5-0 out of 5 stars A fantastic guide to Power Walking by a former Mr. Universe, the late great Steve Reeves.
As an old fan of Steve Reeves when he was a legend in bodybuilding, I bought this book when it first came out in 1982 and it has been in my vast collection since that time.It covers Mr. Reeves method of vigorous walking, which he terms "power walking."This classic text covers how he developed his walking method, why walking may be better than running, stretching movements, evaluating your progress, winning the losing game, mobile meditation, super fitness, questions and answers about power walking, and making health your top priority. In conclusion, this is a book for anyone who wants a simple but effective total fitness walking program. Rating: 5 Stars.Joseph J. Truncale (Author:Monadnock Defensive Tactics System, Use of the Monadnock Straight Baton, PR-24 Police Baton Advanced Techniques, Martial Art Myths, Season of the Warrior: a poetic tribute to warriors, Never Trust a Politician).

5-0 out of 5 stars LOWIMPACT HIGH RESULTS
I got his book when it first came out in 82-83 as a high school athletelooking for ways to crosstrain and get ready for marine Bootcamp. I did this for three months prior to Marine Boot Camp, a 3 month, strength and endurance proposition as any Marine can tell you. I graduated honor man in my Platoon and have been in the military for 22 years at this time. I reccommend this program to any age, especially if you are coming off a knee surgery or other overuse injuries. Or if you are new to fitness, it was definitley ahead of it's time. I have since Lost my copy, plan to order another one and reccommend this program to others, it's cheap and you get what you put into it, like any excercise program. All you need are some good shoes and 10 dollar dumbells you can buy at wallyworld. RIP Steve, you were a great inspiration to me....

4-0 out of 5 stars want to lose a lot of weight and get ripped?
A bit dated in terms of the pictures and very basic info, Steve does a great job of motivating the reader to get and stay fit by power walking. If the internet in its commercial form had been available when this book was written, Steve would have started a power walking revolution!

It is not a book about olympic style speed walking but rather a book for a lifestyle change. I applaud the author, as he was ahead of his time. It might be in print again; if so, get it! ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars An Excellent Book on Natural Training
I have a number of books and courses on bodybuilding and fitness. Steve Reeves' "Building the Classic Physique the Natural Way" is one of the best I have ever read. It not only deals with how he trained for competitions, but also to stay in shape. There are chapters on power walking, and nutrition. One of the most valuable chapters for me is the one on training for people over 50. Most everything out there is directed towards people in their 20's.This book is a valuable resource that I will be referring to often.

3-0 out of 5 stars A great read but very poor training advice.
First of all, I *do* enthusiastically recommend this book because it is a fun and interesting read and it also contains dozens of amazing pictures of Steve Reeves (who surely had one of the greatest physiques of all time) and other famous physique champions from a time that some call the golden era of body-building. It also contains some information that is fascinating and certainly worth reading including Reeves's take on Power Walking, his excellent nutritional advice, his "rules to live by" which while not necessarily practical, are nonetheless very interesting and much more.

Why only 3 stars from me then? The training advice. The training advice Reeves gives is, in a word, ludicrous. Reeves recommends three full body workouts a week on a Monday, Wednesday, Friday type split with each workout lasting from two and a half to three hours, taking every set to failure on every exercise in a routine that includes heavy compound movements such as squats, bench presses, military presses and dozens of other exercises. Each body part is hit with up to 12 sets during the workout as well. I'm sorry but I can guarantee that anyone who is not genetically gifted from a body-building perspective and seriously tries to follow such a routine will end up chronically overtrained within a couple of weeks. You cannot squat to failure for 12 sets, multiple times per week for very long before either injury or overtraining and/ or sickness stops you dead in your tracks.

Reeves also offers advice about ideal proportions for what he calls "The Classic Physique" which are basically just his proportions from when he was in top form. This advice is just stupid since we are all built differently and some of these goals will just be unreachable for a lot of people. Take the notion of getting identical measurements for the circumference of your calves, biceps and neck. For a lot of people this just won't be possible because of the way their body is structured.

It is evident that Reeves was genetically blessed; in the book he mentions that he had to stop training his calves because they were getting too big. He also says that when he was in Europe making films he only really had to work out for a month a year to maintain his amazing physique. He also talks about going from relatively poor condition to Mr America winners status in a month of training. I'm sorry but a guy like that would have succeeded on almost any program he chose to follow. The fact that he looked the way he did is NOT a reflection of his incredible training knowledge but of his genetic superiority.

For normal people looking to make maximum muscle gains within the genetic limitations nature gave them, I recommend the books of Mike Mentzer, Stuart McRobert or the website of Drew Baye for accurate training information. There has also been a new book just released by Doug McGuff MD and John Little entitled "Body by Science" which I can highly recommend for those looking to understand the facts of exercise science. You can read my review on that book by searching for it right here on Amazon.

Reeves's book is a great read and certainly recommended for the entertainment value but the training advice, whilst interesting, is just nonsense.

5-0 out of 5 stars Building the classic physique the natural way
I would highly recommend this book for anyone, wanting to build their body the natural way! Written by Steve " Hercules " Reeves himself, the information is invaluable! Reeves built his body, and kept it in excellent condition with 3 workouts a week, total body! It has everything one would need to just stay in shape,or train for any sport, including bodybuilding..True,you won't be Ron Coleman or Jay Cutler,Mr Olympia winners, but you could be a Frank Zane,a three time Olympia winner and still look like a human being. I feel this is the best bodybuilding the natural waybook, ever done and again I highly recommend it!

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book and it isn't out of print!
This is a book you have to own.I looked on this site and the only copies are used.Everyone thinks it is out of print, but it is NOT out of print.Google the Steve Reeves International Society. You can buy the book brand new from here.I bought this book and the second book of Steve Reeves. You can get each for $25.

5-0 out of 5 stars Training Book for any age group
I read all type of training and fitness books and this one is a classic. It is timeless, if you're 21 or 58 (which I am) you can use the information and the routines to get where you want to go providing you do the work. When you view the pictures of Steve you will say I would like to look like that. Broad shoulders, big chest, very tampered waist, good legs, symmetry , his physique truly is a classic that any man would like to have. Routines, working out around injuries, nutrition, power walking ,
and many frequently asked questions all of us have. After you buy and read the book put it up for sale on Amazon and recoup your investment .
You will be glad you obtained the book ,the Best I've read... you'll see! ... Read more

An understanding of logic is essential to computer science. This book provides a highly accessible account of the logical basis required for reasoning about computer programs and applying logic in fields like artificial intelligence. The text contains extended examples, algorithms, and programs written in Standard ML and Prolog. No prior knowledge of either language is required. The book contains a clear account of classical first-order logic, one of the basic tools for program verification, as well as an introductory survey of modal and temporal logics and possible world semantics. An introduction to intuitionistic logic as a basis for an important style of program specification is also featured in the book. ... Read more

A lecturer at Hamilton 's University of Waikato and at the Hamilton Teacher's Training College, he was elected leader of the Social Credit Party (which he had joined in 1969) in 1972, at a time when the party was in disarray and many were questioning its chances of survival. A brilliant organiser and an electrifying speaker, Beetham succeeded in rebuilding the party, and by the late 1970s it was challenging the stranglehold on the two-party system of the long-dominant National and Labour parties. Early days Born in New Plymouth Beetham attended New Plymouth Boys' High School from 1951-1955. He then went onto the Auckland Secondary Teachers College where he eventually acquired a BA (honours) in History and later an MA. After joining the Social Credit Party during the 1969 general election campaign he was elected as one of the vice presidents of the party in 1971. Also in 1971 he ran his first election campaign, an unsuccessfully attempt for a position as a Hamilton City Councillor. His rapid rise in the Social Credit ranks was complete when he was elected Leader in 1972. He presided over Social Credit's 1972 and 1975 election campaigns, in which they failed to get any members elected. Mayor of Hamilton In 1976, Beetham was elected Mayor of Hamilton in a byelection to replace Mike Minogue , who had resigned to take up a seat in Parliament . One of his early ideas as Mayor was to finance municipal projects with interest-free "rates vouchers", but the co... ... Read more

Product Description
This fiction thriller is based on the real life experiences of a commercial pilot and gives you an exciting insider view of what it takes to fly a jet while managing crew, passengers—and a terrorist!

Captain Mike Rendell started out his workday like all the workdays before – just another normal day of flying. After spending a raucous night partying with his crew, he and his first officer were looking forward to a nice relaxing flight to the West Coast.

“Flaps 1, climb power”, Mike repeated as he responded to the command of Gary Ellis, his new-hire First Officer.Mike positioned the flap lever from the “5" spot to the “1" spot and retarded the thrust levers to approximately eighty-eight percent of full power. This was the standard “after take-off” configuration and gave the aircraft its’ best rate of climb in relation to burning the least amount of fuel.Pacifica Airlines Flight 762 had just departed from Chicago’s Midway Airport. On board the Boeing 737 were 137 passengers, three flight attendants, and two pilots.

However, it didn’t take long for events to unfold that would thrust Captain Rendell and his crew into one of the most terror-filled days of their commercial airline careers. The lives of his flight attendants and his passengers hung in the balance as Mike battled the elements, a deranged passenger, and aircraft malfunctions as he attempted to bring his fully loaded jumbo jet in for a safe landing….

Author BIO
Captain Steve A. Reeves started flying airplanes from a dirt strip located adjacent to a cotton field in northeast Arkansas. He took great pride in his ability to chase rabbits down the plowed rows of the fields – and live to tell about it.However, it didn’t take long for him to realize that chasing rabbits didn’t pay very well.He packed his bags and headed to the University of Kentucky.

Upon graduating from college, he accepted a commission in the United States Navy. After one tour of duty, he thought that he’d had enough of flying and returned to the civilian world to pursue a career in construction management. One day while standing in the middle of a job site, Steve looked up in the sky to watch a commercial airliner fly over. The attraction was too powerful – he knew that he had to return to the sky.

Twenty-one years later, Steve has logged over 12,500 hours in civilian, military, and commercial aircraft. He is a captain for a major airline and resides in Texas with his wife, Stacy, and their two daughters, Keegan and Kayleigh.
