Product Description
As famous for his popular cooking segment on Wake Up America! as for his swank Manhattan bistro, Billy Blessing can add prime murder suspect to his impressive list of accomplishments. Because when one of the network’s top honchos ends up dead, it’s a poisoned serving of Blessing’s coq au vin that’s to blame. Billy knows he’s being framed, but proving it won’t be easy—not with his perky cohost involved in a brass-knuckles contract negotiation, a Mossad agent about to tell all on the air, and a ruthless international assassin arriving in the Big Apple. Now Billy isn’t so much concerned about staying alive in the ratings . . . as just staying alive. For the closer Billy comes to uncovering an international conspiracy, the closer he comes to being canceled—permanently. ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Why so many cuss words?
I love cozy mysteries, but this one had way to many cuss words in for me.I mean, what's the point of cussing? This story was a bit long and i had a hard time staying in the story.I love Al Roker on TV, but I think i will pass when it comes to this mystery series.

3-0 out of 5 stars engaging, funny, and forgettable
I hate to say it, but this book is about just what you'd expect it is- a light mystery based around the goings-on of a morning talk show.

Lots of interesting characters, lots of little insight about the "morning news show" business, and lots of little quips.

Not a bad read for cozy mystery fans or Al Roker fans. Nice way to pass some time.

4-0 out of 5 stars A Culinary Slant on Network Television, Classy Bistros, and International Intrigue
"Bring me game and make savory food for me, that I may eat it and bless you in the presence of the LORD before my death." -- Genesis 27:7 (NKJV)

Today Show's Al Roker (author of Don't Make Me Stop This Car and two cookbooks) and Dick Lochte (author of the hilarious Sleeping Dog) team up for a breezy story about Billy Blessing, fourth banana on a morning television show who works the crowd outside and rustles up an occasional recipe inside. When not at the studio, Billy operates a bistro where he's more often called upon to sort out personality clashes than to prepare an entree. Tensions quickly rise as the story opens when the show's co-host successfully sticks the network for a mint and credits Billy, who is totally mystified by his supposed role. Not to worry, it's just an excuse to give Billy a motive when a network executive dies after eating something that looks a lot like take-out from Billy's bistro. There's also a broken romance in the background that causes Billy more than a little pain. Needless to say, Billy becomes the scapegoat while the police are investigating. To clear his name, the Billy goat does a little sleuthing. He's soon tipped off that there's an international assassin coming to New York to take out someone in the entertainment business. Could all those drawings of cats have something to do with all this?

The best thing about this book is that it doesn't take itself too seriously while having fun satirizing the Manhattan celebrity scene from the dual perspective of network television and restaurant dining. The authors take the time and trouble to concoct a plot that keeps you turning the pages while building up some decent twists and turns that make figuring who did what to whom worth chuckling your way to the end.

The book mostly relies on restrained humor, but many of the descriptions are beautifully visual so you can use your imagination to have as much more fun as you want . . . by further exaggerating the situations beyond the literal descriptions. It's the kind of laid-back humor that slides down smoothly, like a little flavoring in the antacid medicine you take after overindulging in too much good food and wine.

For foodies, you'll also enjoy the relatively robust descriptions of the dishes and beverages being prepared and consumed.

I think anyone who was at the beach would find this book to be a pleasant and refreshing read, letting them imagine colder weather in Manhattan and allow them to laugh at lots of annoying self-important people.

4-0 out of 5 stars Really well written
I wasn't sure what to expect when I opened this book, but it was really good.Interesting characters, good plot, moved along well, with a few surprises thrown in, what every good book should be like.

4-0 out of 5 stars Good First Book for Roker
My rule of thumb is to read my age in pages before giving up on a book.I'm glad I did with The Morning Show Murders. Many other books pulled me away from getting into this murder/mystery but when I finally dedicated time to it, it was not too bad.Al Roker's humor - to anyone tuned in tothe Today Show on every morning of their life - is plastered throughout the pages. He is definitely Billy Blessing, heart and soul.Quick wit, intuitive, talented with the background and mind of a sleuth -- masquerading as a chef -- all gave the hero and story a unique perspective.I would read this on a beach as dessert or choose it from the library shelves for entertainment and curiosity.A good first attempt for Al Roker! ... Product Description

A backyard-loving guy, Al Roker's passionate about firing up all three of his grills at once and cooking everything from Steaks As Big As Your Head and Kansas City-Style Ribs to Grilled Sea Bass.

The hundred recipes in this book are casual and simple -- just the way Al likes to cook for his family and friends. Like most of us, Al first learned to grill at the knee of his dad, whose policy was "the more lighter fluid, the better." But a trip to the Memphis in May Barbecue Championship ignited a real passion, and since then Al's grills have rarely grown cold. And while Al does have some hard-and-fast rules, like "don't keep moving your meat around" and "never touch another man's grill," his food is simple yet inventive, impressive and delicious.

In addition to great stuff for over the fire -- Jerk Chicken, Marinated Pork Tenderloin, Kebabs Cooked Right, New Orleans-Style Barbecued Shrimp, Fish Fillets with Lemon-Parsley Sauce, Turkey on the Grill, and, from "The Wurst City in the World," Sheboygan Bratwurst -- Al Roker's Big Bad Book of Barbecue has something for everyone, including recipes for quick-and-easy starters, marinades, main-dish salads, sides, classic American desserts, cooling drinks, vegetarian dishes, and low-fat fare.

So lean back in that lawn chair and have a sip of Lemon-Lime Fizz. Munch on a Spicy Wing or some BBQ Popcorn. That brisket should take care of itself in another hour or so. ... Read more

My mom had this cookbook forever.I always wanted to get my hands on a copy. There are some great, timeless, summer recipes in here.Definitely a keeper and a good one to have on hand.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not just for grills
I recently moved to an apartment and had to give up my charcoal grill. Happily, I've still used this cookbook and the marinades and recipes it contains to cook indoors in my oven and on my stove. The marinades are fabulously flavorful and any leftover meat makes great sandwiches.

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Just For the Grill Barbecue Book!
I was surprised to receive this book as a gift but found great recipes for any cook, novice to experienced.Easy to follow directions, easy to find ingredients.I've had the book about 3 weeks and have tried about 10 recipes so far, impressing family and friends at several cookouts as well as some meals at home. Great marinades to prepare ahead and take along.I would definitely recommend this one as the all around summer cookbook/barbecue book to have!

Product Description
Beloved TV personality, trusted weathercaster, and all-around Renaissance man Al Roker continues his newest successful career with the thrilling sequel to his dynamite mystery debut, The Morning Show Murders. Professional chef turned amateur sleuth Billy Blessing once again finds himself in hot water, when a brutal killing cancels a TV show—and its host—during its debut.

Billy has never liked going to the West Coast, but when he runs into high-energy comic Desmond O’Day, he reluctantly agrees to play second banana on the funnyman’s new late-night talk show. Los Angeles holds bad—and bloody—memories for Billy. Twenty years ago, he had suspected obnoxious chef Roger Charbonnet of murdering his ex-starlet girlfriend there, and told the cops. A tricked-up alibi freed Roger, who vowed vengeance. And now Billy might be on the verge of getting burned.

After a horrifying explosion during a TV taping kills more than Desmond O’Day’s chance at high ratings, Billy believes that he was the intended target—and that Roger Charbonnet was somehow involved. And when politics, infidelity, and high finance are sprinkled in, the case turns out to have more ingredients than Billy could ever have imagined. Soon a beautiful female TV producer convinces Billy to find the culprit himself—on camera. And the table’s set for a conspiracy with too many cooks and far too many killers.

Filled with the high-style hilarity, insider info, and surefire suspense that are Al Roker’s series trademark, The Midnight Show Murders is a four-star feast for any fan of top-flight mystery fiction. As James Patterson says, “Maybe Al Roker should quit his day job!” ... Read more

Millions of Americans see Al Roker daily on NBC's top-rated Today. In Don't Make Me Stop This Car! Al takes us home. Here, we meet his wife, Deborah, and his daughters Courtney and Leila. Just like men all over the country, Al is a modern father who fantasizes about the newest sport utility vehicle, struggles with a GapKids addiction, and basks in the golden moments of first steps and special Father's Day meals. Heartwarming, honest, and funny, Don't Make Me Stop This Car! is a sneak peek into the heart of the guy in the driver's seat, the all-American dad.Amazon.com Review
Al Roker, the genial weatherman on NBC's top-ratedToday show, has written a book that reads like a long chat overcoffee. Light and involving, Don't Make Me Stop This Car talksfrankly about fertility problems, parenting, divorce, adoption,and... 'toons. It turns out that Roker's a cartoon fanatic, and hisown capable, funny drawings grace the back cover and chapterheadings. In the first half of Don't Make Me Stop This Car,Roker and his wife, 20/20 correspondent Deborah Roberts, struggle to get pregnant. They conceive a child the old-fashioned waybut lose it during the first trimester. Roker candidly discusses thecauses of their impaired fertility: his low sperm count and his wife'splummeting progesterone levels. Key doctors are introduced (and, annoyingly, reintroduced) in the ensuing chapters before Leila isdelivered via C-section in November 1998. Part two is a collection ofessays on topics ranging in seriousness from Ricky Martin toracism. Roker's better with weightier subjects, such as the challengesand pleasures of adoption and foster care. And there are somecompelling descriptions of his childhood that make you admire hissalt-of-the-earth parents. At times the writing sounds as if Rokerdictated and didn't spend much time editing. It's punctuated byexclamations that surely sound better on TV ("Yesss!" "Is this a greatcountry, or what?" "Gotta go!"). But the informality grows lessirritating as the book goes on. Ultimately, you're left with a senseof Roker as a middle-class hero--proud of his bus-driver dad but richenough to buy fertility treatments and then decorate the baby'snursery with trinkets from the "statusphere." All in all, it's a sunnyforecast for Mr. Roker's fatherhood book. --Kathi Inman Berens ... Read more

2-0 out of 5 stars Stick With Your Day Job
Al Roker is a funny, humble, insightful, multi-perspective weatherman. The audio CD falls short in all ways compared with expectations. The "getting pregnant" section may have been personally important to Al's family, but the story was told without humor, insight or depth. The audio delivery was weak, almost flattened like a pancake.

For my next road trip, I'll try a novel, a history of the English language or a sports biography - anything but humor or parenting tips from the weatherman.

3-0 out of 5 stars Sometimes laugh out loud funny, sometimes tedious and maudlin
This book on tape, read by Al Roker himself is a mixed bag. There are laugh out loud moments and sweet moments, but generally speaking the book has too many filler moments, WAY too much information about his second wife's attempts to get pregnant and sometimes is sickeningly sentimental. The last half of the book saves the first half from being a total disaster.

5-0 out of 5 stars a favorite
By now, I've probably read this book three or four times.Although the beginning was a bit boring, a couple of chapters in I got really into it.All of it was told with a bit of a funny tint. You can tell he loves his kids through it!

3-0 out of 5 stars Al Roker is a sweet man
I expected something really funny and light.Instead, I learned WAY too much about the birth of one of Al Roker's children.I walked away thinking that I had learned a lot more about what a wonderful person Al Roker is......but the title led me to believe that I would have something funny to listen to over and over again.

1-0 out of 5 stars YUCK!
Frankly, I am disappointed. I thought this book would be humor filled. I guess I was hoping for another like "Bill Cosby: Himself". This was not to be.

All the other reviews are excellent, but I cannot recommend this one. Where he tried to be funny about his wife and things they went through, I thought instead he was being utterly RUDE toward and about his wife. He even criticizes his wife when he asked her to look over and critique his manuscript and she left her opinion for him. Why ask her opinion if he is just going to throw her suggestions back into her face?

I do not recommend this book to anyone and that is a rare thing for me to do. ... Read more

Now in trade paperback, a collection of thoughts on fathers and fatherhood by various celebrities with an introduction by bestselling Al Roker

In Big Shoes, Al Roker and 37 other well-known personalities share personal stories about how their fathers have been there for them during times of both adversity and triumph, and the countless large and small ways they’ve shaped their lives throughout the years. As Al Roker says, "No matter who your father is or was, whether a great man or someone who left a lot to be desired, there is something in the man that you can learn from, something that will make you a better person."

4-0 out of 5 stars Great gift idea.
I bought this book for my father. It is a fast and simple read.Three reasons why I bought the book:(1) it is compilation of short stories written by different celebrities that offer unique perspectives on fatherhood, (2) a number of stories are well-written (some are much better than others).I particularly liked the ones that focused on one event and/or used humor; (3) the proceeds go to charity (which is a must for me when it comes to books written by a celebrity.)

5-0 out of 5 stars Big Shoes
This is one of the best books about fathers I have ever read. It is a good variety of people not just stars but authors, etc. And the stories are not all happy but are honest and the fathers all taught or left the authors with lessons and or memories that they have carried with them and now shared with us. And Al so nicely compiled for us. It is a great read and a great gift for husbands, brothers or sons. It is a good re-read so a good keeper for the book shelf.

5-0 out of 5 stars Nice read :-)
I really love this book.I bought it because I'm an avid watcher of the Today show and I love Al and wanted to see what he and many other celebrities thought about their relationships with their dads.
This is an interesting collection of different lenght essays from various people (Donald Trump could only manage to write one page), talking about the ups and downs of their upbringings and how they now think of their dads.I loved to see what Katie and Matt and Ann also had to say.
This is a great gift for Fathers Day or just a birthday for him or yourself. It's interesting and fun and you'll laugh and cry and overall, you'll enjoy it.

5-0 out of 5 stars Great Book!
This is a must read for dads, it will make you cry, make you laugh, and give new perspective.
Lots of different passages written by many different well known stars, but never too cute. Just right!

5-0 out of 5 stars Not Only For Dads
I purchased this book for my husband for his birthday and together, we love it and so do the kids. It's a keen picture of heartfelt feelings right down to the humor. Our birthdays are on the same day making the days a little more special to us.He bought me a family book too, Mommy CEO, and we both love it as well since it helps us both with our kids ages 2 to almost 10, and has heartfelt messages mixed in.

Both books make a great gift for year round giving and my dad, will get his own copy of both on his birthday, maybe even one for Father's Day.He keeps the kids for us and is like a dad to the two oldest anyway. I'm not sure if people would think of these two books as gifts for the people that they are really not marketed to, but I find it's good for husbands to read family books and grandparents too and the same with Big Shoes, moms should read it and granddads too.Just my opinion as our family adores both books.Great gifts!

Excerpt: Jerome Allen "Jerry" Seinfeld (born April 29, 1954) is an American stand-up comedian, actor and writer, best known for playing a semi-fictional version of himself in the situation comedy Seinfeld (19891998), which he co-created and co-wrote with Larry David, and, in the show's final two seasons, co-executive-produced. In his first major foray back into the media since the finale of Seinfeld, he co-wrote and co-produced the film Bee Movie, also taking on the lead role of Barry B. Benson. In February 2010, Seinfeld premiered a reality TV series called The Marriage Ref on NBC. His father, Kalman Seinfeld, was of Galician Jewish background and owned a sign-making company; his mother, Betty, is of Syrian Jewish descent. Seinfeld grew up in Massapequa, New York. In September 1959, his mother enrolled him at Birch Lane Elementary School, from which he continued to Massapequa High School. At the age of 16, he spent a short period of time volunteering in Kibbutz Sa'ar in Israel. He went to SUNY Oswego, and after his sophomore year he transferred to Queens College, City University of New York, graduating with a degree in communications and theater. Seinfeld developed an interest in stand-up comedy after brief stints in college productions. In 1976, right after graduation from Queens College, he...http://booksllc.net/?id=104492 ... Read more

Excerpt: David John "Dave" Matthews (born January 9, 1967) is a South African-American musician, and actor. He is best known as the lead vocalist, songwriter, and guitarist for the Dave Matthews Band. Matthews was born in Johannesburg, South Africa, the third of four children born to John and Valerie Matthews. At two years old, Matthews' family immigrated to Yorktown Heights in Westchester County, New York, where his father, a physicist, started working for IBM. In 1974, the family moved to Cambridge, England, for a year before returning to New York, where his father died from lung cancer in 1977. Biographer Nevin Martell argues that Dave's father's death may be an impetus for his "carpe diem" lyrics. At some point while residing in New York, Matthews attended his first concert when his mother took him to a performance by Pete Seeger. The family moved back to Johannesburg, South Africa, in 1977. Upon Matthews' graduation from St Stithians College high school, he was faced with conscription into the South African military just as civil disobedience to the practice was becoming widespread. A Quaker (and consequently pacifist), Matthews left South Africa to avoid service. Matthews moved to New York in 1986 where he worked for IBM for a short time, then joined his mother in Charlottesville, Virginia, the same year, a town Matthews' family had lived in before he was born. It was in Charlottesville that he became part of the local music community. Pursuing various interests, Matthews acted in various local productions. Although Matthews had started playing the guitar at the age of 9, it was only in Charlottesville that he started performing publicly....More: http://booksllc.net/?id=182446 ... Read more
