Product Description
Historians use the phrase “the cult of the exotic” to describe the fascination with the foreign or strange that both led to and was intensified by the eighteenth century’s scientific and imperialistic ventures in the Pacific and elsewhere. This volume offers new historical contexts for encounters both real and imaginary and shows the evolution of Europeans’ ideas about themselves and those cultures they considered exotic. The essays draw on a wide variety of sources—art, architecture, scientific and literary works, journals and diaries, and the European popular cultural and political press—to explore eighteenth-century perceptions of the exotic and to demonstrate just how far-reaching “the cult of the exotic” was.

Product Description
Have you ever wondered what if?What if I let go of a past that no longer suits me to let in the evolution of a more authentic me?What if I chose to embrace the unknown, instead of remaining still and suffocating in a false sense of security? What if I followed the guidance to that inner voice? These questions led to the creation of Angelina "Angel" Moreau, a passionate woman who abandons her regimented life and seeks to live the answer to "what if?" in the soulful and edgy novel Mona Lisa's Seduction. When the classified section of the Boston Globe falls into Angelina's lap, the Harvard graduate and All-American soccer start dials the phone number to a restaurant in a seaside village on Cape Cod.Hours later, she finds herself driving to Provincetown, Massachusetts in an attempt to erase the pain of her dysfuntional past. What awaits her in this raucous and racy town is a restaurant named Mona Lisa's Seduction and a cast of characters as mysterious and contradictory as Leonardo da Vinci's masterpiece. Before long, the spider webs of histories collided to recreate a history that has already been written. One morning, Angelina arises to find a red rose under her pillowcase and a storage room inside the back of her bedroom closet that hosts a dangerous secret.Under the unflinching gaze and sly smile of the Mona Lisa, Angelina Moreau excavates the artifacts to face the truth. But is the truth enough to finally put her past behind her? ... 5-0 out of 5 stars Inspiring First Novel
Mona Lisa's Seduction brings you in and keeps you there. Angelina Moreau, who says yes to what the universe is telling her instead of fighting it, lands appropriately in Provincetown, Massachusetts. Once a haven for writers and artists, P-town today is a well-known gay summer resort. As one who seems to have weathered an oftentimes-brutal childhood, "Angel" must face her past while finding her path for the future.Kim Rogers' Angelina is an inspiration for those of us seeking to discover our true selves--a character who says love is life's litmus test...to see who you are and to see who you want to become.

5-0 out of 5 stars Enjoyable Reading
For those of you who are critical of the mannerism of what we read, Kim's novel is a blessing.Attentively interesting, concise, yet with just the right amount of discriptive adjectives.A story of a young girls search for her path in life with a suprising, yet acceptable ending. Moreover, Kim possess a great ability of phrasing the characters situations in a most unique way which keeps you reading for more.

A good book that everyone should enjoy reading.I cannot wait for Kim's next.

4-0 out of 5 stars A book to be shared with your finest girlfriends
Kim Rogers exhibits a magnetic writing style and a commendable story for her first novel. One is transcended into the lush, energetic, youthful years of discovering adult through Angelina. Her desires create internal conflict and her actions continually weave in the complexities of other characters. One cannot help reflect on one's own past personal experiences.I can't wait to read Kim's next novel.

5-0 out of 5 stars Beautiful novel that you're likely to relate to
In this descriptive and beautifully written novel, Kim Rogers narrows in on, and successfully captures, the time immediately following college graduation when a young woman is looking for a direction, inspiration, and love. It's a time in a woman's life -- especially in one which most major decisions have previously been made for her -- when everything seems in flux while she begins the quest of finding her adult soul. Every woman makes decisions during this time that she comes to regret, but without which her growth would not be so remarkable. I reccomend it to all women, whether they want to reflect on those years, or whether they just want a good read in which to submerge themselves. I also reccommend it to anyone who has spent time on Cape Cod -- Rogers does a fantastic job in her writing of putting you right back on a sandy dune on the tip of New England.

5-0 out of 5 stars Fabulous first novel
This book is an excellent first novel for Kim Rogers.Set in the small Cape town of Provincetown, Kim's lush language sets the scene beautifully and tells a familiar tale of life after College. The story takes you through some unexpected turns, carefully documenting the life of Angelina Moreau, the main characted.I definitely recommend this book if you are looking for a good escape that addresses love, relationships, and our eternal quest to figure this life out. ... From the author: Abstract Activin is a multifunctional hormone playing a major role in the regulation of reproduction and growth and development. We performed a genomewide scan using multipoint linkage analysis implemented in a general pedigree-based variance component approach to identify genes with measurable effects on variation in the activin-to-estrogen ratio in baboons. A microsatellite polymorphism, D19S714, which maps to human chromosome l9pl3.2, showed marginal evidence of linkage with a lod ([log.sub.10] of the odds in favor of genetic linkage) score of 1.95 (0.014). This region contains several potential candidate genes including PKA (protein kinase, cAMP-dependent, catalytic [alpha]) and the gene pair JUN-B and JUN-D. This is the first evidence of a quantitative trait locus with a significant effect on the activin-to-estrogen ratio.
