5-0 out of 5 stars Horrid Henry Tricks the Tooth Fairy - Scurvy Sufferers need not apply
I bought this book for the 6 year old daughter of a friend who has moved from London, England to Houston with her family.I chose the tooth fairy one as six year olds' teeth seem to fall out with such frequency that you question whether they've developed scurvy overnight!

Horrid Henry (HH) is a popular fellow back here in Blighty on account of being rather naughty - we have a particular fondness for school boys thumbing their noses at authority - HH seems to be picking up from where Richmal Crompton's Just William left off with the previous generation. (see [...]).

My friend has said that her two daughters (aged 6 and 4) love the book but are a bit shocked about how naughty Henry is and don't always seem to appreciate the humour (however I think this is written as much for tiredparents reading to offspring at the end of a long day as much as for the youngsters!)

There are also many more Horrid Henry books to choose from..........

Do you like tricking the tooth fairy? If so, you should get this book. It's called Horrid Harry Tricks the Tooth Fairy. It's about all of Harry's classmates and his brother's lost a tooth. One night Harry went to his brother's room and stole his tooth. Can you figure out what will happen? My favorite part was when Harry juggled rings. I recommend you should buy this book because it will make you laugh. Get started laughing!

"When Perfect Peter's tooth falls out, Henry gets a great idea. He will steal the tooth and put it under his own pillow so that the Tooth Fairy gives him the reward instead of Peter. Will the Tooth Fairy fall for it?"

Horrid Henry is a fictional character created by Francesca Simon and illustrated by Tony Ross. The first Horrid Henry was written and published in 1994 and as of the end of 2008, there have been sixteen titles published, as well as numerous collections, activity books and joke books.

Horrid Henry Tricks the Tooth Fairy is the 3rd book in the continuing tales of Henry and his family and friends. This book contains the following stories: "Horrid Henry Tricks the Tooth Fairy," "Horrid Henry's Wedding," "Moody Margaret Moves In," and "Horrid Henry's New Teacher."

Margaret spying on his treasures, sleeping in his bed, playing with his toys while he had to share a room with Peter ...
and so begins my favorite story of this book. Moody Margaret lives next door to Horrid Henry and she will be spending two weeks with Henry's family while her own family is on vacation. Will this be the beginning of World War III? Moody Margaret does not like Horrid Henry and Horrid Henry does not like Moody Margaret. But Henry's parents soon learn that Margaret and Henry are cut from the same cloth. ... Read more

5-0 out of 5 stars Kid's Review
This funny book is about a boy named Henry and is usually always doing wrong things. It is one of the best books that I have read in my life. In the book the weirdest thing that he did wrong is that he tricked his parents and said that he will study his words for tomorrow's test and just reads a comic book instead. The next day he just copied somebody's test. Read the book to see what happens at the end. It is by Francesca Simon. I would recommend this book to everyone especially if they laugh a lot.

4-0 out of 5 stars Courtesy of Mother Daughter Book Club.com
Horrid Henry is always trying to get out of things: going to school, eating vegetables, writing thank you notes for gifts, a baby's baptism... He also spends a lot of energy coming up with schemes that he thinks will help him get his way. And often he's pitted against his younger brother, Perfect Peter, who is everything a parent could love in a child that Henry is not.

The series of books that has Horrid Henry trying out one scheme after another is really funny for beginning readers. Three new additions have been added to the series this fall: Horrid Henry and the Mummy's Curse, Horrid Henry's Underpants, and Horrid Henry and the Scary Sitter.

Each book has four stories all featuring Henry living down to expectations in some way. Many times his plotting is found out and foiled by parents and teachers, but sometimes his elaborate plans to get his way at the expense of others actually succeed. Kids will love to see how he gets in and out of his scrapes with authority.

The Horrid Henry books by Francesca Simon has delighted nearly 15 million young readers in 27 languages since the series started. Younger siblings of mother-daughter book club members are sure to be happy with these new additions.

5-0 out of 5 stars Horrid Henry is at it again!
My ten-year old, John, and I decided to do a joint review of the title story The Mummy's Curse.

In Horrid Henry and the Mummy's Curse, Henry is doing what he does best-being horrid and getting into trouble.Since he is unable to share his toys with his younger brother, Perfect Peter, Henry has been banned from playing with Peter's toys. Typically, that's not a problem for Henry.Who wants to play with Peter's childish, baby toys?Well, that changed when Peter won a "Curse of the Mummy" kit from the museum. It came with a plastic body to mummify, mummy wrapping gauze,a curse book, amulets, and removable mummy organs! What little boy wouldn't love this !?

Perfect Peter soon finds Horrid Henry in his room and threatens to tell on him. But Henry convinces Peter that he's not stealing his toy, but trying to protect him from the Mummy's Curse, the curse that turns people into a mummy.

Peter is certain his Mom has been mummified. He asks Henry to help him remove the curse.Henry insists they must wrap Fluffy, the cat, in the sacred bandages (toilet paper) so he can be a messanger between this world and the next. Peter, too, must be wrapped and remain silent for thirty minutes. Henry begins chanting the "sacred spell":

"By the powers of Horus, Morus, Borus and Stegosaurus!"

But before the spell can be completed, Henry is discovered by his Mummy, I mean, Mom.He is grounded from the TV for a month, but since Peter no longer wanted anything to do with his mummy kit, Peter had free reign!

My Review:

Francesca Simon, author of the Horrid Henry series, does another outstanding job with this one! Each of the four stories are long enough to tell a good story, but short enough to keep the attention of my two boys. They love to hear about what sort of trouble is getting into next.My oldest, John, is still convinced he's Perfect Peter and his younger brother, Justin, is Horrid Henry.Justin doesn't seem to mind!

As I've mentioned in the past, the Horrid Henry books are perfect for any child, boy or girl, in the 7-10 age range. But they are particularly great for reluctant readers. The stories and characters engage them and the text isn't challenging.

So, like in the past, I HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend this, or any of the Horrid Henry series!

John's Review:

I think Henry is a little crazy for telling Peter that their Mom was a Mummy! He acts like Justin (John's younger brother), telling you things that are not true. Horrid Henry was so good at convincing Peter that he was telling the truth. When his Mom said that she was a mummy, she really meant a "Mommy" so that was a little confusing.Henry was so rude to wrap up Peter and Fluffy!

I liked this story because I think mummies are interesting. But I don't think Henry's punishment was good. It was a good punishment for Henry to lose his TV privileges, but it wasn't fair that he still got to play with the mummy kit!If I had done something like this to Justin (I wouldn't Mom, I promise) I would definitely get in a lot more trouble! I'd like lose my privileges for a MONTH!

2-0 out of 5 stars Phoning it in
Dr. Seuss wrote approximately 44 books. Some are classics that belong in every child's library, like "The Lorax", "The Grinch", "Oobleck", or "Yertle the Turtle". Some are wordplay exercises designed to help K-grade beginners get their feet wet with reading. A few others have classic status but ultimately their narratives lean more toward entertainment rather than mental nutrition. And a handful have the good doctor's text but not his artwork. Dr. Seuss wrote so many wonderful books for children that I could easily imagine parents adding half of his collection to their child's library.

At a certain point though, Dr. Seuss' output became spotty, phoning it in with books like this. It's said of singers and musicians that over the course of a career they sometimes become a parody of themselves, losing inspiration and calling out the same reliable gimmicks over and over again because formula is still better than their other career options. That's an accurate description of "Scrambled Eggs Super". Of the 40 Dr. Seuss books we have, this is at or near the bottom of my list. The writer calls on all his requisite, trademark gimmicks but the book simply doesn't compare to his better works. Strip away the predictable cleverness and there just isn't much to this one.

Even if you have a few hundred books in your child's library, there are far too many better books worth giving to your child. You only have a few precious years for you and your child to enjoy storytime together. Stick with the Seuss classics for their artwork, wordplay, and occasional morality tales.

A good story with some fun and silly words to teach your young one.Typical Seuss, who is a big favorite in our house.

CLASSIC SEUSS, NOT TO BE MISSED!! Add it to your collection, by ALL MEANS. Hard cover in like new condition for a penny? Great deal!!

2-0 out of 5 stars Not Seuss's best.
This book is mostly an excuse for Dr. Seuss to list off a variety of wild and fanciful sorts of birds. That aspect is cute, as per Seuss's usual, but there's not much else to the book.Meanwhile, the driving theme--taking eggs from the nests of very rare birds in order to make scrambled eggs with them--seems so blindingly unethical to the modern eye that it becomes difficult to enjoy the inventive imagery. There's a reason this book is not one of Seuss's better-known works. ... 5-0 out of 5 stars My favorite children's book to read aloud!
This book captures literary genius in the form of childish tongue twisters. It proves to be an excellent practice of diction and reading rhythm while providing extreme entertainment for the little listener. The love of words is the beginning of all great literary accomplishment, and this child's book is a step in the right direction.

1-0 out of 5 stars Horton Hatches the Egg
I was very disappointed when I received this book in the mail.It said it was in good shape but when I got the book there were stickers all over the front of the book.I was able to take the stickers off but was still disappointed it said nothing about them being on there when I ordered the book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Laziness doesn't pay but faithfulness does
Another lesson taught by our dear Dr. Seuss. This story is about Horton, the elephant, who is tricked by a bird named Mayzie into sitting on her egg through horrible conditions for a year while she is off frolicking in the warm south. When the egg finally hatches, it isn't a baby bird that emerges but a flying baby elephant.I don't know if the slant on evolution was meant here or was just truly by accident.

Moral of the story: laziness doesn't pay but faithfulness does.

Lord bless

2-0 out of 5 stars A Brit's take on American history in the 90s...
The heart of this novel had the potential to give readers a great story and several hours of entertainment.Unfortunately, the execution of the plot became far too "Clinton-esque" to remain enjoyable for the long haul. For me, all it did was remind me of a not-too-proud era of American history and that's not really something I care to remember when I'm just trying to kill some time with a good book.

I liked the flashback to Oxford in the 70s, where we were shown "firsthand" accounts of our main characters. It did prove to make them more sympathetic. But, the pacing of the story was terrible and the resolutions to the conflicts laid out in this story were subpar, at best.

I'm usually a big fan of Sisman's work, but this does not get my stamp of approval. You'd really do better to just read a Clinton biography or some of the media publications from his original campaign for the White House.

2-0 out of 5 stars Dated and Not in a Good Way
I enjoyed it somwhat as a light holiday read, but it is dated now. Also, it was too much a fictionalization of Bill Clinton to stand alone. Not one of her books that I recommend.

4-0 out of 5 stars Special relationship
This is a book that Robyn Sisman around 10 years ago before chick-lit had became a huge phenomenon and it recently got re-released. I've read Robyn's other novels and I loved them. But I have to say that "Special Relationship" just doesn't seem to have that same magic as her other novels do. I had a hard time getting into the book and staying interested in it. It took me over a week to read and finish the novel, which is a rarity for me. It's not like the characters of Jordan, Annie, and Tom were bad and not likeable but it was just lacking something. The backdrop of youth in the era of hippies and the Vietnam war are interesting and is kind of like what the world is experiencing again at this moment.

So even though "Special Relationship" is not my favorite Robyn Sisman novel, it's still worth reading if you've read and enjoyed any of her other novels.

4-0 out of 5 stars delightful contemporary tale
In 1992, Jordan Hope runs for the President of the United States, but has one secret that could derail his bid.In 1970 while he attended Oxford on a Rhodes scholarship and played the sax, he met Annie. She was the right woman for him, but she just vanished from his life.Sad he moved on until he recently began a run for the top office in the world.

However, Anne, a top London literary agent, is happily married with three offspring. She never forgot her first love and is proud of his accomplishments, but even if he was not a media darling, the evidence of their tryst lives with her, her oldest son Tom. However, following a comment related to a photo of a young Jordan that someone mistook as Tom, the lad realizes he could be the American candidate's twin as they look so alike at twenty. He realizes why Jordan sired him and rushes across the Atlantic to meet his biological dad. While the Secret service makes that seemingly impossible, Anne pursues her son and to warn Jordan using her dying mother as an excuse for saying her goodbyes to her in Chicago.

The obvious Clinton (Bill that is) connection aside, SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP is a delightful contemporary tale that provides a fascinating spotlight on the late 1960s and early 1970s through a filtering look back 1992 "lens".Tom is terrific as he stirs the game to meet and confront his father while Anne tries to prevent a cross Atlantic incident that would derail her first lover's political ambition.Jordan adds to the mix of the past coming home to roost (along with a couple of other family secrets) as he never forgot his SPECIAL RELATIONSHIP.

4-0 out of 5 stars Love Thru Rose Tainted Glasses
This story was published in 1995 but still a good read. What you deemed as the love of your life in your youth would be different by the time you hit middle age. So, goes the theme of this chick lit. The story weaving is good based on the author's ownexperiences at Oxford as a student though at a different time frame from the one she portrays in this book.

The Oxford with history, pomp, pagentry, love sick students, sex, drugs & demonstrations of 68-70 are well detailed thru the life of Annie Paxton, the protagonist. The story moves on to present time where she has a family and a dilemma whether to tell her son the truth about his illegitimacy.

Somehow, the subject on taking on two lovers & having an illegetimate son become a threadbare plot as you can predict how the story will flow right till the end. Loses some originality along the way. However, there are some small surprises where the sub-plot involves an older woman and a younger man coupling together where taboos & conventions cast aside to let this illicit relationship take place. ...
