7.1). Shifting the body’s chemistry to a more alkaline pH, they maintain, will quickly and easily result in the loss of excess weight and the buildup of more lean muscle tissue.

The goal outlined by the Youngs in this book is to replace dieting with a 12-week, seven-step program that is intended to not only rejuvenate the entire body by replacing current blood cells with blood cells "at the peak of health," but also to create an ongoing lifestyle that will permanently keep off the pounds that were shed during the 12-week period. In addition to a rich section on eating tips to create more alkalinity in the body (complete with an extensive list of recipes for breakfast, lunch, and dinner menus), the book also covers the importance of adequate water drinking, proper exercise, important nutritional supplements, learning how to manage thoughts and emotions that can contribute to acidity, goal-setting, and, for optimum results, a two-week cleansing program. In support of the program, the book also includes a collection of testimonials from people who have achieved significant weight loss on the program—further backed up by before-and-after photographs. With an increasing number of health professionals now emphasizing the importance of proper pH to overall health, the information this book presents is both timely and fairly easy to implement. 2-0 out of 5 stars Not backed up with published results
The study that the authors says "proves" his program works used only 27 participants and was not ever published in a scientific journal. They didn't tell how the participants were selected or if they kept the weight off long term. The participants lost a lot of weight (average 50 lbs) in a short period of time (3 months), but nothing is mentioned about what happened after that. When weight is lost too quickly, it is easy to gain it back. For the program to be effective the participants in their study drank 1 liter of water for every 30 lbs of weight (that's a lot) and took a long list of costly supplements that the authors sell, and they were on a liquid diet for the first 2-3 weeks of the program, the length of time depending on how much weight participants needed to lose. They also did a bowel cleanse. These conditions alone could create a lot of weight loss without the costly supplements, but keeping it off is another story. Many of the recommendations in this book are good ones, such as to each mostly vegetables, and to avoid acidifying foods. But it is not really certain whether or not the costly supplements they sell are essential for the dramatic results.Another review that might be helpful is from an M.D. who wrote a text book on pH balance. http://www.amazon.com/Sick-Tired-Reclaim-Inner-Terrain/product-reviews/1580540562/ref=undefinedhist_1?ie=UTF8&showViewpoints=0&filterBy=addOneStar

This book mainly relies on testimonials.I did like one testimonial on p. 6.She combined two programs for weight loss: the program in this book and Weight Watchers, which is a more widely accepted program for weight loss and is backed up with research on thousands of participants.I give it 2 stars because of the food portion of the book, but I'm not sure the supplements are necessary.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great ideas for losing weight
This is one of the most thoroughly researched and scientifically proven ways to lose weight and get super healthy. I've lost a few pounds since getting it a couple of weeks ago. My belly fat is disappearing and my facial acne are clearing up. I have more energy and feel more balanced and able to think better. Even having a couple of cheat days during the program because I visited some friends' BBQ didn't stop me from losing excess body fat.

5-0 out of 5 stars So Far So Good
I read the book, got a lot of water, ordered the PH drops for it, and the green stuff which has all sorts of herbs, vitamins, natural foods, etc.I am not one to be detail-orientated and didn't do what one would do if they were going all out for something, but I have followed the general outline of the diet.I put the green stuff in with some store Veggie Juice, and bought a few items on the alkaline side like almonds, salld stuff, celery, and veggies.Bought some frozen broccoli and Chinese veggies for some quick cooking.I have lost about 20 lbs. in around a month's time.My exercise is hitting rubber golf balls down at the park and picking them up, and bicycling to work about a mile and a half each way.I don't go overboard.I actually get a little confused with the PHing in the book as all the values that are given somehow are given to a very precise total for the perfect alkaliner as 7.365 which is in the same range as what the 'Standard Normal' PH is in the medical field. So I don't get why fat people fall in that range (if they really do).I don't care, so much, as the real test to me for validation comes from Dr. Young's blood tests for people on a range of diets. The ONLY healthy blood is the people on the alkaline diet and NOBODY else.I am too cheap to do a blood test now, but I eventually will do this diet long enough to see if my blood will eventually look as healthy as the examples in the book.I would like to hear from any of those of have undergone any pre-diet testing of their PH's and their blood cell tests.I have gone off the diet a few times with food already prepared tempted in front of me, too. The steaks and Pizza were setbacks as I gained weight those days, but it was easy to go back to 'being good' after that.I have not missed the coffee, sweets, and fast food as much as I thought, and think it's fairly easy to adapt to and it's definitely no hardship at all on my body. And yes, there is a little bit of extra energy about the whole thing as well.

5-0 out of 5 stars The pH Miracle for Weight Loss
If you read this easy to understand book you will be empowered to prevent yourself from any disease 100% and losing weight is just a side product to get there.

Amazon.com Review
Just as Robert Redford is not a typical movie star, Gretel Ehrlich isnot some run-of-the-mill hack hired to bat out a "making-of"book for a movie. Ehrlich is a prizewinning writer with grants fromthe NEA and the Guggenheim Foundation, and she knows her way aroundthe wide-open spaces of The Horse Whisperer, Nicholas Evans'sadventure-romance about a maimed girl, her wounded horse, her horribleNew York fast-track mother, and the mystical horseman who helpseverybody heal and attain higher consciousness. By deciding to directand star in the film from the book, Redford helped make it the mostsuccessful unpublished novel in history: it earned $8.15 million whilestill being written. He did not stint in hiring a writer to do thismovie tie-in book. Ehrlich, who spent 17 years working on sheep andcattle ranches, poured into this assignment some of the authenticwestern flavor of her nonfiction books The Solace of OpenSpaces and AMatch to the Heart: One Woman's Story of Being Struck byLightning. Here, Ehrlich puts Redford's horseman character inhis proper context. 3-0 out of 5 stars The Horse Whisperer: An Illustrated Companion to the Major M
Was a little disappointed. Typos in book and reprint of most photos are poor quality. Many of Redford have had so much touch-up done, he is barely recognizable. I thought there should have been more about shooting the filmand interesting problems they encountered. Fortunately they don't chargetoo much for it, so it's ok. Seems like it was put togerther quickly andthat shows. But interesting nonetheless.

4-0 out of 5 stars Worth it for the photos alone
Just received the book and haven't had a chance to read it, but I was knocked out by the quality of the photographs.Beautiful all round and, sorry, but I have to say it, some heartstopping pix of the eternallystunning Mr R.A beautiful keepsake that seems to do justice to the movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Awesome movie with an awesome actor, director, producer.
I haven't read the book "The Horse Whisperer",but I'm sure it's a wonderfully romantic book. I would like to read the book, but can a person rent it at a local Library?I saw the movie and thought that was anexcellent show. I've heard that the novel is even better because it goesinto more detail about each character and that the mom has an affair withexpert horseman, and has an off spring from that relationship. After all issaid and done she goes back to her husband. I also heard that the endingwas very sad. I suppose in real life that's probably how it really is. Assoon as I can I'm going to read "that book to find out for sure"Robert Redford is such an awesome actor with still a wonderful smile tomelt ones heart, if your a girl of course!I think the show "TheHorse Whisperer" was great. Mr Redford is such a creative person witha different view. Keep up the excellent entertainment Mr. RobertRedford!I'll be looking out for your next movie!

This book is one of the best books I have ever read.It goes into the heart of what cancer really is, which is fungus.I believe this is a must read book for anyone wanting to understand their own body and for those trying to beat cancer.Robert Young knows his stuff.

3-0 out of 5 stars Against meat.If you are a Vegan you love it. otherwise...
Two major issues with this book, lots of pictures of stuff with a caption only. No details to point out what is what, since I am not a scientist I would like more details on the pictures of cells and such. What is what.

Also I am sure one can eat animal protein, drink milk, and eat eggs while maintaining a correct PH. Other books will reflect this. I certain that Young has a personal reason that is not necessarily scientific in this regard.

The book is overall interesting and informative.

5-0 out of 5 stars AMAZING!!!
I bought this when it was a few years old in a used book store. WHAT a FIND! Exceptional photography (and shots of Bob, what can I say, wow) and wonderful writing as well. Made me want to saddle up! A really great look at the west and the history we're losing day by day... Buy it!

5-0 out of 5 stars "It's all that's left. Lula and the corrals and the hills. There's no more."

This book is a bit of an old chestnut and not likely to be found in your local store. There seem to be lots still available as used. It was first printed in 1978 and again in 1981. It was written by Robert Redford ,star of that super movie, "Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid". In 1975 he and a party of 7 traced the Outlaw Trail which extended from the Canadian border all the way to Mexico. It was along this trail that many of the outlaws operated, lived and hid out during the gunslinger days of the OldWest. Anyone who likes the legends and stories of this period that started shortly after the Civil War and pretty much ended around 1910; will be familiar with many of the locations the party visited.
Along the way they met up with the people who are still living and are descended from these famous outlaws. We almost feel that we are travelling along with them as we visit these old towns, buildings and hideouts.Fortunately,National Geographic sponsored the trip and as a result many wonderful pictures were taken showing what remains today. These modern day pictures are included along with a whole array of pictures of the pepole and places at the time.
It is sad to see so much of this history disappearing at such an alarming rate ,all in the name of progress. They did this trip 30 years ago so most likely many of the characters we areintroduced to are no longer alive and maybe even a lot of the buildings are also gone.
Nonetheless this book is a fine reminder of what the Old West was really like; and well worth looking for if you like reading about this interesting period of American History.
