Rich illustrations and texts present the story of the first business to produce denim clothing in Italy. The Manifatture 7 Bell, under the brand Roy Rogers, developed new marketing and publicity strategies for their product, inevitably linked to the stars and stripes, that brought together a host of recognizable symbols. This work can be read not only as a history of society, style and advertising, but also as a history of market strategy. Italian and English text. ... Read more

Product Description
Among certain fans, Roy Rogers'golden Palomino Trigger was more popular than the King of the Cowboys himself. Some are still infatuated by the horse decades after his death in 1965--and no wonder. Trigger is the most famous movie horse of all time. But in truth, "Trigger" was a composite of the original horse, a number of look-alikes and one extraordinary double (rarely acknowledged by Rogers) named Little Trigger.

This book is a detailed look at the animals and men who created and nurtured the legend of "the smartest horse in the movies." It covers the life story of the original horse and the look-alikes, as well as the story of "Trigger," the legend. A filmography lists all films in which Trigger appeared, including some without Roy Rogers. Television and personal appearances are also discussed. Covered in their own chapters are horse hero comic books and Trigger collectibles. Also included are a biography of Trigger's trainer Glenn Randall and a chapter on Roy Rogers as horseman. Generous illustrations include many rare (some previously unpublished) photographs gathered from Trigger collectors nationwide, and even copies of Trigger's registration form and bill of sale. ... 4-0 out of 5 stars An Interesting Read for Roy and Trigger Fans
This is an interesting read and reference book for fans of Roy and his Triggers.Definitely lots of details and information on the various Triggers Roy used during his film career, as well as Dale and Buttermilk.Outside of the cover, there are no other color pictures, but there are many black and white images.More color photos would have been nice for the price, but not an issue that affects its readability. For movie and T.V. western/horse buffs, this book is a nice addition to the library.

5-0 out of 5 stars Long-awaited Trigger Encyclopaedia
At last we have a definitive reference book on Trigger - all of the "Triggers" - complete with documentation and plenty of photos. The book is well-bound and includes comprehensive endnotes, a bibliography and index. Unlike many reference books, this one is easy to read and hard to put down. It is well worth the price.

5-0 out of 5 stars Trigger book
I loved the book I keep going back looking at the pictures while I watch a Roy Rogers movie to pick out the different Trigger's used. A must read for a tru Roy Roger's fan

4-0 out of 5 stars Trigger
This is a great book for Roy and Trigger fanatics . Somewhat overpriced for the binding and print quality and with a few (unimportant) misspellings, butit is the most complete and in my opinion accurate book on the subject . I truly enjoyed the read .

5-0 out of 5 stars Trigger
I purchased this book for my husband for Valentine's Day.He loves it and said that it is a MUST HAVE for fans of Roy Rogers and Trigger. The book is so thoroughly researched that the reader realizes all the intricacies involved in the Trigger legend. Trigger's life began in July 1934 and ended in July 1965, but Roy Rogers career continued, even after his pal, Trigger, was too old to make a contribution in his movies. The relationship between Trigger, Little Trigger and Trigger, Jr., as well as Pal in California contributed to the Trigger legend. The book is instrumental in knowing which horse you are seeing in the different Roy Rogers movies, on tv, and in pictures. ... Product Description

It s 1954. When a mental patient who calls himself Roy Rogers finds a body in the hospital record room, his investigation leads him to the murder of Marcia Weinhart. Twenty years earlier, authorities found her mutilated corpse lying on the altar of St. Adrian's Catholic Church in Sunrise, Missouri.

Roy, his friend Harry, and Harry s beloved dog, Bullet, move through the buildings and grounds of the Sunrise Mental Hospital, a thousand-acre facility with more than two thousand patients and eight hundred employees. They go from the record room to the hospital s Catholic chapel, from the blacksmith shop to the hospital cemetery, looking for victims of the terrible abuse behind the Weinhart murder.

In the process, Roy comes to better understand the strength and moral stature of his hero, the real Roy Rogers. He is able to overcome the terror of his past, choosing to forgo violence and work within the law.

Joe Barone s debut makes for an intriguing mystery while also elevating old-time heroes and their values.

5-0 out of 5 stars The Body in the Record Room
In the guise of a lightweight and comedic mystery, the author imparts much wisdom to the reader.

I'd especially recommend this book to high school students/

4-0 out of 5 stars Gripping
I enjoyed the kindle edition of this book.It was a fast read with some funny moments with Harry, Bullet, and of course, Roy.I felt the story was full of compassion and honesty and it kept me entertained as Roy and I tried to make heads or tails of who did what to whom and why there was a body in the records room.

This book also offered some insight to life and times inside a mental institution back in the 1950's.I developed a deep appreciation for the 'Little man' and looked forward to his appearances throughout the story.I felt the Author portrayed each character and situation as realistic and heartfelt. The overall story was well written and I'm glad I discovered this book.

4-0 out of 5 stars Not your typical mystery, yet a good read
I really liked this book. I love really gritty detective stories by writers like Michael Connelly, John Sandford and John Shannon, so I was really surprised how much I liked The Body in the Record Room. Not gritty, not even a mystery really, yet there was something about the story that captured my interest and led to some self-examination. In this book the mystery is secondary to the characters, who live in a 1950s institution for the mentally ill. The story is told compassionately from the inmates' points of view, their actions played against a hostile outside world peopled by the so-called sane. As in the film The King of Hearts, one wonders who actually belongs in the asylum. The main character claims he is cowboy star Roy Rogers, and whether he actually believes it or not is unimportant. What is important is the reason he chooses Roy as his persona--Roy exemplifies upright moral character, kindness and a strong sense of justice--attributes not so easily found, especially in a time when mental illness and retardation and depression were lumped together and treated with suspicion and ignorance. Good book, Mr. Barone, and thanks for something different.

Even if this kind of book is not your typical fare, try it. I think you will turn the last page with a sigh and a sense of reassuring introspection.

5-0 out of 5 stars Thought-provoking first mystery
This book was a real wake-up call after the more mundate mysteries I've been ploughing through. It is reminiscent of The Curious Incident of the Dog in The Night Time in that the protagonist does not have the same mentation as the reader. In this book, the narrator is a man confined to a state mental institution because he has delusional episodes. One night, he finds the body of a man. He and a friend hide the body, but then try to find out how the man died; in doing so, they uncover the secrets of many townspeople and inmates, including another murder many years ago.

The very short chapter structure works well. The prose is good and the characters are very well written -- they may be crazy but they aren't stupid. The author grew up on the grounds of a Missouri state mental hospital. Perhaps the book resonated more for me since I grew up in the town where one of Iowa's mental institutions is located, as did my mother and her father... I have my mother's diary, describing living on the hospital grounds while her mother was principal at the school there. She talked about the "farm hands" that watched over her and her friends as they played on the grounds, mostly men that she later learned were convicted murderers.

Definitely a book that is worth reading!

4-0 out of 5 stars Good Read

4-0 out of 5 stars Far Superior to Volume 1
For my money, DC's revamping of the "Greatest Stories" line has still fallen well off the mark set by the 1980s/90s editions. That said, this volume actually stands up fairly well. While I certainly enjoyed some more than others, I won't dwell on the merits of the stories chosen for inclusion versus other candidates (with one exception which I'll get to later). I think that the nature of this kind of compilation combined with the nearly 70 year history of the character makes it almost inevitable that no single volume will be 100% satisfying.

That said, I was especially pleased by the inclusion of the 1980s story "All My Enemies Against Me" which was not only historically significant but also a really enjoyable, compelling story. I also enjoyed "Citizen Wayne" for the fun spin it put on Batman's oft-told origin. On a similar note, Roy Thomas re-telling of Batman's early years was more good fun, especially for those of us who remember the pre-Crisis DC universe and never found the Earth-1/Earth-2 business hard to follow.

My only reservations about this volume are relatively minor. First, the absence of the capsule biographies of writers and artists struck me as a glaring omission from a company that has always been good about touting their very talented creators in compilations. Secondly, I remain disappointed at the lack of respect shown by DC for the writer/artist team that really solidified my enjoyment of Batman in the 80s and 90s. For me, Alan Grant's and Norm Breyfogle's take on Gotham and its residents ranks up there with the legendary Englehart/Rogers run of the 1970s. I can understand their not making the cut for Volume 1 but surely Volume 2 was their turn (especially since they were basically ignored in the Batman in the Eighties collection). Grant is the writer for one of the included stories, but it was in collaboration with Breyfogle that he did his best Batman work.

Those points aside, this is in many ways a much better introduction for any reader looking for an overview of Batman and the many phases of his story in comics. Even the Silver Age stories are endearing, and while not every story struck me as "great," there's not a single one I didn't enjoy.

4-0 out of 5 stars A COUPLE OF SILVER AGE STUMBLES BUT OTHERWISE SOLID
The second volume is DC Comics' Batman:The Greatest Stories Ever Told, proves to be vastly superior to first, featuring stories culled over a period of sixty-plus years of Dark Knight history. While the stories are usually presented chronologically, this one deviates slightly in order to present the origin of the Golden Age Batman as the first story. This story was originally published in Secret Origins in 1986 and is written by Roy Thomas with art by Marshall Rogers. It's an interesting inclusion, serving to remind modern day readers of the "other" Batman.

Sadly, only one Golden Age story is included but it's a gem. From Batman #1,the caped crusader faces off against Professor Hugo Strange who he encountered for the first time in Detective Comics #36 a couple of months earlier.Strange has escaped from prison and also helped free five insane patients from an asylum. He uses a growth hormone to turn them into hulking monsters. Artist Bob Kane was certainly interested by popular films of the era.His monsters look very similar to Universal's Frankenstein monster and later one climbs to the top of a very tall building while Batman attacks him from the Batplane in an ode to King Kong. It's a great story and Kane's art is superb.

Now jump ahead a couple of decades to the late 50's and early 60's for the next two stories from Batman #108 (1957) and #153 (1963).These two stories with more simplistic art by Sheldon Moldoff are in complete contrast to Kane's darker style. Also by this time, Batman was in his phase of battling silly alien threats.I've never been a fan of these stories as they just don't fit Batman's persona.

In other stories, Batman teams with Helena Wayne, the Huntress of Earth-2 (in a Pre-Crisis story from 1982) and discovers his father may have been involved with the Gotham mob.Batman literally has "All My Enemies Against Me" as he and Robin face-off against The Joker, Clayface, Two-face, Killer Croc, The Riddler, Scarecrow, and several other from Detective Comics #526.

One of my favorite stories In the collection is Cave Dwellers where Batman plays second fiddle to Batgirl in one of the first modern day, revisionist encounters between the pair. The noir-ish art by Marcos Martin is outstanding, as is the story by veteran scribe Chuck Dixon.

This is a very strong collection of Batman stories.Of course, ask a hundred different people and you'd get a hundred different answers as to what the greatest Batman stories are.Only the two silly Moldoff stories from the Silver Age prevent this from being a five star book.Four out of Five stars.

Product Description
This study examines the humanistic psychologies of Abraham Maslow and Carl Rogers in mid-20th-century Western psychology. It also discusses the intellectual links between the common features of their psychological systems - the growth hypothesis and the holistic understanding of human nature which they inherited from Kurt Goldstein, and their views on ethics, education and the problem of method in the human sciences. The book argues that Maslow and Rogers established themselves at the forefront of those psychologists who rejected behaviourism and psychoanalysis, and so laid the groundwork for a humanistic alternative in American psychology. ... The story of the Vietnam helicopter war

After Jackson's engine quit from being pierced by an AK-47 round, it turns out that the top of the mountain was bare. No trees or anything. It was the only place he could have landed without completely destroying the helicopter and possibly killing everyone on board. He made a fine autorotation and landed safely.

One of the scouts, Red-34, suddenly shouted, "Taking fire, taking fire!" I looked around just as the mountain top seemed to explore. I heard small arms fire coming toward us. Someone said, "We're hit, breaking off." Tracers began coming toward us. "Roll in, White."

"Roll in on what?" The mountain erupted and everything on the top was burning. It looked like a volcano. "Over there to the left, I mean to the north." "Taking fire, they are all over the place." "Where did they come from?" "Break off. Break off, it's too late now. Calling an air strike." That was Dealer Six. Major Robinson. I did not know what he meant by "too late" at first. Then I saw. We all saw. The fire on the top of the mountain was Jackon's helicopter. ... Read more

Roy A. Rogers has proven himself well on his first publication.Jackson's Mountain chronicles the experiences of five young pilots from flight school through the VietNam War as they discover themselves, each other, and theSpirit that binds them together. Written from the perspectives of multiplecharacters, Mr. Rogers provides a view of how a shared experience canaffect those who live it in dramatically different ways. The goal is notto glamorize the War, indeed, VietNam becomes a character in itself. Rather, it is an introspective look at human nature as it is revealed andwitnessed by others. ... Read more
