5-0 out of 5 stars Definitely not a Norman Rockwell Thanksgiving season
As this, the second in the GOSSIP GIRL series opens Thanksgiving, and more importantly Blair's 17th birthday and shortly after the deadline for college applications - all important events on the social scene of the teen A-listers of Manhattan society. The first glitch in the plans arrives when Blair and Nate are once again attempting to 'do the deed' when they are, once again interrupted. This time it is Blair's newly slimmed down and happy mother who unwittingly saves her daughter's virginity when she announces her engagement to the seriously EWWWW Cyrus Rose.Completely obvious to just what had been taking place behind Blair's closed bedroom door the soon to be former Mrs Waldorf announces that the wedding will take place Thanksgiving weekend, completely forgetting that the date is also her only daughter's birthday and completes the disaster by naming all of Blair and all of her best friends as her bridesmaids - including Blair's best friend Serena.Obviously Mom is unaware that Blair and Serena had not been friends for more than a year.

Meanwhile among the rest of the crew college applications loom large, leading to road trips and interviews to the Ivys (and are there really any other schools worth mentioning?) of their choice, padding the resumes with a few more extracurriculars and awards while dealing with the ever shifting alliances on the romantic front.

This popular series of novels is aimed at the young adult (15 and older) audience and focuses on the lives of the ultra rich prep school crowd of Manhattan. The overall story arc of this series is quite pronounced so for maximum enjoyment the series should be read in order.

4-0 out of 5 stars gossip girl you know you love me
i like this book but its a lttle racey. also it is kida the same story as the first book. not much difference between the two. its pretty entertaining though so i guess its a good book but not a must read

5-0 out of 5 stars Granddaughter request....
I haven't the faintest idea of whether this book is good or bad.All I know is that my 12-year old granddaughter loves the series, and she has managed to be a teriffic kid despite it, and anything that gets her to read is a good thing.

1-0 out of 5 stars Absolute Trash!
This entire book series and the accompanying television show are a prime example of everything that is wrong with the United States today.I work in a library and I couldn't help but notice that all the teenage girls seem absolutely enraptured with these books.Being in my mid-twenties, I was curious to know what the big deal about them was. I assumed they must be akin to the Sweet Valley High books from my teen years.

I checked out the second book in the Gossip Girl Series "You Know You Love Me" because it was the only one even REMOTELY available--the rest had hold request after hold request after hold request.Anyway, I eagerly opened the book anticipating something special.Instead, I had to read no further than the second page to get the gist of what these books are about.

In the first chapter, we meet, or get reaquainted with (depending on how many of these things a person has read) Blair, one of the main characters. It is immediately apparent that Blair is condencsending and shallow. The first chapter makes it clear to us that her number one priority is to have the best of everything no matter WHAT the cost and to throw her virginity away as fast as possible.I was sickened.

As I read on, I met the other cast of characters and was equally unimpressed. We have the glorified druggie/god that every girl wants but who is boyfriend to Blair, the queen. We have the rival beauty who makes misbehavior her middle name.We have the adolescent who is seduced by the druggie/god because of the size of her breasts.

Basically, this book (and I imagine the rest of the series) glorifies promiscuity, drugs, maliciousness, and selfishness.I kept reading hoping that I would find at least one undertone of disapproval for these characteristics and I couldn't find a single one.Blair the main character is even bulemic and there is no message of "hey but she shouldn't be because that isn't cool."Nothing like that.Instead, all of these vices are completely glamorized and marketed to our youth. As if glamorization of such Hollywood idiots like Paris Hilton and Britany Spears weren't enough, now we have our young girls reading this kind of garbage and absorbing a completely damaging message. The really scary thought for me is that I suspect most parents have no idea what their daughters are reading. This is not some innocent, cute, fun little series but rather something very disturbing to anyone who has a single shred of moral decency.I would encourage any girls who are thinking about trying the Gossip Girl series to look elsewhere.Any parents wondering if this is material appropriate for their teens and preteens, I assure you, it isn't.I wouldn't have even given it ONE star except you were required to give at least that.

5-0 out of 5 stars Another hit!
They say that sequels are always worse than the orginal. This old time saying is not true with that of Gossip Girl. If any thing these books are getting better everytime I read them.

Here is the rundown of the scandalous life of the Upper East Side. Blair has decided that she is finally going to have sex with Nate, but how many times has she said that before? Sorry Blair but your plan is turning towards the worst again. Right as Blair and Nate get close her Mom interrupts and announces that she is engaged to her not so impressive boyfriend Cyrus and they are going to get married on her birthday!

In other news and troubles, all the kids are getting ready for college and preparing for college interviews. How do they do?, well if I told you I would ruin a great story line.

Serena is also getting to know Dan a little more, but she isn't sure if she likes what she sees. You see Dan has this problem with being a little to emotionally affectionate for Serena's taste.

Overall I would definitly recommend this book but I would recommend the whole series because they are definitly page turners. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars The horseman comes, and tonight he comes for you!
There are only a handful of movies that I consider to be the true Halloween classsics... and "Sleepy Hollow" is one of them. Loosely adapted from Washington Irving's story, this Tim Burton classic is part romance, part detective story, and part gothic horror -- and Johnny Depp helps elevate it to a brilliant supernatural thriller.

Constable Ichabod Crane (Johnny Depp) is sent to the tiny town of Sleepy Hollow to investigate a series of murders. He soon learns that the locals believe that a monstrous undead Hessian known as the Headless Horseman is the one who's beheading people. As a rational man of science, Ichabod thinks this is ridiculous... until he has a close encounter with the Horseman after he committed some of his murders.

But Ichabod is still convinced that someone living is controlling the Horseman, and it's all wrapped up in a complex scheme involving a pregnancy, a marriage, a will, and a tangled family tree. But as deaths stack up and heads roll, Ichabod and his orphaned servant Masbeth (Marc Pickering) discover that they are up against evil that they couldn't have even imagined.

"Sleepy Hollow" is vintage Tim Burton, back when he was a little more restrained about said style -- everything is painted in blacks, whites and greys with brief splashes of color (BLOOD!), eerie gothic buildings, and skeletal trees. And there's that little edge of rickety weirdness, especially when Depp whips out his buggy-eyed binoculars.

Now, it's not perfect -- the witch's hentai-tongue/eyeballs always make me burst out laughing. But Burton really infuses this movie with a sense of creeping, bloody horror that gets more and more nightmarish, peppered with moments of bleak humor (Ichabod trying to throttle the Horseman) and some really disturbing beheadings. It's a pretty sharp contrast to the rather sweet, shy romance between Ichabod and his host's daughter, Katrina Van Tassel.

As for Depp, he's absolutely perfect -- he plays Ichabod Crane as a young man with a horrifying past (which is revealed via dreams) and an abiding love for logic, science and reason. He's also pretty nervy, fragile and neurotic; how often do you see movie heroes who faint more often than the heroines?

Christina Ricci is rather wooden at first, but she improves a lot as we discover some of the secrets she keeps hidden. Pickering is excellent as a young orphan who latches onto Ichabod as a surrogate father, and Miranda Richardson is all spidery creepiness as Lady Van Tassel. Also keep an eye out for Christopher Lee, Michael Gambon and Christopher Walken's hilariously over-the-top Horseman.

"Sleepy Hollow" is all creepy atmosphere and weirdness, but it also has a solid story at its center. Blood, magic and a deranged undead horseman, all done with Tim Burton's gothic style.

5-0 out of 5 stars Sleepy Hollow is wonderfully made
Sleepy Hollow is wonderfully done. It has unique and interesting characters, plenty of plot twists, and both the scenery and clothing are magnificent. The movie jumps right in to the action, which I found refreshing. There is a lot of suspense and it is difficult to guess what is going to happen next. This movie is awesome.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great for Johnny Depp Lovers!
This movie is on my favorites list.If you love Johnny Depp, you'll love this movie.

5-0 out of 5 stars Don't the Bluray! Buy the HDDVD!
I have both versions of Sleepy Hollow after buying the Bluray I was hugely let down by the worse than vhs quality of the picture. I managed to find a copy of the HDDVD to download and the picture quality is a thousand times clearer. Find the HDDVD copy don't bother with the Bluray.

5-0 out of 5 stars Heers Johnny!!
Johnny Depp is in fine form in this Tim Burton reworking of the classic Sleepy Hollow Fable. Instead of the bumbling country boy Ichabod of the original story Depp plays a bumbling New York City detective sent to investigate the murders taking place in the Hollow. His scientific methods using strange tools and powders of of his own invention are useless in solving the case because as he finally realizes he is dealing with the supernatural in the form of the Headless Horseman played by a very creepy Christopher Walken. Christina Ricci is
beautiful as Katrina Van Tassel and a perfect foil for Depp to play against. The supporting cast is also outstanding making the film a delight to watch. ... Read more
